Now I'm used to very good quality food, and I will say the food here isn't five star quality. More like 3 but that's because you are in the middle of nowhere! We were staying in the park for two nights so we had a couple of dinners and breakfasts. I tried to be healthy and get the stuffed poblano peppers and those were decent but I wouldn't reccommend them-unless you're vegetarian. The next night I gave up and just went with a bison burger which was solid. For breakfast if you get to the breakfast bar early enough there are fresh mixed berries and plantains which were a unique touch. The prices weren't too bad either. The staff were all very friendly, the meals came out quickly, and the restaurant and Saloon had a rustic decor that went with the locale. Since we weren't traveling with children I preferred the Saloon with the beautiful views. Considering all that has made things difficult lately, tariffs, wars, etc... the fact that you can get a decent meal in a remote location is pretty impressive. read more

TERRIBLE SERVICE! Got seated, given menus and was ignored. Bartender finally came over and took our order with an attitude. I asked him what beers he had on tap and he responded with "I'm not going to tell you all of them!"... so I got up and walked over to his bar and looked... I then met him at the bar and told him what I wanted and he didn't even make eye contact and just mumbled "ok". Then he brought our drinks without a word and we were ignored. We waited over a half hour just sitting there. Finally I walked up and asked for our check as we had waited long enough. These people have a lot to learn about the service industry. Yum! Walking distance from the Stovepipe Wells Airport right in Death Valley, this tavern brings you back to the old country...where you can grab some drinks and eats before venturing back into the National Park. There are some vegan options, but I ended up with the burger. Got it to go in order to go to the sand dunes and eat it as a picnic there. YUM. The double burger was MASSIVE. It was good, although the patty was not hand formed, but the french fries were solid. Wouldn't recommend the chicken strips or anything, but I do think their burger is solid. read more

The lighting was incredibly dim inside and the staff seemed unhappy. Overall a very depressing vibe. We had stopped in here hoping for a warm lunch before heading back out to hike Mosaic Canyon, but when we saw the food being offered at the buffet we immediately left to go eat our protein bars we had in the car. The only bright side to stopping in here was that we were able to connect to their WiFi and check our phones for the first time in 6 hours since arriving to the park. read more

The staff was super friendly but the food took a while to come out, long enough for me to run across the street to the general store and still wait when I got back. We were staying in furnace creek but couldn't bring ourselves to pay $30 a person for their buffet. After reading TripAdvisor about the gas station in stovepipe and Google maps/a local corroborated that this place was the better one in the center of Death Valley we decided to combine the sunset hike of Mesquite Dunes with our restaurant visit The waiter Roy was very friendly and seated us promptly. We heard a guy a few tables down saying that this was the 2nd day he had driven from furnace creek to ear We tried the tortilla soup, the bean burger, mushroom pasta, and regular burger. All were reasonably priced and there were veggie/vegan options on the menu. They told us the cakes were from Cheesecake Factory, which was a nice touch. Decor was posters of the plethora of movies filmed in Death Valley and quaint in itself. 10/10 would recommend! read more

We visited on 03/11/22 and were welcomed by DUSTIN a stellar employee of Stovepipe Wells Restaurant @ Stovepipe Wells Village (my receipt reads "Death Valley Lodging Company" It was the best dining we had in Death Valley. The classic burger was perfect, although they say they can't do "medium rare" and only do "medium well" (which is usually a businesses choice for heath code reasons on ground beef), it was pink enough and very moist, tender and juicy with a thick patty and priced at only $12.95 with a side of fries. It was the best dining experience in service, as Dustin was super friendly and attentive, as well as price, quality and value as well as quantity portions. They even accommodated us with an off-the-menu "Grilled Cheese Sandwich" for our particularly fussy 5 year old and hooked him up with an unadvertised (not on menu) kids meal to his pleasure and gleeful delight. We were staying at The Oasis at Death Valley and tried the food there, which was really lackluster and overpriced. If you're going there, then I recommend highly that you eat here (and it's even worth going to the Oasis, but coming back and driving back here for food). Hands down it's the best and most recommended place to eat in Death Valley National Park that we can provide testimony of. read more

We've been coming to this restaurant for a couple years now, and this was the first time trying it with the new ownership. A lot of it was the same and the service was amazing. We got the stuffed peppers and while it was good, it did seem to be one flat note of flavor. It needed a little bit more seasoning or lemon zest, that would bring it to life. We used to get the pasta with a white cream sauce but now it's in a marinara sauce, I wish they would've kept it with the white sauce. But I haven't tried it with the marinara sauce, so it still might be good. We will definitely be back as we drive through Death Valley on our trips from Las Vegas to Bishop, California. read more

Then you look up and there it is! Stovepipe Wells Restaurant! It is over a 110 degrees, you park your car, ahmm! Tie up your horse and open the heavy wooden door. Inside, a beautiful western style restaurant-bar with plenty of cold beer choices on tap and in bottle. What else could you do but to walk up to the bar, ask for a long cool one and a plate of spicy Buffalo wing?! I've been to Stovepipe Wells Restaurant a few times over the last few years, and I must admit that my first time there was the funnest time because it was so new to me. The food hovers between "OK" and "Good" depending on your timing, same goes for the service. Remember that they are in the middle of nowhere, so your choices for food are limited, but you are guaranteed to be happy with the beer or other drinks that come out of their bar. In the middle of Death Valley with no food for 40 miles, this restaurant is an amazing find! I personally love a small menu which is mainly burgers and sandwiches, a few salads, pastas and one fish dish. There are two dessert options and a few apps. We had cowboy burger, classic burger, pulled pork sandwich, 1 soda and 1 cheesecake which was $68 before tip. All of it was delicious and service was sweet. Despite being short staffed, we waited about only 20 minutes with several families ahead of us. For vegetarians, there are options like black bean burger, pasta (which can be made without butter) and salads. Pulled pork was a little sweet and the cheesecake too sweet but of course kids loved it. Would definitely eat here again and way more reasonable than other eating options. read more

When we got to the restaurant half the power had been taken out by some crews working down the way so we got a limited menu. I am so happy for this because it forced us to choose the BBQ Burger. It was one of the best burgers we have had in so long. The bun should get five stars on it's own and the onion rings were crispy and fresh. The meat was just the right size with tons of flavor. Once you get done with the most delicious burger you are left with crispy fries that you could eat for days. Our server kept checking in with us and apologizing for the craziness of the night. Sometimes you love a restaurant for the food but hate the flaws like I just witnessed today First of all, I would have rated this a 5 star if the food didn't take so long and the food wasn't overpriced. We got in the restaurant and after like twelve minutes they came to take our order. Then about an hour later they served a LOT of food to another table and said, "sorry there was a busy table but we will get you're order shortly." Soon enough they gave that table a bill and I wanted to convince my family this was a waste of time and that we could have eaten at home and started sightseeing by now until food finally came. But I ordered French toast with fresh fruit not fresh jam! They were also supposed to add butter but that didn't happen either. Food was also overpriced for what it was. I didn't give this a one star because food was still great! If you can, avoid this restaurant but if you have no idea in going somewhere else, go ahead! read more

Vegetarians will starve! I am amazed that in 2023 people think that vegetarians only eat vegetables. No mention on the website that the restaurant is NOT OPEN--there is a buffet for all meals. Here are your buffet vegetarian dinner choices at Stovepipe Wells: mashed potatoes; brussel sprouts or slivers of mixed vegetables (at lunch) floating in 3 inches of greasy water; salad; sliced bread; dinner roll. For breakfast you have the usual choices, but every single hot item on the buffet is COLD: cold scrambled eggs, cold wet potatoes, cold pancakes. The breakfast server was hands-down the meanest person I've experienced in a restaurant--yelling at people for sitting in the wrong place, not seating people, dirty tables all over the room. We got scolded for sitting at a table that had not been "sanitized"--she told us it was "against the law to eat at a table that had not been sanitized." What....??? How can you even come up with something so crazy? Seriously, eat at The Ranch at Furnace Wells; it's 20 minutes further up the road and so much nicer! read more

A wild menu with a surprising amount of quality items. Not all fried food!! The salads were fresh, the crazy chili was good and so was the grits dish. This is pretty much the only place to eat within an hour and they know it, so they charge a lot. The wait staff are friendly but unfortunately supply outstrips demand, so expect to wait a while. This restaurant is located in the Stovepipe Wells Village across the street from the gas station. It has an old western look to the interior and serves all 3 meals. There's WiFi here, but really slow, so just good enough to check e-mail. The prices at the restaurant are elevated somewhat just due to this location. The food is passable, nothing to get excited over. If you're staying here at the lodge, it makes an easy place to get breakfast before heading out to explore. Service is passable as well, not the best but not as bad as a Chinese restaurant. I eat here again, just cause there ain't no other place to eat out here. Stovepipe Wells has the cheapest non-camping lodging in Death Valley. Easy parking here. read more

I am extremely disappointed with the service and the so called "service fee" that was included on my check. When we asked the server what the charge was for he said "the restaurant takes a cut and I take a cut" after pressing some more he said he would take that charge off. We would have tipped him better had he not included that. Tourist beware of the bogus "service charge" I'll be keeping an eye on my credit card bill, to make sure nothing else was charged. All and all, thought it was pretty good. My family of 5 had the veggy pasta and broccolini, cheeseburger, chicken and ribs, chicken fried chicken and the pork chop and it was all very acceptable with only slightly higher then normal prices due to it's remote location. Service was quick and the folks were very friendly. If we staying in the valley any more nights, we would have probably eaten here the rest of the time. We have learned that paying a high price is common for food and such at the state and federal parks. I no longer rate based on price as I cannot compare it to a normal restaurant that doesn't have to deal with the same issues as does a restaurant, hotel, bar in another setting. I have read some of the negative reviews and I am left feeling like that those people want to compare something they used to know with something that is new and you just can't do that in this setting. The reason things change and prices go up is because they would have failed if they had not and and also the market has proven to bare those prices. So why cry about it? I think for what Stovepipe offers the prices are fair. You are wanting some sort of civilization or you would not have stayed in a RV park/motel in Death Valley. With that said enjoy the park, the people and sights and stop crying because your pocket book it lighter. Love love love this little village. read more

We stayed at the campground and walked over for a bite. The restaurant itself is beautiful and has a great western decor to it. I wasn't expecting high class food, since we were roughing it in the middle of nowhere, but this place was a huge letdown! When we got the menus, we noticed they were minimal selections, which we guessed may have been due to the government shutdown affecting resources. We later found out it was because the kitchen was undergoing renovations. That being said, I ordered a turkey wrap for 11.95 and when it came out, it looked like they had just grabbed a 3.95 wrap from the general store and threw it on a plate for me. It was cold and bland. They really should put some signage up at the hostess stand to give people a heads up about the menu. Also, the server kept talking to himself, it was an entirely strange experience. read more

Great service, wide beer selection, yummy food- the perfect place to stop after a long day of hiking and exploring the park! The black bean burger is delicious. Most importantly though, the staff is amazing. They're really friendly and more than happy to chat or give recommendations.
