I wasn't going to write any reviews because I just don't want to spend time doing it. But when I showed pictures of the cake Cory created for my daughter to my family and friends, I knew I had to write one. I was also reminded by my cousin and sisters about that rip off cake I received last year for my son. The cake we all called the Photocopy cake ( see review for Yummy Yonnie Cakes) But first, let me tell you about CORY'S cakes from HEY CAKE THIS! Cory does not limit the style, colour, theme, flavour, filling or size of the cake. He gives his clients free range. But keep in mind, price will obviously go up the more elaborate your imagination. If you can imagine it. He will create it! I reached out to Cory to get an idea of how much a Poppy cake would be and I even sent a picture I found online to him for reference. I told him to put many flowers and make the cake pink. I wanted strawberry filling, with fresh strawberries and a vanilla cake. Boy did he deliver! The cake I received exceeded my expectations. Everything on that cake was fondant. He cut out all the flowers, the letterings, the number, AND the star of the cake.... POPPY! He made a 2D Poppy! Nothing on that cake was a photocopy image stuck onto sugar paper. Look carefully at Poppy. Her dress, the eyes and mouth. So much details. Cory handprinted some of the details on her too. I commented on his Poppy and how I appreciated him not doing a photocopy image. He told me if the image is not complex he will do all it all freehand. I only gave I'm a week and a half for this cake too! Due to the pandemic, Cory offered free delivery. He wanted to make sure his cake was in the best condition for his clients. Cory is also very considerate. When he arrived, he actually took out a fold up table to place his cake on. He did not want to put the cake on the floor or ground where it could pick up germs. After he put it on the table, he stepped back (social distancing) so that I could take it. The box the cake came in was GOLD with a pink ribbon to complete the look. Did you know he actually MAKES all his boxes the cakes go into? No cheap see through cellophane. But a nice gold colour cardstock box. This is better because if the cake was to be a surprise , the box will definitely keep the cake hidden. My kids recycled the box and make gold cut out starts and crowns for their dolls. Cory is definitely a master cake creator. He will not disappoint. The communication between him and I for the cake was awesome. Before he went ahead with anything he was unsure of, he reached out to me. He wanted to make sure his suggestions was something I would also like. Vancouver is fortunate to have their own 'Duff Goldman'. I regret not having found him sooner to make my cakes. The Photocopy cake was an expensive lesson. Don't go to a place that limits you or brush your feedback off. GO TO CORY from HEY CAKE THIS! You won't be disappointed! I look forward to my two other cakes in the next few weeks! I came here because my niece had bought the same mango cake in the past and it was so fresh and delicious. And the price is so much more reasonable. The entire cake is covered in mango and the filling also had mango. And they use fresh cream. The place is unassuming and sparse and the wall is covered in photos of mostly wedding cakes sent in by the people who ordered here thanking the couple who made their a perfect with great cakes. Ordered an 8 inch fresh mango cake for $65 and it definitely delivered the WOW factor!! She made the cake fresh, on the day of pickup and it's truly one of the best fresh mango cake I have had. This cake was deserving of driving across town against rush hour Hastings traffic to pick up and Yan Bakery may become the only place I would go for fresh mango cakes in Vancouver. IMO, Helen's fresh mango cake was way way better than La Foret, Maxim, St Germaine's or T&T, just to name a few places where I have ordered mango cakes. I think Helen is a great bakery owner because cakes delivered met expectations. I can feel the baker's dedication at Yan's as each cake uses fresh ingredients and made to order. My other favorite cake would be the Raspberry Chantilly Cake from Whole Foods, though pre-made, that cake also shares same success elements of awesome fresh cake ingredients and impeccable tasting cream. No ambiance factor to comment because this is a bakery dedicated to making custom cake orders for birthday or weddings so there is no fancy decor in shop. I didn't find other baked goods sold here and no dine-in option for coffee. Located in a strip mall so there's free parking available when picking up cakes...convenient and free parking is always a plus in Vancouver! All in all, Helen is a good business owner with great attention to detail, she and her husband makes a good team in ensuring cakes are prepared well and ready for on time pickup - granting them 5 stars for both food and service.

I was finally able to snatch a Surprise Bag and I absolutely loved it! I got two slices of their Vegan Matcha Raspberry + Pistachio Cake and their Vegan Vanilla Bean Shortbread. The cake was perfection. Perfectly moist, great matcha flavour, the matcha buttercream filling is heavenly, and the raspberries and pistachio compliments the cake. I was in love with the welcoming ambiance. There's a fridge with cakes to go, and the treat window was filled with sweet goodies to stock up on. There's not much of a seating area--just two armchairs--so it's more of a takeaway spot. We purchased cake trifles (Red Velvet & Cardamom), stuffed cookies (Lotus Biscoff & Cardamom Pistachio Chai), and sweet spot cakes (Mango Lassi & Kulfi) to go. Everything was delicious! The cookies weren't overly sweet and had the perfect chewy texture. My favorite was the Cardamom Pistachio Chai. Unfortunately, our visit happened to be during the heavy winds when most of the Lower Mainland had a power outage. I was so happy they were still open, as we had driven all the way from East Van to get there. They were flexible enough to take e-transfer as payment, which was a lifesaver. And lucky for us, we got to meet the man behind the bakery, Jujhar! Even though he was busy dealing with the power outage, he still took the time to say hello, which was really nice. I wish they were closer, but maybe it's a blessing in disguise because my wallet and waistline would definitely be in trouble. Overall, Mann & Co Bakeshop is absolutely worth the visit, even with a bit of a drive. The creative flavors, high-quality treats, and friendly service make it a standout spot for baked goods.
