Not a bad place to dance your tail off. I've only been here on a Wednesday and Friday and both times, there was plenty of space on the dance floor. I also like that the dance floor is barricaded by these drink holding stations, although I'm not exactly sure if I should leave my drink unattended when dancing. The back patio is a nice place to get another refreshment and cool off when you've busted your move too much. Other than the fact that it's cash only and that the video transitions are sort of rough at times, it's a fun place to let loose once in awhile. read more

Definitely not the San Francisco Badlands. This place is huge and, for the most part, pretty well maintained. The space has lots of different areas to mingle, my favorite being either the mezzanine or the back patio. They also seem to bring in some really good drag queens (many of which are Drag Race alumn) for shows often on a stage they set up on the dance floor. The shows are pretty much only on weekends though, not sure if there's a lot of notable local talent. Aside from the great space and the shows, I even like coming here when it's totally dead (usually the weeknights). The bartenders are pretty nice and the drinks are poured strong but not hand-sanitizer strong. Definitely my favorite gay club in Sacramento, beating out Faces because the crowd and bartenders tend to be better. read more

The decor is classy! The drinks are strong! Everybody gets down with the booty-shorts dancers! I brought some friends who had never been here before here for their 3 year anniversary. 9 times out of 10, I will choose Badlands over any other club in Sacramento. I've never run in to douchebags at Badlands, never had to wait in an extremely long line (maybe because we usually show up early, by 10 :P). The music is great, and lots of fun to dance to. If you're done dancing and just want to enjoy some people watching, they have a pretty large bar area to retreat to, and a nice patio with an outdoor bar as well. The bathrooms have always been clean in my experience and there are actually enough stalls...huge plus! Biggest downside is that the bar is cash only, and sometimes I find their drinks to be pretty expensive (although the downstairs bar sometimes has some special deals!). Get your liquor fix over at the Merc before meandering over to Badlands and you're bound to have a good time! read more

Yes, I suppose that I'm technically part of the "straight invasion," but I love going to Badlands to support loved ones, dance with both gay and straight friends, and feel the love and positive energy. It's a decent club connected with DEPOT where it's more quiet I've been here quite a lot for the past 2 months and it's getting to the point where I've become a regular. $1 Jello Shots are great . I don't normally have to pay for the drinks so I don't know the prices to be honest. Tips for ya : Before 9pm is normally FREE . After 9pm there will be charge either $6or $7 Sunday nights are mostly free but DEAD. read more

This place has just fantastic music. Love the videos too. It also has a pretty cool interior design. I really enjoy going here. The music is similar to what you'd hear on Energy 92.7 in San Francisco. The only bad thing (for me)--the girl to guy ratio is pretty horrible. So...in their defense, I didn't stay long. 1. I have to give props to my bartender (which I did with my tip but also now on here). He ROCKED my socks! Super sweet, Social, FUN as all Hell!! And was having a blast at work!! Bartenders make the world go round and he was doing his part. It was still early when we got there and my friends all rave about this place so I'll have to come back to see if I have a different outlook but, major stars for the bartender, and also because they have an awesome Hookay/ECig Station downstairs! Taste all you want, get a refill, get a new cartridge. It's a mini one-stop-shop! I wasn't able to go upstairs even though I was alone and it was early but, again, I'll have to go back. Parking was limited and all at a price. There was a cover. And the whole bar (VERY INCONVENIENTLY) was CASH ONLY. There's ONE dance floor, and an outdoor patio. Strong drinks, friendly bartenders (except for the older guy who sometimes sports the bandana and sneers at anyone with ovaries, f that guy), great music, cheap cover and a great environment for carefree dancing. I've been here on quiet nights where there were only six other people, packed weekend nights, and even during the cluster-f known as Second Saturday (not for the weak) and I always, always, always have a great time. I've also come with different types of people, but I usually go with my boyfriend and one of the most hetero-males I know and they love it. This is a great place to bring someone who doesn't feel particularly confident in their dancing ability because EVERYONE is getting down (and getting wasted) and when in doubt you can just follow along with the music videos. Definitely one of the least pretentious Sacramento dance clubs. Oh and there are separate men/women restrooms WITH doors on the stalls. read more

I had a pretty good time here. It is a good place to go dancing in the gay club scene. They have a back area that is outside so people can drink and smoke. The bar inside by the dance floor is huge. Badlands were one of favorite places ever since I moved to Davis. But last night one of the security guards came up to me and told me I needed to get out of the club while I was just being with my friends throughout the night. The fact that security guard was not an AAPI and was escorting me who is an Asian made me even more suspicious. But I followed regardless. When I was outside, I asked the guards what I did wrong and they deemed me as aggressive. I couldn't ask anything bc the more I said the more they consider it as an act of aggression. I was very certain that they had the wrong 'asian' but they didn't seem to care. I even tried to explain to one of the guards who was seemingly an AAPI and I felt betrayed by my own people even more. I was crying my balls out bc it was the first time I experienced such racism in my own community. I told them before I left that they should be ashamed that they made such racist mistake and left but it affected me mentally the rest of the night. read more

Great, big, clean bar with great sound system and friendly bartenders. One of the nicest clubs in Sac. So, what's my gripe? The freakin' patios are FILLED with nothing but SMOKERS!!! Please, at least designate an area for the non-smokers who ALSO want to enjoy the patio. I just appalls me to see all these young, vibrant, great people addicted to cigarettes smoking, smoking, smoking like it's so "hip," so "trendy," so "in." It's none of the above people. A more responsible owner would curtail the smoking to outside the front or somewhere that discourages this horrible habit, but I guess Badlands is not very responsible. read more

How fair is it to write a review of somewhere you went when you were "fairly drunk"? I think since the whole idea of the place is to be fairly drunk, it's fairly fair. I had fun - it was crowded and the mezzanine was closed, but the music was alright and the crowd seemed pretty nice. I didn't like the $7 or $8 cover charge (I did mention I was drunk, right?) and the drink prices were pretty out there. I think the best plan is to visit a few other spots first (the Merc, anyone?) drink a fair amount there, then pay the cover and come here for dancing. read more

I love going to gay bars to dance my butt off! I know that probably sounds odd coming from a straight chic! But two things I can be guaranteed....one is a good time and the second is not worrying about dealing with some drooling, drunk tool trying to get laid not taking a hint! This place has an awesome energy for dancing and the bar staff are friendly and fun! The only thing I think Faces has over them is variety in music. Between the two spots, you are sure to have a great time shaking a tail feather. The best thing I love about this club are the deals you can get on drink when you are really low on cash. It's nice that I can go to this place at the end of the month with only about 10 dollars and get enough $3 Long Islands to get me buzzed and in a good mood. The dance floor of the club is really decent for the amount of people who find there way there and it's interesting to find a two story bar that can create two different feels to it. When you are downstairs in the main bar, you can dance, or watch the boys dance, and have a few drinks. When you go upstairs, you can listen to the music and just chill out on the couches upstairs. If you are feeling a little warm from all of the hotness going on around you, it's not hard to travel to the outside to the chill patio area. This is definitely a good bar to go to and chill out at and, if you get tired of the dance club, you can pop through the secret door to Depot. read more

I've only been here once and enjoyed my experience with the gays; and I only use the term "the gays" to be mildly offensive in a gay loving kind of way. Drinks were priced well. There were a lot of people dancing their hearts out in front of the big screen; and by big, I mean a little smaller than a feature film screen. Did the dance floor light up? I don't remember... Must of been the alcohol. Met a guy named Kyle; he's a gay go-go dancer. He showed us his sweet moves, hit on a 40 year old man in a business suit who kept buying him drinks, and would join the conversation with my girlfriend and I (who he assumed was my hot date --- not tonight Kyle) after he got his drink, and did a little shimmy with his butt over the guys intimate area. 100% awesome. I love Badlands. Sexual deviants, dancing, and alcohol make for one hell of a night. As proven with time, over and over again -- The gays can really #$%!'n party man. I will go back. read more

Badlands=Badass! They lose a star for the grouchy door guys. They act like there is a near riot outside. But, they did not ruin my night! This place is awesome! The bartender we had was super friendly and had the cutest smile with dimples. The drinks weren't outrageously priced and the music....well, the fact that I danced to Eve and Beyonce says a lot. I love how spacious this place is and the dance floor was hopping but not overly smothering. The flat screens are playing videos everywhere you turn. The guys are shirtless and will graciously accept dollar bills down their shorts (not by me). I think I found my new favorite hangout. read more

I went here last night and it was a GOOD TIME! The cover charge was $8 but it was worth it, especially considering we stayed there all night. The DJ played some great music, despite not taking any requests, and the dance floor was constantly PACKED with people gettin' down. On each side of the dance floor on little platform boxes there were dancing guys in their itty bitty briefs (one of whom surprised me by running his hand through my hair and dancing with me from behind at one point). The bar is a good size, with a large bar and the dance floor on the main level, a small bar (and coat check) downstairs, an outdoors area with another bar, and an upstairs with yet another bar, a sitting area, and a balcony. Definitely a good place for a nice summer night so that you can dance your butt off inside and then go outside to cool down. And to top it off, there's a late night burger place literally right next door that is AMAZING for a 2am snack when the club closes! read more

Excellent place for music and dancing. There's a huge screen above the dance floor and several others around the bar -- all playing the music videos. Along with the requisite lasers and sparkly decorations, the experience they've created is exciting and trippy. They also seem to do a good job attracting talented DJ's and occasionally some interesting "event hosts" (i.e. porn stars or drag queens). Fridays are fun. Saturdays are better. And the second Saturday of each month tends to be a bit bigger and busier. read more

Came by here on new years day for a drink.. this was my first time being here, I been to faces before but not badlands. me and my friend made way through the bar and went upstairs to get a drink.. We got our drinks and sat down and chilled for a bit. After words, we made our way around the bar. there was an dance floor and it was pretty packed. we then walked around so more , and saw there was a patio outside. it overlooks K street and is right across from Faces. one more thing, they are connected to the depot next door and the second level, there is another bar on the other side. This is the best gay club of Sacramento Great customer service, super sexy bartenders that actually care if you like your drink or not, up to date music, great patio area. There's spots to sit if you get tired of dancing and there's room to dance. Can get pretty packed from time to time but you won't have issues like you do as Faces with people fighting and what not. read more
