We have always enjoyed coming here but this time was pretty bad. My hubby ordered spaghetti and meatballs and the sauce was thin and not tasty. I ordered the fried seafood plate which was very disappointing. The shrimp were tiny inside a lot of breading as were the clams. The fried piece of fish and scallops were okay. I ordered fried onion rings instead of potato as a side and the waitress said something about them being made there but what I got was a large plate of thinly sliced onion that had no batter lightly dusted with flour and fried like the onions you get on a hamburger. Customer service was great and the diner car that is the largest part of the restaurant was great. We had breakfast and my pancakes were light and fluffy with real Vermont maple syrup. on a sunday afternoon, this diner had plenty of open space for seating. the interior is classic old diner, very charming. i ordered the short stack of chocolate chip pancakes and the home fries. one notably nice thing about this place is a pitcher of real maple syrup on every table. the pancakes were standard and pretty good, and the waitress provided ample butter. the home fries were a little disappointing as they were completely unseasoned. there is salt and pepper on the table, which made them edible, but they tasted slightly of dirt. the staff here is very pleasant and efficient at what they do, and it's very affordable to eat here. read more

Can I just put half a star? I've been going to this diner for YEARS! This was one of the worst dining experiences EVER! Yes, they were busy but that did not excuse the extremely poor service and to boot, the chef screwed up 2 of the orders at our table. It was almost as if we wouldn't notice that a part of the dish was missing. To remedy the situation they obviously took something out of the freezer and cooked it fast and hot...overdone and dried out....and the item was something that was on the specials menu for the evening....something that another member of our party had. The items were completely different. One fresh...2 frozen and burnt. Sorry I didn't take pictures!!! The fries were soggy too. The table next to us had basically the same service as us. We sat for a good 20 minutes before we had to ask for service. When an appetizer was brought we all still had no utensils. Most wait staff try to compensate when things start out badly...but it just got worse. The real kicker was when a new party showed up....a different member of the wait staff was immediately at that table. They actually had utensils and drinks within 5 minutes and their order being taken where our neighbors had been there 20 minutes or more and were just getting their beverages. Their appetizers came out with the food. It will be a good while before I step foot back at The Birdseye. read more

The owner needs to keep an eye on business. Got one waitress that has bad temper swears at you calls names last timer puts something in the water. Get orders wrong tell her what you asked for your order and next thing she cursed you swearing. All you can do is seat there's watch the little children act up throwing her temper tantrum it was good at hardly any customer in the dinner other waitress tried to clam her down. read more

A fairly standard diner near Vermont State College. They offer a variety of options and the food is average quality. They do also have some great milkshakes. The biggest issue with the diner is it is not very clean. It's very casual and what you would expect. Nothing overly good and nothing too bad. An authentic diner along our route from Salem NY to Middlebury VT. The service was good and we enjoyed our lunch. The grilled pastrami sandwich was tasty even if it was not loaded with pastrami. Breakfasts are very good and coffee is unlimited. They do serve wine in the small bottles found on airplanes. There is a large room built on to the original diner car, so larger than 4 people can be seated together. The main area is narrow with booth along the windows. Service is great, menu has lots of choices and they make their own pies and desserts. Those are well worth taking in with a cup of coffee and a friend. We chose to dine here tonight because we visited this diner a few years ago and it was awesome. Tonight was a different story altogether. I ordered the chicken parmigania and my husband ordered the fried chicken. We were told by the server that the fried chicken would take 30-40 min to cook. We were in no hurry so we said it would be fine. Turns out it only took about 10 min. The chicken was undercooked and raw, he sent it back and when it came back still not thoroughly cooked.
