Place is crazy overpriced for mediocre food. We were the only table in for brunch and it took an hour to receive the food. Crème brule French toast is a pile of mushy sweet mess. The omelet is fine nothing special for 23 dollars. Music is blasting for breakfast. read more

Although most people would laugh at the "NYC" comparison in the branding, A'tera 519 has the most ambitious menu I've ever seen in Scranton and the whole package is on par with second tier Italian restaurants in my neighborhood in NYC. Scallop crudo used too much oil and too much coarse salt. Might have been using bay scallops instead of sea scallops (which isn't necessarily a bad thing but makes it a worse value). This was the dish most in need of work. Radicchio salad was good. Special pasta with duck ragu was fantastic, but there was a jagged bone in it which I almost swallowed. The special ravioli with rutabaga had a nice sweetness to it. Bonus points for being about double the portion you'd find in NYC. Filet mignon was cooked properly but was for some reason cut down the middle. I found this to be highly unusual. Service was pretty good. Hoping to see the menu as ambitious as it currently is next time I'm in town. read more

A beautiful, chic spot - I bet its very nice and pleasant with the windows open overlooking the park on a regular day, however, when we were there the Italian Fest was going on so we only got a view of the back of a few stalls. That's OK though because we were there for brunch and we were given a free Mimosa and I can work around anything for that haha The french press coffee was delightful and the piece of bacon I snagged from my friend's plate was crispy and meaty. My main was the House Smoked Jail Island Salmon Platter (Red Onion, Chive, Crème Fraîche & Caper Grilled Sourdough & Fresh Arugula). SO fresh, so delicious, I practically rolled out of the restaurant after all that! Service was decent, we had a girl who was either new or overworked because she was a little scattered and made a couple of mistakes but nothing that I could not forgive for being early on a Sunday morning. 3.5 stars This place is so swanky. They even have an upstairs loft that looks so inviting and VIP! The name is ok- there's no story, basically looked nice on paper. We enjoyed our experience and will be back for full dinner. Let me say that Scranton needed a place like this. It can only get better! Service- 3/5 we sat at the bar . The bartender was not as attentive- drinks stayed empty longer than we would have liked and spent a lot of time talking to the manager (?) who had his laptop on the bar and was working which we thought wasn't necessary. Food- 3/5 we had the Brussels sprouts, and delicata squash, and fingerling potatoes. We liked that you could order 1/2/ or three as part of the pricing. The Brussels sprouts were over done- maybe separating the leaves for crispiness instead of over roasting. The delicata Squash was very good The fingering potatoes were delicious; although we did ask for more aioli because the potatoes definitely needed a dipping sauce. I was gifted a generous gift card for this restaurant so my wife and I decided to go.. I had heard the restaurant was beautiful so I was interested in checking it out.. it was nice but the lay out wasn't that great .. The bar wasn't very appealing either. We sat on the mezzanine. Which I felt was set up wrong.. one person sits with there back towards the view. It should have been both people sitting side ways .. oh well .. the service was great .. waitress was nice .. I ordered a gimlet for a drink and had to send it back .. I don't know if they know how to make it.. so I ordered one of the specialty drinks.. it was good . On to the food .. complementary one bite pastry puff . Not very good .. no bread for the table unless you pay $9 for it .. I had the spaghetti Pomodoro Basically spaghetti and meatballs.. $29 very over priced. Small portion and the sauce had no taste and meatballs were a little bit burnt. My wife had the cauliflower steak with a Marsala sauce.. it was good but for $31 bucks it was a small portion. We ordered a salad since it doesn't come with the meal .. a small Caesar salad extra $6 ..good not great Everything is extra.. over all it wasn't a good restaurant .. We won't go back .. Very good for a special occasion but i don't think I'd make this a regular stop. Filet minon was great. Husband had swordfish, portions are kinda small. We loved the chocolate moose cake for dessert! This martini on the craft cocktails menu had a bit too much oil in it... tasted like straight up olive oil. I'd be interested to see if they switch up the menu. If ur tryna be a manhattan club be one. Don't be a restaurant if u can't provide the food. Limited menu, if u wanna wait a decade for ur meal while listening to, club music?? Go here. The filet was $48 with a spoonful of mashed potatoes. Not to mention I ordered 2 glasses of wine and our waitress opens the bottle and leaves it for us... uhhh turn down the bass so u can hear what ur customers want. We got burrata, a delicious cheese that pairs well with basil, olive oil, and tomatoes. Not here!! If u want burrata and almonds then ur all set, this is the place for u! It's honestly sad because this place does have potential, but the food does NOT fit what they r trying to be. Everything on the menu is such a weird combo. I have heard quite a few mixed reviews so this is my first experience at A'tera. FABULOUS!!!! The place is gorgeous! NEVER would I think I was in downtown Scranton, Los Angeles maybe lol. Food was absolutely delicious, I had the eggplant feature. One complaint I heard was it was very expensive. It's not cheap but no more expensive than any other higher end local restaurant, especially the atmosphere. I have paid much more in place that were a 1/3 as nice. Service was impeccable! We actually went to another restaurant for gelato for dessert to break up the night since they were so close (Bar Pazzo) not saying A'Tera didn't have great desserts, just wanted to make it more of a dine around. We made reservations for tonight at 6pm. The ambience and vibe was on point. We got sat right away in the glass room. The waitress we had was super nice and attentive. I feel bad but I forgot her name! We ordered the 1880 drink and the old fashion. They both came out delicious. For our appetizer we got the creamy Italian (not great) and main meals we got the honey nut squash ravioli and my fiancé for the short rib ragu. We sat for about 25 - 30 mins waiting for our food. It honestly felt longer but I'm giving an estimate. We both got whiskey sours to kill time and it just tasted like juice. Another waiter came by and randomly asked us to box up our appetizer during our meal which we thought was very strange. We didn't know what to say since we got caught off guard and just said yes to box it up. By the time we got our food, we were starving so we started digging in. We were a party of 4 for dinner. We were immediately greeted and our coats were checked when we entered. Very friendly and pleasant staff at the front entrance. I would agree with most other reviews about the decor and ambiance, it's a 10/10 without a doubt. The bar design is exceptional to say the least. Unfortunately, the food does not nearly on the same level. We had bread trio, three pieces of bread of an average quality at $15...ridiculous! The meatball appetizer was delicious but severed barely warm. The menu is a bit disjointed in my opinion. I'm not sure if they are trying to put their own spin on traditional favorites or what they're trying to accomplish. The spaghetti and meatballs had no taste and the bottom of the dish was filled with oil. The orecchiette with sausage and pesto sounded interesting but was practically inedible as the pesto has the consistency of Elmer's glue. The boneless ribeye was served on a plate with nothing on the side. Picture a white dinner plate with a 8-9oz steak on the plate and nothing else. The presentation was horrible. I don't recall the fish entree, I believe it was swordfish but it was overcooked and was dry. Again, poor presentation. Our servers were attentive and very polite but I found it a bit odd that they did not inquire why some of the entrees we ordered were barely touched. Small but nice selection of coffee, teas and desserts. The small fancy chocolates sent out with our check were one of the highlights. The prices are fair $$$ for the items offered but the quality has to improve to meet the price point. If they can improve their food quality, and I truly hope they do, I will return for an updated review. read more

Service was good as it was extremely busy and music was great! General manager was pompous, extremely rude and so out of line with his comments. This was the first time I was here and have never been talked to like that in my 65 years on this earth! I had a simple question and the question was not even posed to him as he inserted himself into an harmless conversation and verbally attacked me, tried to shame me and told me to leave!!! I stayed and had a nice time despite his horrific attitude! All I can say is he should not be permitted to talk to people period. He claims this is what the owner wants!!!! I find this hard to believe!! I sincerely hope the owner reads this and replaces such a mean, horrific bully! I recently dined at this restaurant, which boasts a great atmosphere with what they describe as a "NYC vibe." As someone who frequents NYC, there is room for improvement in capturing that authentic energy, sophistication & most importantly service. While I do genuinely enjoy the ambiance, I find it hard to justify the NYC-level pricing here in Scranton--especially when I could spend that same amount at my favorite spots in the city. For a local venue, the prices seem a bit steep especially when the service is not up to par. Despite it not being a busy time, our server was inattentive--we had empty glasses multiple times while waiting for food & I had no drink at the time our food arrived. Once we requested a drink, it took an unusually long time to receive it. We were sitting at a table right by the completely empty bar with a bartender that was not busy. Additionally, I have food allergies and was told substitutions were only allowed for similar items. With such a limited menu, this made things challenging. Even when a substitution was supposedly approved (switching one type of potato for another), we were still charged extra, They are inflexible with requesting simple changes.I had also dined here one other time and got the fettuccine and would have loved to add grilled chicken or salmon but that is not an option. I find restaurants in NYC much more flexible and accommodating. The most troubling part of the experience, however, was the filet mignon I ordered. It arrived already cut into--something I've never seen before at any restaurant. This leads me to believe it may have been a returned dish from another guest, which is completely unacceptable. No professional kitchen should ever serve a pre-cut filet. This was also one of the few times none of us found any of the desserts appealing enough to order. Overall, while the restaurant has potential and a stylish atmosphere, the service, pricing, lack of flexibility, and questionable food practices left me disappointed. I truly hope they can address these issues, but right now, it falls short of expectations. read more

Only came here for a few after dinner drinks to check it out. The atmosphere is certainly high class, resembling a nice nyc restaurant (being a nyc transplant, def on par). We grabbed a pair of seats at the bar around 8 or so, towards the end of the dinner rush. Ordered a specialty cocktail and a bourbon neat. As soon as the bartender found out we did not want food, we were brushed off for the rest of the night. The couple next to us, similarly there for just a few after dinner cocktails said the same thing. We felt the bartender just disregarded us because our tab wouldnt be as high without food so she just gave us an attitude. She seemed impatient with other guests as well coming up to the bar, seemingly annoyed that they were asking her, the bartender, for drinks. She dropped the check off ten minutes after we asked for it hastily when we said we didnt want another round. The other bartenders were even noticing and tried to make up for it and were very nice. They took our payment because the first bartender kept walking past us. $30+ for two drinks. Expected at a fine dining establishment. Lil high for the area but i get it. The menu looked good, some interesting dishes, on par with a finer dining restaurant. The prices reflect it as well. I saw some dishes being brought out, they looked decent. Im not sure if I want to return. Ill update for food if i do. I love eating at nice restaurants that remind me of nyc, and had high hopes for this place. read more

Very nice atmosphere. Cocktails were well-made. All of the food we ordered was great, but the mushroom burrata stood out as unique. Our server was friendly and timely. My only suggestion would be to avoid the top mezzanine as the seating is a bit awkward. The walkway is too close to the seating. We would choose the main dining or bar next time. read more
