We have been coming here for years, this place is the best. The staff is always friendly and some provide outstanding service. The food is fairly priced and the menu, although small, offers a decent variety, anywhere from a simple breakfast to something more unique. Came here one morning before going to snowboard and ordered the "Irish" what ever they call it. I don't know this place seems to be slipping through the cracks because they have such great ratings but it was just awful. The meals names sound appetizing but you know what they say, don't judge a book by its cover. Anyway, I started my meal off with a cup of coffee. This thing tasted like a BURNT CIGARETTE. Anyway, when I ordered my breakfast which was a play on eggs Benedict. I asked the waitress if there was any hollandaise sauce? She said oh no. Nope. It comes the the cheese salsa sauce. Yup, that's what it comes with. She seemed appalled that I even asked that, like the damn nacho cheese sauce was her own recipe or something. Have you ever heard of nacho cheese sauce on an eggs Benedict? No? Neither have I. The nacho cheese sauce was like the Tostitos jar crap for your nachos. When I got my plate it came with these unseasoned burnt mushy potatoes like they been there since last Tuesday. Also overcooked eggs and under seasoned corned beef hash. DONT GO HERE! Huge wait when I went on a Sunday morning but I needed coffee & food. I ordered waffles & my boyfriend ordered an omelette. Both of us enjoyed what we got. His omelette was probably one of the best I've ever had. I couldn't stop stealing his food. I also enjoyed the cute homey feeling of the place. They had awesome deer heads up. Have been visiting back country since it was Jonny Boys annually for guys golf weekend. The waiter is epic. He knows the menu, if fast with coffee and keeps the cups full. Service is quick and the food is great. They have real home fries from scratch, not the frozen kind. We really need to catch the waiters name as he is 99% of the business. read more

This place was adorable. All of the syrups and hot sauce that they use they have available for sale. Our servicer was attentive and always warmed our coffee. I had the banana bread French toast which was incredible and my boyfriend had the multi grain blueberry pancakes. He was obsessed. I would absolutely come back here and would recommend it. read more

Absolutely horrendeous. I use to frequent this establishment often. Ive actually been there about 5 times since July, only because there are NO other sitdown breakfast establishments on Killington Rd, each time it was progressively worse. The one man show , has been pushed to his limits and its really sad. I feel bad for him. On to my review... Last time I was here, was on a sunny sunday before we went biking. At 10:30 am it took 15 minutes for our "waitress" to arrive, it took 40 minutes to get our food. We didn't even have a waitress, she never checked up on us. Our entire party's food was mediocre at best. The coffee is always BURNT!!! The woman owners(all older women, they look like they are sisters) are special to say the least.. On one occasion, in the winter, after eating one of them gave us attitude because we were still sitting at the table 5 minutes after we recieved our check. In the summer you have to pull teeth for attention to get service. This business will die as soon as competition arrives. Avoid at all costs. Save yourself and your family from a horrible dining experience. They only care about serving their family.. The big table in the back with all the kids, I see you, I know who you are, you get treated like its a fine dining establishment. While everyone else that pays for their meals gets subpar service and mediocre food. read more

Stopped here on start of travel up rt 100 to see fall leaves. Excellent food -- our family got blueberry pancakes, Belgian waffle, Mexican scramble plus extras. My husband said the blueberry pancakes were the best he's ever had, same for me and Mexican scramble. Good mix of basic breakfast staples w some very interesting alternative -- amaretto french toast w strawberries & mascarpone cheese, that calorie concerns kept me from trying. Pretty good food but ready for a long wait. Even on a busy post ski day Sunday morning, the line for a table wasn't that long and we were seated quickly. However, it took almost 30 minutes to have our order taken and over an hour for the food to come out. The decor is great with bear and deer heads and a nice back country theme. The coffee was hot and tasty though again, the milk took a long time to come out and the coffee was cold by then. The food was all great and were huge portions. The breakfast burrito was very good, though entirely vegetarian, so I ordered a side of chorizo to add in and it never came. The maple syrup hot sauce they have and sell is phenomenal. I regret not bringing some home. Makes a good breakfast if not in a rush and to go along with a long day skiing. read more

Pretty decent breakfast, we have visited there twice after my husband completed Spartan races in Killington. There has been a line both times to get in, but it was the morning post-race, so everything is busier, not sure what it is like normally. Great omelette and pancakes. read more

The hype is right on for this place. Super casual, inexpensive for how much you get, and a lovely staff. We ate Christmas breakfast here and then came back the next morning because there were so many good things on the menu we still wanted to try. Two of us had french toast and when it first arrived I was nervous because sometimes when restaurants use thick rustic bread for french toast it is soggy in the center but not at Back Country Cafe. My team of Spartans came to this cafe for breakfast on Sunday after completing the Killington Beast the day before. The course took us 11 1/2 hours and it worked up a crazy appetite that continued as we came here Sunday morning.
