Bagel Mainea used to be my favorite bagel shop around. I loved the staff, the atmosphere, and obviously, the bagels. I came here today for the first time in a few months because I've been in a rough financial spot, but I decided to spoil myself and order online since I was rushing to work. The order said it would take about 30 minutes, so I thought, "Okay, I have time." I got there about 20 minutes later and was shocked to see that my order was already done! I grabbed the bag and headed back to my car, gave the bagels to my partner, and we hopped onto the interstate. Unfortunately, the next exit was 10 miles south. My partner pulls the bagels out, and to our absolute surprise... THE BAGELS WEREN'T EVEN TOASTED. WHO IS ORDERING A BAGEL WITH CREAM CHEESE UNTOASTED?! So not only did I pay $20 for THREE bagels, but I paid for three bagels that were completely inedible to me. And because we were already on the interstate with no exit for 10 miles, there was nothing I could do about it. I'm honestly so disappointed because I used to love this place. I understand mistakes happen, but when you're spending $20 on three bagels, especially when you're already trying to be careful with money, you expect your order to at least be made correctly. Would not recommend after this experience and due to the change of atmosphere, I won't be back, and will be taking my bagel orders to Sunrise Bagel down the street. read more

I used to come here when doing client business in Augusta - haven't been in years, but taking the granddaughter to check out colleges and bagels is part of our routine. Everything is as good as I remembered-I had a pumpernickel bagel, toasted with light cream cheese. Soooo good! Nothing beats a proper New York City bagel, but Bagel Mainea in Augusta, Maine did in a pinch. Good coffee, nice and strong. Sesame and blueberry bagel we're good. They could bake them a little longer as my sesame bagel was a little pale other than that a tasty little stop. They also have coffee, a large variety of lunch menu items including soups. Their ingredients are always fresh and there are lots of healthy options. There will a usually a wait and a line. Best bagel shop around! This place is always popping- normally a 15min wait at least for a bagel. You can call ahead and pay on the phone and pickup quicker if u need. Stopped around 7:15am while on our way to Acadia to grab some sandwiches (and bottled kombucha) to go. They were very friendly despite the hour, and our bagels held up nicely for when we ate them ~an hour later. An over-easy egg (in this case it was closer to over medium but NOT over hard, which I appreciated) is a risky experience but I found my Taylor ham, egg and cheese on sourdough to not be as messy as anticipated despite the reasonable portion of cheese. The sourdough bagel was soft for my liking but still delicious and sturdy (not tough at all!) and the rosemary black olive was firm with flakes of sea salt. I would not mind returning to try some of the other creative sandwich options and bagel flavors--this was a great start to my day. read more

Was just passing through Augusta on my way to Bar Harbor and stopped in for a quick bite. My initial impression of this place was that it would be a cute little mom and pop spot, and I was right. I opted for an everything bagel toasted with butter and my boyfriend who typically doesn't do well ordering on the spot, asked for the cashier's opinion on what he should try which was a blueberry bagel with jalapeño cream cheese. The blueberry bagel with jalapeño cream cheese was actually pretty darn good! Overall, we were happy with our pick. The food was out quick and it tasted good! Bagel Mainea! See what they did there? It must be a beloved bagel shop because we were one of four groups waiting outside for the 7 AM opening and people just kept coming the whole time. Lots of bagel and cream cheese choices. Great sandwich menu if you're there at lunch. My veggie bagel with veggie cream cheese was very good. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I LOVE this place. This was our spot in high school and I always make sure to stop by when I'm visiting home. It's so cozy inside and there the service is always very friendly! There are so so many bagels to try and a lot of different sandwiches to order. My go-to order is the Honey-Avo-Turkey on a salt bagel. I was at the Quality Inn and saw this place around the area as we were looking for an alternative to the hotel breakfast. First thing, if you want to know what's on the menu, shout out to the staff for writing all the items down in the neatest handwriting I've ever seen. With that said, if you're coming here on a Saturday, come when there's a line. I got here around 11 and all the good bagels were gone, including everything and plain (which was kinda odd). Additionally, I couldn't find the egg and cheese on the menu, but I was glad I didn't order that because it took nearly 15 minutes to get a bagel toasted with cream cheese. I get that things are not as fast here as in NY, but 15 minutes is just WAY too long to turn around a bagel and cream cheese. 15 mins in NY/NJ can churn out nearly 15 bagels, including a handful of egg and cheeses. The kitchen is huge, so not sure what the delay is in the ordering process. When we got the bagel, it was fine, but definitely not worth the price you'd pay for a bagel. Then again, there aren't too many better options in Augusta, so you gotta live with what you have. read more

I frequented Bagel Mania so many times long ago when I lived in the area. It was always such a treat. Loved the bagels and sandwiches always. Fast forward 15 years later and still glad the place is still around! That says something. Recently revisiting the Augusta area, which is sorely lacking in good cuisine choices, went with a tried and true for sandwiches to go for a picnic lunch to take to the lake. Not so impressed. Good, but not outstanding. Service was o.k, but just seemed so rushed an robotic---which resulted in the sandwich order not being correct. I ate 1/2 the bagel sandwich and the rest unfortunately was tossed. Did not see any side salads available. I think the pandemic has ruined just about everything. read more

Omygoodness! Where have this shop and bagels been for the last 20 years of my life. I spent my college years in Brooklyn ,NY where a NY style bagel was around every corner. I was in the Augusta area and was in search for a bakery. Bagel Mainea came up offering NY style bagels. Of course of the nostalgia of my college days I decided to make a ride there. Inside is a quaint place filled with freshly made bagels. I decided to get a Black Olive & Rosemary toasted bagel with lox. The bagel was fresh and incredible tasting. It's a little chewy ( my liking) , crisp crust with a rosemary and sea salt coating . The filling of lox was plentiful on the bagel . Overall it was a delicious bagel with lox. Fair warning, I've only been inside once, I've always had their bagels outside of the establishment. I am a fiend for their veggie bagels. It's a specific craving I get, so I'm glad Bagel Mainea is so close to my workplace. The bagels are flavorful, and the exterior gets pleasantly crisp when toasted. Came here on a Sunday morning. Soft jazz music being played live, can't beat that. Not sure what to get as I was overwhelmed with the menu, with the suggestion of the cashier I got the sunflower bagel with chipolet chicken with Swiss cheese and mustard. Try something new is my motto in life. Sunflower bagel? Never had it but I'll try. It was filled with sunflower seeds and simply delicious. Now I don't care much about mustard and could have done without it in the sandwich but it was a good sandwich. One of my favorite things to eat are bagel sandwiches. When we first got to Augusta, Maine and I began looking for places I could eat Bagel Mainea popped up several times, and each time I figured it wasn't worth my time to call. Where I'm from most bagels have soy in them, why I don't know - but they do, and thus they are a delicacy I simply cannot indulge. Finally after a couple of days where hubby found me drooling over the photos of all the bagels, he talked me into calling them. Hallelujah they do not use oils of any kind in their bagels, and to make it even better...they use real butter on their toasted bagels. (Cue the hallelujah chorus sung by angels) They are a full service deli, having boars head meats and cheese that they will slice to order. Add into the mix a plethora of bagel sandwiches to choose from, and more 'flavors' of bagels than I've ever seen - all made fresh, and I was in a literal heaven. My favorite bagel is the Everything bagel, and theirs took it to new heights in my estimation the kosher salt mixed in with everything, made it amazing. When I added to it with their Harmony fillings, minus the humus because they weren't sure what kind of oil was used, and this bagel sandwich loving girl and found her new favorite breakfast/lunch place. It helped that they served decent coffee, and offered milk substitutes other than soy, and they were OK with me bringing in my own coconut milk for my coffee! The Harmony consists of Turkey, ham, cucumbers, tomatoes, and avocado you seriously can't get much better than that. Well the humus would be a great addition, but I'll wait until they aren't as busy so I can find out exactly the kind of oil they use, but still the sandwich is phenomenal without it, so I've got nothing to loose. If you are looking for breakfast, coffee, lunch, whatever...This is an amazing place. The employees are very helpful, and willing to do the leg work if needed to find out about allergies. Plus their place markers, so they know where to bring your food, are as unique as they are. We were the comic for a Freudian slip more than once. Also, another nice touch are their hot beverage cup protectors. You get to choose what panoramic view you put on your cup. I chose poppies, butterflies, and a field of wild flowers. Whatever strikes your fancy that day, from bagels to your cup decor they aim to please. I can't wait to return! Every unique touch just adds to the experience. Pets are welcomed on their porch, and as I said they are willing to look into their food for your allergy if you point them in the right direction. read more

The everything bagel tasted old and had no flavor. Pairing the garlic herb was a mistake garlic herb? More like cream cheese with Italian seasonings.Employees don't do well with a great first impression. The lady who was preparing the food was not wearing gloves beside that she thought it would be alright to try to crack her back over the front counter which had customers orders that were ready on it along with multiple customers sitting in the lobby watching her while we are patiently waiting to receive our food that she was supposed to be preparing.
