We had the opportunity to visit Sweet Caroline's as we heard so much about it from our friends. As food connosuiers, we had high expectations. We were severely underwhelmed and disappointed from the service to the food. So much so that we will not go back. The food was cold, and my husbands steak appeared and tasted like it had been boiled. The steak was also a very poor cut with a lot of gristle. When we mentioned it to the servers, they were very rude and told us that no one ever complains about the food. Always a great choice! One of the best, if not the best kept secret in Rutland County. Worth the drive from Rutland, Mendon, Castleton, Fair Haven, and Killington. Donnie the owner is a great guy and makes everyone feel welcome. Whether you have been coming here since they opened or it's your first time here you are always treated like a member of Donnie's family. The menu has a great selection with amazing portions and a great variety of daily specials. The chicken parmigiana and the prime rib are better than any restaurant in the area and the popovers are to die for! Not to mention Jessica is the sweetest and sexiest waitress in the state! What a cool place. This is a family run establishment. It seems like a very popular local spot. We went in on a Sunday evening at 6:30 and there were several couples and families enjoying dinner. We were greeted seated fir our reservation right away by Donny who is so friendly. Our server was prompt to greet us, she took our drink order and told us what was not available on the menu. We put in an order of mozzarella sticks while we decided on our meals. The drinks and mozzarella sticks came out right away. Cool to know the soft drink refills were free! Once we placed our orders the meals took quite a while to come out. A table near us who came in later all were served first (preference given to the regulars I'm sure). We did enjoy the fresh, homemade bread while we waited. Our meals were all hot when they arrived and our server then remembered the salad I'd also ordered. My kids and I all had pasta dishes. I had the Chicken Picatta which was a huge portion on angel hair. The sauce was less like a picatta and more like a cream sauce with capers but it was tasty and the chicken had been lightly sautéed and browned a bit which was nice. My oldest loved the angel hair with lots of garlic and red pepper-like scampi with out the shrimp. My youngest enjoyed their huge portion of baked raviolis. My husband had the double pork chops in Marinara with a baked potato and glazed carrots. The sauce was really fresh, definitely homemade and the pork was tender, could have used a little more seasoning on the meat. The portions here are huge! We took home a lot of food! We grabbed a piece of chocolate cream pie for the road and that was delicious! Large portions, friendly people and a good value. I'd go back again for sure when in the area. We have been going here for quite some time but things never change they need to put in a salad bar or something but change those maple glaze carrots to something elsewhere we don't go often anymore and we hear other people complain too. Good place to eat, comfort food. I've been there many times the door is placed in a corner and it is always very cold in the restaurant. It took us a while to get in (10 mins) but once we got in they served us quickly. The food was great and the staff was friendly and very very helpful. There is also a not fully stocked bar. As a guest of a rehearsal dinner, I was very pleased with the food and the service at Sweet Caroline's. The room was spacious and clean. The food was comforting and hearty; particularly the creamy spinach pork loin and the shrimp scampi. The drinks at the cash bar were relatively inexpensive. For the salad course, I appreciated that all the veggies were cut up and separated; making it look like a salad bar. My friends and I went there on Friday night 10/25/19, I have eaten here many times, we had drinks appetizers,dinner and desert, I should mention it was my birthday dinner, my fish was cold and my friend had under done scallops, we went early at 430pm,it filled up a short time later.as we walked in a big party of 15 sat down, we could night find a watress to help us, they are very short staffed, we packed our food to take home,we ordered desert and my friends ordered another wine the bill was way over 100,00 he then came to our table and in front of customers asked that we leave we had stayed to long he was out of line and rude I have never been asked to leave we explained we just ordered wine he stated ill give you the money back he did not ask anyone else that came in to leave he explained he had customers waiting I will never return where is customer service he ruined my day read more

Not to be negative on Christmas day so ill do positive first and then whats really annoyed me. 1. First thing, the food mostly was excellent. i was a little concerned with the portion sizes but it turned out to be precise. 2. Reservation at 330 pm Christmas day 2019 and even though we were on time and another party wasn't done at the table they were able put us at another table immediately. thumbs up 3. Though busy not over crowded. 4. The last thing thumbs up for being opened on Christmas. Thumbs down and reason will probably not go again. 1.The lasagna though great arrived to my table Luke warm to the chilly side but edible. My wifes lasagna however was cold of course she did not tell me about this until we were heading home otherwise the restaurant would of herd about it while i was still in there. 2. The big rolls were burnt on the bottom and not very warm when they got to our table the butter did not melt on them at all. 3. Though the soup bread and salad arrived at our table with in minutes from placing the order the food did not. However if it is fresh i would expect no less but to take time, but then why was it not steaming hot. 4. My daughter had the stuffed shrimp with crab stuffing she loved the shrimp did not care for the crab stuffing. I loved the stuffing only issue was it was way to much butter in the dish which over crowded the taste of the stuffing and kinda of ruined it. 5. After we got done with our dinner. it took the waitress 13 minutes to come back to our table at this time there only about 7 parties in the entire restaurant and 2 other waitress serving half of them. When she finally got back to the table she asked if we wanted anything else and i said wed like dessert. She said they had blueberry pie so i ordered 2 of them. 22 minutes from the time i ordered the pie to the time we actually got the pie. However while eating our pie we over herd another waitress tell the table next to us that they had 3 desserts blueberry pie cheesecake and something else. My wife would of had the cheesecake if we had known about it so their you guys lost money. however we were not going to to wait another 20 minutes to get another dessert. 6. We arrived at 3.25 pm we did not get out of sweet Caroline's until 5.15 pm i know fresh food takes a little bit of time but almost 2 hours. We probably would have been there longer but i was not going to wait another 20 minutes to get my bill i went to the lady at the register and asked for my bill only to find out it was not even entered into the system. She however was great got right onto the waitress and thank god we got our bill in under 5 minutes. Our bill had a mistake on it that would have cost the restaurant money she forgot to add our soups to the bill another 6 dollars thankfully it was a quick mistake. I caught the mistake too not the waitress. overall $93.45 bill. i am not happy with the service from the middle of the meal to the time it took at the end of the meal and the fact i think i saw r waitress 4 times total. 1ce for bread and drinks and soup 2ce for the meal finally for the dessert and i was not waiting to find out when she was bringing the bill. It was not worth the price and i am not a totally impatient person but even this is a little to long. 2 stars because the food was good. i can not do any more and we will not be back and most business may not care about reviews but consumers do. enjoy the rest of your Christmas. Sweet Carolines bills itself as a family restaurant and as such, it does well. The night we visited there were plenty of families and some teens out for dinner before they went to prom night. Helpings are generous and service is very friendly and prompt. I found my alfredo to be on the heavy side with too much cream - rather than the parmesan and butter variation - and the pasta seemed over cooked. My companion's eggplant parmesan was a large serving, and a little on the bready side. I had wanted to taste a little freshness or zing in each dish, but felt it missing. But for famiilies and kids who want a standard fare meal without surprises, Sweet Carolines will fit the bill. read more

Stopped here for dinner and the place was busy. The service was friendly and quick. There was a little wait for our meals but only because a table of 15 had just ordered before us. The popovers and bread held us over. My prime rib was rare just like I ordered and very tasty. And still had half left over when I was done. My date had the Turkey dinner and she enjoyed that as well. Ended up coming back for breakfast the next morning when the diner nearby was standing room only. To start off we ordered two white Russians, they came and all you could taste was vodka just an overwhelming amount of it. When we told the waitress all she said was I can add ice if you want. Then we got some of their supposed famous popovers and they came out almost burned on the outside and raw in the center, I actually cut the roof of my mouth on them. We ordered the soup what was supposed to be hamburger macaroni soup was just a bland goulash. I ordered the stuffed haddock with crabmeat stuffing(sounded amazing)it was served floating in some kind of butter lemon and cream substance, well everyone knows you dont mix acidic foods with cream(it was sour) the fish was incredibly overdone and the stuffing was still quite raw. It made me I'll after one bite. My wife ordered the prime rib(rare) came out well done. The veggie of the day was carrots in maple glaze, they must have been sitting for awhile since they looked quite pruney and lacked any maple flavor. I highly recommend that you avoid this place, our meal came to almost 50 dollars with my meal being taken off and were told that the "soup" was taken off the tab(it wasn't). read more
