    Pizza to go
    Steve D.

1400 Webster St Alameda, CA 94501 ( Cross St- Central Ave) It was Sunday, March 23, and the end of Alameda's Restaurant Week. I decided to drop by and grab a pizza to go, and give this place a second chance. I ordered the "The Alameata" pizza. I was told it's about a medium pizza, enough for 2-3 people. OMG! Pizza the way I like it! The Alameata Pizza is a balanced mix of pepperoni, sausage, and bacon with a thick blanket the cheese. The kind of melted cheese that streams off the pie. Beautiful strands of melted hot cheese. Thick and gooey. When you pull off a slice, hardly anything falls off. All the flavors are just right. The Alameata is a medium pizza, and it's about 14-15" wide. I asked for original crust. It was soft, and lightly crispy. I will be back! The other reviews are correct, the food is 5-stars here. "1400 Bar & Grill" is located in the 146 year old historic Croll Building.

    Cucumber jalapeño margarita

Came here on a weekday evening and was quite surprised at how busy it was. Had heard really good things, so wanted to try for myself. Food and Drinks: - Cucumber Jalapeño Margarita: I've had plenty of cucumber jalapeño margaritas that have been delicious - refreshing with a kick of spice. This drink tasted like jalapeño juice and tequila only. It wasn't refreshing at all and it was honestly quite a bad drink. I could only have 2 sips before I gave up. You can also see the one of us got cucumbers in our margarita and one did not. The drinks are also different colors. - French fries: these looked and tasted like they sat in the deep fryer for at least 5 minutes past when they should have been taken out. They were a dark brown and were very crispy. If you're looking for a strong and cheap drink, I can see the appeal to this establishment. Ambiance was like a sorts bar as there was a football game on and people at the bar watching. Not crazy loud, but still pretty loud. There are tables for larger groups and smaller groups.

I have seen this place for decades and never once thought of going in. I was with friends and we were walking around so decided to give it a go. None of us have ever been inside. We were very pleased. Clean, spacious and ample selection of food. The span fries were killer but the Wings were a bit dry, sliders were very flavorful. I had an old Fashioned it Was just OK nothing memorable. Service was Awesome As Was the bartender. This was a neighborhood bar that was inviting with nice people Working there. Give it a go.

The chicken burger I had was excellent! Fry's were perfect, I also had a fresh salad was great! The service we had was great fast and very friendly. The ambiance was like no other really cool sports memorabilia and pictures also had the game on. A must check out if you haven't been! Also a really chill outside area

The food deserves 5 stars but the service maybe 3 stars. I would've loved to give this restaurant five stars but the service/waitress we had did not pay much attention to our table. We had to get up a few times to go get more napkins and silverware and so did the couple next to us. We were going to sit outside on the patio, but unfortunately, no staff came out to take our order so we ended up going inside to eat. We ordered the spam fries and pulled pork sliders for appetizers. The spam fries were really good and the pulled pork sliders were good as well. We also ordered the Alameata pizza, it was good, crunchy crust, and the right amount of toppings. I did order two drinks from the bar. Really enjoyed the 1400 colada. My second drink was the Plank Tai and this drink was strong & good. My husband asked for a Coke soda and got a Pepsi instead. They carry Pepsi products instead of Coke. We will definitely try this place again and hopefully the service improves. I would love to enjoy an evening out on the patio and have a few drinks and some appetizers next time. Street parking around the restaurants and they do have meters active during the day. Unless you can find a parking in a nearby parking lot.

I went to a lot of restaurants in Alameda and shot a couple of 1400's specials for Alameda Restaurant Week. I loved the warmth and classic atmosphere, and these are the coolest dishes I saw.

We came into town with a group of 12 without dinner plans. Found 1400 Bar &Grill and we were so happy we did. Not only did they accommodate our group last minute, but the food and service were fabulous! I am horrible with names or I would give a shout out to our waitress. I would highly recommend you include 1400 Bar &Grill when you are in the neighborhood.

We stopped by this cozy local bar/grill for Brunch on a Sunday. Easy street parking if you come before 11am, though I can definitely see that the parking situation can be difficult as it gets closer to lunch. We were greeted promptly by the waitress and seated quickly. I do think there may be a bit of an understaffing issue, as our waitress was basically taking orders for the whole restaurant. Waving the waitress down to take our order was a bit of a challenge. With that being said, You can clearly see that this was a local watering hole that is loved by the community as everyone that walked in was on a first name basis with the staff. As for the food, it was hot and delicious. We had the Greek Veggie omelette, shrimp and grits, and the spam fries. Their shrimp and grits was fantastic, with the grits being made with cheddar cheese and jalapeños, the grits can also be ordered on their own as a vegetarian side. The spam fries were salty, savory, and crunchy, worth trying once, though it reminded me of County Fair food. Overall would recommend for the food and atmosphere but understand that service may be a bit slow if the restaurant is busy.

Ask the Community - 1400 Bar & Grill

    Do they allow dogs?

Dogs are welcome on the patio. It's great to see all the pups and their owners :)

    Do they sell by slice?

I am pretty sure they do, but not all day. I think slices start at 4pm or something like that. Hope that helps!

Review is for the London Bus Burger, Louie Louie (soft-shelled crab) and onion rings! The Bureau 510 gets their burgers right: lightly seasoned, not overly handled so you can feel the wonderful texture along with some major juiciness. Also a big plus is their meat-to-bun ratio so you get a nice bite of burger with the sturdy yet soft bun. The Louie Louie looked amazing. My 2 friends ordered that and devoured. It was lightly battered, not greasy and a nice size. Onion rings were house-made and equally light with a beer batter. Delicious! Staff very welcoming, friendly and checked on us a couple of times. Menu has plenty of options to choose from. The Bureau 510 did a great job (has me craving more!) this visit so will definitely return to try items like the fish and chips, clam chowder and Chef Specials. Service was quiet but attentive, which made the whole experience feel effortless. The food was the real star. We started with the Brussels sprouts (light, crispy, and perfectly cooked), calamari (well‑seasoned and not heavy at all), and warm biscuits with whipped honey butter--so good. The clam chowder stole the show for us: poured tableside, rich but not heavy, and full of flavor. For entrées, the seafood pasta was fantastic, the lobster rigatoni was delicious (just wished for a bit more lobster), the ribeye was cooked perfectly, and the lamb--while tasty--could've used a touch more time. Overall, this place is an easy 5 stars. Beautiful atmosphere, great service, and memorable food. I'll definitely be back to try the dishes we couldn't get to.

I was surprised that I didn't have to hold the reservations with a credit card which was nice. We arrived a few minutes early and waited just a few minutes before our table was ready. As soon as we sat down the hostess asked if we needed any waters. Our waiter Jacob also came around right away to see if we wanted to order any drinks, we ordered the old fashioned, the Mai tai special, and margarita. Drinks came back pretty quick which was good. All the drinks tasted pretty good. For starters we ordered the calamari for the table, fruit salad, clam chowder, and a wedge salad. The calamari came out first, it was cooked perfect, had good flavor to it, the Brussel sprouts mixed with it was tasty, and the lemon sauce that came with it was refreshing. The clam chowder was excellent but it was more like a cup than a bowl. The wedge salad was okay, I've never had eggs in my wedge before, and it could use some better bacon bits or whatever it was for the bits of meat. The fruit salad was great. For our entrees we ordered the Ribeye, the Lamb chops, the Pork chop, the New York or Sirloin, and the Duck Breast. The good thing is that all of the entrees came with sides versus a la cart. The entrees came out after a while which wasn't too bad. It seemed like they only had one waiter taking orders for all the tables. Ribeye, Lamb Chops, Pork Chop Sirloin, and the Duck Breast were cooked perfect, med rare, and great flavor on all the meats. The ribeye was a little tough which was weird since it was cooked perfect., so I don't why that was. All the sides (cream spinach, mashed potatoes, corn, brussel sprouts) were very good. For dessert we shared the Strawberry Shortcake and the Churros. Two great desserts, fluffy bread, tasty strawberries, the sauce was perfect, the churros came out hot, nice crunch to them, and the flavor was great. Overall, a great place to have dinner. The restaurant has plenty of seating. We go all around the bay area and I believe prices are pretty high for drinks, soups, salads, and desserts. We didn't have any Italian food but looking at the menu, they could be just a tad high as well. Our waiter Jacob did a great job.

For the event, we had reserved labels on our tables. The waiter took drink orders, then food orders. I came late and requested to be the last one to place a food and drink order because I did not want to hold the others up. The waiter forgot about me. He never returned. Fortunately, a waitress was bringing something over to a table buddy of mine and I was able to place my order with her. However, I ordered 2 drinks. One was supposed to come immediately after ordering and the other with my food. The waitress said she was going to try to plan the one with my food so it came out together. She forgot about my 1st drink until reminded almost 20 mins later. I ordered my food which was $17.50 sliders with a substitute of fries $2.. and add bacon $2. When my food came, it came with some sort of greens (Arugula salad..I think) and a side of fries. I don't understand why I got salad because I substituted it for fries. My fries came out first, which made no sense because I ordered my food together. However, upon tasting the fries.. they were cold in some parts..smh. I sent them back for hot fries. The sliders seemed overcooked because they were dry. I'm used to sliders being juicy and soft. My sliders were hard...smh. I did not bother to send them back because I was with many people and I really did not feel like going through the motions tonight..as I normally would have of my food order is just wrong. When the bill came, I noticed that they charged me $9 for a large fries. If it was only +2 to substitute... why did I get charge that? I went on and paid it without complaints. There were at least 4 ppl who ordered food before me and they still did not get their food and it was like an hour passing. I had 2 glasses of wine (Malbec & Blanc). Both were good. I loved the fact that they had karaoke. However, I disliked the fact that people who had gone once still went a 2nd time although there were plenty of people who still had not gone a 1st time. I think this place is chill. They need to do better with accomodating larger parties in both a timely manner and effectively ensuring food is correct, hot and cooked to perfection. I think they probably do best with a table of 4 or 5 ppl. Lastly, it was super hot in here. Yes there are ceiling fans. However, it seems that they have no central air whatsoever. That's ridiculous. Oh BTW.. no waiter ever came back to our table to ask if we wanted to order anything more. They also did not come over to ask if the food was good either. Our finshed plates say in front of us from the time we got it until almost 11pm. I would say that my table received food by 8:30ish.
