The owners are so nice and accommodating. I had the wrong date for a cake order and when I went to pick it up I was too early. They graciously offered to make it on the spot. I came here because my niece had bought the same mango cake in the past and it was so fresh and delicious. And the price is so much more reasonable. The entire cake is covered in mango and the filling also had mango. And they use fresh cream. The place is unassuming and sparse and the wall is covered in photos of mostly wedding cakes sent in by the people who ordered here thanking the couple who made their a perfect with great cakes. In the spirit of International Women's Day, I would like to leave a 5 star review for local bakery owner, Helen. Awesome foods -- I.e. very very yummy cake! Ordered an 8 inch fresh mango cake for $65 and it definitely delivered the WOW factor!! She made the cake fresh, on the day of pickup and it's truly one of the best fresh mango cake I have had. I was impressed at how the mangoes were so sweet and fresh and yes, all natural, with no sugar coating. And the cream on cake was excellent - fresh and luxurious feeling. I loved how the cream on cake did not overpower mangoes, perfect sweetness with very smooth texture, bringing out the mango fruity taste and pairs perfectly with the vanilla sponge cake which is light and fluffy. Everyone, from young pre-teen to old senior age, enjoyed this bday cake after dinner. The 8" cake was more than enough to share between our dinner party of 12 with various diet restrictions - some wanted bigger slice while some could only sample a taste of sugar and still other foodies like myself who hoarded a second slice lol. This cake was deserving of driving across town against rush hour Hastings traffic to pick up and Yan Bakery may become the only place I would go for fresh mango cakes in Vancouver. IMO, Helen's fresh mango cake was way way better than La Foret, Maxim, St Germaine's or T&T, just to name a few places where I have ordered mango cakes. I think Helen is a great bakery owner because cakes delivered met expectations. I can feel the baker's dedication at Yan's as each cake uses fresh ingredients and made to order. My other favorite cake would be the Raspberry Chantilly Cake from Whole Foods, though pre-made, that cake also shares same success elements of awesome fresh cake ingredients and impeccable tasting cream. No ambiance factor to comment because this is a bakery dedicated to making custom cake orders for birthday or weddings so there is no fancy decor in shop. I didn't find other baked goods sold here and no dine-in option for coffee. Located in a strip mall so there's free parking available when picking up cakes...convenient and free parking is always a plus in Vancouver! All in all, Helen is a good business owner with great attention to detail, she and her husband makes a good team in ensuring cakes are prepared well and ready for on time pickup - granting them 5 stars for both food and service. read more

We ordered our wedding cake from them. I remembered contacting them and going in for a cake tasting. It felt like it was yesterday. They can do any design you want and they even delivered the cake to the restaurant for us. Helen is super friendly and we absolutely loved the cake and design. There are several flavours of the sponge and fillings to choose from. We received many positive feed back from our guests for the cake and some even asked where we got the cake. We got a vanilla sponge cake with assorted fruit filling. The sponge cake was fluffy and soft and not too sweet so it paired perfectly with the fruit filling. I was promised fresh fruit but the fruit was still frozen when we bit into it. The cake box was actually too small for this cake so the front of it got smudged. The only thing I order here is the Fresh Mango Cake. I get this cake every year on my birthday and now all my friends want this cake for their birthdays too! This cake is a simple sponge cake (Chinese sponge cake) with a layer of fresh cream and mango chunks in the middle and topped with fresh mango slices, berries and other fruits on top. This cake is $20 for a 8 inch (I think it was 8 inches...could be 6 inches) and they can finish making one within 40 minutes. Sadly, I have yet to try their other cakes. But you cannot go wrong with this one! O yes, I recommend getting this cake in the summer, as mangoes are much tastier during the summer time. And I also recommend eating this cake asap. However, I was referred to this bakery by a friend who had her wedding cake made here. She said everything about the place was positive so I went there to give this place a try for MY birthday cake. I ordered blueberry mousse cake and it was just delicious! Ever since then I have been going back to Yan Bakery for more birthday cakes and wedding cake. The only issue I had was with the wedding cake as it arrived late because the driver had an incident along the way and Helen had to deliver the cake herself. 1st time ordering Mango cake, saw all the great reviews. I've ordered a 8inch mango cake for $43. The price is more than other Chinese bakeries so I had big expectations. I drove all the way from Coquitlam just to purchase and try this mango cake. So, here's mine...definitely delicious and more fluffier than your TnT or maxim bakery however, i was a little disappointed in the top mango layering. I thought they could of used a few more layers of overlapping mangoes; i mean you are paying for more. I like the fact that they didn't put a glaze on top of the mangoes, this made it taste even more fresh. In summary, delicious fresh fluffy mango cake, but needs to load up the mangoes. For my birthday I had the green tea sponge with lychee mouse. OMG! This cake did not disappoint! I've had green tea sponge from other places and I could never taste it. Yan's green tea sponge had flavor and wasn't dry. The lychee mouse had the hint of flavor so it want over powering. I appreciated that since it would've overwhelmed the sponge flavor. I would not recommend this place at all. Although Yan Bakery did an excellent job with my wedding cake a few years ago, it looks like this business has gone terribly downhill since that time. I had placed an order for a blueberry mousse cake over the telephone two days prior to my mother's birthday and had stated that I would arrive at around 3:00 pm or so to pick up the cake. On the day of my mother's birthday, I drove all the way to East Van from the westside in the rain through rush hour traffic to pick up my mother's cake so that I can celebrate with her and the rest of my family. I arrived expecting the cake to be ready. However, when I went inside the bakery, the place looked very disorganized and poorly managed - not at all like the place I remember walking into with my then fiance and now husband to inquire about wedding cakes. Back then, I remember being treated so nicely and professionally as well as being quoted with a reasonable price for our cake that we decided right then and there to place a custom order with Yan Bakery. Not only was I treated horribly when I went to pick up my mother's birthday cake, but Helen told me that she thought I said I would come in at 5:00 pm and that they don't actually have my mother's cake ready yet. She also stated that they should have it ready for me in about an hour and that they close at 7:00 pm on that day. I told her that we had an understanding that I would come pick it up at around 3:00 pm on the day of my mother's birthday. At that point, I was really angry inside because not only did she not apologize for screwing up an order that I had placed two days prior. She almost ruined my mother's birthday! I believe that two days should be enough time to make a birthday cake. Now let me tell you that I have ordered cakes from both Chinese/Asian and European/Western bakeries and whether they were independently-owned or are franchises, I was always treated professionally at the minimum and they always had my cakes ready on the day of pick up even on the SAME DAY I placed the order. Although I was seething inside, I decided not to let my anger show and argue with Helen because I wanted to be the better person by being classy. So I just left the store and drove all the way back to where I started and decided to get one of the pre-made 8" cakes at St. Germain Bakery and have them write "Happy Birthday Mom!!" on the tiramisu cake I winded up choosing for my mother. I am not sure if the reason why this place has gone downhill and become so disorganized, and poorly managed with poor customer service is because they are thinking about closing in the near future. They do not seem to care at all about their customers anymore and nonchalant to the point where they don't even apologize for forgetting or screwing up a customer's order that they had placed two days prior. From now on, I will definitely be taking my business elsewhere at places that appreciate my business, that are always on top of things, and that produce cakes that are just as excellently made and flavourful as Yan Bakery. I would rather do business with the likes of big franchises like Anna's Cake House, Maxim's Bakery, Pine House Bakery, or St. Germain Bakery and even T&T Bakery. At least I know that when I place an order with them, I will be sure to get the cake ON TIME. It is a good thing that bakeries like them have ready-to-buy cakes for horrible and emergency situations like these. Whenever I need a "special occasion" cake Yan Bakery is the place that I head for. My absolute favourite cake is the mango cake but I have been equally impressed with the other flavours that I have ordered. I do not like overly sugary cakes which is one of the main reasons that I love the cakes at Yan Bakery. The cakes are very tasty without being cloying.
