I live in Honolulu and was going to Maple Ridge to see family & looking for 3 cakes to celebrate 3 birthdays, a gluten free cupcake, a delicious, special birthday cake for my sister & a regular cupcake. I spoke with Sara, a friendly, knowledgeable person. We discussed their popular cakes and I selected their black forest cake because Sara told me the cherries were special and delicious. My niece said that her gluten free chocolate cupcake was moist and had a good texture. I "accidently tasted the buttercream frosting and it was very good. The black forest cake was phenomenal, I have never tasted a better cake, and yes, the cherries were scrumptious! The whipped cream frosting was rich, delicious and tasted like 100% whipped cream. Dark chocolate shavings generously adorned the sides of the cake with plenty of loose shaving to have a taste. All 8 adults raved about the cake and agreed that it was the most delicious thing that they have ever tasted. When we arrived to pick-up the cake, we could not resist the yummy, well displayed cakes, muffins, giant cookies & variety of other baked goods. I selected a mini ginger bundt with cream cheese filling & crystalized ginger, pecan orange giant cookie & oatmeal raisin giant cookie. The bundt had a good balance of molasses complimented the cream cheese frosting. When I visit Maple Ridge again, I will be sure to stop by to load up on their goodies & another black forest cake...unfortunately, my niece is celiac and unable to indulge in most of the pastries. I'll be dreaming about the black forest cake from Hawaii for a long long time! Sorry, I neglected to take pictures.

Presentation was very nice. When I sipped, the hot chocolate texture was very very creamy and l liked it. Then, Umami(soy sauce) flavor came through and became sweet and savory flavor. However, as they mentioned, " subtle" , umami flavor faded, later on, it became a sweet hot chocolate. Soy garlic biscotti was a bit chewy and It had a strong soy sauce flavor. And for those who are keen on Persian pastries and other goods, or those who are just into trying new things, then this place is for you. It appears Tishin is on mission to culture Westerners while living the Canadian dream. When you walk in you might feel claustrophobic with all kinds of grocery and imported sundries from the Middle East region surrounding you. All the merchandise was tightly stacked up and down the walls, and packed in the shelves, within the relatively small area. There's even a cold case they managed to squeeze in there with fresh refrigerated foodstuffs. On one half of the store there are pastries galore. The sweet treats fill the display cases and stacked full on top of the counters. I'm in awe of the variety of different items and how much is on hand. It begs the question...How do they produce so much?? There's gotta be some elves, or smurfs, or oompa loompas, or mice named Gus Gus, or some kind of helpers behind the scenes baking like the wind. The pastries are generally pretty light in sweetness and in density, unlike the heavy, highly sugary baked goods that we are used to, which makes it perfect to eat with the Persian tea (Yes, they sell that). You can tell that care and precision went into all the lovely bakery items. The woman working the counter, presumably the owner, was a reflection of the pastries. She was lighthearted and sweet and eager to help you fill your pastry-lovin, pie hole. The place is jam packed with goodies that look intriguing and delicious. Once you walk into this store you will be undoubtedly be hit by the fragrant aroma of their pastries. Your stomach will immediately make room for dessert. Apparently talking to the owner, they have been at this location for 8 years!!! Yet I have never heard of them...perhaps their core customer base is the Iranian community. I kind of bumped into it by accident. Their pastries are sold by the weight. Interesting concept. The dozen of bites we ordered came to be less than 10$. Good deal. Iranian desserts is very unique with all sorts of spices!!! Colour and taste profile one normally not associated with desserts. The inside feels like you've been transported to Asia despite the shop's unassuming exterior. There are lots of delicious pastries to choose from. Their specialty are dacquoise and cakes. They also have a variety of coffee and tea. There are lots of tables inside and the decorations are gorgeous. The staff is always very welcoming and helpful. When I came on a weekend midday, there was no one in the cafe, so it's an excellent place to sit and enjoy a drink in peace :)

The cafe is also the production place so you can see the pastries made fresh in front of you. I brought 4 almond meringue dacquoises and a Madeline cake for takeout. Personally, I liked the double chocolate flavor the most as it tastes less sweet than others. The dacquoise shells are fluffy and crispy and taste lighter than the regular macaroons. If you like French pastry and sweet buttercream, give this local bakery a try.
