I discovered Le Gateau Bakeshp because I regularly use the Too Good To Go app. This place had a really high rating within the app and it was always had to snatch one of their Surprise Bags. I was finally able to snatch a Surprise Bag and I absolutely loved it! I got two slices of their Vegan Matcha Raspberry + Pistachio Cake and their Vegan Vanilla Bean Shortbread. The cake was perfection. Perfectly moist, great matcha flavour, the matcha buttercream filling is heavenly, and the raspberries and pistachio compliments the cake. The shortbread cookie were also great.. finished them pretty quickly! I was really impressed. I am definitely planning on getting the next birthday cake from here cause they all look amazing. Very disappointing. We were hoping this would be our wedding cake baker and now we're back on the hunt. We ordered an assortment of cupcakes (red velvet, mango coconut and carrot cake) and a small 6 inch with lemon curd and blueberries and raspberries. We couldn't finish the red velvet or the mango coconut cupcakes. They were both dry and stale. The carrot cake was good (not great!) The cake . It was also not fresh and some of the berries had a moldy taste. We ate several bites hoping it would get better and even had two other people try it. We all agreed-it was not good. Le Gateau did an amazing job on my friend unicorn birthday cake! Cake was even dairy AND soy free! Chocolate ganache cake was very good. The frosting was a little on the sweeter side but that's because it was dairy free. Excellent communication and answered calls / email right away. By bus it's a block from Kootney Loop (walk across the street and towards the PNE.) The cookies are yummy! Tanya makes a lot of yummy treats at this location and I would not hesitate to try them out. They have a case full of sweets and desserts in the front and it's nice to be able to look at the back where they are baking and rolling dough. I ordered a custom birthday cake for my 25th birthday and everyone loved it! I got compliments from my friends and the waitress at the restaurant we ate at. They all thought it was the coolest birthday cake they've seen! I recommend getting a cake from here because they make custom cakes all the time and are reliable in creating whatever you can imagine. As well, their cakes are the best tasting cakes that I have had for a birthday and their prices are really good! My cake was less than $100 and fed way more than my friends birthday cake (from somewhere else) that was smaller and more expensive. This is a bakery that seems to depend more on cake orders than street traffic as there isn't any seating and only a small number of tarts, cookies and cakes available for individual purchase. I've stopped by a few times to pick up a sweet treat for the afternoon. Today, I got a salted caramel cupcake. This was very good- the buttercream icing was not overly sweet and the cake was moist. Exceptional cake when you need it... planned or not... It's my mother's birthday. I had been meaning to call the restaurant to ask them if I could bring a cake. Since we were going out, I thought it was poor form to bring a cake, I should be getting a dessert from them. But then my aunt told me to get one because she had brought a cake there for one of her friends. Okay. SOLD. I had read about this place because someone I know had checked in here. I also know where it is exactly because it was in someone's review. So I walk in with my hubby and I look at the cakes she has ready. An 8-inch and a 10-inch, both chocolate. Hmm... I hem and haw thinking that those two are way too big. I mean, I am feeding it to three seniors... they don't eat that much. The baker (I have gleaned her name is Tanya from Roanna Z's review) tells me that she can make me a carrot 6-inch in an hour. Whoa... no need to rush. I am at your mercy. You can take your time. We come back four hours later to pick up a beautiful cake covered in cream cheese icing. The cake was most with chunks of pineapple and raisins. I hate raisins. Nature's candy pretty much sucks to me. Couldn't even taste them. She told me I wouldn't and she was right. The little sugar flowers were so pretty. Our server at the restaurant asked me where I got the cake cause it's so pretty. I told her and gave her a hunk (my mom cut the cake in six and we only ate three pieces) to try. I then stole it out of my mom's fridge a day later. So good. Pricing is reasonable... I'm gonna go back and ask her to make me a cake covered in fondant. read more

Le Gateau recently opened up about 4 blocks from my house, which is both convenient and horrible, because now I am going to gain like 500 pounds. I've had the chance to try a few things now so I will do this in point form. I like being organized. -The Ginger Molasses Cookies. These were pretty good. I bought them to see if I liked them better than the ones at Starbucks. They were different, there was more spice to them. I accidentally ate the whole bag and then I got heartburn but I kinda feel like it was worth it. -Vegan Red Velvet Cupcakes. I sent my vegan roomie up the street to grab some while we were being lazy and watching movies. I actually don't like cream cheese icing because I am some sort of freak, so these were way better than any of the real red velvet cupcakes I've had. The cake part was nice and dense, and the icing tasted butter creamy. It wasn't too sweet, either. They were perfect! A bit on the small side for $3 each though. -Vegan Mini Cake. This one was insanely fudge-y. It was topped with a single blueberry and had a few cake layers near the bottom. I couldn't finish my half because it was just so rich, but it was awesome. My roomie wolfed hers down immediately. -Vegan Date Bar. I actually quite liked this. The flavours were mild so it felt more like breakfast than a dessert, but in a good way. I'd get this again for sure. -Cheese Scone. I only ate a bite so that I could get this review started. I think I'm going to save it for later and melt cheese on it because it seems like it would make a pretty awesome late night cheesy snack. It seems a bit dry, but it is tasty! I'll always suggest more cheese though. I reeeeeally wanted the Cameo Valentine Sugar cookies. I'll probably be back for those... they're so cute! read more

But when it came down to it I went with some gourmet marshmallows (so fluffy and amazing, where have they been all my life?!), a lemon tart, and a fudge brownie. I first heard about this place on yelp, and saw some great reviews. Since it was new I felt like giving it a try. The owner was very quick to respond to my e-mails which was a pleasant surprise to me. The place is very small and easy to miss, so it's best to park your car or get off a station close to the area. Especially if you have a horrible sense of direction like me. The bakery is small, but there was a good amount of selection. Staff was pleasant, and efficient. I got my cake, and presented it to the birthday girl. There was only one problem. Her name was spelled wrong, and I didn't even notice until someone else pointed it out to me. We had a good laugh about it, because I really should of noticed it first. The cake itself was actually really good. Nice and fluffy, and the cream cheese icing was nice and sweet. I would recommend the bakery to those who are lucky enough to be in the area, but for those who are not, it is a long drive to get out to their location, and I would recommend it to people who want good custom cakes. Stopped by this small bakery shop as I had been wanting to try this place for some time. I see this place on my way to work everyday and finally made the effort to pick up some baked goods. I bought two cupcakes and two macarons. I had the earl grey and matcha cupcakes. Plus, a rose and a pistachio macarons. The cupcakes were $3 each and the macarons were $2 each. The icing on the cupcakes was amazing. Creamy, decadent, lightly sweetened and I can taste the hint of buttery goodness. The cupcakes were a touch on the drier and crumbly side. Earl grey flavour was very mild whereas the matcha flavour was very strong. The macarons were good. Both tasted as described and were well made and symmetrical looking. I had to get a cake for my wife's 30th birthday, but I waited until the absolute last minute (for some reason getting a cake totally slipped my mind). I called a few other places, and they pretty much told me it would be impossible to have something in time. On top of that, their prices were soooo much higher than I wanted to pay Le Gateau came to rescue; their price was the most reasonable of anywhere I called; but their cake was also THE BEST. I've never had a better cake. My wife wanted a red velvet cake, and we ended up getting the best red velvet cake I've ever eaten. It got rave reviews at the party too. They managed to make it i 24 hours, which no other bakeshop could do. The owner here is also incredibly nice. I will be back for all future cakes. A great bakeshop read more
