The beer selection is great, good variety between lagers, IPAs, and stouts. The staff is extremely friendly and attentive. The facility itself is great- good outdoor space, good indoor space. The loss of 2 stars has to do with the food service- they simply have to get better on this. Ordered with a large group. It took nearly an hour to get the first item out, and almost another 45 minutes to get to the last 2 people served. One of the yardbird pizzas had a whole slice with not one drop of chicken on it. And the back room- would be really nice to have someone working the bar back there instead of having to go around to the front. Why even have a bar there if no one is going to work it? read more

We called ahead of time to check on their vegan options. The lady that was handling the phone, said that they have a vegan burger, vegan chicken wings and vegan pizza. We get there and start to place our order and the front counter, immediately, informed us that they only had a vegan burger available and some vegan chicken wings. So, that is what was ordered, 3 vegan burgers and an order of the vegan chicken wings. We are usually in the Birmingham area and go to other Back Forty location and there are multiple vegan options available. Our food was delivered by a nice lady, Collins, she noticed that we did not have have vegan cheese for the burgers or vegan mayo as well as the vegan ranch for the vegan chicken wings, she immediately went and bought those it's to our table. We were so excited to have those items available. Collins was so helpful and knowledgeable when it came to vegan food options. Long time customer. Haven't been here in a bit. They started serving lunch and I read their post about serving pizza. I am an " ugly New Yorker" always searching for a comparable slice in Alabama. Stumbled onto this Very very cool place! Great variety of beers and sodas... and great food! Chris is the chef and worked wonderfully well with my pepper allergy! That means soooo much! (I really hate going to a the ER) Tonight (Sunday) Liz is playing live music and is an amazing vocalist . Hours need some updating, they are open until 7 tonight! I have the terrific Kale Ceaser salad with chicken, HH (hungry hubby) has the Freckle Belly Burger and he really enjoyed it. My choice of drink is the "Bama Momsa " and though I really don't like beers, I loved this one! (They sell the cans of it too). HH liked the "Naked Pig"! Staff is great! They've got good beers and yummy food. Nough said.... But really there beer are unique and very tasty. They collaborate with some locals to make interesting and tasty beers and brew all there stuff in house. I was lucky enough to try there Black IPA which was totally awesome and I hope its something they keep. They have a porter that is tea infused and very flavorful. And a peanut butter beer with a can that looks like a thing of jiffy. And there fries taste like they go em from McDonalds, which is a big plus for me because I freaking love McDonalds fries! The place is clean with a good amount of inside seating and some outside seating. I did see a dog in the outside seating area. The bar tenders were nice and informative. They let me try some beers and helped me make a choice I enjoyed. All in all I will make it a point to stop by here whenever I'm in the area. read more

To start off there's plenty of free parking in the lot. When you come up on it from the back side you might be questioning if you made it to the right spot, keep going- you'll see! This place has a really cool vibe. There's seating out in the lot or on the patio, or inside! There's a good beer selection to choose from. We did a flight to get more options. , of course. For a quick appetizer we got the chicken nachos! Oh man, they do not skimp on the queso. They were delish!!! We came in after a hike and really enjoyed the light atmosphere. The staff was nice and friendly. Pups and kids are allowed . We got some beer to go and some stickers. There is other merch as well. Definitely recommend for someone passing by ! read more

Really enjoyed my first visit to Back Forty. Really cool location in an old brick building. When you go up the steps and enter the main door there is a counter/bar immediately to your left. Walk up to the counter to get your beer and food orders in. Good selection of draft beer, with 12 or 14 selections available. I went with the Mexican Style lager and got a sample size of the stout they had to offer. Mexican lager was pretty good, and the sample was good as well. Would probably get one of these next time I'm there. Note samples cost $2.00 - $2.50, but are a really generous pour so well worth it. The menu is small, and can sometimes not be totally available if they've had a run on a particular item. They weren't sure they could do the farmhouse burger for my gf, but they went in back and checked and they were able to. I went with the BBQ Pork Tostados. Food came out between 10 and 15 minutes. Really fresh and really good. The tostados were really creative, and way more filling than they looked (and appear in the pictures). I would order this again if I was here and hungry. Overall, I really like this place. Very relaxed vibe. They can have live music, Indoor and outdoor seating. Friendly people. They even had a Prince vinyl hanging on the wall. Hard to beat a good brewery with good food all at a good price point. Highly recommend. read more

Interesting place. The outside area is nice, the inside was just ok. I did find it interesting that you can walk through the brewery to get to the bathrooms, otherwise is was a little disjointed. The draft beer selection was adequate, but only about 8 selections available. The food menu is very limited. I cannot stress how limited, but if you don't want a burger or wings, you may want to eat ahead of time. Overall I wasn't impressed, and probably wouldn't go back. Nothing was wrong, just nothing to make me want to revisit. read more

I've struggled with what to say about this place. It's a huge place, and the brewery is viewable and huge. Food is unremarkable - even the House made sausages on hot dog rolls were a great thought, but somewhat bland. Burgers were well-executed but lacked flavor. I've decided to re-review Back Forty after several trips, and get something off my chest. I just read another review on the page (should be easy to spot, seeing as how there's only two people who have reviewed them) and I need to rant for a minute... If you think they are disgusting, why don't you go across the road to any of SEVERAL restaurants that serves your Bud/Miller/Coors. Go drink your MGD55 or whatever it is you use to keep your girlish figure. If you think they're disgusting, then there's no reason you should be there, and honestly the people who love Back Forty Beer Company will probably be ok with you never showing your face there again. They are not a stain on Gadsden; if nothing else, they've provided Gadsden's growing craft beer community with a place to educate yourself about the kind of beer you're drinking. They also can't keep their products on the shelf at retailers, so I HIGHLY doubt they are going out of business soon like you suggest they will. My point: If you don't like their beer, don't drink their beer. They will continue to make high quality beer for high quality people. Go give McDonalds another 4-star review. read more

This local brewery has a quite a few more variations then you typically see in the stores. The flight is the way to go because the are several different types readily available. My favorites were the kudzu porter and the peanut butter porter. The kudzu was light compared to most porters with a rich flavor while the peanut butter was sweet with heavy notes of peanut butter (of course). A few variations of food are served here although no wings are served here like their new birmingham location does! read more

Beer is good, food excellent, good service and fun décor. The Truck Stop Honey Brown Ale is my favorite so far, but also enjoyed the pilsner and the cream ale. But every bit as good as the beer is, the food is just as good. They serve lunch, and put a great deal of thought and care into the lunch offerings. Absolutely loved my experience here. I was treated to a full tour of the facilities and they are state of the art and amazing. I'm a novice when it comes to what all the equipment I saw was but I can say that I was very impressed. They have as relaxing tap room with indoor and outdoor seating available. There is also a dart board to help give that place you want to hang out feel. They had several different beers available to chose from that are not available in stores.
