If you want a chill place to catch up with people, read in a beautiful setting , enjoy some good (a little expensive) food. 8/10 caprese sandwich. They use heirloom tomatoes and a delicious balsamic vinaigrette. Comes with a salad that pairs nicely with the sandwich. 7/10 lavender mint latte. Not bad at all. Julie's has been a community staple in Alameda for years. I met up with a friend for lunch today for an enjoyable and tasty light meal of their veggie quiche (comes with a small side of mixed greens tossed in vinaigrette) and a matcha latte drink. My friend had their broccoli/cheese soup of the day, a modified entree salad with an added avocado, and their baked egg with veggies inside (which also contains cheese btw, though it's not listed on their menu). Atmosphere is cozy and can sometimes get a bit loud inside the front, yet it is more spacious and quiet in their back garden. There's usually a healthy crowd and they close at 4pm. read more

Cute local coffee shop with a nice garden outside, as well as a parklet out front on Park St. Great for people-watching. The interior is cute but feels a bit claustrophobic and hot, so I've always opted to sit outside. They have a nice selection of loose-leaf teas, as well as pretty colorful teapots for purchase. The coffee is good, and the food is pretty good as well. On our most recent visit, I had the salmon toast with avocado, and RB had the vegetarian quiche, both tasty. I appreciate that they have vegan options. Unfortunately there is a somewhat pretentious vibe, as some others have mentioned, hence the three stars. There is what I can only describe as a self-important attitude and an air of condescension that doesn't jive with me. I've returned several times hoping it was just an off day, but nope, it's a constant. Also the signs out back about an 'unplugged zone' on the weekends? Please. I'll decide how to use my time when paying to sit down for a cup of coffee, and if that means happily Yelping away on my phone, you can go ahead and respect that, thanks. How does a customer quietly using a digital device affect you? Let people be. I would say I hope they work on this vibe they project, but I know they won't, it just seems to be part of the 'eccentric' identity here. Loved this cute coffee shop! I've had Julie's on my list forever and when I was thinking of a place to get some work done in Alameda, I finally got to check it out. The garden is a lot bigger than I thought! There's so much more seating here both indoors and outdoors. Julie's has a handful of tables inside, some tables in front at the parklet, and lots of tables in back in their garden. Parking is mostly metered parking on Park Street, but if you don't mind the walk, you can also park in the neighborhoods nearby for free. Just be mindful of the hour limits. You can order from their menu of coffees, teas, baked goods, and classic cafe foods (some breakfast/lunch items) at the register. Then, take your tarot card number to your table and they'll bring it all out to you. Don't forget to bus your table after you're done! I got the iced latte for dine-in to enjoy while in the garden. The iced latte was solid - nothing fancy. But the real win here was the ambiance. Even on a Wednesday afternoon, the place was packed. Granted it was a beautiful sunny day, and this is really the perfect place to get out of the house. The wifi was strong, it wasn't too loud, and they offer plenty of shaded spots if you prefer not to be directly in the sun. They also offer private events and catering and I feel like this would be the perfect venue for a bridal shower / baby shower / tea party! read more

Went for a walk with my sister and was looking for a place to get a matcha latte. We found this spot and decided to give it a try. Multiple people greeted us and they have a wide variety of tea and drink options. I ordered a matcha latte and this was the first time where there was any topping (maybe have been nutmeg?) which I would've been okay with out. They also have a nice outdoor patio and summer hours where they are open later. It was buzzing with quite a few folks but I think you could still study or work out of there. (Yes what I photographed was my plate when it was served to me immediately) My girlfriend also received the same amount and we both chuckled at how comedic this was. I usually come for a quick bite/drink and a long time ago came to study at Julie's. When I started looking for venues, I remembered how charming this little place was! I had a great experience with hosting a semi-private event in their garden for my sister's bridal shower. I had the ultimate vision in my mind and was able to execute it perfectly with Julie's! Their garden was already such a cute space that I was able to customize. Shannon their event coordinator was very flexible in offering me options to bring my idea to life. They offered various catering options with add-ons that would surely fit any event. The great thing is they have offerings for medium-large as well as small parties as well. We hosted 27 people and had half the garden to ourselves. We still felt like we had our own space and the service was great. Amazingly, all event details were all communicated via email. And in the day of, everything was exactly as we discussed. This is definitely a testament to the organization of their staff. They had the perfect afternoon tea menu to go with our event. I'm a big fan of Julie's! I came here because my friend recommended it to me and I stop by almost any time I'm in the neighborhood. Julie's is just so cute. Lots of seating inside and outside. Also the walls are adorned by such beautiful art. I mostly order a latte and quiche when I come here but both are devine. I love that their coffee is strong but has great flavor. Their quiche is my absolute fave. The crust is very crispy and buttery. The egg and veggies are always cooked to perfection. The folks at Julie's are always super sweet and courteous. My last visit is the first time I was able to eat there and I checked out their back patio and garden. Very cute and peaceful back there. Their back garden is such a lovely spot, especially on a sunny afternoon. It's just big enough to get in a bit of people watching and just small enough to be cozy. The staff is friendly and the food and drinks are delicious. We tried the cherry and peach Panzanella "special" and the pumpkin hummus. The Panzanella, with cubed Night Heron bread marinated in a herbal vinaigrette and paired with fresh burrata cheese, local cherries and peaches, fresh basil, olive oil, and a balsamic reduction, was a bit dry (boo!), but absolutely yummy! I missed the herb vinaigrette but really loved the fresh, well-balanced flavors. The hummus, covered in Zatar and pine nuts, was also well- balanced and delicious. Portion sizes were just right. I paired my food with the Green Tea Cooler, an infusion of Japanese bancha green tea with rosemary and mint syrup. It was really refreshing, with a slightly bitter edge that kept things interesting. My friend had some kind of iced latte that was also garnished with rosemary. We finished things off with a chocolate thumbprint cookie. They had a nice selection of teas and tea and coffee accessories (pots, cups, mugs, etc...) for sale. They have inside seating and some seating out front. Julie's is a great! Perfect spot to meet with friends to catch up, co-work, or go solo to read/get work done in the backyard garden area. They have a few indoor seating spots and more seating in the front. Backyard area is phone call free-- meaning you'll get a side eye if you're making a call & for that reason, you do have the option to work upfront if you need to be on the phone or a meeting. I've used both spots. There's plenty of shade and ways to maneuver around to get a spot to sit. For bigger parties, it may be an issue on busier days but I've never had a problem. They have shade tents/umbrellas too. I have not tried any of their food except for the banana bread, which is yummy with tea. Various drinks available but I have my go-to tea: ginger lemon brew (hot or cold). Staff are great & helpful. Dogs are allowed. There is a community cat (was told is the neighbor's cat) that occasionally comes by to chill and scope out the scene. One of my go to spots & def. recommend. read more
