3 stars for effort. These bagels look more akin to Parker house rolls or hamburger buns that are baked together on a large tray then split apart. Taste ok, not chewy like a traditional bagel, more like a dense bread. I am hankering for a NY style of bagel. Decor here could use a remodel. read more

This place is a great little spot to find fresh bagels. I first went on a Saturday right around noon, the lights were off and it looked closed, but the owner was inside. There were still bagels that hadn't been sold which he sold to me at a reduced price. These are not your traditional bagels, but are delicious and something worth trying. The only problem I have with the place is that it is usually closed by the time I can make it on Saturdays. read more

Love the bagels here!!! The jalapeno & cheese and the plain bagels are my favorites! The guy is nice and friendly. The prices are a tad on the high side but doesn't stop me from going there (it's worth it for sure). It lost a star because of the availability of bagels. The price is right on target for what you get-the Cedar cheese are the best, but there are so many to choose from that you can't go wrong. He is friendly, and will come up with flavor of cream cheese you want. I like the plain with lox. He does not charge extra for condiments. Every time I visit up North I always stop at the Bagel Deli!! The decor is odd but the food is so good that you wont care. My favorites are the Jalapeno and Jack Cheese bagel, and the Chocolate bagel. The Blueberry bagel toasted with butter and powdered sugar is also delicious! What an interesting bagel experience. It was most definitely unique. My friend and I split a jalapeño cheese bagel and had mixed feelings. The bagel was kinda unconventional and chunky but not in a bad way. The jalapeño and cheese was in the middle of bagel accompanied by a gallon of war cream cheese. The bagel was a little burnt on the edges and was very thick to bite through. The place as well as shopkeeper seemed to very well liked by locals. The bagel was too indulgent for my taste but cream cheese lovers would have a field day swimming in that bagel. read more

I found this place by accident because they were a block away from a motel I was staying in - what a find. This is the real deal - they make 'em fresh and hold their own with fans of the bagels of NYC (it's the water, you know, and granite ain't the same as limestone). If I had know about this place I would insist that all the reviews of "best breakfast" in Redding (County Waffles is the 2nd best the city can offer? really?) are from people who don't know that you can eat food that doesn't come from 5 gallon buckets off the back of a sysco truck. Honestly, I loved that they had somewhat shabby couches in addition to a few tables. More people need to go here because it would suck if they couldn't make a go of it. Strange that they're in a run down strip mall type place, but I bet/hope rent is nearly free. I asked for a veggie cream cheese, which they don't do and the guy behind the counter said "I'll come up with something" and did. They really are more of a sandwich type bagel place than a cream cheese place and their bagels are very well suited for sandwiches. Hard core bagel fans will tell you they are a bit too crumbly and not quite chewey enough (and, apparently, not boiled), but finding a place that's 75% of the way there is more than anyone could hope for within a four hour drive. read more

My husband and I were craving bagels so we decided to head out into Redding on a late rainy Saturday morning. I had read a few reviews about the bagel deli but hadn't had a chance to try it yet. When trying anything new I always approach with an open mind. At first glance the small little corner business is dark and not the newest of interior...but again I kept an open mind. We arrived at the little deli after 11 so there was nothing left in the case and all remaining bagels had been neatly bagged up for sale at half price. The owner immediately informed us of what flavors he had left and offered to toast up our selection. I went with the onion bagel toasted with cream cheese and my husband went with the jalapeño and cheese bagel toasted with cream cheese. To put it simply...the bagels were amazing. The texture was perfect, the flavors phenomenal and the cream cheese had poppy seeds and a savory flavor of its own. My husband and I were very pleased and full as these bagels are not petite in size. Oh, and if your expecting the normal appearing bagel with a hole in the center, then you're in for a surprise . The biggest critic in our family is our 13 year old daughter, she despises all foods unless its plain chicken and white rice. We took her home the chocolate filled bagel and she loved it, now that's saying something!! read more

These are the best bagels you will ever have! Great selection, owner bakes them fresh every morning, but get there early, they go fast. I usually call in my order the night before, we love the chocolate, the whole wheat Marion berry, the jalapeno and cheese, and you can't go wrong with the plain. His cream cheese is whipped all fluffy, delicious! This place is old school, very friendly and casual, owner always there and friendly, remembers your name, makes you feel welcomed and at home. These bagels are huge, great selection, but if you have a super favorite, leave him a message the night before and he'll make them and save them for you (sooo nice!-who else does that?!!). It's cool to relax there and enjoy your bagel freshly toasted, but we usually get a weeks worth to-go. read more

Not the kind of bagel I'm use to.. I found this place on yelp and decided to grab a bagel before I hit the road. From the outside it looks like an old Chinese restaurant, definitely not a deli. You can't really see inside, so I was already skeptical. Went in around 10:45am and there were only a few bagels to choose from. Looks like he was ready to close up shop. I got a plain bagel and strawberry cream cheese. Very basic compared to what I normally like but I'll take what I can get. Got on the road and opened up the package and my bagel fell right in my lap. It was a sloppy mess. It wasn't strawberry cream cheese.. It was cream cheese that had more like a sour cream consistency with strawberry jam. Not what I ordered. It was dripping "cream" everywhere. I had to stop somewhere and change and still wasn't able to get my bagel fix. Next time instead of being in a rush, I will look for a more well known bagel place where I know I can get what I want. It was late morning when we arrived at the not so impressive building with simple décor and the entire selection was not available, but between us we got a plain bagel with poppy seed cream cheese, and a hot pepper bagel with poppy seed cream cheese. There are a ton of options for both cream cheeses and bagels plus a fine assortment of sandwiches that are customizable according to your taste. I'm a vegetarian, which prompted me to order the cheese melt from the list of sandwiches, although I believe there were other veg options for sandwiches. I ordered it on a jalapeño cheddar bagel and was delighted to find real, sliced jalapeños in it. The owner was really nice and welcoming, and there's a variety of options for seating; although, I haven't been here during peak hours so I'm not sure how crowded it gets. There's a game table, which is great for kids and adults alike.
