We came here for the first time to try it out. They advertised happy hour and happy hour bites. When we went inside, they said the happy hour bites weren't being honored due to a menu change, which was fine and no biggie. We ordered two drinks and some food. The prices were a bit expensive, even ordering happy hour drinks. Our total came out to around $41. We ordered a strawberry margarita, the whorechata, a pulled pork melt and the Chicago-ish dog. The food was great. I can't complain there. We didn't have any one come to our tables, I just assumed we get up and order ourselves. We only stayed for one drink and good. Wow!! This visit was a little bit of good and not so good. We were told to seat ourselves which we did. We sat a picnic table in the middle of everyone. We must have seen two waitresses that passed us by over a twenty minute period with no hello or how can I help you. So we went inside to wait in line to order our drinks and the bartenders were doing there best to keep up with the rush. Once we had our drinks in hand we decided to move tables under the shade but one again it took forever to have a waitress attend to us. Over the course of the evening we had to either get up and get our own drinks or search for our waitress. They were under staffed for this Sunday Funday crowd. It's a great place for families get out for awhile. The food was great I recommend the pizza. It was yummy! Will i come again probably not. But you should give it a try just once. read more

Nice atmosphere that is family friendly. I want expecting to see cats running around the tables. I'm not an animal person and especially don't to mix animals with my food. But the cats were a staple to the restaurant (they have names). The kids love them too. After a while I didn't see them so I was able to relax a bit. The drinks are really nice and refreshing. The music is really good. They were a bit short staffed a believe and our waitress was very frazzled and it showed! The kids have a great time there! Cat stole a piece of our pizza !! There are at least 4 stray cats hanging out. Went to push the kids on the swings and it was gone. Try to scare them away and they just look at you. The chairs are these tiny metal and hardwood stools that great for elementary school children but, for adults, especially tall adults they are hard and no back rest. The first order of nachos came out cold, but they were replaced rather quickly with a plate of hot nachos. They were a little heavy handed with the caramelized onions, and I'd advise to get the barbecue-Buffalo sauce on the side. The pepperoni pizza was good; the boys liked it. The 12" size was plenty. I was hoping that the Oscar salad would be as delicious as the description made it sound , but it was just okay. It was pretty watery for some reason. The honey-siracha was more sweet than spicy, and the salad was just needing a touch of salt that the bacon did not provide like it was supposed to. Who said this place is less than five star?!! Perhaps they need to give this place another chance. We ordered the truffle and parm fries that's so good, plus we got an extra free serving/order from our good waiter/server (we shared it to a group of nice ladies/dog lovers next table.) Also can't forget the delish can't believe it's not a burger sandwich we ordered. It's really very good, moist, tender and flavorful. My running group meets here every week (Thursdays at 6:15. Join us!), so I've been here a lot. There's quite a bit of parking in the front and in the back. There's a lot of seating out back (hence, the backyard) that has picnic tables and other outdoor seating. There's a place for the kids to play as well. The drink selection is pretty decent, and the happy hour prices are reasonable. I love their sangria! This place gets four stars because the food isn't great. It's bar food and just ok. This is a great place to chill and hang out with friends. I recommend it especially when the weather cools. read more

Thank the Yelp staff for an exciting event. Backyard on Broadway is a fantastic place to enjoy an evening with or without friends. At this event we're served chicken on a stick with a roasted jalapeño and it was great! The backyard area was fantastic with lots of picnic tables with benches, high tables and bar chairs, a play area for the children, a smoking area for the patrons who smoke, a very nice stage and an upstairs deck overlooking the backyard, how great is that. There are two large BBQ pits for private gatherings, corn hole game boards and a nice bar inside with lots of liquor. There is also an outside bar for more patrons. The entire area is very nice and comfortable, dogs were even allowed to this event! RECOMMENDATION: I highly recommend the Backyard on Broadway for get togethers or just chillin' out, it is a very nice establishment. read more

I'm very disappointed with this place. We used to love coming, been several times. Today we brought our kids to play and the restaurant was not busy or full. There are 20+ tables outside around the playground, a few of which were occupied. However we were told that there would be a 30 minute wait. We asked if our kids could play on the playground while we waited and ordered drinks at the bar that was not busy. We were told no. I'm not understanding why there was a wait when there were 10+ empty tables outside and 5 or so empty tables inside. Not only was this frustrating, but the way the woman denied us was not settling and did not ease our frustration. There was no explanation or reasoning given. Another server even recognized that we had been here before and tried accommodating us but the other server insisted we would not be able to sit or allow our kids to play. This is just very disappointing to deal with when you have antsy kids that are hungry and full of energy. read more

If Spurs Jesus hangs out here, you KNOW it's the place to be! This is an *awesome* place for Sunday Funday, or any other day or night of the week! They have a decent sized parking lot considering the part of town they are in. If there's an event going on, the parking lot might fill up, but you can find street parking within a couple of blocks. Easy breezy. Inside, there's a spacious bar area with a few tables to hang out at and sip on your ice-cold beers or mixed drinks. They have a full bar and a decent craft brew selection. They don't have in house food, but they do usually have a food truck or two. There's a deck out front, deck out back, and even a deck upstairs. We also had to wait 45 min inside for a table outside when there were tons of outside tables available. When I asked why we couldn't sit outside they said they were short staffed and they didn't have anyone to serve us outside. Cool backyard bar in the middle of busy Broadway. It's big with inside seating, upstairs seating and outside seating. If you sit outside, I really hope you like kids because they are all over the place. I think the day I went the kids outnumbered the adults. They have a huge playgroup for the kids. The have an inside and an outside bar. They had great specials and the bartenders were fast. The day I went, they were selling food. I'm not sure if this is typical as it was St. Patrick's day. They had chicken on a stick, bbq, hot dogs. Parking is easy in the front and in the back of the bar. The only thing I would say was annoying was that the music was extremely loud for a Sunday at noon. We couldn't hear each other and this was outside. No river views, but from the elevated deck you can keep an eye on your kids AND see the back-nine of a municipal golf course. The pizza is not good here. They must have changed their recipe. They use to have a thick crispy crust and gooey cheese type pizza that's hard to find in SA. Now they have a thin chewy (not crispy) crust with hardly any cheese. New sauce tastes like fermented tomato paste. Topped with a bunch of Italian seasoning which is a red flag in itself. Totally ruined dinner. I never write reviews but this pizza (particularly the sauce) is making my tummy rumble so I just had to throw this penalty flag out there. Cool backyard though. read more

Ambiance was very nice.. service was average. It took 45 min to get an order of chips and queso and a churro. I was charged for a side of salsa although it was the same small size as the queso. I don't mind paying for extras but the queso size was not a size commensurate to sizes in San Antonio. The crowd size was small so not sure about the wait time for food and drinks. We loved the live music, it was great and enjoyed the atmosphere. We would give it another chance but reluctant if it was busier. I was really excited to try this place. I've been seeing their social media posts about their big backyard area and it looks just like the kind of place I'd like to go hang out. I finally had a friend in town & we decided to stop here to check it out on our way home after spending our Sunday afternoon downtown. We arrived a little later in the evening, just before 10pm. There was a sign on the door that said they had sold out of food but they were still open for drinks. Perfect, drinks are what we came for! However, upon entering we received a somewhat icy welcome from the bartender. There were maybe six other patrons in the whole establishment so it is possible that she was really ready to go home. But, as this was my first time coming to a place I'd been looking forward to trying, It really put a damper on my experience. We went ahead & ordered a couple of domestic beers so that we could get out of the bar area quickly. I was slightly taken aback when my Michelob Ultra bottle rang up to just under $5.50. I'm used to paying between $3-4 for a bottle of mic ultra in most places which isn't far off but ~$5.50 is a little steep for a patio bar setting. It was a nice evening so we chose to sit outside on the picnic tables. Their backyard area is spacious with plenty of seating and a stage area for live music. They have a live music series on Sundays but it's earlier in the day, 2-5pm. When we were there, it was mostly vacant but I could definitely see how it would be a fun place to hang with some friends on a nice afternoon. There was also a playground area with a slide to keep the kiddos busy if you so choose to bring them along. To sum it up, my first experience here wasn't that great. However, this place has so much potential to be one of my favorite places to hang with friends on a lazy afternoon. Hopefully it was just an off night. I will have to give it another try at a later day. read more

New family friendly meet up spot!! Revamped outdoor area is amazingly huge and sectioned off perfectly. One section full of outdoor patio furniture, outdoor bar, adult swings, outdoor stage on the lawn, multi levels on the wooden deck, then off around the corner, a great play area for the kids! Large shaded playground with corn hole, giant connect four, Astro terf, jinga etc. so impressed! Perfect 5 star review if they had a smidge more food options on the small food menu. Mostly appetizers on the menu and small bites, would love to see burgers or sandwiches. Came for a family birthday, ordered: chicken tenders, wings, fries, pizza, and fried pickles. All delicious! Bit of a hiccup with some issues in the kitchen but the management staff comp'd our order...super classy!! They really care about your business and experience and it shows. Awesome place for families, the outdoor patio is huge and fenced with a playground, sun sails for shade and music that still lets you carry a conversation. The food is fresh and good, we shared sliders, fries and mozzarella sticks for brunch, happy with all the choices -- and it turned out to be affordable. I really enjoyed my visit here. We were looking for a place close by that had a playground for my 3 year old to burn some energy and where my husband and I could have a drink or two. This place was exactly what we were looking for. As it got later, couples without kids trickled in. You can tell this is a place to go with or without kids. A band was getting ready to start playing and people started transitioning over towards the stage. We did not try the food but looked like the usual bar food.
