During my tour of Alameda's dining scene, I snapped some photos of Bad Barista's offerings for Restaurant Week and these are the coolest dishes I saw. They make sweeter drinks that are almost dessert-like coffee with cream and fruity flavors. Their colorful, fun drinks really stand out, and they also do sandwiches and plenty of other fun food additions.

My co-worker friend arranged a coffee meetup with us four former co-workers that resided in Alameda. It was cool since I haven't seen two of them is a while. He arranged for us to meet up at 9am on a Thursday at Bad Barista, his favorite local coffee shop located at the Encinal Shopping Center, a small neighborhood strip mall. When I arrived, I remember this being the former Café Aulait. Checking out the menu board, offering consists of coffee drinks, teas, frappes, smoothies, shushes and breakfast sandwiches and bagels, square muffins and croissants. I got a large drip and was hoping their offerings would including pastries, but they only had bagels and the square muffins as they were out of croissants. They have a quaint patio in the back for you to enjoy your drinks and food. It was quiet and we were able to catch-up with our coffees. Worker was friendly. No restroom on the premises as it is located across at the Encinal Market Good local coffee shop with a quaint patio. Hope they expand their offering to include breakfast pastries options.

Pulled up for groceries near Encinal market & noticed this adorable sign outside- went inside for a cappuccino & it was on point! Worth a return visit for sure.

There is a constantly rotating series of staff, so maybe it is inexperience? However, this last visit is probably the last time I will visit. With their lunches, they offer a soup and then choice of a side. I never understand why the soup comes out with the sandwich or even after the sandwich is delivered. To me soup is always a starter. They say it is being made fresh in the back, which I don't understand how you make a cup of soup fresh every time. Also, in the past, I've always ordered an iced tea which came with free refills. That's common at most restaurants. However, this time I was charged $3.50 each for two iced teas. I questioned it and the server said that it was correct. I checked the menu to see if I'd overlook something, but there is no mention about a no refills policy. An inconsistency for sure.

I had a day planned that included cleaning the garage, so I figured a big breakfast would be good. I walked in just before 9am, and the place was empty. A waitress greeted me and told me to sit anywhere. It's actually hard to pick a table when the place is empty. Cape 7 has a fairly large dining room. It used to be a Sizzler Restaurant. Before Cape 7, it was "Shell Shock." Cape 7 never changed the Shell Shock decor, so it has a nautical theme. A pirate stands guard by the restrooms. So I sat at a booth by the window. I sat back and the bench seat was broken. A gentleman raced over and switched the bench seats. Wow, you have to be careful when you sit down at Cape 7. I ordered a Denver Omelette w/ hash browns, a side of Pancakes, and Coffee. It took about 10-min for my food to come. By 9am more customers came in. After my food arrived, I didn't see a waitress or waiter for 20-mins. Then the owner arrived, and a waitress checked on my table every 5 mins. The Denver Omelette was made with 4 eggs. The serving size was pretty large. The two pancakes were a bit dry. I needed more butter and syrup. Instead, I used alot of jams (that were on the table). The food was okay, I might come back for breakfast again. Off street parking lot in back.

Was really hoping for a better experience. Wait time = Reasonable Customer service and dining experience = Poor/unsatisfactory. Unfriendly and frazzled server complained how busy it was and refused to do more to assist us -- didn't even try. Server looked annoyed with an inquiry and got a manager for help -- we didn't even ask for a manager. I hope the owner invests in these servers and gives them an opportunity to compete the ServSafe course. Or maybe just re-training them on food service. Food = Very disappointing, unsatisfactory and was expecting more considering the pictures on their IG looked pretty good. The food was not hot (I'm pretty sure they were below 140 degrees). Everything was over salted. Bread and fries were soggy. Took awhile for food and drinks to come out. The beignets, which we came for, were a total let down! Ambiance = Okay, minus the frustrated and stressed out servers. Decor was nice.

Between the inside seats and the outdoor bench seating, there's plenty of space for a lot of people and when the weather is nice, it's even better. The pastries display was absolutely amazing. Not just their bread offerings, but also their croissants and bombolinis, my gosh it's hard not to throw caution into the wind and order a little of everything. I opted for the matcha croissant, blackberry cream cheese danish, passionfruit bombolini, and vanilla bombolini, and all were amazing and not too sweet. The topper was the ube latte that I got along with everything. Overall, a great pit stop if you're in the area or if you just want to come here because of this place. I love this area of Alameda, populated with so many fun breweries and family-friendly spaces. This was our first time at this spot and we noticed a sign (see below) for the best English muffins in the Bay Area so we had to grab one toasted with butter. Would love to try it as a brekky sandwich, but we didn't want to ruin our appetites for festival food lunch..the brekky menu looked amazing including biscuits & gravy, churro French toast sticks, lemon zest French toast, brekky pizza, and the pork & jam (crispy pulled pork, house made blackberry jam, fried egg, honey-buttermilk biscuit with country fried taters...sounds delish!!) They also have a beautiful selection of baked goods, pretzels, packaged breads to-go, lunch AND dinner options including soups, salads, pizzas, kiddo menu, sandwiches, sliders, and more. I had no idea! Service was quick, hours kickoff at 7:30a, and there's indoor/outdoor seating. Plenty of parking outside or across the street if needed. Can't wait to come back soon!

I ordered the lunch combo with a Caesar salad and steak sandwich, but what I received was definitely not what I would consider a steak sandwich. The meat appeared to be ground or very finely minced--more like picadillo than steak. Had I known that, I would not have ordered it. The salad was such a sad salad and truly not a Caesar by any means. We also ordered the turkey club, which surprisingly didn't have bacon. Since bacon is typically one of the main ingredients in a turkey club, that was another disappointment--and overall, the sandwich just wasn't good.
