Super fun! I went there for my 18th birthday and had a great time. People were super welcoming and it was the perfect length!!

I've done Sandbox VR a number of times. Each year it gets better and better. They have a number of games like "Squid Games" and the "Deadwood" series. I prefer the shoot-em-up games like "Deadwood" because it is you (and your team) vs the zombies. The graphics are incredible and each year the virtual reality gets even more incredible. A new twist they now offer is a video that you receive that superimposes your immersive action. This really brings to life what you experienced and is a great memento. read more

I'm not really a gamer or VR guy, so I would normally not go to a place like Sandbox VR on my own. But luckily with work events, I get to try things I normally wouldn't do on my own. My expectations were low, since I was never impressed with home gaming VR devices that I've tried VR headsets at home. But the combination of VR, multiple people, tracking devices, and actually holding physical weapons made this a great VR experience. We played Amber Sky 2088, and we got sent a video highlight reel afterwards - which was a nice touch. All-in-all, an awesome time! read more

Yelp Elite event last night! The staff at Sandbox VR was very friendly and welcoming. Explaining directions well and were personable. The Squid Game was very fun and included three mini games. Very engaging and we moved around a lot! My only gripe is the visuals were a little blurry. I had to have my mask on at the perfect spot to see clearly. Others in my group had similar issues. Not sure if this is a common VR problem or Squid Game problem. Overall I'd love to come back and try another game! Would recommend for a birthday party or younger team outing! read more

This place is such a fun time. We played zombies and this was such a life lol experience. The virtual reality made it seem so real. We played with 4 members on one team and got a good workout in as well. The staff/team members here really take pride in what they do. I enjoyed this positive new arcade video game. It seems to be reminiscent of the Hobbit and Final Fantasy. Panorama goggles and hand and feet sensors...newer technology for video games. I was able to try it here in SF CA. On Market near Union Square. Similar to tourist activities for children back then. I had fun delightful and a peaceful way to be engaged. The building is modern and offered boxes with Asian snacks. Funny and I would go again to pretend you were in a "Final Fantasy." Uses a panorama goggle to learn skills for humans. Seems reminiscent of North Europe the folklore and myths they use. It's used in North America with school kids. read more

SO MUCH FUN!! I've done a few vr spots but nothing like this. They put trackers on yours arms and wrists. You get a helmet and things to hold in your hands, so the tracking is very accurate. They had a fun variety of games when we went from squid games, stranger things, fantasy and zombies. Amazing range! We ended up doing the fantasy one which ended up being a lot of fun. There were 4 of us and I have no idea how anyone could have more than 4 in a room. The rooms weren't that big honestly and I kept getting nervous that we were going to run into each other! The experience lasted around 30 mins and they provided us with a fun video at the end with some really funny highlights of us during our play through. Definitely would go here again! It's well worth it to be an actual participant in Squid Games (of which I am a huge fan), and they rotate/change up games from time to time! I am all about reality but there is a dimension of virtual reality that exists and I am all about the future and embracing the many different technologies. The Sandbox VR in downtown San Francisco attached to the Four Seasons Hotel on Market street is the spot for HTC introduce their new VR headset which is going to be the new normal headset across the different Sandbox VR locations. It was good to learn the different use cases for virtual reality today and in the future . It was a fun event especially when the Press Club offered an open bar of wine and there was all you can eat Shake Shack. I first tried the tasty cheese burger and with the red wine it is a good combination . Then there was the crispy chicken sandwich from Shake Shack which was delicious along with the chicken nuggets. I then put on the VR set on and it was a game of the Squid Games and it was fun to compete with everyone within the group. The head set felt comfortable and was easy to navigate. Playing the game felt as I was a participant in the real Squid Games. The audio and visuals were stimulating .This Sandbox VR location does offer different virtual reality activities and games . Ok, this was so fun! It's also a work out, whew! I took a few teens to celebrate a birthday and I got to join in on the fun! It'd say it's a tad pricey but also worth it. They have multiple games to chose from. I'd recommend booking before but they fit us in, we waited a little longer to play certain game. It was now for one game or any choice of game, maybe like 3 hours out. And this was on a Saturday evening, not too bad. Which gave us some time to wander and eat. All the staff was friendly and great! They give you videos after and if you're celebrating a birthday make sure to tell them they do a fun little celebration after, which was sweet and fun! Sandbox VR was my first VR experience ever and it was definitely such a cool and unique activity to do. As someone who played a lot of video games in my childhood, the immersive experience was definitely fascinating (and scary!). My friends and I did the Deadwood Valley (zombies) game mode and I had a lot of fun. The game itself can be pretty challenging so there are times when your movement is crucial - meaning that the VR experience truly felt very immersive and engaging. We booked this place ahead of time, but I don't think they receive that many customers to the point where you cannot find any available slots. We signed waivers in the beginning and were taken to the first floor to set up our gear. We also had to come up with a team name (prepare ahead of time!). We each picked our weapons (machine guns, pistols, etc). The entire experience was about 30 minutes which seemed short, but I think it's just the right amount of time since it can be tiring. Despite having great customer service and an overall fun experience, the 3-star rating is due to the fact that some of the weapons can be faulty, which can cause delays. There are also a few technical issues with the VR graphics where your characters may look like they're not positioned well (some characters appear to be sliding on the floor). I think the reason was that even a very small white/neon color on your clothing can cause distortion. We were not given a warning about this so just try to avoid wearing any white/neon colors (even small designs on shoes). read more

I booked Sandbox VR for birthday and it was such a unique experience. I made a reservation days in advance but I would recommend at least 1-2 days before. I booked for a party of two and unfortunately had some young kids join us. To be fair, on the website there is an option to pay a premium price to guarantee a room alone. It felt a bit weird playing with strangers, especially with the age difference, but it didn't ruin the experience. I just wished the rooms were adult-only. We entered and the place was super clean and modern. They have you check in and sign a waiver before waiting for your room. We took an escalator downstairs and there were futuristic wristbands and ankle bands waiting for us. We chose our names, colors, weapons, and team name. I will note the staff was not friendly at all. While they did their job, there was no enthusiasm to add to the experience. The instructions at time were also vague so I do wish they added to that. The game itself was super fun. We got a heavy backpack, VR headset, headphones, and guns. The room wasn't big enough to run around in but it was big enough for some movement. We played the new zombie game and it was scary but interactive. I would recommend this to larger parties, perhaps for birthdays or team building experiences. read more

Yesterday, we had a lot of fun playing Squid Games VR. It didn't feel like 1 hour probably because we were having too much fun. Although Deadwood Valley was fun, this game was much better. Unlike the previous headsets used last year at the San Ramon location, the ones they have now are more glasses-friendly, so those wearing glasses don't have to swap out their glasses for a pair of lenses that are approximate to their prescription. However, my friend said it felt uncomfortable wearing her glasses inside her headset. If you enjoyed watching Squid Games, then I highly recommend that you play Squid Games VR. Cost: $60 per person Parking: Free parking doesn't exist around here, so it's best to take public transit. read more

Reserved a 230pm spot on the same day during Labor Day (Monday). Got there 10 mins before 230 and waited til it was our turn around 2:36pm. Played the new game Deadwood Valley for the first time and it was a lot of fun! It wasn't that scary but it got me screaming anyway. If you die, don't worry, you can get revived by a partner. If you both die, you will both come back to life together. Rated 4 stars for a few reasons: - my headphones kept on going in and out on my left side, so it was hard to hear sometimes. - youre restricted to be in a box and barely could move. It wasn't that interactive like The Void, where you can walk to different rooms. - if the zombies get close to you, they were blinking a bit so it was hard to shoot them since one second they're there and another, they're gone, and then back again. - great service - accessible location - air conditioned - variety of games It was overall great. I've always walked by Sandbox VR on Market street and finally stopped in to try it out! We had a reservation, so we checked in on the iPads and waited for our turn. They have a strict 5 min grace period, so definitely try to allocate time so you can show up early. We played their Seekers of the Shard game. Once you check in, you can pick a team name and choose a character. They'll then show you how to put on the hand and leg sensors as well as the headset, vest and weapon. Following that, you'll go through a tutorial of how to use your weapons and how to revive team members. It was a quick tutorial, but easy to pick up. Throughout our gameplay, our headsets were sliding a bit, so it wasn't 100% comfortable. However, I think that's expected for these VR headsets. There also was sometimes a bit of a lag in the game, but nothing that seriously took away from the experience. The VR game is incredibly immersive and you really felt as though you're living in it. Once you finish your game, you can watch some videos of your experience (they also send these to you to keep forever). This was hilarious for us to rewatch what we were like during the game. Overall, I loved the experience and we had so much fun playing the game. Can't wait to come back with friends next time! read more

We really had a great time. We saw some promo on TikTok and made the appointment. From outside, you wouldn't know what this place is, which means they need to do something for marketing. I walked by here several times before I saw the TikTok promo and had no idea what is inside. Anyway, we came in, signed the waiver and was taken downstairs. It's a different world downstairs. It's dark, secretive, and so cool. The person who took us was not so welcoming, but was patient explaining things and rules to us. The game was fun. We chose Amber Sky. The mission was to deliver a box. It's not easy at all, but the competition was not the point. My favorite part was the video they generated afterwards. We had some teens in town and thought this would be a fun place to take them. I had been here once before for my husband's birthday. The location is in the nice upscale part of town with all the museums. Best to take public transit, although if you park at night you can probably find street parking if you read the signs carefully. We arrived 30 min early and all the doors were locked. I knocked on the door a few times and called the location's phone number...was about to give up and just grab an appetizer next door when someone let us in. Everyone has to fill out waivers on the kiosks. Then you head downstairs where the restrooms are and the equipment set up area for the VR sensors. After a quick demonstration on how to put your gear on and selecting your character you're playing, you head into the room where they equip you with the helmet and vests. We did the "Seekers of the Shard: Dragonfire" - which is the latest game. It was pretty cool - I love the ability to have choices in-game. The monsters being right in my face in the VR though makes me wonder if I wouldn't like living in my video games... Everyone was super sweaty after the game - I sure hope they sanitize the equipment... I recall we used to have a debrief and replay as you're gearing down...but apparently all the tv screens are broken? I mean I'm usually very forgiving of most things but when you're paying $55/person....I kind of expect a premium experience. I'm a bit frustrated that the price went up significantly from 3 years ago, and there was also an increase for the summer hot season. Also, the gift credit if you cancel is not applicable to other locations. I think it's a fun experience but definitely a special occasion as it is too cost prohibitive otherwise. read more

The hardest part is putting on all the gear but staff will be there to help, if needed. I'm so glad we tried the Squid Games experience. It was so much fun. I only wish it was longer than 30 min. Sandbox VR is a high-tech blast for the entire family. We were a group of six of mixed ages, and everyone loved it. We played the Squid Games, and although most of us had not played VR games in the past, we all got the hang of it super quickly. Outside the room, you gear up with devices on your wrists and ankles and pick your avatar. Then, you head into the room where you will compete. You put on a vest, headphones, a mic, and the VR headset. You are now fully ready to do battle. It's very cool to be immersed in a 360-degree virtual environment. Just like the Squid Games, everyone has a numbered suit, and there are guards or watchers in pink. You compete in a range of virtual challenges. You'll need to collect things and dodge shapes. You'll even need to cross a bridge where some of the tiles break when you step on them. Don't worry; although it feels super weird to fall, you won't hurt yourself, and you get revived so that you can reenter the game within a few seconds. There's a virtual scoreboard so you can keep track of how you are doing and talk some smack to your fellow contestants throughout the game. I think the game lasts 20-25 minutes. It may not feel like a long time, but it feels plenty long in the virtual world. Once the game is over, you head to the lobby, where you get to see virtual game highlights and real-world footage of everyone moving around with the headsets on looking pretty foolish. I came here for one of my friend's birthdays at around 11pm at night. I had high expectations given how gorgeous the building is, but it was really just an average experience. The quality of the graphics and the gameplay is mediocre, and we had sooo many technical issues. It took the group of 5 of us nearly 40 minutes to actually get set up and in game, and we still had to stop every 5 minutes because someone's pack was low battery. Also, not sure if it was because it was the end of the day or what, but some of the vests straight up smelled HORRIBLE with body odor and sweat. They do not sanitize these things between guests and it's actually disgusting. They are heavy, uncomfortable, and hot, and people sweat so much and it just gets all over everything *shudder*. We did the Deadwood Mansion zombie one, and I expected to need to move and run around more but you really didn't need to. It wasn't as interactive as I had expected. If you've never used a VR headset, this might be a fun experience. But if you have, I would pass on this as the quality is the same as the ones you can do at home and you don't need all the extra gear. I will say that the weapons are cool though. read more

I'm a pacificist. My teen son is not. So for his birthday in June, he asked to go to Sandbox VR and virtually kill things with his friends and dad. The game (the Dragon Seeker) was all glitchy. Why five stars you then may wonder. Well, shortly after the game while the boys were devouring pizza, someone from Sandbox VR called, apologized for all the glitches, and said that everyone could play a different game using the same credit. And so they did. Over the weekend, the boys played the Amber alien one and loved it. No glitches, just a bunch of fun. Well, if you like shooting at things. And they do. I don't. Pan, the manager, was super helpful when I went to ask about using the credit from the last game. There was a note under my email address, and ta da, we didn't have to pay again. And I forgot the guy who was working there on Sunday when they went into play, but he was great. And also patient. One of the boys was a little late, and he made it work. Thank you, Sandbox. I had a very, very happy teen. Maybe for Christmas they'll do the Squid Games one. (Oh and it's not cheap, but what is these days.) read more

This was my first time at a VR gaming place and I was really excited to try it! I've never done anything like it before and was pretty impressed with the technology. When you walk in, they ask for your reservations and you sign in. If you don't have a argue group of people, they will group you with others and you form a team! You'll make a team name and they'll walk you to the escalators where you'll descend down to the main floor. There, a worker will explain how things work and how to strap on the hands and feet trackers. Basically they're like these Velcro on bands with protruding sticks with little balls at the end--fairly simple to put on! You'll have a little cubby to put all your belongings and jackets in. I suggest wearing light because it gets so hot in there due to the headgear that there's like 5 big fans on the walls pointed at you! Once you're in the game room, the workers will also help you with putting on all the gear you need which include the vest, headgear, and hand you the fake gun. The whole experience was really enjoyable and different. I was impressed by how well the equipment was able to track my movements and body. We chose the zombie mansion game to play and it was so exhilarating! Not scary at all but there are a few jump scares here and there for fun! At the end, they'll help you take off the gear and you'll get to see a little recap video of your game and your stats as a player :) Really recommend coming here with your friends or on a date! What a fun experience!! Me and my partner did the hotel zombie VR experience and it was scary and fun. Be careful to not wear too heavy of clothes because this game will get you sweating from the nonstop action of shooting the zombies. First - the concept is FANTASTIC!! Playing the game is FANTASTIC!! But the execution was not good, actually very poor. Much of the gear had to be debugged. The game was paused several times due to issues. Guns didn't work. Mid-way through my zombie game, the Enterprise starship loaded onto my headset. There were just so many glitches that interfered with the immersive experience. Once they get everything working correctly, then I would really recommend this experience. read more

This was such a great experience and the staff was so friendly! I found out about Sandbox through a Facebook ad and I'm so happy I looked into it. I was trying to find activities for a team offsite for 22 people. I contacted Sandbox and it was super easy. They really tried to accommodate my group and everything was pretty seamless after that. The day of, we got in right away, they helped us with our games and I was able to pick Deadwood Mansion, which is what I wanted because I love anything zombie! Each game holds up to 6 people and I believe they have 3 rooms. Each game is about 30 minutes and after, you get to watch a mini clip of your game. It was so much fun. read more

Very shady and unethical business practice. I purchased $300 worth of gift card during the black friday sales. I then called this location asking if I could apply the gift card for my upcoming reservation and the staff told me no. I then asked if I could cancel the reservation and book one with gift card myself, and the staff told me if I do that they will manually cancel my reservation just because it was booked before black friday. I mentioned to the staff that there wasn't anywhere in the promo that mentioned customers cannot use the gift card to pay for their existing reservation, and that it literally says "purchased gift vouchers can be sued anytime and do not expire", which he still didn't budge. It's quite a shame because I've been to this place many times in the past and I had a blast each time. I am very disappointed how they've decided to screw over their customers for such a petty reason. read more
