We came here for a friend's birthday as a group of 7 and played with a bunch of other people for a grand total of 35 players. The place is 3 floors with several vantage points to shoot other players as well as mirrors. I like the glow in the dark aesthetic and it's fun to practice your aim. After, they announce the top 3 players and each person gets a detailed sheet with your stats, who you shot the most and who tagged you the most. Wow first time playing laser tag and it did bring the kid back to me again. But you have to watch out the young kids will be more faster and quicker than the adults, especially when you play the game twice, individuals build up their strategies. I wasn't able to get my score card in round one because I didn't know how it worked. You are assigned a number and you are supposed to pick the correct vest with your game name on it. Many moons ago I did laser tag in SF and I think it was called Qzar and I remember when I got shot at, the orange vest would vibrate and it was like being electrocuted. As you can tell I wasn't very good, but I had fun back then. Thank goodness this place didn't electrocute me. Ha! Ha! It was fun. Good stress relief and great way to spend a birthday celebration where everyone had fun, learn something new and we all wrote a lovely birthday card question prompt to the birthday girl and she appreciated it. Finally I got my score card I was pretty proud of my score. I didn't score last and was happy. Time to celebrate with a trip to In n Out burger ! Oh yeah! Fun birthday party for my daughter here earlier this week. Birthday package includes 10 people, two 20 minute sessions with a break to cool down. You wear a receiver vest that is programmed specifically for your profile that monitors your performance. There is a scoreboard after each session to rank who had the most shots. You receive an individual performance scorecard with % shots/hit ratio, and other statistics. The system that records the vest data is not reliable. Some aren't recording data and others don't record correctly. The star off is for the problematic software interface. All in all the software glitch doesn't detract from the fun experience but if you or your kids are competitive, a little frustration occurs when you don't have the data from your second session to see if you improved or not. For Reference, my daughter is in her mid teen years. We also saw there were birthdays for younger kids during our sessions. read more

Never knew this place existed in San Carlos! Right behind REI (and there is plenty of parking). Came here with a group of adult friends (who said this place was only for kids???). The venue is HUGE! We had a group of 25+ and there was plenty of space to explore/ hide to shoot other players. We paid for 2 round of games. One being a free for all and the other being a team (color). The round last about 15 ish minutes and you'll hear a 5 minute warning to see how much time remains! -1 since there were some numbers on my vest and I realized after the first game that it showed your current ranking amongst the other players. There was also another number but I wasn't sure what I meant. Also sucked during the team game one of my friend's vest didn't work at all and the worker couldn't really provide another vest to have his points count in the team game. This place makes bday parties easy Peasy! The staff are super friendly and answers questions via calls or emails. The main menu is pizza which you have to order through them from NY pizza which is nice bc you don't need to worry about picking up or delivery, or ordering directly from them. You can bring your own drinks, cake, chips, etc. They provide plates, utensils and do the clean up! We got to have the 2nd round to our group so it was Everyman for themselves! I went to LaserMaxx for the first time last month. Who knew that there was a laser tag place in the Bay Area! Upon arrival, you can tell that it's mostly kids who come here after school. But by the time it hit 8PM, most of the people at the laser tag place ended up being adults. There's someone who works there that explains the rules to you before you enter the playing area. Pretty simple rules like don't run, don't follow someone, no profanity, etc. They end up giving you a piece of paper at the end of the round to show you how many times you got hit and how many people you hit. It's a cool way to be competitive with your friends. Some downsides are that it was not uncommon for them to not print out your sheet because of technical issues. You can also tell that some of the workers there definitely did not want to be there. And there is only one playing area so you really end up doing a lot of waiting when you're here. read more

Had a blast here for a birthday party! We played 2 games, each game ran 20 minutes. We were in the debriefing room for a few minutes learning how to put on the vest, use our guns, and learn the rules. The arena itself was so fun with black light and well marked guided lines on the ground. It was so fun, I can see why so many kids were there. As an adult in the game, I didn't mind the kids. But if you do then I recommend going at later times in the day to avoid them because they do get loud and a little obnoxious. After the game, you turn in your vest and you get to see how you scored against the other players. Everyone also gets a scorecard with all of your stats as a souvenir. Overall, it was a great first experience! I just wished I had a lighter layer on because it was quite the exercise and I accidentally wore a sweater in there. Also beware of the parking signs. Still plenty of parking, but need to walk farther. read more

We had my son's birthday party at Laser Maxx, and they gave my home-made cake to another party while the kids played laser tag. I found the cake 3/4 eaten in their back room (see photo). I spent hours making the cake for my son, based on his requests, using a recipe from my late father's favorite cookbook. It was very upsetting. This place is AWESOME! Our team came here for a company event, and we had an absolute blast. The map is huge and spans multiple levels high. 30 people would be able to easily fit while still being able to explore and hide. There are mirrors and grates, so if you're sneaky about it, you can get some cool shots by using those to your advantage! Goku was really fun as well and explained everything thoroughly so that we all understood how to play. My favorite part, though, is that at the end of the game, you receive a "mission debriefing" that goes through your placing, accuracy percentage, shots fired, activity, and more. I've never seen this before, and it was so much fun to compare accuracy scores and shots! Came here for a work team event and had a blast. It's very similar to your typical Lazer Tag establishment such as LazerQuest but I really like their up to date and definitely more advance guns and vest equipment. For example, before pressing the trigger to fire, you much use your other hand (that's holding onto the other end of the gun) and use your thumb to hold down a button that 1. Allows the trigger to fire , 2. Keeps the otherwise free hand to cover the sensors, 3. Shines a light in front of your gun to allow your opponent(s) to see you. This adds so much more depth to your gameplay. The workers were friendly and professional. Folks that played in our group for the first time along with the veterans both had fun. This place just opened and I'm sure they'll do fine. Perhaps if they could introduce specials and/or discounted game plays for slow days/hours, that'd be great. read more

We held my son's 12th birthday party here. We opted not to rent a party room, just two games of laser tag, which is a good call for older kids I think. The kids had a great time playing in the laser tag matches, and the staff were all really helpful and friendly. They have a great setup, the game arena is really big and mazelike, with good construction and lighting. I like the live leaderboard in the lobby too, so we parents can watch the scores. They also have a small video arcade, so we loaded a couple of prepaid swipe cards and the kids had fun playing those games too. Really fun birthday experience, and a really good value too. We arrived at 12 noon and it was a good decision because there were no people yet, the second and third missions were played in a crowd, which was uncomfortable. We were given a room for the party. While the kids were playing, the parents were relaxing there. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Everything went well, the only thing I would recommend is to add more slot machines. the game plays are pretty straight forward...single mission $12.99, two for $23.99 and three for $31.99....birthday packages available for $749.99 for 2 missions for 30 people with 1 hour of party room use or $649.99 without a party room...arriving for a birthday party and parking is a little confusing with so many parking restrictions for lasermaxx...the party rooms are large enough to fit 30 comfortably...party for1st graders and the kids were excited....the gear is large meaning adult size, so it is really bulky for little kids...it's also fairly heavy...teams divided to blue and red after checking in at the front desk...everybody given code names...entering the preparation room to gear up...filled with light fake smoke and entire structure is designed like a maze that goes up and down with dead ends and openings all around...really is a maze, so easy to get lost or lose sense of direction...the game play is exciting and fun...laser blasters are fairly accurate and you can see the beam of light going through the fake smoke...15 minutes seems to last forever...in the end, top players listed on the screen outside...everybody given a printout of their stats for the mission...some arcade games near the entrance to play when not playing a mission... read more

The laser tag arena itself is big, multi-layered, dark, fog-machined, and neon-detailed like all good laser tag places should be. Indoors definitely smells a little weird though. But the gameplay itself was pure chaos and not very fun. I'm sure they have other game modes, but all 3 of ours were just free for all -- no teams, no goals, no bases, nothing else to do but shoot every little kid that comes underfoot. I definitely have more fun at other locations that have more structure to their games. The workers were not good at communicating the rules consistently (only on the 3rd of our 3 games did the worker actually give instructions on how to use the phaser and game rules). It was fine in the end, but not as good of an experience as I'd come to expect from some other places. read more

LaserMaxx provides a terrific experience with a much more exciting layout than the now defunct LaserQuest or QZAR. The three levels allow for a lot more strategy, sniping and camping. Our whole family, from a fearful 8 year old to a babysitting grandpa had a ton of fun every time. We also appreciated how helpful the manager was when we screwed up our reservations for a visit and didn't have enough slots for the kids we brought. I brought 12 fifth-graders here on a Thursday afternooon for my son's birthday party--by myself (with some carpool help). James and the other staff were SO helpful and made what could have been an overwhelming afternoon for me much more calm. I didn't feel stressed at all. James also brought great energy to the games and giving awards, and directed and engaged the "energetic" boys with ease. My middle-school daughter and her friend also attended, and James easily changed his approach when interacting with them in a way that made them feel comfortable and engaged. (Getting a middle school girl to giggle is a FEAT--great job, James). I went back and forth about reserving a party room as I've done group playdates in the past at LaserMaxx. I ended up doing it and it was worth the extra money. The pizza was REALLY good. We live about 30 minutes away, so am not familiar with NY Pizza, but it was tasty. We ordered a Coldstone Creamery ice cream cake (an add on for the party room), and it was also really good. Normally, I donate leftovers to the staff, but this time brought everything home. The staff was really helpful with getting things set up as well--plates, utensils, cutting knife, candles, etc. were all included. I did not upgrade to a party host because we were there on a Thursday, but if I held it on a weekend I probably would. Feels like home. I used to come here 2-3 times a week when this place was called Laser Quest. The kept the same arena and set up but have changed the laser guns and vest. I'm so thankful this place has opened up. My friends and I were ranked 1-7 on this arenas players (of course with the old company) so I'm excited that we can try to reclaim our spots. We did a kids birthday party here and they had a blast! The staff - Phil, Sunshine, Hope and everyone else was wonderful and so accommodating.
