Mary's Cafe officially has a spot in my lifelong Top 10 of breakfast spots! Following some disappointing breakfast experiences in Killington, we took to Yelp for some assistance. Mary's Cafe popped up in my search and while it was 25 minutes away from our rental house, we hoped it would be worth it (fast forward: it WAS!!) Mary's Cafe is an unassuming breakfast spot in what looks like a house in a residential area. You must make a reservation in these times of Covid, or you may not get a table - seating is limited. We were greeted immediately on entering and promptly seated at a cute table by the window. I wanted everything on the menu, and with the prices, I could basically afford to order it all! Compared to what we had been paying in Killington, Mary's was a huge bargain! I ordered the two eggs with toast, a side of corned beef hash, and one apple pancake. I love apple pancakes and you really don't see those around at many places, at least not at home in CT. My husband ordered eggs Benedict, which came with home fries and he said yes to the veggies in the home fries. Everything was prepared to perfection. The hash was so flavorful, and cooked to a crisp just like I like it. The pancake was fluffy and large with a ton of apples and cinnamon inside - I didn't take a single bite that didn't have apple in it. My husband's eggs Benedict was great as well, the ham seemed more flavorful than any other ham/Canadian bacon we've had before on a Benny. The home fries with the peppers and onions were amazing, I'm usually a home fry hater but I really enjoyed these. All of that, with a coffee, one OJ and one grapefruit juice, was just under $27. The service was great, the food was prepared perfectly, large portions, and a great price. If you are anywhere remotely in the area, make the trip to Mary's Cafe for breakfast, you won't be disappointed!! (But you probably will be disappointed...and broke...if you stay in Killington for breakfast!) read more

I always stop at Mary's when I'm in the area. The restaurant looks like a house on the outside. inside are two dining areas and a counter. Very clean. It's fairly quiet even though the restaurant has always been full when I've been there. The menu is basic diner food but consistently well prepared. Lunch specials like chicken & biscuits or pot roast are excellent. The staff is very friendly and provides prompt service. It's always a pleasure to eat there. read more

I had the biscuit and gravy there were large chunks of sausage in the milk based gravy and home fries with onions and peppers . Dinner is in a home setting with tables and a bar. I made a reservation for 3 for brunch and mentioned it would be after my fiance and I married at our house. Yes, I'm the guy that's going to leave a bad review on a 4 1/2 star restaurant... so in order to adequately get the average person to understand my level of frustration and "blackened" disappointment.. I'll start painting the picture for you. It's a Saturday morning when I was told by my brother, " hey man wants some Mary's? " since I am home from the service I rarely get to go and it was a rare treat to get their typically fluffy eggs, beautifully tossed home fries and deceptively tasty hash browns... Well that was not my experience today, much to my dismay ( photo attached apologies they are worst than they look ) the home fries were burnt as well as the bread and parts of hash browns, ( which the hash browns were still somewhat edible , but how in the hell do you burn hash browns... impressive on any scale ) Anyways... maybe I'll try them again but with the upcoming ski season coming up and it barely being the first weekend, I would suggest any out of stater to pass this one by as it seems they can't handle the workload this early in the season ( I say this because the cashier appeared rushed and unbothered... to be sarcastically fair, the parking lot was empty ) read more

We stopped here on our weary way home from a camping trip to Vermont. I loved the menu and the idea that you can get breakfast or lunch - or any combination. The place is small and cute. We opted for breakfast items. I ordered something called the Garbage Omelette, which had a variety of vegetables and a choice of meat and cheese. (I had bacon and American). It was very good, as was the rye toast that accompanied it. It did not ca me with home fries or hash browns, as is customary on most breakfast menus, but they were available at an extra cost. My grandson ordered his standard - chocolate chip pancakes. It was a good size stack and he did it justice. My only complaint is that the service was a little lacking. The waitress never returned to check on his and my coffee mug (which was adorable) stood empty. read more

My grandma worked at Mary's Cafe. I didn't know about it until we were in West Rutland and she pointed it out. It was early in the morning and we were hungry. She wasn't working that day and wanted me to come see the restaurant . It was only me and her. Once we walked in we got a smile from the friendly staff. Our waiter introduced herself to us and then brought us to a table. When we got the menu I got the pancakes and chocolate milk. When I got the pancakes they were fluffed up and nice and soft. I got the syrup and I poured it on my fluffy pancakes. My chocolate milk was very creamy and not too sweet but it was sweet. I have gone many times and they have all been great! Adorable and charming little local Cafe that has such a cozy vibe I wish I lived here. Stopping thru town we needed a late brunch. The breakfast was classic diner with omlettes, waffles and pancakes. Hubs had a sausage and gravy biscuits. I enjoyed my Monte Cristo. There were def locals interacting with the super friendly waitresses about the local specials. Mary's I a great local breakfast and lunch place. It is truly local and visitors to Vermont would never choose it, but you ought to try Mary's. She has daily specials and people know what day to go for their personal favorite. Personally I like them all. Monday is chicken and biscuits, then there is roast pork, meatloaf, macaroni and cheese, and more. The burgers are homemade. The staff is excellent. The pies are great finish. Mary's is the go-to place for breakfast! You will be hard pressed to find a day when the parking lot and tables aren't packed with locals eating the delicious food and discussing their lives! Food: Better than my mom's cooking and grandmother's!! They have daily lunch specials that are so good; Wednesday is meatloaf day! Employees: Some of the nicest people you will ever meet; everyone is family. Atmosphere: Depends on the time of day. If you arrive for breakfast on Saturday or Sunday expect a long wait, and rushed staff, plus loud volume of conversations (I told you it is a popular place). Weekday mornings are less busy (may still have a small wait) but quieter noise level. Words of advice: Mary's is Cash or Check only; don't go next door to the atm, instead go to the Jiffy across the way buy something you actually need and get cash back. If you see an empty table or spot at the counter TAKE IT! Get your homefries with peppers and onions Get the homemade bread, you'll thank me! Also, try one of the amazingly delicious homemade jams (not jelly). They have gluten free bread (and it is actually really tasty, especially with the jam) Last point, definitely not the least.... Mary's is a popular no frills cafe for all your breakfast and lunch needs. The cozy cafe has an "at home" feel and lots of regulars. Simple, good food. Definitely select the homemade bread for your breakfast or sandwich. The corn-beef hash is a star. The fish chowder is delicious. The Shepard's Pie is rich and hearty. Don't get me wrong, I love this place including the coffee, the server with the black hair, and the homemade toast. But here is some information that I think Mary's needs to consider. I am disappointed that some of the awesome servers no longer work there anymore, from which I heard was because of the owner. The newer male server doesn't nearly match up to the girls that recently left. I think it's time that Mary's starts to cook with less butter. The past few times I have gone the whole plate just seemed to be tossed in butter. I always leave smelling like food. Maybe put some fans of open windows in the kitchen to get rid of the smell. Sometimes we will decide to go somewhere else because we just don't want to smell like food the rest of the day. It's so strong that it makes your hair smell too. read more
