The drink menu! They offer a Gibson Martini which is really easy to make but many bartenders confuse with a gimlet. Nice!

The Back Door Lounge is a classic Old Sacramento spot. It's been there as long as I can remember and hasn't changed much in all that time. It always reminded me of an old Rat Pack hangout even before I found it there's a lounge singer on the weekends. Maybe it's the wallpaper, or the wrought iron railings, but I always think of New Orleans when I walk in the door. It's dimly lit, has comfortable seating, a great jukebox, and lots of character. They staff is always friendly and happy to mix up a cocktail, pour beer, or serve a glass of wine. I'm not sure if they've always served food, but there are some hearty breakfast and lunch options on the menu. I can't say I've tried the food, but it sure looks good. Weather you stop in for a drink, or for a meal, you'll like the Back Door Lounge, cause it's the real deal!

You think of Old Sacramento as more a tourist area, but there are a lot of bars that cater mostly to locals. I visited "Back Door Lounge" for some day drinking after watching games at another place nearby. It was slow; but the bartender was hospitable and a good conversationalist. Drink prices were reasonable. The place is too neat to be a true dive bar; but it's got a little grit, just because the building is old.

This would be my second time eating here. For breakfast we got the back door breakfast with bacon. We also got the chicken fried steak with eggs. I've got to say that the chicken fried steak is incredible. So good. The potatoes had a good taste and the bacon was nice and crispy. All around a very good breakfast. I'm surprised more people don't come here for the food. It's a dive bar. Not huge inside but has lot's of tables and places to sit. It's in a alley near firehouse restaurant. The bartender was nice and the cook has skill. Whenever I go back to old sac this is the place I'm eating at or even to just get a drink. I hope more people give this place a try.

We were told this was a good breakfast spot. So we gave it a Ordered chicken and waffles, single waffle, biscuits (cheddar bay biscuits) and gravy, country fried steak, a couple more side of French toast and eggs and bacon meal. This if all for family of 6. Chicken and waffles were good. The chicken needed a little more flavoring. The breakfast combo was really good. Eggs cooked perfectly. Biscuits and gravy were pretty good, again gravy needed more flavoring. French toast was really good. Onion rings were good and so were the fries. Service was nice. The price was good. Nice hidden spot. 3.5 stars

Excited to try their menu items!!

An oldie, but goody! Have been coming to this old-style, dark, and great vibe bar for many years, and it's still one of my favorite spots to take family and friends, and/or catch up with my best friend while enjoying whatever we feel like that day. Sometimes it's whiskey, sometimes a dirty martini, either way, we leave this place happy. Next time we're coming back to try their brunch! Their menu looked so yummy.

Babe and I were greeted as soon as we walked in. Mike was our bartender and he made an excellent suggestion. Initially I wanted to order a sidecar, he suggested a blue Hawaiian. Let me tell you, the best blue Hawaiian I've ever had. He was also very knowledgeable about how to balance flavor with the strength of the alcohol. It was just fantastic. We will be back for sure!

So many updates from the old days but keeps the original flavor. They've added pool tables. And, best of all pizza hot from the oven.

Ambiance: I visited post New Years so they still had some holiday decorations up but really enjoyed the upper class feel. It really doesn't feel like any of the speakeasies I have been to before as it was much brighter and more open space but enjoyed it nonetheless. Food/Drinks: I strictly stayed with Espresso Martinis but they were prepared pretty well. The flatbreads also tasted amazing! They also had a list of different holiday themed drinks for those inclined for some holiday cheer. Service: The service here was super quick. We also all tried the shooters, I had the Nesbitt, and he got the Perry. Every drink was delicious, no complaints from any of us. The lady helping us with our order was super sweet, patient, and friendly, and the guy who seated us deserves a shoutout too. There was a small mix-up, but he made it right and got us that perfect fireplace seating. Gold star service. Overall, I'd rate the experience a solid 9 out of 10. Once your reservation time comes up, you are escorted to a booth or bar area and given a menu. We had welcome drinks upon arrival and could choose from a cocktail list. The drink presentations are gorgeous, and you can tell a lot of thought goes into both the flavor and how everything looks when it arrives at the table. They have a great selection of gin, rum, champagne, and whiskey, and I often lean on the staff for drink suggestions because they're really good at recommending something you might not normally order. A few times now they've pointed me toward a drink that ended up being a hidden gem. I've been here a few times and it's always a great time whether you're catching up with friends or doing a date night. The food is also surprisingly good and pairs well with the cocktails. It is definitely on the pricier side, but that's part of the experience. Also, because the space is small and intimate, reservations fill up quickly and they do require a deposit, which goes toward your final bill. Helpful tip: make a reservation ahead of time and don't be afraid to ask the staff for drink recommendations -- they're excellent at guiding you to something special. Final verdict: absolutely worth it.

When we walked in I knew I was in the perfect spot-this bar has those low lights that all the bars in the 70s and 80s had-giving off a both romantic and mysterious vibe to it-I was in love with the place from that moment on. The music that day was awesome-I heard they have live music at times but at the time of my visit they did not-they were instead playing 90s and 2000s R&B and Hip Hop-it was wonderful-one banger after another-so yeah I was vibing. Our waitress couldn't have been cooler-she was as friendly as can be-suggesting drinks that were both on and off the menu-her and I were sharing tequila stories based on our shared affinity for the Fortaleza tequila they had in stock -which is super rare and it's how I judge every bar-whether or not they have Fortaleza tequila on hand and The Butterscotch Den had multiple bottles on hand. We ended up going with a few drinks that day. -Strawberry Negroni-($13.00)-This one blew my socks off-my favorite drink in the works is a Negroni but this bar makes a Strawberry version of it and let me tell ya-it's dynamite-10/10 rating -Old Fashioned-($12.00)-This is my go-to order at most bars because it's pretty reliable and most bars can make a decent one and I'd say they make a very solid one here-8.2/10 rating -Cucumber Gimlet with Tequila-($11.00)-This drink was made with lime-sweet vermouth and tequila-it was very refreshing and went down way too easy-rating 8.4/10 -Mezcal mystery drink-($12.00)-This was a drink the bartender made that after we declared our love for the smokiness of mezcal-I wouldn't be able to ask for it again unless I got the same waitress but if your a mezcal lover like I am-this drink was top of the line-smokiness intensity off the charts-9.1/10 rating So a little about the place that I picked up during my visit-I guess they serve food-I didn't know that but after my 2nd drink I looked back and saw this entire dining area with table side grills-so I guess the customers cook their own meats and such-pretty cool concept-my visit was strictly a drinking visit so I didn't partake but it looked pretty cool. I guess they are opened most days from 4p-12am and until 2am on Friday and Saturday nights. They do not have a dedicated parking lot for this bar but they are located near 34th and Broadway-so unlimited street parking is available for those who drive here. In closing-I really really enjoyed my visit to The Butterscotch Den and I was pretty sure I had found my new favorite bar in Sacramento with a bar in the Ice Blocks but I am pretty sure that has changed and The Butterscotch Den is my new favorite bar in the greater Sacramento area-if you find yourself looking for a new spot to enjoy some adult beverages or maybe looking for a date night spot-don't hesitate to make your way over to The Butterscotch Den-the place is a true hidden gem. PS-They have a Disco Ball in their lounge area and a vintage non-working cigarette machine-the coolest I tell ya.
