We saw a big lineup of men's and women's clothes including tank tops, sweatpants, shirts, hoodies, leggings, cropped shirts and hats. Souvenirs are everywhere- stickers, mugs, phone cases, postcards, and more. The store is very well organized, super neat and enjoyable to just browse around in. Our contact person, Babek, was very helpful when we were trying to figure out how to disengage the rope bracelets we liked from their wood column of a stand. Shout out to Carson for saving my feet and my night! I was out with the ladies at Coyote Grill dancing and having fun until my shoes fell apart. We were told this place was still open so we rushed over. At first Carson told us he had just shut down the credit card machine and was closing up but when he heard what was going on he didn't hesitate to get the machine up and going again. The quality of the fabric as well as the designs were very good, so that was a great deal. They have one fitting room setup inside the store. I came in to find out the hours of the store across from yours. They had no hours posted. Frustrating but the young lady, Abbi was so sweet and kind. She asked if she could help me. I told her I was looking for a pair of earrings. She showed me what you had but they were not right for me. Since she was so sweet I decided to look around the store to see if there was anything I could find as a gift for my friends back home. Well, I found one item and my friend love it. Wheelchair accessible store with flat ground entrance and wide enough spaces inside. They have really nice hats, souvenirs, clothing, jewelry, cups, mugs, beach toys, cup holders/coasters, and so much more! There was a young woman working and she was very kind. I really appreciated that while walking through here, I never felt like the employees were watching me or looking at me like I was stealing, as so many other places do. My hubby and I were walking out of Wilson's Leather (I dragged him to the Outlets on a Sunday afternoon JUST to get this purse I saw!) when Dwayne chimed up and greeted us. (The Back to Cali booth was right outside Wilson's.) Our intentions were to get the purse and scoot out of there ASAP! Too many people at this time of year! But after chatting a bit with D, we started checking out what the booth had, were quite impressed and ended up purchasing 2 small surfboard plaques equalling approx $50. I love having 'Carlsbad' things in my house, we live in such a beautiful place, and I've never stopped by this booth. Hmmm . . . . Anyway, my point is, that if Dwayne hadn't have stopped us and started a conversation, we wouldn't have bought anything. Good guy selling very cool items! Even though we are from San Diego, we enjoy browsing local shops. SERVICE - The guy who was working was so funny. He asked us if we were local or if on vacation. I'm going to start by saying I'd give a negative star if I could. My husband and I own two businesses (we know what customer service is and should be) and whomever was working last night was WAY out of line. My cousin forgot her daughters suit in AZ so we popped in here after dinner to look around. The woman in the store seemed friendly but maybe wanting to leave (it was right before they closed). My cousin and MY daughter were looking at suits and playing with these plastic shark (trash grabbers), the sharks mouth opens and closes... they were having a great time and laughing! My daughter touched a hanger with the shark and then the lady working said please don't bend that, it'll break (it wasn't even being bent). No big deal, I tell the lady, don't worry if it breaks I'll buy the item. I decide to leave the store with my daughter because the tone the lady used was not appropriate. I did not want to purchase anything and we can wait outside for my cousin. My cousin came out and said what's going on? I told her to go back in and purchase the suit for my niece. My cousin went back inside. My daughter is 8 and is wondering why this lady is being so harsh. My daughter is outside with me and is getting upset because she wasn't trying to hurt anything (and she didn't). To my surprise, the lady working followed us outside and in front of my Mom, husband, and my cousins husband and daughter starts to tell me that as a mother I should have stepped in and stopped my daughter and because I didn't it was her place to say something. I then said if she breaks something I'll buy it, how much could the silly item be? $5.00? I'll buy the whole bin of them! The lady was disgusting, her behavior was inexcusable. My daughter actually walked away and started crying!! You don't treat people like this and you damn sure don't talk to people's children like that. I will NEVER step in to this store again. And you better believe I yelled for my cousin to come outside and NOT buy a swimsuit. I'll do my best to let everyone know that visits Carlsbad that this lady is rude and shouldn't be working in this environment. How dare she judge me and just assume that if my child breaks something I'll just walk away? That's a horrible outlook on life in general. read more

A nice little souvenir shop that I tend to frequent when I need to bring my family little gifts when I go home. Depends on the staff though. Several times that I have been there, the same female staff member completely ignores you and seems disinterested in any questions you may have; however, the last time I went (about two weeks ago), I came across a male associate and he was great! Engaging, upbeat, friendly. He even offered me advice on a personal issue I was having lol. Just goes to show that your team can make or break your business. I still love the store! read more

Are these fake reviews? When I went in with my daughter to browse, I didn't get the warm and fuzzy feelings as most of the reviewers here. I don't understand. The guy at the front watched us like a hawk and made us feel really uncomfortable. Then he warned us every few minutes that the items we were looking at were fragile and that we'd have to pay for it if we break it. Then he made me feel terrible for taking a pic of a cute item. I left the store with my daughter asking me why we had to leave. I felt bad trying to explain to her why we had to leave. I kind of wondered if the guy was racist, because he was super nice to every other customer (they were all Caucasian except for us). He really can't expect everyone to buy - not especially with the uncomfortable atmosphere he created for us. read more

He treated us with respect and kindness and even wished us well. This type customer service is unheard of in today's world. Ive made couple purchases at your back to cali booth in carlsbad couple times this month. My family loves your shop. Shirts are amazingly great. Throughout our expierence at back to cali we've had good customer from your employees. But today i have to say we received the greatest customer service we ever had by your employee Jerome. A great salesperson you have. From greeting to after our purchase he was amazingly outgoing and fun to talk to. What really made him stand out was the respect he gives us customers. Also we caught him sitting on the floor playing with the penguin slide toy with our kids. Our kids did not want to leave! Great guy very respectful and always smiling and laughing. Great place! I wandered into this shop on their grand opening day to find a nice selection of California theme souvenirs and cloths. They even had swim-ware in case you forgot your suit or just need a colorful new one. Such a nice selection and something for everyone on your buying list, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, grandparents, friends and neighbors. And if you don't have room in your suitcase for all the souvenirs there is a UPS Store directly next door to box up the gifts and send them right to the door at home. Look for David ,the owner, when you visit as he is very helpful, fun loving, and enjoys conversing with his customers. He is a Carlsbad resident but grew up in Germany so give him a big 'guten tag' that will put a smile on his face. I picked up a great gift for my grand kids that turned out to be a real hit; the automatic soap bubble maker. ... hours of fun for them and it brought out the kid in me too. read more

I always go here for clothes and items that have to do with Carlsbad and San Diego, they're great gifts for people who have to leave this great place where we live! :) I went just last night and John helped me out. She really asked some great questions about what I was looking for and the person I was looking for and did his best and found me a great t-shirt. He had me sign in for the rewards program and since they didn't have the size I needed he arranged to have it brought over to the Carlsbad store (I live close so its easy to come back) plus parking is easy. and then John texted me that the shirt is there waiting for me. Great store with wonderful owner and employees! My daughter (9) was wanting a sweatshirt in a child's size, but with an iron-on sticker that was only found on the adult sweatshirts. David, the owner, was so helpful and created a custom sweatshirt based on her idea! He even graciously kept the store open a bit longer than normal, postponing a Post Office run, to make sure she could leave with the exact sweatshirt she wanted. We had a visitor in town looking for souvenirs and he was looking for magnets. He mentioned to me he thought the ones here were way over priced. I mentioned this to the sales clerk who became highly offended. When he went back a couple days later for a keychain she made a snide remark about how I "drug him out of the store" which was far from the truth. Really? Have some class! I bought my daughters a few hoodies here over the last year because they loved the style/design, but after washing them over and over, I'm happy to find that they're also great quality.
