This spot is located on the right side of a kung fu studio. Once we entered, it was very quiet inside but there were signs on the doors that guided us here. We were the only ones there on a Sunday afternoon, which was nice in a way because we had the coach and space to ourselves. We opted for the Standard, which was $26.98/person for 45 minutes. Throw first and pay at the end. First, we scanned a QR code and signed an online waiver. Then, the coach explained the rules and provided demos of how to throw with one hand and both hands behind and over the head. He was very friendly and provided tips and tricks throughout our session to improve our aim. Despite using a hatchet, which is meant for one hand, I thought it was too heavy so I had to use both hands. If you have enough arm strength, one hand is better because you can line up the axe with the target, which helps improve your aim. It was definitely harder than it looked and felt like a full body workout! The axe handles and targets looked a little run down. We walked in on a Saturday night and the venue was basically empty. Quickly signed a QR waiver and reviewed the safety instructions and we were rolling. Since it wasn't busy, our group of 3 was able to play simultaneously. While the ambiance is slightly lacking with it being super cold and brightly lit with gym lighting, the experience was really enjoyable. Our host was nice enough to lend us a tripod as we were trying to record some of our games! Also as the last group of the night, we got to try the large heavy axes. My advice would be to dress comfortably and expect some light strain on your back and arms. The place is sort of tucked in the martial arts building and at night does not look so welcoming. I've been here twice now and I think overall the experience is okay but could use some improvements. The whole experience was around $45/person for 90 minutes. It's kind of fun with friends but there are a few things to watch out for: 1) If you're new and don't really know how to throw axes, you might catch on quick and start landing some nice hits in the wood. Great! However if you aren't getting it as fast, then it can be pretty frustrating to just keep throwing axes and keep having them bounce off the walls, and you don't know how to fix your moves. There's actually quite a bit of technique involved on how to get axes to consistently stick in the wood. Once you get it, it feels really nice. The employee we had basically gave like no instruction or coaching at all which was a bit frustrating - he was difficult to understand and kept commenting about how out of it he was, which was really not something you should be constantly blurting out to your customers?! He threw an axe, missed.... And missed....Then he went back to the desk and never stopped by again. We were throwing the axes around for awhile and after some time, the other person came over to check on us. She was actually a lot more helpful. She saw me struggling to land throws and came over and gave me some pointers. Those small pointers helped me a lot and I started landing some more shots. I also noticed later she was helping another party and she gave them some coaching tips, so my friend and I were straining to listen to the tips! A little instruction goes a long way! 2) The wood boards seemed poorly maintained. You can see a lot of the deep cuts in much of the wood. I felt like the boards needed to be replaced. I felt like some of the throws would have landed except the wood was kind of beat up. 3) The facility is in like, a warehouse I guess, with basically no amenities. He was very patient, kind, and fun, and gave extremely helpful tips. It took me a while to get a hang of the motion and he spent about 15 minutes giving me pointers and adjustments to help me catch on since we were the only group there at the time. A great way to release some stress! Parking was very easy on a Saturday at noon. One side of the street was metered, while the other side was not! Came here with my coworkers (group of 9) on a Wednesday afternoon. PROS - Airy venue - We were able to use 4 lanes since another group at our time slot didn't show up. CONS.. - Not all lanes are made fairly depending on how f-d up the wood is. - No bar, food/drinks - Literally no instructions from the worker there other than the safety basics. What a chill job they have for sure. In previous axe throwing experience I had, we had a worker paired with us the entire hour we we were there. They taught us and helped us correct our posture so we could all get the hang of axe throwing. Then, when we were ready to play games, they would be the referee / game host / point keeper. I expected Bad Axe Throwing to do something similar since we reserved our booking way ahead of time and they had limited time slots each day. Instead, we all had to figure everything out ourselves. Axe throwing in a big warehouse in the middle of nowhere in Daly City, what could wrong? Haha. Fun place, bare-bones decent setup, the staff were nice and attentive. We had the whole place to ourselves since it was mid-week and so they allowed us to practice on multiple stalls since they were empty before we played a little competition. Slots are usually 1.5 hours but they allowed us to book 2 hours. This place doesn't have any food or drink at all, not even a vending machine. They allow you to bring in snacks, but no byob, which was kind of disappointing. I've never been to an axe throwing place without a liquor license! TIPS: - come early to fill out your waiver - get there right when they open if they have short hours, or else you'll be waiting a whole hours before it's your turn \ - the location is inside the kung fu building! I came here with three other friends on Saturday. There is a walk in schedule for the public that is posted on their website, which recommends checking two hours prior to the scheduled time listed as they are subject to change. It would suck to have to drive all the way out to realize they were closed. The schedule for walk-ins on the day that I went was 9-11:30PM. Seems pretty short. We got there a couple minutes before 9 and the worker greeted us. Our next step was to fill out the waiver. The link was written out on a whiteboard. So make sure at least one person in your group brings their phone! Otherwise you'll end up with FOMO. A few minutes later, a huge group of people came in! We had definitely beat the rush. My friends and I had two lanes, two per person. The worker explained all the rules to us and showed us the technique on how to do a two hand overhead throw. She also said we could do one hand, two at a time (one in each hand), and even underhand! It took her about 5 minutes to go over all the rules. Pretty much, throw at the same time, retrieve at the same time. That pretty much means if your friend in the other lane throws first, he/she must wait for you to finish your throw before you guys can retrieve your axes. You might think that's a silly rule, but these axes do BOUNCE! My friend threw her axe so hard, that it landed at my feet behind the lines that they have to guide you! We had exactly one hour of axe throwing. That was a lot of throws per per person! Combined with the fact that we were only two per lane?! Talk about bang for your buck! There were at least five different types of axes to choose from. Heavy, light, big, small. You name it, they'll probably have it. For only 20 dollars per person, this was definitely a great experience. I would go back to this place for sure. There are about 8 lanes. Two people per lane (if you're in separate groups), can fill up real fast. If you don't come early, you risk waiting a whole hour (like the poor souls behind us) before you get your turn, despite walking in only a few minutes after opening. Minus one star because it wasn't exactly easy to find at night in the pouring rain. There were no signs outside to indicate that I was in the right place that google maps brought me to. They do have a small parking lot. One side of the parking lot had 4 spots reserved for kung fu people. The other side of the lot is what I assumed to be for residents of the apartment. I had parked originally parked in the kung fu spot, but had gotten out of it to go find street parking. We went back INSIDE to the kung fu spot to realize that the axe throwing place shares the SAME BUILDING as the kung fu space! Goodbye princess parking :( oh well. Would recommend anyways. read more

I went here for a team building activity. We had so much fun! I was able to hit my target a couple of times. I still can't tell which axe I'm better at throwing. Depending on the axe, I can throw better with two axes together or 1 axe. Our team got divided in two. We played 3 different rounds and learned different techniques of throwing. It did drag when we had to hit the certain targets to win the round. But none of us were getting close to hitting the targets that we needed. Parking can be a hassle. They don't have their own parking spot since it's shared with other businesses located in the same building. There's meter parking if you find one that is unoccupied. Just remember to pay your meter. I was genuinely surprised at how much fun it was. I'd always wanted to try, but had seen several videos of close calls with axes bounce back that kept me from going lol. When my team booked it for a holiday event, I thought of it as a sign to finally take the plunge. It was even more fun than I imagined, and I left feeling really fulfilled and surprisingly proud of myself. The set up is very bare bones, but the instructors were very nice and gave us tips throughout the evening. By the end of our slot, you could see how much everyone had improved across the board from our first throws. I was skeptical of my own abilities, but I stuck the board a handful of times by the end of the 2 hrs (keep in mind it was a team event, so we had to take turns). Wear comfortable shoes and something warm. It's a warehouse and can get chilly. I was on my feet the entire time. As others have mentioned, no food in the space. I'd recommend going out before or after instead. Not really eater friendly even if you bring food, plus you'll be up doing the activity anyway. Just don't come hungry because you don't want to throw axes while hangry. I don't drive in the city much, this is on the outskirts of SF so it's not quite as scary. Conveniently close to 280. Because it was a warehouse, I thought there would be ample parking, but the lot is only for the karate place. I found parking a block up, but the neighborhood isn't the best. Definitely not your typical date night, but it could turn into that! Make sure you're around high spirited people that know how to have a good time. My friends and I joined during their walk-in hours on Thursday starting at 8:30pm. It's $20 a person for the first hour (minimum) and then $10 in 30 min increments after that. We arrived around 8:40pm and found street parking. It's pretty dark in that area and the parking lot spaces are all for the Kung Fu place. I mean I guess you can park there after hours, but since I'm not from the area, I wasn't going to take the chance and just drove around until somebody left from their crossfit class so I could have their spot. Basically right off the freeway, not too hard to find. It's at the end of the street past the other warehouses. If you see the Kung Fu place, you're there. The Bad Axe sign is somewhat small and hard to see. You walk through the door there are some terrible signs and go all the way down the hall until you hit the wall and there should be a door to your left side that saids do not leave open (the sound of things being thrown into the wall and metal clangs should let you know you're in the right place. There are signs everywhere once you arrive that tell you do sign their online waiver before being assisted. So pull your phones out and make sure you have data to fill it out- it gets checked before going over the rules and safety tips and how-tos. We got lucky because it looks like a couple decided they honestly weren't having fun and decided to call it a day early, so we got a spot! There's one instructor who does a good job of managing his group rental and able to get those who walked in. He showed us the two techniques on how to grip and throw the ax and provided safety tips. Took us to our space and let us have at it! Each stall is for at least two people and comes with a whiteboard and dry erase marker that he puts your start time on and you can keep score if you like. There's a bench with three chairs right behind the stall as well. It was hard to get a hang of in the first place, but once you do it's a blast. Channel your energy, anger, whatever you're feeling into the ax because it's great to release. It's harder than it looks and quite a workout on your arms! The hour took forever to go by and we all had a great experience. My only gripe is that there are going to be assholes there that don't follow the rules and do whatever they feel like, which makes me worry and ruined my experience. Sadly, the employee didn't tell them to stop since he was a little occupied with his large group reservation. So just make sure like all things, you practice safety and not be an a$$. Also, don't wear shorts or open-toed shoes, I mean these are the axes for godsakes. It makes for a great group event actually and the flow goes pretty smoothly! Also, credit card is the preferred payment of choice here which is great! Will definately be back for another experience and probably be better. First of its kind in the Bay Area that I know about. There is no food or drinks (not even water) sold on premise. We were told there was a Walgreens about 5 minutes away if we wanted food. We were the only people in the entire axe throwing. It was so quiet. Like absolutely not the axe throwing mood. We asked if we could play music and we're told no. We got a very short lesson but the guy teaching was VERY hard to understand. When he showed us a throw his ax bounced off the wall. Ummmm. The target itself was very chewed up (one board had been replaced recently) but it made it very lame.
