However Maddy my technician who did my CT scan was the absolute best. I've never had such a professional, kind, supportive, informative lab technician who does CTs before. She even got me warm blankets because I'm always so cold. When it was done she helped me up and told me that my Dr will have the results back STAT. She made me feel comfortable and is phenomenal at her job. I sincerely hope that Maddy will be recognized and get the registration that she deserves. If there were more stars to give I'd give them all. That's how comfortable and kind she made me feel in a not so comfortable time.

    Today when I went in for my MRI, the check-in process was very quick and easy, and I was seated…read morecomfortably. However, when the MRI technician came to take me into the room and set up the machine, she seemed very careless and not very attentive. She briefly asked what kind of music I wanted, then closed the door and left. I asked how long the procedure would take, and I was told fifteen minutes. Once it started, the noise from the machine was extremely loud and suddenly caused me to develop a headache. I simply endured it for the full fifteen minutes. When it was finished and another staff member came in to open the machine and help me out, I mentioned what happened. He told me that next time I should ask for earplugs. I responded that I hope there won't be a next time soon, as this is not something I experience regularly. In my opinion, patients should be reminded in advance that the noise can be very loud and that ear protection is available. This discomfort could easily be prevented. I feel the staff need to be a bit more attentive and considerate, rather than just treating it as a routine task and moving on. Patients deserve more care and awareness.

    I'm sorry to see so many negative reviews, because my experience was different. I reached out to…read morethe location directly and did not use the central call system. That may be one reason that I did not have the frustration that other reviewers had. This location may havehad a change in Management because the difficult people I used to encounter there at the front desk are no longer a problem, I am delighted to say. Perhaps they have just had better training or read enough yelp reviews to let them know that people were not thrilled With that part of the experience. However, ALL the people I encountered here in December, 2025 were warm and welcoming, and they answered all the pesky questions I have. I know they're busy, but they really went out of their way to help me. That was awesome. The supervisor (lead) ADRIANA was absolutely terrific, as she made sure that all my questions were addressed and she explained the items on the check-in form that I had questions about. She really went the extra mile! Truly exceptional. I was really impressed. Thank you Adriana! At the front desk, ARIANNA was delightful and welcoming, patient and helpful. That's really important for a front desk person to be, when the patient is having a procedure like an MRI or a CT. Well done! She was wonderful. KIM, the technician was terrific, and actually a lot of fun, which made me relax for my MRI. She is a seasoned pro and made everything run smoothly. I was so grateful for that! Impressive. All in all there is NOW a terrific team in this location at 3300 West Coast Highway, Newport Beach. There has been much improvement since I was there last in 2019. Also, of course, the beautiful appearance of the place, like a spa, helps greatly to provide a soothing atmosphere. So yes, I absolutely recommend this WAVE Location. It's also a nice short walk from the parking lot which counts when you are suffering. One thing to remember: they DO offer what is called an "open MRI" which can accommodate bigger or more claustrophobic people. However, it does not mean there is a ton of room above your face, I was surprised to find out. I think THAT particular type of machine is called a "Wide Bore" and I do not know if this parent company has that kind of machine anywhere near me. So it was still fairly claustrophobic for me,although not as much as if it were not "an open MRI". Kim did an impressive job of making me as comfortable as possible. I do think that this is a very good and well run facility and that hopefully people who discover it will see how earnest the people at this location are. (I did receive a call from the general call center trying to book my appointment, but I could barely understand the gentleman. Seems like that may need some attention from this company.)

Next receptionist had nothing but attitude. Really go anywhere else.

What I encountered was not a simple billing mistake, but a systemic failure in transparency regarding in-network coverage, referrals, and facility-based billing that left me with unexpected and unjustified financial responsibility. Before receiving care, I took the appropriate and responsible steps to confirm that Hoag--and the specific services I was being referred for--were in network with my insurance plan. I was explicitly told that they were. At no point was I informed that certain departments, facilities, or billing entities within Hoag operate differently or could be considered out of network, despite being part of the same health system and marketed as such. Only after services were rendered did I receive bills indicating that portions of my care were processed as out-of-network, resulting in charges I never would have consented to had accurate information been disclosed in advance. This practice feels intentionally misleading. Patients should not be expected to decipher hidden distinctions between "covered" and "non-covered" facilities or billing entities within the same hospital system--especially when staff affirmatively represent that services are in network. The most concerning part is how casually this issue was handled when I raised it. Instead of accountability, I was met with deflection, contradictory explanations, and an apparent normalization of this practice. Being told after the fact that "some facilities bill differently" or that "certain providers are separate" does not excuse the failure to clearly disclose this information before care is provided. This is not informed consent; it is bait-and-switch billing. Healthcare is stressful enough without patients being put in a position where they feel financially trapped by misinformation. Hoag presents itself as a trusted, patient-centered organization, yet my experience reflected a system more focused on revenue protection than ethical transparency. To be clear: this is not about insurance complexity--this is about being told one thing, relying on that information, and then being billed another way entirely. That crosses a line. Patients deserve honesty, clarity, and full disclosure before care is rendered, not after the bill arrives. I strongly caution anyone considering care at Hoag to get everything in writing, confirm not only the provider but the specific facility and billing entity, and be prepared for the possibility that "in network" may not mean what you are told it means. I would not choose Hoag again based on this experience.
