There is an article with a write up in the entry way of the restaurant that says delizioso. I would describe it as absolutely fantastic and one of the best meals I've had in months. If I could rate it over 5 stars I would. Excellent service with top notch food equals a great dining experience. We had the ensalada Mattone, veal Marsala, pasta with prawns and espresso cheesecake washed down with a watermelon margarita (and the virgin version). Our meals could not have been better.

For the longest time we've driven past here and kept saying we needed to try it. We made a reservation and went on a Friday night. The place was busy but we were seated fairly quickly. The vibe inside is definitely date night or friends get together. They have a decent variety of options on the menu, we got the bread basket which was super tasty. Because it was a Friday night service was a bit slow and it was super loud, so keep that in mind. Everything we ordered was very tasty, we sat in the dining room but apparently there are other seating areas we may check out next time. Come give this place a try!

Solid spot. Really nice ambiance and really good service. Definitely a sit down restaurant great for a date. There's two rooms- one with dining tables and the other by the fancy bar (also has dining tables). Had excellent service from the hostess, server, and other staff members and felt very welcomed. Here's what we got: Pork belly appetizer 7/10 I prefer mine crispy Lasagna 10/10. I typically don't like lasagna but this was some of the best I've ever had. Shrimp bruschetta 7.5/10 it was worth it and only $12 Mushroom pasta (mafaldine) 5/10. I ordered this and it my least favorite by far. Had a weird bitter taste. Ragu 9/10 this was delicious and had pork shoulder meat I believe. All of the pasta was home made! With the service and fine dining atmosphere, Ragu, and lasagna, this place deserves a 5 star rating even though I didn't care for my mushroom pasta entree. About $130 after tip and tax for 3 entrees and 2 appetizers.

Came here to celebrate my sister's birthday. The parking situation is a little tricky but was able to find a spot not too far away. It's a cozy little Italian spot and you can tell it's authentic. The bread basket with the house made focaccia was AMAZING, we ordered 2! Started with the meatballs and arancini which were delicious. I got the Fusilli al ragu and it was phenomenal. The pasta was perfectly al dente and the sauce was superb. The service was really great and well and I would definitely be back again!

Mattone Ristorante was amazing! I am a pasta lover and so happy I found this place. The service was friendly and amazing. The food..... was authentic and tasted like the best Italian food I've had in Sacramento. We tried the pork belly prosciutto because I was curious and never had it before. I was amazed how tasty and how each flavor complemented each other. I ordered the pappardelle, let me say "the best" and the pasta was cooked perfectly, very rich in flavor, creamy, and so delicious. You'll just have to try it! We also tried the lasagna, packed with so much flavors and never had lasagna tasted that good. The restaurant had plenty of seating, I was there for dinner so it was low dimmed romantic lighting. Great choice of wines an available for dinner, we ordered two glasses of Sauvignon Blanc. Thank you chef, for an amazing dinner. I'll be back to try other dishes on the menu!

We were craving Italian food and came across this place. We started with the Capesante con Piselli, which came with pan-seared scallops, acorn squash purée, crispy parsnip, and salmoriglio sauce. It was incredibly delicious; the scallops were cooked perfectly, juicy, and full of flavor. For the entrée, we ordered the Lasagne al Ragù di Carne, made with 12 layers of spinach pasta, meat tomato ragù, béchamel, and Parmesan cheese. It's my first time seeing green lasagne, which was really interesting. Their ragu sauce was spot on, rich and well-balanced. We also tried the Gnocchi of the Day, which was a bit letdown for me. The gnocchi had a firm, almost hard center. I was expecting it to be soft, pillowy, tender, and have an almost melt-in-your-mouth. The sauce was a bit watery, and overall, the flavor profile felt bland. For the desserts, I had the tiramisu, made with mascarpone, ladyfingers, espresso, and cocoa powder. It tasted good, but I personally prefer a stronger and bolder espresso flavor. The service was great and very attentive throughout our meal.

My friends and I came here for lunch a few weeks ago. We had great food and conversation paired with amazing service. It was my first time at this restaurant, and I gravitated towards the pesce del giorno. The dish was pretty tasty. I would definitely like to try some of their pasta dishes in the future. Our server was very nice and attentive.

The food was beyond delicious! Definitely found a great new Italian restaurant! The service was exceptional thanks to our server Sarah L. She attended to all my needs for a healthy dinner! Drinks were perfect and ambiance was fabulous!

First time here and everything was delicious! Their tiramisu is amazing. Love the ambience. Would definitely return.

12(!)-layer lasagna. The picture does not do it justice! They apparently use Parmesan and not riccota, which made it taste so delicious.

Found our new favorite Italian spot in Sacramento! Food was top-notch with scrumptious house-made pasta. The lasagna was 12 layers of pure perfection that melts in your mouth. Usually not a lasagna fan as it feels too heavy, but this one was just right. The steak bites appetizer was perfectly cooked and had great natural flavor balanced with sauces. The salads were... salads. The service was friendly and attentive. The only thing slightly missing was that the ambiance didn't match the quality of the food and service, with artificial flowers on the tables, mildly uncomfortable booths and just a boxed-in feeling. The dowdy outside also does not prepare you for the level of food within.

Giving Mattone a 2nd try a year later. Went at the lunch hour and many locals and business meetings happening at this quaint neighborhood restaurant. Subtle and tasteful decor with a quiet elegance. I've decided this restaurant no matter how many folks are with you, time of day etc. they take longer to serve. Could be because everything is made in house including pasta which I appreciate but just know when coming you are in for a minimum 2 hour serve whether at lunch or dinner. Food: beautiful presentation, pasta perfectly cooked Al dente with wonderful rich and creamy sauces. Hearty portions and you won't leave hungry. Please note the bread assortment with butter is a charge but worth the $. We ate the following: Bread Basket House Made Focaccia and Breadsticks Insalata di Barbabietole Roasted Beets, Mixed Green, Frisee, Point Reyes Blue Cheese, Candied Walnuts, Tarragon Walnut Sherry Vinaigrette Pappardelle con Gamberi Saffron pappardelle, Prawns, Vodka Tomato Cream Sauce, Garlic, Parsley Garganelli alla Crema e Funghi Porcini Mushroom Cream Sauce, Saute Mushrooms Service: great and offered suggestions for wine and food.

I went here yesterday for the 1st time with my boyfriend. I will admit we were not prepared as this is a fine dining restaurant as we didn't have the proper attire or make reservations, but none the less we were still welcomed and sat down at a table immediately! The restaurant is small but the inside is really nice with lots of plants decor, wall paintings, etc. For appetizers we ordered a Bread Basket, Steak Bites, & Calamari Fritti. All were amazing, so much flavor in every bite. It was my 1st time trying Calamari Fritti & it was a great 1st impression!! As for the main entree I ordered the Lasagne & my boyfriend ordered the Steak. I can see why the Lasagne is popular, it was DELICIOUS, probably one of the best Lasagne I have tried & it tasted real authentic, hard to find at Italian restaurants these days. The Steak was also amazing as well too my bf enjoyed it very much, said it was better than a lot of Steakhouses in Sac. We were so full at this point but still decided try the desserts! We ordered the Cherry Cheesecake & Tiramisu both very tasty. Cheesecake was very flavorful & I loved the cherry sauce, wish there was more though! As for the service our waitress was very wonderful & make sure we had a great 1st time experience. We definitely will be back, as I saw other menu items on previous reviews that sounded devine but weren't present on the menu (they switch certain menu items depending on the day) Great experience one of the best Authentic Italian Restaurants in Sacramento!

first review of 2026! we came to Mattone Ristorante on a saturday evening and fortunately were able to get seated despite not having a reservation We ordered the scallop for the appetizer. I was a big fan of both the texture of the scallop as well as the flavor of the butternut squash sauce. The lasagne al ragu di carne was also top notch for me as well, the noodles were perfect texture and the meat sauce was flavorful The tiramisu had quite a large portion which is a plus, however the coffee flavor that is typical of tiramisu was slightly lacking Overall I would recommend checking out Mattone Ristorante, it's worth the trip!

This hidden gem offers an experience that's unlike anything else in the city. The setup is simple but charming: you literally walk up to a window and order your wine. I believe it's one ring for white, two for red, and three or four for sparkling--don't quote me on that, but it adds a playful, old-world vibe that makes the whole experience memorable. The Wine Window is affordable, laid-back, and surprisingly quaint. It's the kind of place where the ambiance, the people, and the energy make it feel more like an experience within an experience--not just a drink stop. I had the chance to chat with John, the owner, who shared a bit of the backstory. He previously owned a full wine room nearby, but when the pandemic hit, he had to pivot. Instead of calling it quits, he leaned into a smaller, more intimate concept inspired by wine windows in Europe. Honestly, I think the scale makes it even better. The outdoor patio is perfect for relaxing with a glass of wine while people-watching on L Street, and yes, there's even a restroom available (a rare but very appreciated amenity for this type of setup).
