My daughter and I decided to give Julie's a try and we loved it so much. We ordered a matcha, chia pudding, avocado toast, a scone, and the house salad. We finished everything and the plates were licked clean. The food was so delicious and healthy with clean ingredients. The environment was welcoming and artistic with beautiful paintings on the walls. The server and cashier were very kind and welcoming to us. Julie's is the place to go for breakfast, lunch, and a very cute place to meet up with your friends and family.

Love this cute little place. Healthy food, coffee and tea, cute outdoor garden, dog friendly. I got the grain bowl with quinoa and crispy black lentils and it was delicious. Also got cappuccino with oat milk and it was great. I would totally come back and highly recommend!

Julie's has been a community staple in Alameda for years. I met up with a friend for lunch today for an enjoyable and tasty light meal of their veggie quiche (comes with a small side of mixed greens tossed in vinaigrette) and a matcha latte drink. My friend had their broccoli/cheese soup of the day, a modified entree salad with an added avocado, and their baked egg with veggies inside (which also contains cheese btw, though it's not listed on their menu). Atmosphere is cozy and can sometimes get a bit loud inside the front, yet it is more spacious and quiet in their back garden. There's usually a healthy crowd and they close at 4pm.

Cute local coffee shop with a nice garden outside, as well as a parklet out front on Park St. Great for people-watching. The interior is cute but feels a bit claustrophobic and hot, so I've always opted to sit outside. They have a nice selection of loose-leaf teas, as well as pretty colorful teapots for purchase. The coffee is good, and the food is pretty good as well. On our most recent visit, I had the salmon toast with avocado, and RB had the vegetarian quiche, both tasty. I appreciate that they have vegan options. Unfortunately there is a somewhat pretentious vibe, as some others have mentioned, hence the three stars. There is what I can only describe as a self-important attitude and an air of condescension that doesn't jive with me. I've returned several times hoping it was just an off day, but nope, it's a constant. Also the signs out back about an 'unplugged zone' on the weekends? Please. I'll decide how to use my time when paying to sit down for a cup of coffee, and if that means happily Yelping away on my phone, you can go ahead and respect that, thanks. How does a customer quietly using a digital device affect you? Let people be. I would say I hope they work on this vibe they project, but I know they won't, it just seems to be part of the 'eccentric' identity here. Fair enough, and they do seem to have a loyal following, but it's not for me.

Loved this cute coffee shop! I've had Julie's on my list forever and when I was thinking of a place to get some work done in Alameda, I finally got to check it out. The garden is a lot bigger than I thought! There's so much more seating here both indoors and outdoors. Julie's has a handful of tables inside, some tables in front at the parklet, and lots of tables in back in their garden. Parking is mostly metered parking on Park Street, but if you don't mind the walk, you can also park in the neighborhoods nearby for free. Just be mindful of the hour limits. You can order from their menu of coffees, teas, baked goods, and classic cafe foods (some breakfast/lunch items) at the register. Then, take your tarot card number to your table and they'll bring it all out to you. Don't forget to bus your table after you're done! I got the iced latte for dine-in to enjoy while in the garden. The iced latte was solid - nothing fancy. But the real win here was the ambiance. Even on a Wednesday afternoon, the place was packed. Granted it was a beautiful sunny day, and this is really the perfect place to get out of the house. The wifi was strong, it wasn't too loud, and they offer plenty of shaded spots if you prefer not to be directly in the sun. They also offer private events and catering and I feel like this would be the perfect venue for a bridal shower / baby shower / tea party!

What a lovely coffee shop! Staff is super friendly and helpful! Nice outdoor seating area. Absolutely love this spot! And if you sit out in the back patio, be sure to say hi to Baby. The cat that hangs around. She is the sweetest! They should put her on the payroll!

Good service from staff. My breakfast sandwich and iced chai latte were great. We ate in the seating outside of the coffee shop but they also have a garden patio. They also had a bathroom. There was a good amount of ppl but it didn't feel busy as there is seating inside and outside. Noticed there wasn't too much diversity in the customers, but I didn't feel any negative vibes either.

Order cards to identify where to bring your order are tarot cards, which I appreciated

Went for a walk with my sister and was looking for a place to get a matcha latte. We found this spot and decided to give it a try. Multiple people greeted us and they have a wide variety of tea and drink options. I ordered a matcha latte and this was the first time where there was any topping (maybe have been nutmeg?) which I would've been okay with out. They also have a nice outdoor patio and summer hours where they are open later. It was buzzing with quite a few folks but I think you could still study or work out of there. As we were leaving they we were preparing for an open mic (it was a Saturday).

Hosted a bridal shower here and everything was great! It was the majority of the group's first time there and everyone complimented the beautiful backyard and delicious tea party treats. Communication with Shannon was effortless and she made the process easy. Our server was super friendly and constantly checked if we needed anything. Definitely would come back again :)

We hosted a small baby shower here, and it was absolutely perfect! The garden patio is a hidden gem--lush, peaceful, and beautifully maintained. It created the ideal setting for a cozy, memorable gathering. Planning the event was easy-- Shannon was super easy to communicate with throughout the process. The staff is warm, friendly, and made sure everything ran smoothly on the day of. Whether you're stopping by for a coffee or planning a small event, Julie's is a true neighborhood treasure. Can't recommend it enough!

Are dogs allowed on the patio?

yes, I've seen good, loving dogs there often cuddled with their humans ; just once a dog was trippin' & disturbing another dog's chi & the considerate owners took him outside :-D

Do they do a "high tea" service? Trying to access their "menu" on their website doesn't call up anything. If they do it, is it regular (i.e. most days) or is it only on occasion?

https://malayatearoom.com/ Malaya Tea Room does on island enjoy

Is the garden open and do they still offer wifi?

    Yes and yes!

Do they have wifi or outlets for laptops?

I did not see outlets but they do have wifi you just have to ask for the password

Are dogs allowed in the patio?

Only if they are service dogs, as it is a food service facility. There is also a sign on the front window.

I came in around 8:30, a few tables outside had people drinking their coffees and eating breakfast. When I walked in, only one guy was waiting for his order. There was only one person working. The service was not good. I stood at the order counter for 5 minutes, I looked at the lady, she looked at me, and didn't offer a high I'll be right with you. I understand she was the only one preparing coffee and food. I'm not trying to complain about the wait, but the lack of acknowledging a customer to say it will take some time. I finally ordered an iced latte. I do think they have some creative drinks, but I know they are usually too sweet and I just opt for a plain iced latte instead. It was an ok latte, nothing amazing. They have a bulletin board for people to post their flyers or business cards. There was a card on the board that said A.W.A.R - All woke are retards. I'm sure that's not the view of the establishment. I do think they need to screen the board from time to time.

The taste is wonderful. * The person at the cash register was tremendously apologetic when I reported the main issue below. They offered me a refund, which I accepted. Props to them for being so apologetic and gracious about it. Now the disappointing stuff: * Ordering is a little confusing as inside the front door, it appears that you need to order from a kiosk. We did, but it turns out they take orders in person in the back. Ah well. * Although we got there about 1PM and they were open to 5PM, there were a lot of menu items that were already sold out. Including pretty much any baked goods. Sigh. * All the tables that seat four people had one person at them with their stuff spread all over the table. Technically not the restaurant's fault, but it was kind of annoying. We opted for the community table, which was empty. * After what felt like a considerable amount of time, they brought out the "big breakfast" that my significant other had ordered. Without comment, the bagel was replaced by a single piece of toast cut in half. We looked at each other quizzically, and I said, "I guess maybe they ran out of bagels?" Well, OK. Sigh. But where's my order of a bulgogi sandwich? I told my SO to go ahead and eat and not let the eggs get cold. * He tried the eggs, but they were kind of dry and lukewarm, like they had been dying in the window. I said, "How could they be dying in the window when mine isn't even here yet?" But there it is. * My SO had almost finished his lunch, and there was still no sign of mine. Finally I went up to the register and asked. Turns out they had never even started making mine. Um, what? Two orders come on the same ticket, and you decide to make one and not the other? * As I mentioned above, they offered to either start my order then or give me a refund. I was so disappointed and frustrated that I just took the refund. Then we walked down the street to Ole's Waffle House so I could order food and have a chance of receiving it. There, I had one of the best patty melts I can recall, and my SO enjoyed what he said was the best piece of carrot cake he ever had. Plenty of good coffee refills for half the price of the tiramisu lattes. Dandelion Kaffe was busy, but if the kitchen doesn't feel like making what you order, then what's the use?

Smoked Salmon Bagel ($9.50/4*) Nice toasty smaller bagel with all the usuals of soft lox n cream cheese, capers and red onions. Loved the compact size as it didn't put a lead weight in my gut in the AM hours. The bagel crust tho is kinda hard and brittle, almost crouton hard which I thought was strange. But the interior was indeed soft yet chewy. Iced Cold Brew ($4/4*) Pretty smooth. I only asked for a kiss of cream and it was just right. I prefer a more robust roast finish but still quite serviceable. I liked how the owner knew a lot of the customers by name. Their menu selection is wide, offering a variety of lattes, coffees, and teas, but also both pastries and small meals as well. It's no wonder why they're always popping around this time of day. Although I haven't tried many of their drinks, I can say that their matcha latte has been consistently good. Today I ordered one with almond milk and the matcha flavor is nicely balanced. Good ratio between matcha and milk. The matcha itself tastes pretty well rounded - not bitter, but also not too subtle in flavor. I probably got the matcha here like three times and it has not failed me yet. My partner really enjoys the Malasada but they can sell out pretty quickly. Previously I've tried their Ube Crinkle and their donuts and they were pretty good as well. This time, I wanted something a little less sweet and small so I tried the Bibingka which was great! I love mochi and the Bibingka had a mochi texture to it. It comes with some pineapple bits which I tend to avoid, but my desire to try something new overrode that today and thankfully, the bits were small. It's a dense little bite, but I enjoyed it! A perfect little bike treat. I don't get much interaction here with the workers since it's such a quick stop, but it's okay. I think depending on what time you go, it just gets really busy and employees are just trying to chug out the orders. We'll be back again for those delicious drinks and pastries though!
