Needed a breakfast while traveling and luckily found this shop. Got a breakfast sandwich on an everything bagel (egg, sausage and provolone). The bagel was absolutely delicious, paired so well with the fresh fried egg and quality sausage. The cheese was all melty and perfect too. The folks working were super nice as well. My kids were a bit overwhelmed by the strong aromas in the shop, but someday they'll appreciate that means great food is being made behind the counter. Ben & Bean as it is listed in every major website is no longer, it is now bagel boss and it's a shame. The service was lacking at best, we watched MANY health code violations while we stood and waited for our drinks. The menu was hand written and illegible to read, making it very hard to order a bagel as we wanted. My pumpkin spice latte was absolutely atrocious. read more

They don't have tea, just Lipton. That's a place that's a bakery and café. They should carry teas. They only have Almond milk for alt milks. Nice enough, but not one of my "go-to" spots. I expect a bakery to have decent options. read more

Well it has changed owners AGAIN (we heard). While the bagels have been ok in the past they haven't been as good as a real NY bagel factory in years. That maybe why it this place seems to sell every year or two. Unfortunately the bagels now taste like you bought them at Food Lion. Not at all the yeasty firm, chewy quality that makes a bagel a bagel. We tried it twice (to see if it was an off day) and it was the same. We decided if we want Lenders quality soft bagels we can save money and buy them at a grocery. There are many other bagel options from Sunset to Myrtle Beach. Another great experience at Ben & Bean - this time we ate at the restaurant. Wasn't too busy at 8:00am, but picked up while we were there. They have indoor and outdoor seating - not too much but enough if you've got a small party. We ordered two bagels and an iced coffee. The bagels were outstanding, as usual. The iced coffee was good - you're not gonna find too many other coffee shops in the area, so it's definitely worth it. We did not have to wait too long for our food. read more

I've been to Ben & Bean numerous times since it opened but am usually on my way out of town so haven't had time to review until today. The staff are friendly and willing to accommodate requests. Bagels are great and so is the chai tea. The inside was clean and neat. In the mornings they have a steady stream of customers. If you want to order a lot of bagels for a group, it helps if you call the day before. read more

My wife and I stopped in yesterday for a quick bite while running errands and we're glad we did. I had the bagel & lox sandwich which was absolutely delicious. We came here for some bagel breakfast sandwiches during our beach trip. It's a little ways away from OIB island but not too far. The bagels were good and a decent size, and I was thrilled they offered Taylor Ham (pork roll) as a breakfast meat option, but they don't fill the bagel up with enough of anything...light on the egg, light on the cheese, light on the pork roll. Thick bagel, thin on contents. We got some drip coffees, but these were nothing to write home about. They had a DIY coffee bar with cream and sugar to the right of the counter. Through word of mouth we found this place and I couldn't wait to give it a try when I came to visit. They're open until 3pm which was great since we were able to come by after a walk on the beach. I got a bag of day old bagels for $5 and took them home and put them in the freezer and have been enjoying them since. While there I ordered a caramel latte which was delicious and a bacon egg and cheese on an everything bagel. It was well topped with seasoning and the egg and bacon were fresh. My mom ordered a chocolate croissant which they heated up for her and both she and I were impressed with how much chocolate was in it! Been wanting to try this place out for years, but it's so "hidden" in that big plaza we forget it's there! Decided to stop in on my Wednesday morning and glad I did! Very small shop w limited seating. I was a little confused by the overhead menu (was really just looking for a sandwich). They seemed to have things randomly written so it took me awhile to figure out what my options were. I ended up ordering a Turkey on Asiago bagel w tomato and lettuce. It was SO good - very fresh and the jalapeño cheddar cream cheese was amazing! I also ordered an ice coffee. It was ok - they were low on ice, but he had it premade so it was already chilled. This is not a place to come if you're looking for "gourmet" coffee (which is why I give 4/5) Just the basics :) We will return and took a menu for our beach house renters! read more

Day 1: ordered toasted poppy seed bagel with butter to go. Got an untoasted poppy with butter on the side. Day 2: ordered sesame seed bagel toasted with butter. Again the bagel doesn't feel like it was toasted and it was buttered on one side. I didn't think they have a toaster or they don't know how to use the one they have. They think I'll butter one side of the bagel and the other side will get buttered when I put them together. This is wrong, lousy customer service and lazy. The Deets: On a recent stay at OIB, we went by the bagel place on the island and found the line was unmanageable but we needed bagels...Yelp to the rescue in that we found Bada Bing Bagels a short drive away towards Sunset Beach. We drove out to check it out and glad we did. The staff handled our orders quickly and efficiently. I usually like just a plain regular bagel with cream cheese and the ones I got were very good, I enjoyed them. Others got selections such as the everything bagel as well as the flavored cream cheeses and thought they were great...even ending up buying tubs of the cream cheese varieties to take back with us. Friendly, efficient service with tasty bagels/cream cheese make Bada Bing Bagels a place we will keep on our list for breakfast when around OIB in the future. read more

Everything was so easy from the placing of the order online, email communication, and the pickup of the order. When it was Bada Bing, the bagels were pretty bad. Now that it is Ben & Bean, bagels are awesome!! Wife said it was the best bagels we have had in OIB/Sunset Beach/Shallotte. Decided after calling that we would give them another try. When I called I asked if the bagels were still flat and had plenty of seasoning, I was told not flat and seasoning all over. Again very disappointed. They are very flat, seasoning on only one side and the flavor just isn't there. Sad they're not better. read more
