This bakery has been around for decades. They've recently upscaled/increased their product rage - and wow ... lots of new choices for a diverse clientele. Even the Toronto Police were in there today buying specialty bagels. Who knew that sourdough bagels were a thing?! They have the traditional sweet pastries as well as diverse offerings such as mocha cream pastries and massive "San Francisco apple" creations. There was a sign that said it has been serving for 40 years. This was nearby so we went in as hubby was hungry. He ordered the fish & chips. I had just a small order of fries to snack on. The food was okay. It was like eating at a diner. Nothing upset my stomach at least, so this place passed that test. LOL. The fries were pretty ordinary. They were the kind of fries you get at a diner that were bulk bought & frozen. They weren't even warm when I got them. But they were unsalted which I liked because I could salt to my taste. Hubby's fish was a huge piece & he had fries also. He said it was ok. Our waitress was an elderly lady. She was nice pleasant & patient with us when hubby took his time deciding what to get. The service was very relaxed. There weren't too many customers in the eating area. The space is larger than it first appears because the bakery at the front creates a bottleneck. After our meal we paid & I went to use the bathrooms which are downstairs. The ladies bathroom is really dated too. But I will say everything was very clean. We got some rogalach & sugar free cookies from the bakery. We tried the sugar free cookies & they were dry as heck & flavourless. The rogalach was okay but pricey. The most shocking bread I've ever had, in a bad way... Got a blueberry bun that cost whopping $5.37 after tax. The moment I bit into the bun I was like what the..... The jam floods the whole bun and it's overwhelming sweet. I couldn't even take a third bite at the spot. The bread itself is kinda dry and cold and crumbly. It's the trifecta of midtown Jewish bakeries / breakfast diners...United Bakers, Bagel World -- and Bagel Plus. Which is best? Hard to say. Each has their stand-out dishes. I think Bagel Plus does the best Greek salad simply because I love their homemade anchovy dressing, I always order extra on the side. They also make a great onion bun. Personally, I don't think the tuna is top notch (UB easily takes the win on that one) but the omelets are tasty. Also, it feels less crowded and noisy than Bagel World. As I'm waiting for my pricey sandwich, I notice the menu and see that a flat bagel costs $1.99. So now I'm wondering , could the cream cheese be $6.00? Unassuming place - except for the bright yellow sign so not sure how I'd gone past it many times without ever really noticing it. They have a steady stream of customers for the bakery while the restaurant kitchen shuts down by 2:30pm or so - pretty early. I usually stick with ordering from the bakery. The bagels are great - I keep it simple with cream cheese which they pile on generously. I also tried a few of their baked goods like a mini chocolate rugelach. There's also a triangular shaped cookie with cherry, plum, or lemon in the middle - I tend to go for the lemon. The staff range from friendly to efficient. They have a wide selection of fresh made breads, cakes, and other sweets that I haven't tried but seem like they get practically sold out most days. Great spot if you're in the area. read more

Bias warning - I worked here as one of my first jobs as a teen. I can vouch for the freshness and authenticity of the goods. The breads and bagels are made fresh daily. If you're willing to snap up a bargain the next day, take a look at the selection of things left over from the previous day's baking. Be aware though that this is a Kosher style eatery, not Kosher. Along with the many types of bagels, you can get challah with or without sesame or poppy seeds, a huge range of buns, and many types of sweets - everything from traditional rugalach, hamantaschen, etc. to western style cakes, cupcakes, and cookies. Bagel Plus carries a very large selection of Jewish baked goodies, and also has a restaurant on the other side with a fairly big menu of meal offerings. The cream cheese is deli delicious! Along with the usual lox and egg dishes, you can also choose from some vegetarian options like salads or eggplant parmesan. You won't find any meat dishes. Service varies depending on current staff but it's a family owned business that's been around for years - which means, they take their business seriously, but don't expect corporate white glove/uniform service. A delicious home cooked family meal! From the moment we arrived, we were treated like family. I came here with a few friends for brunch and had one of my best breakfasts ever. Bagel Plus is the one of the most sanitary bakery I been in the area. All the bagels are inside a glass cabinet, all neatly labelled. You can see exactly what they have for the day but if you want to buy any, the staff have to pack that for you. The trade off is you cannot really cross examine what you are getting. Especially the sweet and pastries they are all kind of hidden behind some waxed paper. Most of the baked sweets are sold by weight... and they do have brownies and butter tarts too! More than half of the store space is dedicated to a sit down cafe. You can get bagels in all style, eggs in different style and salad and other light meals. read more

I have been going to Bagel Plus for many years. Their scrambled eggs are second to none, generous portions, cooked to perfection, and up to now i appreciated the service very much....however, a bad experience can quickly sour good will. This past week i went to B.P. after my morning routine of feeding my two cats, and it appears i got there after 10:30 a.m. which i was told by the waitress caused a charge of $2.75 or thereabouts for coffee. This was unexpected and i had not been told in advance that this happened. on top of this, my usual lightly toasted challah bread was very dry- as if it were not fresh. This really spoiled the total experience for me as i don't care to pay $12 instead of about $9.00, this time $14 including tip.... I still left my usual tip, but on reflection, I am going to make my own breakfast at home after researching how to make better scrambled eggs. I can't get rid of the sour taste this has left me after more than a decade of going here instead of any other place for breakfast. Had the waitress forgiven my lateness (as i know she could have done) and advised me she had to charge like this as a rule, i would have been OK. The dried out toast just added injury to insult. I used to be a semi-regular at bagel plus with the old ownership. Since the new ownership has taken over, the quality of the food, and the service has declined significantly. About a month ago I ordered fish and chips, and the tartar sauce that came in the little pockets was best before two and a half years ago. And they had no idea how to make tartar sauce for me. Yesterday I ordered two dozen bagels through their telephone and left a message on the voicemail. When I went in this morning to get the bagels they had no idea the order, cuz nobody picked up the voicemail. And for the record, I left a voicemail at 7:25 in the morning, so they had all day to retrieve the voicemail. When I asked for the manager/owner to tell him about this, he basically told me it was my fault for not calling back and complained they were too busy to answer a voicemail. I noticed a recent Facebook post about a guy wanting to go back in time to a food hangout that was located in the area that I grew up in, Bathurst Manor. There were lots of happy comments and memories about that restaurant from yesteryear and other former Manor icons. And that got me thinking about one of those local spots and especially one that is still going strong... Bagel Plus Bagel Plus has been a staple of the community since I was a kid. It's a place that I don't visit regularly but when I do, I am always quite satisfied. I am always captivated by the assortment of baked items awaiting you as you enter the premises. Bagels, breads, challahs, buns and numerous baked goodies. I've never had a better Blueberry bun and have always loved those chocolate saucers. The bagels are also unique and excellent and to me, they are unlike any other. And I have tried them all. And let's not forget the restaurant. It's full service with the back wall of the restaurant acting as an additional menu. Now, I must admit that I'm pretty basic in what I usually order there. For me it's almost always a soup with a toasted bagel. But I see people around me eating elaborate "big salads" (yes, a Seinfeld reference) and sandwiches. It is certainly a menu that can satisfy even a picky eater like myself or the "discerning" clientele that eats there often. Really, can there be a more challenging crowd than those who visit Bagel Plus? Wouldn't the fact that they have been in business for so long, in the crowded Bagel market, mean that they are still delivering an excellent product? But, Bagel Plus is in many ways more than just great baked goods and a dairy restaurant. It is and was a community hub where you can see or run into old friends and former neighbours and enjoy a good meal. For me, it is a connection to past but a place that you visit that is still good and relevant. And that's a hard to find and even harder to accomplish. There aren't too many places around from the past that are still good in the present. Bagel Plus is one of those rare places. I would strongly urge everyone to visit and to enjoy. read more

My fiancee LOVES this place, It must be something in their Greek Salad. I'm not a big fan, but let's say A FAN. It always gets me that there is no menu at this place and you have to order off the wall. So when our waitress comes to take our order, I'm still waiting for the menu. I usually get some form of sunny side up eggs with lettuce, tomato and a twister bagel and a cup of coffee. A great way to start a Sunday morning. If you haven't been to this place, check it out. Went there with my wife and granddaughter for lunch. It was not busy. I ordered a kids grilled cheese and choc milk. When the choc milk didn't come my wife asked the waitress. She took one off the table next to us behind my wife's back, walked to the back near the kitchen, turned around with it and walked back to us and put it on our table. I asked "is that the one you just took off the table next to us?" She replied "oh, did you want a fresh one?" Really? I can only imagine what they try to get away with behind in the kitchen with no quality control, supervision nor effective management. After eating here, I don't think it's possible for me to go back to Loblaws bagels again! When you walk in, the first thing you see is rows and rows of baked goods. They have a selection of sweets with the typical cookies, muffins, danishes, and turnovers, combined with a large variety of breads, and bagels; from pumpernickel, rye, twist, whole grain, swirl, to a few others I can't think of at the top of my head, this bakery is a bread lover's dream! Bagel Plus is nothing fancy, nor does it try to be. The atmosphere is very cozy and reminds me of home; it's a perfect breakfast or lunch destination for families. Service was decent. Nothing stellar, but certainly nothing to complain about. The menu is on a large chalkboard at the back of the store. A bit confusing to figure out, but once you do, ordering should not be a problem. They serve a decent variety of bagels, salads, and omelettes. Before you go and order every food item that calls to you on their menu, fair warning: the portions are huge. Don't fret if you don't finish though, they insist you take the home the leftovers and won't take no for an answer. The greek salad is delicious. A bit overdressed for my liking, but delicious nevertheless. The bagels. Oh the bagels. Bagel Plus lives up to its name, because the bagels are definitely A+. And you can't forget the cream cheese. Rich and creamy, their homemade cream cheese may be double the price of the blocks of cream cheese you can get at the grocery store, but once you get a taste of it, it's definitely worth it! Don't get me wrong the bread is amazing, but I was slightly disappointed when I went to get bread, and thought I'd ask if they had gluten free bread. She didn't know what that was, and told me she had whole wheat bread. I asked if they had Spelt, but she gave me a confused look and told me about the rye bread. The chalk board on the top, with all their bread choices state single or double. Single means a normal loaf size, maybe slightly smaller. She couldn't slice some of my bread because they were still hot. I took it for $3.50 unsliced. But. I was informed later that you can get room temperature ones from the back where they put the "stale" bread. It would probably be half price too. Omg!!!! I have never eaten in this shop but my dad bought me a pack of four gluten free frozen bagels from this shop. All I can say is, these bagels were to die for! I put one in the microwave on defrost for a little over a minute and then moved it into the toaster oven. This was the BEST gluten free bagel I have ever had. It was moist and soft. It tasted like it was just freshly baked. I highly recommend Bagel Plus's frozen gluten free bagels and will definitely venture here on my own for this scrumptious treat! read more

Bagel Plus is the most underrated Jewish bakery in the city. All the talk in this town is about Bagel World and United Bakers. It's a real shame. These two places are great, but Bagel Plus stands head to head with any Jewish bakery in the damn continent. Soups and salads here are among the best in Toronto. I bought chocolate and almond Mandels (similar to biscotti) on Oct 8, 2021, they were soft and the almonds tasted rancid, the product was not adequate to eat. I returned it the next day, the staff talked to who it seems to be the owner - a man who did not say anything to me, saw the product, weighted the product to get the cost ($5.87), opened the cash and gave me a $5 bill. He only said: "Here". Terrible customer service. I asked him if he had something to say, he said "you don't like it, here's your money". Is not that I don't like the taste, is that his product was not good to sell - it was old and rancid. Had he been a good business owner he would have had a conversation with him, asked what was wrong, and apologize for selling something that was not good, nor safe, to sell. Instead he was rude and arrogant. He should not sell products in that condition, he should not have that attitude, I used to go often for challah and rye bread with caraway seeds, but I will not go back to that store because of the way I was treated. read more

Went to Bagel Plus at Sheppard/Bathurst with friends. Food was not good. Egg does not have the taste of egg. Fish was the frozen fillets. Salad was okay. Very crowded setup. Not much space between table and table. Atmosphere was strange. Service was not good. Staff were not friendly and pushy. I heard that they discussed about some client has been sitting there over 30 minutes. It was impossible to enjoy our food in this place. Sorry, black listed for me. read more

Went to Bagel Plus for the first time today. What a great place! Staff is very nice and helpful. Lots of variety, bagels, breads, challah, Also a very nice cosy cafe area with different breakfast options! I will be back for sure! So, with all the recent closings of landmark Toronto...Jewish restaurants...from Pancers and Daiters, I thought I would visit another staple of my old neighbourhood Bagel Plus. Bagel Plus has been around for many years now and you know what...it's still a great place. When you walk in there is a huge selection of bagels, breads and wonderful looking treats. My daughters were pointing with every finger at what they wanted. But on this day, we were going to the restaurant to eat. Yes it gets busy there during lunch...and that's because it's good. We were treated by familiar staff...even though I have not been there in some time...I felt like I knew them...it all felt very comfortable...and the service was top notch. The food was also very good. Huge salads with bagels and a huge bowl of soup for me. What was there not to like? Now that I live south of Eglinton, I can't tell you how good and distinctive a Bagel Plus Bagel tastes. It was really like coming home. We still had some room for a delicious treat or three after our lunch...and took home a dozen bagels for later as well. Yes, the parking lot at Sheppard Plaza is a bit of the Wild West...but if you drive and park there....well you can drive anywhere. It's good practice for the Toronto gridlock and I looked upon it as a training course for the Yorkdale Parking lot. Bagel Plus....I will be back....soon. read more

I was discriminated against for having a stroller today. I walked into the place and was met by an older lady- I assume she is the owner. She basically told me, indirectly, that she couldn't accommodate me with my stroller. (It would've been very easy to fit us in without the stroller being in the way).
