This bar is phenomenal. I would like to preface this by saying I've never had food from this location if they even offer food. You walk into the bar and it's massive. I don't think I've ever not been able to get a table or booth for longer than like 15-20 minutes. The music is at the right level if you still want to have a conversation. The bar is always clean and the bathrooms are lovely. It's not the type of bar where you have to go looking for a drink. From Lavender Martinis to hot toddy's they're putting out fantastic drinks. The Jamison and the Giant Peach is my personal favourite. The bartender wouldn't give me the exact recipe no matter what but he made one in front of me, after I proved I didn't live in the same state and had a completely different career. I was able to approximate it at home and it's still my go to cocktail. The ingredients are high level and the service is impeccable. 11/10 this place makes a delicious cocktail read more

This bar is carried almost entirely by the live music, which is providential, because the rest of the experience is a slow march into annoyance. Charlie, the bartender, has all the warmth of a parking ticket. He seems deeply offended by the existence of customers. He is surly, rude, unfriendly, and has the general expression of a man being forced to work off a curse. Ordering from him feels less like getting a drink and more like asking a prison guard for a favor. The drinks are overpriced, which might be forgivable if they were at least consistent. They are not. By the third round, the alcohol seems to have gone on vacation. The smell alone tells you something is off, like the liquor was shown a glass of water and told to do its best. So yes, the music is good, the place is okay, but the drinks are suspect and Charlie acts like hospitality is a personal attack. read more

We finished our Valentine's Day weekend with a nightcap at The Shady Lady Saloon. It was the perfect little stop to wind down the night. When we walked in, we seated ourselves at the bar and ordered our drinks. The bartender was friendly and asked if we wanted to start a tab or cash out, which I appreciated. After getting our drinks, we moved to a cozy table where we could actually talk and enjoy each other's company. I ordered a Zombie, and my girl ordered a mocha coffee cocktail that I can't remember the name of. She didn't expect it to be warm and sadly wasn't a fan, but I actually liked it. My Zombie was okay not exactly what I expected, but still decent. The music was a big highlight for me. They were playing a lot of old-school jams, which I really enjoyed. There was one moment during the night when the door opened and a strong wave of smoke came in that was a little overpowering, but it passed. Stopped by on Saturday around 5:30 pm. The host greeted us and let us know we could sit and order from the bar. The bar area wasn't crowded, so my friend and I took seats and waited. Unfortunately, we sat there for about 10 minutes without any acknowledgment from the bartenders. There were two behind the bar (a man and a woman), and despite the place not being busy, neither checked in or greeted us. After waiting with no service at all, we decided to leave. With how expensive everything is these days, it's hard to justify spending money at a place that shows such little attention to basic customer service. Hopefully management takes steps to improve the guest experience. We went to another place nearby and they mad up for where this restaurant lacks. read more

What a mixed bag. I've actually been here once before because of a show I saw over at Ace's, but this most recent visit was my first time to take it all in. Dark and lush inside, this is the perfect place to spend enough time in to forget about the clock altogether. The vibe is lovely. It's ruined by the cattiest service I've ever received--as if it were my fault the staff were trapped inside on a beautiful day, there was no winning over the bartender which is already a bad sign; it's your job to impress the customer, not the other way around. Food was disappointing--duck tots are more croquettes with lots of potato filler, wings were described as a combination of wet and dry (what?!) and came out almost inedibly burnt. Cocktails were killer though. The James and the giant peach themed one is damn near perfect. Wouldn't return without my feet to the fire though. What a disappointment. read more

"Fries go with everything!" My friend and I went out for a date together and ended up here on a wet Sunday afternoon. I have stepped in The Shady Lady years ago, but never had the opportunity to sit and chill out. We got cocktails and shared a barrel (it was HUGE and delicious) of garlic fries with a smoky sauce on the side. The saloon is dimly lit and they allow kids during the day time. They even have a small stage for life music. This is such a Sacramento establishment. I love a bar with a menu so I don't do the awkward thing of looking panicked at the bar and end up ordering something basic like a rum and coke or a lemon drop. I can't wait to come back. read more

It's been awhile since I ate here so we wanted to give it a try. We ordered some appetizers and drinks. The service was good and the ambience was cool. We ordered appetizers with a glass of wine and a beer. We ordered the jambalaya croquettes, garlic fries and fried pickles. The croquettes and the fries were soooo good! Both had the best flavor. However, the fried pickles were burnt and that's all we could taste when we took a bite; it was a bit disappointing but overall, it was good experience. Editing review after coming a couple times! Have been here now a few times with friends on nights out. Most recently we came on a Friday night and there was live music (and good music), lots of people enjoying the performance, and a great intimate atmosphere. So far we've experienced jazz and Latin music, both amazing different energies that filled the space! The inside has dimmed lights, beautiful decor, and a good amount of booth, bar, and table seating. There is also outdoor seating but it is a bit limited. It was very busy one of the night we came but the bartender was nice and served my friend quick. This most recent time we were lucky enough to snag a table to sit at and ordered some food and drinks. We ordered the fried Mac and cheese and it was delicious! Very flavorful and well seasoned, the sauce it came in has a great spice and taste. The drinks took longer to come out compared to the food but it made sense given how packed the place was. Definitely love coming here! read more

What a great location, walking distance to many bars and eatery! We went out on a Saturday night and this was one of many stops. We did only have drinks here, but the vibe was everything love the decor.. the security guard out front was kind of mean for no reason and the bartender wasn't the friendliest either.. but it could have been a rough day for all I know so that won't affect my rating as the drinks were still good and we had a great night. Just don't get the cava sparkling wine. It was gross, but all the other drinks we had were delicious. Fairly priced. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area visiting other bars. read more

Always a wonderful time at this bar. We love the ambiance for its live music. Last time I was here it was a jazz band, tonight was Latin! People were dancing and everyone was having a wonderful time. The drinks are delicious and always well made. We tried the Mac and cheese bites as well and they were good. I would recommended the Moscow mule as it was perfectly made! Service is excellent. Super fun place with live music and amazing Agave Fresca (non-alcoholic mocktail that used Seedlip's Notas de Agave) and it's one of the best NA beverage I've had! I'd come back just for this! My boyfriend got the penicillin (recommended by bartender) but he did not like it-- he said it tasted like medicine . He preferred my drink, too. The live band was singing some classic hits and people were dancing and singing along! It was busy on Saturday night, and the bartenders did their best to keep up! Came in around 8:30 Friday night and were lucky enough to snag a table before it got super packed. Always have loved the ambiance here, it's speakeasy very lush burgundy and gold. The crowd was mixed at the time, but everyone was vibing and having a good time. Music was good too, just loud enough to flow with the roar of the atmosphere. Our waitress was great, she was super accommodating taking multiple payments and getting our orders out expeditiously. Ordered the English tea garden mocktail - had an over powering licorice taste and came with mint instead of apple do it made the flavor profile kinda clash. Also ordered fried pickle which were good. Came into the shady lady over the weekend had heard about it through some friends. I ended up having a couple of dirty martinis, which were fabulous. My husband had an old fashion. We opted to get some appetizers and got the garlic and parmesan fries - those were great and the voodoo wings. My husband liked it, but honestly, I thought they were burnt. The saloon has such an old Victorian vibe, the wallpaper was fabulous and the art of course was amazing. The only thing that really got me was when I was leaving the restroom. I seen the biggest cockroach in the ladies restroom. Thankfully, one of the workers walked in, and I pointed it out to her, and they took care of it. Kind of ruined the mood. read more

This was a pretty cool bar. Tons of people were out before Christmas on a Monday night and they had a guy in an elf suit leading Christmas karaoke. For drinks I tried the Singapore sling, which was solid. Fruity but not overwhelming. Went on a Saturday night with two friends. It was samba night and they had a live band. People were dancing and the vibes were great! We sat ourselves and were helped quickly by our waitress. My friends ordered a Moscow mule and the fried mac and cheese, while I got the Manila sunrise. The drink was very strong and pretty sweet, but overall balanced. The mac and cheese was also very good, with just enough kick to make it interesting. I was surprised that our food came out faster than our drinks, but service was overall pretty fast for the number of people who came out! Tons of fun! read more

Been here for new year eve, they ask for $20 / person to get in for the New Year event . Ok , it's fine, the staff told us that we can get out and get back later if we want too. So we went inside, got the drinks and still so early before countdown, and seems a bit bored here , we decided to walk out to the next bar to play games and get back before countdown , cuz we paid for ticket already, we don't wanna waste it. But when we got back around 11:30pm , they staff said No could not get in, it's full.!!!! I was surprised, so we the tried to sell the ticket for people to get in for the event, they didn't count how many people gone be inside and over sell it? If we know thisX we didn't go out . This is very misunderstanding customers. But I didn't wanna drama for new year so we just left. It's so disappointed about how they running this event . I will never go back. Definitely my favorite spot in Midtown. Most of the time I have my drink of choice being poured before I have a seat. If the staff sees and recognizes me, and has a minute, it will happen. If there are people in front of me, or if they are crowded, I wait my turn and get 5 service every time. Tanya served me today and she always spots my glass running dry before I do. The craft cocktails by every member of the bar staff are precision made and the best in town, and I am extremely picky. Vince is one of the most intuitive managers you will find in the industry. I have been sampling high end establishments in this area since moving here from San Diego 4 months ago. The Shady Lady is a great place to enjoy a cocktail with some friends. We love the ambience inside the place. We have our favorite appetizer which is the Duck Fats Tots. The flavor is great. The cocktails are hard to choose since they have so many on the menu. There were four of us and it was not too busy but service was a bit slow. One person asked if the bartender could make a drink that used to be on the menu but were told they stick to what's on the menu because there are newer staff who may not have been around previously. We came to The Shady Lady Saloon last night for some dinner before a concert. I've been to The Shady Lady for drinks, but never the food so I was excited to finally check it out! We ordered the Pulled Pork Corn Crepes, Duck Confit Tots, Jambalaya Croquettes and the Shrimp Po Boy Sliders. I was a big of the Shrimp Po Boy Sliders (and the fries that came with them), but everything else was okay - I liked different things from each dish, but nothing wowed me. If you like heat though, definitely check out the Jambalaya Croquettes! So spicy! The decor at The Shady Lady is also what makes it unique! With the paintings, red sofa and mood lighting - it's definitely a vibe! It's a great place to have a drink - I recommend the Red Daisy especially if you like tequila! Our server was great and worked his butt off even though it got very busy towards the end. We appreciated that our glasses were never empty! The have a brunch menu that I will definitely be checking out very soon! read more

Someone else said it, but it's true, this is a sac town staple. It's right on R which is a nice area with a ton of other options, but you should stop here. They have fun, unique drinks and great food! I got their Caesar salad which is huge! I added steak and it was nice and tender. You could definitely share this with a big group. I have watched this saloon do the downhill slide in slo-mo now for about 8 years. The food has gotten much worse, deep frying chicken wings in obviously very old, reused oil, eliminating some of the decent food, like the steak salad and it goes minus from there. In addition to bad food, the waitresses and bartenders are rude and the new owners have stupid rules about sitting at tables. The place looks dirty perhaps that is why the lights are dim. But, a plus..the ladies room is cleaner now. The sink was always back up so they finally got a plumber in there. The big plus for this place: The music is good and often exceptional. Word is they are losing money and will be eliminated the music. The music is not the problem: its poor service, waitresses and bartenders with bad attitudes (people walking out on their tabs), and very bad food most likely due to a dirty, greasy kitchen. Safest drink is beer in a bottle. This place is in bad need of managing, a facelift and staff that wants to work there rather than what it has now. read more

This place is always a good time and truly such a vibe. From the food to the ambiance, the music makes it a classic for me. If you want to feel like you have time traveled to the 1920s while still enjoying a modern feel, this is the place! The decor is gorgeous, and the music and events are always great to attend. The food and drinks are also consistently good. I miss the fried green tomatoes, but I still really enjoy the deep-fried mac and cheese balls and the duck confit tots.
