We were staying at stovepipe well lodging and this restaurant is attached to it. We had a lunch here and a dinner today and both were very good. Our dinner tonight consisted of the salmon entrée as well as the vegetable pasta and a side salad. It's basically the only restaurant to grab lunch in Death Valley. We stopped in for a later lunch on a Thursday. The staff was friendly and helpful. Out in the middle of nowhere, Badwater Saloon was a total win. We came in thirsty and hungry each evening after exploring Death Valley, and this place delivered--rustic charm, cold drinks, and surprisingly good food. Salads were fresh and flavorful (seriously good). We ordered the arugula salad multiple nights - it was awesome! Burgers were juicy and hit the spot - fries were crispy and maybe the best I've ever had?! Pizza was just okay, but everything else made up for it. The real standout? We've been here at least 10 times in the last 4 years. Always great food and drinks at a reasonable price. Way better than just "bar food". Our favorites are the Elk Chilli and Classic Cheeseburger with fries that come with "rattle snake sauce" that is perfect. Great service as well! read more

Stopped by here after a long trip through death valley. They had a menu that featured a lot of cocktails and a selection of beer along with food. My friends ordered the steak n frites which were decent steak wise that was cooked medium rare. The fries were a tad bit soggy. I ordered the fish and chips and was told it was a good choice. I unfortunately found it disappointing. the fish wasn't as flaky more tender. The breading was a bit too bready and hard. The fries were also soggy and the tartar sauce could be better. I ordered their versions and old fashion and it tasted just like alcohol with hint of fruit flavor. Was hoping to find a sit down place to grab dinner after a long day of visiting the park and happen to come across this cute little place. While the wind picked up and cut our dune visit share, the saloon had several vegan options for the standard prices for the area. The service was good and the food portion sizes are decent. I got the peppers and was about to order a side salad but the server told me not too - she was right I had so much food and the salad would have not been eaten. The little place is cute and inviting. An old school saloon inside a National Park, don't skip out on the vibes at Badwater while on your way to see the Mesquite Dune. Service was super kind and friendly--they offered us a high chair. We ended up grabbing a few items to go in order to have a picnic at the dunes and got a cheeseburger with the extra $7 for the double patty, which came in at $22. It was definitely a hefty cheeseburger. Nothing special, they definitely just use those cook from frozen larger 1/2lb patties, but they prepared it well. Located inside Death Valley national park, grabbed take out here on the way to the mesquite sand dunes. The menu was very enticing so it was hard to choose but opted for the chicken wrap and my partner got a cheeseburger. I do love a bar that has a water cooler so you don't have to wait at the bar for water! The meals we ordered were served with a side of deep fried French fries and a pickle. I would definitely skip the wrap next time as I didn't realize it was chicken fingers more than chicken breast but the cheeseburger was pretty tasty. A really enjoyable saloon to have dinner at while in Stovepipe Wells in Death Valley. For being only 1 of 2 places in the area for dinner, I was pleasantly surprised by how good the food was. The ham & Swiss sandwich was delicious, with plenty of cheese to make the sandwich great. The pulled pork sandwich was super delicious as well. We were very disappointed in the tortilla soup, though. It looks like a good vegetarian option, though, but was probably one of the worst tortilla soups I've ever had. Kudos go out to the bartender. She was the only one working the restaurant, and she handled the bar and serving food like a boss. The restaurant is pretty large, super lively, had a pool table, and an open bar. What a wonderful surprise! Our group of 7 had lunch after visiting Ubehebe Crater on our way out of Death Valley. They had a nice range of options including a vegan meatball sub sandwich which my husband deemed good (bread was a little too toasted which made it squeeze the meatballs out.) I had a bison burger with bleu cheese which was really delicious and the coleslaw was the way I like it - thick cut cabbage, creamy but tangy dressing. One of our group asked to taste the Bison chili which sounded great but he deemed it just OK. Everyone else was happy with their burgers and fries. The one person working was very helpful. I liked the vibe in here much better than the restaurant that is just next door. They also had no problem splitting checks thanks to a new POS that the restaurant manager was really happy to tell us about. read more

The moment I stepped into this restaurant after a very long day of hiking I knew I'd love it here. Initially, my friend and I thought that there are no restaurants at all in Death Valley so we prepared lots of food but we finished it sooner than expected. Last night we stayed at the National Park, we saw this restaurant near the camping site and we went there. I am happy we did: amazing atmosphere, quite a lot of tables to fit many people. a large menu, and very nice waiters. The food did not take long to be ready and this place also has wi-fi, which we were surprised to hear because there was no wi-fi at all in the entire park for the 2 days that we have been there. I usually never am able to finish the meal I have ordered because the portions seem large but at this restaurant, I ate it all: the chicken wings with garlic sauce were delicious, the sweet potato fries were crispy, and the salads were refreshing. 2.5 stars I like that the water is self-serve at the front. I wouldn't mind more places doing that. The food was decent (chipotle black bean burger and Scotty's chicken wings). But the service was substandard. We waited a long time for the food. Finally, it came out, but the employee took it to another party (who had ordered 4 black bean burgers and 1 chicken wings to go). They said their order was to-go, so the employee started to take it back inside. I stopped this person, looked at the food in his hands, and said it was our order, but he said it wasn't and went back with the food. He brought it back out in a to-go box, and after they reminded him that they ordered 4 burgers, he acknowledged that it was our order and gave it to us. Later on, he apologized and attributed the error to being intercepted by the other party. But it seems like a lot of time could have been saved if he had taken into account my statement that it was our food he was carrying the first time. Rather than shutting me down or trying to act like he was right and knew what was going on, he could have acknowledged my statement and become curious. It might have saved everyone some time and headache. P.S. Their wifi isn't strong; it gets stronger if you go to the other side of the restaurant. read more

We arrived to the saloon around 5:30 after visiting the Mesquite Sand Dune, a few miles from our hotel and this Saloon. The Saloon is big with full bar and great selection of wines and beers. We had Fried chicken wings, the "cowboy burger", 2 draft beers for a total of $42.55. The food was good, my husband enjoyed his huge burger and onion rings (substituted of French dried with no extra charge), my chicken wings were almost good if they were fried a minute or two more (one star leas because of this) The 2 ladies servers were nice and attentive. read more

I enjoyed our break here to get some food and air conditioning. It is conveniently located across from the Stovepipe wells general store and campsite. Plenty of parking all around. As soon as you approach you can see the nostalgia of the wagon, and once you enter you are transported to a rustic western saloon. We had been out exploring several sights since 530, dealing with a flat tire, and decided to take a break, relax, get out of the sun, and get some grub. We were seated very quickly. It was not super crowded, even for lunchtime on a Saturday, but it was February. We had a nice view of the bar and basketball games on the TV, and had some time to look over the menu. There are plenty of options, but I decided to get the cheeseburger and fries and I was very happy that I did. The fries were cooked perfectly, golden brown, perfect amount of salt, they were crisp, and delicious. The cheeseburger was a decent size 8 oz, and I was definitely was not hungry after the burger and fries. The cheeseburger was cooked nicely, and it paired perfectly with the Brioche Bun. Gayle and I enjoyed a very nice Lunch here last week. We had just visited the nearby Dunes, and were hoping for a bit to eat beyond what the Stovepipe Wells General Store had to offer. The Badwater Saloon is physically connected with the Toll Road Restaurant, which probably means that the 2 establishments share kitchen and staff. The menu is primarily a burger, sandwich, and salad selection. Gayle and I both went for a basic cheeseburger, plus the adult beverage of our choice. Hers was a generous Chardonnay pour and mine was an IPA pint. Our waitress was very kind and accommodating, especially when they were out of my first beer choice. Gayle also gently reminded me that one need to be nice when folks are trying to do their best when faced with labor and supply chain challenges. If you like prickly pear, get this! The queso fundido also hit the spot, and it's a pretty generous portion. The two of us couldn't finish it all. After hiking mosaic canyon my boyfriend and I were starrvvving but honestly didn't originally expect too much from this place (just because it's in the middle of a remote NP) but we were so pleasantly surprised. I stumbled onto this place after visiting the Mesquite sand dunes. It's located right next to a gift shop and gas station so I wasn't expecting anything good. Atmosphere: The decoration looked like a West world movie with cowboys. My friend and I sat at the bar area. The bartender was really friendly and talkative. (The older gentleman) Don't expect a fine dining experience, because the atmosphere is very laid back and chill. Food: The food did take some times to come out, but the house made chili was packed with good flavors. Steak on the steak salad was perfectly executed. We stopped the last three days of May 2021. This was the open functioning restaurant in Stovepipe Wells. They had a limited menu whether breakfast or dinner. The ambience was nice but no sitting at the bar. Lots of western decor which as fun to look at. We ate in here in the AM and the PM. Meals were good. Lots of coffee, etc. Plus some good beers on tap. The staff all over the town were so great. I cannot imagine dealing with covid, few visitors, the heat up to 115. Each person that works there has a different story about why they are there. Service was very slow, and we were ignored the whole time while other tables were not. It was the strangest experience I have had at a restaurant, and not a good one. Would not recommend. When we go in, there's a sign that tells you to seat yourself. We seat ourselves, then a couple minutes later a waiter mumbles a question to us. We didn't hear and asked what he said. He didn't repeat himself, and just walked away. Then a couple minutes pass, we see the same waiter and another waitress staring at us at the bar. The restaurant isn't that busy. It's obvious that they're talking about our table, and it isn't until we get up that the waitress is like no no, sit down. And asks us what we'd like to drink, etc. We place our order and get our food in a normal time. No water service, even though we see a waiter pass by and fill water up at other tables, and he clearly sees that ours need refill... We have to flag down a waiter for our check, but he somehow forgets about it... It isn't until after our plates are cleared that our waitress comes by and says she's sorry for forgetting about us and asks if our food came out... Server was screaming and arguing with me. Racist staff. Its unfortunate because there are so many asian tourists who come to visit Death Valley and get treated like trash here. They purposely treated us poorly because they thought we were pushovers. If you come here, eat at your own risk! They're the closest hotel and restaurant so they think they can treat their asian customers like garbage. If you're here for the "Death Valley Experience", this place is definitely not it. When we got to the Saloon, it was not busy and we were one of the first groups to arrive. The restaurant sent us to the Saloon for burgers, because they were only serving buffet but we wanted a smaller meal. My family members all got their food but my boyfriend and I were still waiting for ours. Customers who came in after us got their food. I still didn't mind waiting. Finally, a server came out with soup and a burger and asked if it was ours. I let him know that I didn't order soup but I was waiting for two burgers, the Frenchie and the Cowboy. I assumed he would go back to their station to figure it out. The server Dustin was incredibly rude. When I told him that I didn't order soup, he came back MULTIPLE times insisting loudly that my group ordered soup and the Frenchie. He repetitively demanded to know who had ordered it- even though I told him that we didn't order it. Laura, who was at the register, told him that we came in a group of 15, saying "they're all spread out". She grouped us with the previous asian group that came in. We were "all spread out" because we were not together. We had 7 people and were tired so didn't think to pay together. She didn't bother to ask if we were together and assumed that we were together just because we were asian. When the group that sat next to us said that they ordered it, Dustin looked at me, rolled his eyes, and said, "WELL THERE YOU GO, and it IS your ticket". He left, and I felt sick to my stomach. I lost my appetite so I asked my boyfriend to go get a refund because I wanted to leave. We felt disgusted due to the interaction with Dustin. My boyfriend went to the end of the line so he could get a refund. As Dustin came out with the Frenchie and the Cowboy, I let him know that I didn't want the burgers and that I was going to get a refund. He angrily said, "you'll have to do that over there", motioning to the register. He called out again, "Frenchie and the Cowboy", and another group raised their hand so he handed the burgers to a table nearby. When my boyfriend politely asked if he could have a refund, the cashier snapped! She threw her hands up in the air then aggressively slammed her hands down onto the counter. "What was wrong with the food?!" Where was the kindness she had shown to the previous customer? She had told another customer that she liked her blonde hair and was smitten with her. was it because the customer was white? Maybe? Most likely? Who knows... When we told her that we wanted a refund due to the poor treatment from Dustin, she cut us off. I told her that we didn't get our food, and it would make sense that we would get a refund. Dustin came over, and Lauren told him to call a manager. Dustin said "if it's credit card I can do it"... or something similar. So he got on the register and seemed to initiate the refund. My boyfriend said he didn't have a receipt, and Dustin looked irritated. I then told him that we were never offered a receipt after we paid. They had been taking a long time trying to help us so my boyfriend apologized to the customers around us. Dustin asked if we had beers... why? We asked to talk to a manager. He said we probably have to wait until the next day for the manager to come in. We said that we can wait until tomorrow too, so he left and brought the managers. They refunded two of our meals and apologized, letting us know that they will address the issue... (what issue were they going to address? Don't know) they then said to all the other customers, "we apologize for the standstill". The manager didn't even bother to ask us what happened. He just wanted to send us on our way. If we had gotten our refund and hadn't received all this blatant racism and attitude from the staff, there would not have been a "standstill". I felt that the manager was not going to do anything else. He didn't care. Disappointed, we left. I'm glad that we got a refund for the food, but am still not satisfied with how the staff treated us, nor how the managers handled it... we drove seven hours to Death Valley then went exploring and hiking... we snacked a bit from food we had brought, but it was dinner time and we were hungry. We ate here twice during our DVNP trip. The burgers, fries, and Moscow Mules were awesome after long hikes, and it was pretty empty both times we went (around 1 pm and 5 pm). Good food and service, and much more affordable than the restaurants at the ranch hotel. read more

Really, if you've made it to Death Valley and you're eating in a place called the Badwater Saloon, this is already half the point, no? The Saloon is ensconced in Stovepipe Wells Village, the more affordable and vintage of the two major hotels bordering the otherwordly beauty of Death Valley National Park. The park is of course, the only real reason to be here, and if you're a nature/art/photography buff, it is absolutely a place you must see before you die. The restaurant itself is an old west treasure. Giant ancient wooden doors and bedecked in all kinda legit cowboy relics. If you're bothered by cheesy faux tourist stuff, Badwater is the real deal, and has authentic charm. OTOH, If you're bothered by legitimately old creaky things, you might be one of the many complainers I see on here, griping that it's just not all that fabulous or eco. Lol. All that said, the food here ain't bad. Burgers are on point and the service is super friendly. They served us fairly late after a long day of exploring and my only complaint was the loud cray sports dude having some kind of hemmhorage every time his team lost. Other than the sports TV, though, the place fits the scene. Not many other options anyway, so not the time/place to get snooty. Just be happy there's food and shelter here. read more
