I have been visiting Bageland on the weekend for a number of months now, and am just now getting around to writing a review. I have always had good experiences here, though what I order is relatively limited in scope. Usually just a bagel (of some sort) with the tuna salad as a topping. When I walk in, it is a simple matter to walk up to the counter and make my food, then sit down at a table for about five minutes while they prepare my order. I am always greeted warmly, and they are able to get my food out in a very reasonable amount of time. The place does a good business, and I am happy that there is a place in Thornebrooke for the morning crowd where you can grab a bite to eat and perhaps a coffee that isn't overpriced garbage from Seattle. I will continue going here on the weekend for my little bite to eat. read more

They have an assortment of different flavor bagels as well as some muffins and quiches and sandwiches. I was there about 10 am and there weren't any quiches in the display so I assume they sold out. I got a whole wheat bagel, light on the cream cheese. I think the bagel is supossed to be fresh since they sell day-old bagels too but it didn't taste that fresh. I also had to still scrape off some of the cream cheese because I'm just not a fan of a ton of cream cheese. The bagel was okay, but I've had better. Maybe its better to get there early right when they open, maybe it would be good as a sandwich but I wasn't that impressed by it. read more

I happened to be driving bu here in the morning to drop off a friend. I love bagels, so I decided to stop in. The shop is bigger on thr inside than it looks from the parking lot, I was greeted warmly and alsed what I would like. All I wanted was an onion bagel and a garlic bagel toasted, with cream cheese, and a small black coffee. I got one garlic bagel and one poppy seed bagel that were warm, and NOT toasted. I ate them anyway. I thought never to return, as my teeth tore into cold, soft, uncrumchy bread with cream cheese trying to keep the show going with its tangy smoothness. The coffee tasted a little scalded, but I needed the caffeine. Not horrible food here, but not great service. Not reccommended. read more

I have to say I like this place a lot. When you walk in it you get this homey feeling. Kind of like walking into a friend's house. You are greeted with a cheerfulness. Now be warned this isn't any upscale place but it's friendly, warm and most of all clean. You place your order at the counter and the choices are quite acceptable from full cook breakfasts to bagels and sandwiches. Plus prices are really within budget. I am a huge fan of their everything bagel and Garlic bagel. Both are so yummy. Once the order is placed you get your drink and sit. They bring your meal to you whether it's dine-in or take out. Personally I love eating in as I really feel they have some of the best coffee and like to enjoy a second cup. I will say the bagels are really good here not dry and hard but warm and delicious. The place has new owners but the product is still excellent. Lots of good bagel options in Gainesville and this should be on everyone's list. A toasted ET bagel with fried egg (not nuked), cheese and a meat choice plus potatoes and fruit with coffee. What's not to like. Please give Bageland a try and you will be pleased. read more

Grew up coming here with my dad and was excited to go back even though there are different owners now. I ordered a cheese and tomato omelette with an onion bagel, fruit and potatoes. After clarifying my order 3 times, it was still wrong when it came out. There were no tomatoes in my omelette and they were on top of my bagel. The potatoes were cold and our food took ages to get to the table. The only thing I was satisfied with was the coffee. Don't waste your money just cook at home. read more

Bageland is the kind of place you expect to find in a college town. It's been there forever, the food is good, the prices are absolutely phenomenal. My husband and I both had bagels, fruit, potatoes, and coffee for $11. We were served quickly and the food was fresh, hot, and tasty. The coffee was just okay but better than their competition. I found the service to be unremarkable (good or bad). The only things I would like to comment on are the location (in the back of Thornebrook plaza) and the interior of the restaurant. If I didn't know any better, I would think it was a bit dirty. Both the dining area and the kitchen area were cluttered, dated, and unappealing. I'm pretty sure there was a projector tv in there...They are due for an upgrade. Regardless of my criticism, we will be back when we visit Gville for some tasty, cheap bagels. read more

The bagels where average but considering I am currently in central Florida that's actually good. Worst service I've ever experienced at a small bagel shop. The employee Angel was aggressive and seemed a bit agitated with simple questions about the menu. The lox bagel was made with large white onions on their yelp they show red onions but she insisted it's always been made with white onions. The tomatoes were sliced so large that you couldn't bite the sandwich. The everything bagel tasted at least a day old and the veggie spread was very watery. The cream cheese was not spreadable and I watched as Angel tried to spread it by putting her weight onto her hand which caused the bagel to have huge holes in it and the cream cheese was then left in globs in the hole. The other employee young girl was very pleasant and tried to help. We were unable to eat the food and had to throw it out. read more

Unprofessional and impolite. Lox bagel had giant white onion slices more fitting for a hamburger, as opposed to traditional red onion shown on their photos and what is always used for lox bagel. The atmosphere here was nice, Thornbrook village is a very beautiful all be it old school Gainesville location. The bagels however were not very impressive. I don't know if we just showed up too late or what happened but it was only 10:45 ish in the morning and the variety of bagels were slim. I ordered the everything bagel and it seemed more like a plain bagel. There was nothing particularly terrible about the restaurant or the experience but overall it was just underwhelming. In a pinch I'd go again if I just really wanted a fresh bagel , but there are other restaurants that just make em better. read more

I had driven past Bageland for many years, just thinking that all they serve is bagels, by the name. Not knowing that the bagels were made in house, and that they are large pillowy rings from heaven. Not only is the base dough used the perfect texture and flavor, there are so many flavors offered. Even low calorie versions of both bagels and cream cheeses. My favorite is the spinach bagel with the artichoke cream cheese, yes please. Even during breakfast hours, my Mom swears by their lobster/crab bisque. Damn it is good at any time of day. They offer breakfast sandwiches and full breakfast plates, made fresh to order. There is plenty of seating inside, a bar by the front window, and some nice tables outside. Any place in the Thornbrook area of Gainesville is difficult to dislike. The entire vibe is awesome and full of families and edumatcated folk. read more

I've been eating here off and on over the last few years, sometimes on a weekly basis. I generally stick with a bagel and cream cheese, but sometimes will come in for the Vietnamese dishes on Tuesday and Thursday. I've tried a variety of their bagels, but they all taste rather plain to me. The only bagel that has a little more character is their everything bagel, but often times has a burnt flavor to it. The staff and owners are personable and provide quick service. If you're looking for a place to grab a quick bite for breakfast or lunch, you can get in and out of here in no time. Bageland is tucked away in Thornebrook Village across from the Atrium. I find the atmosphere of this bagel shop relaxing and welcoming. The architecture is a bit interesting, and the decor ranges from family photos to old art posters. While the decor is disjointed, it does provide a bit of warmth and personality to this location that I do enjoy. So to sum it up, good service, nice location, and fast & cheap okay food. read more

If there was one thing they could do to help their patrons visit more often it would be to be able to do phone orders easier with a new website or at least an accessible menu. Bageland is a classic bagel shop in Gainesville (adding Thornebrook clarifies the location, but I'm pretty sure that the complete name is Bageland). This restaurant may be sold by the owners!!! In July 2019, when I went there, I was alarmed to see a handwritten large sign in the window, "For Sale," with contact info. A member of the family that owns it told me that they're getting older and want to be free. (I may be paraphrasing.) They used to have a classic location just a block north of UF, but that's been gone since the early 2000's (or earlier?). Meanwhile, this sister shop was opened by the same family around the late 1980's or early 1990's. They have the best pumpernickel bagels. Even if I find bagels in NYC, I would expect them to live up to the standard set by Bageland. Their most popular type of bagel seems to be Cinnamon Raisin. I like that they offer wheat bagels. In the past, they even tried carrying 'bran' bagels, although I doubt that these were popular. Today, I got a sandwich for the first time, a 'spicy black bean' veggie burger, on pumpernickel. The sandwich featured thick melted provolone cheese Interestingly, I was thinking of writing a Yelp review, but taking a picture didn't occur to me until after I'd eaten it all! The presentation was good. The sandwich was good, with a veggie burger that seemed possibly made in store (not frozen), along with sprouts and cucumber. I wasn't loving the sprouts, but they are, um, healthy. Also I enjoyed the fresh piece of cantaloupe and thin slice of watermelon on the side (the orange slice was OK). I did take a couple quick pics of the front of the business, which I may try to post this weekend. Interesting history: I went to elementary school who sort of has a connection to the family that owns Bageland. For a while, he even worked there. When I saw him once at a holiday party around 1998, he invited me to join him the next morning (at 5 a.m.) to see how he makes the bagels in the morning! It was already late in the evening. I didn't make it, not even close. As tired as I would have been, though, now I regret missing that opportunity. I'm happy to report that my old classmate ate their yesterda. I hope that if/when Bageland's owners sell that they find someone ((or another family)) who wants to keep this classic Gainesville fixture going. read more

I was on my way to valdosta, Georgia early in the morning and needed something quick for breakfast. I got off the highway and decided to give this place a try. I only get good bagels when I go to nyc. Well this place comes pretty close. I ordered a cinnamon raisin bagel with butter and a cinnamon raisin with cream cheese. It was just right . There is no such thing as a bad breakfast or lunch at Bagelland! Phimon and Debbie bake them fresh every day starting at 4 AM so when they open everything is fresh - no shortcuts ever. The couple and daughter Malie always have a smile and a regular like me feels like he's arriving at "Cheers" because my order is being readied as soon as I walk in. I'm super disappointed and I hate to review a place based on one visit and I may have just been unlucky. It was a nice location and atmosphere...I wish I could have handled this privately like through a message but I can't find that option. So here it goes...I am up at 3am (almost mow 4) as when I had a ham classic sandwich on an onion bagel (the toasted bagel was really hard but other than that nothing special) and about 30min to 1hr later, I had a really bad stomach ache. It must have just been a bad ingredient in the bagel sandwich or the fruits. I felt so ill that I had to throw up around 3pm and just experienced the other end 12hrs later. I'm sorry to say this is the culprit of the minor yet painful discomfort as I ate the same thing as my husband the evening before and my infant son in the morning and they are both fine. Sleep and being healthy is a necessity for me now and it was not fun or needed pain for paying almost $7 a sandwich combo, when I only asked for the sandwich too. You know, I've had to meet at Bageland many a time with my pharmacy preceptor, and though I have not *technically* eaten here, I feel like I should still review this place based on its local flavor. Bageland is located ALL the way in the back of Thornebrook Plaza. Close parking can be a bit scarce at times, but there is plenty of parking in general for the plaza so you can walk there quickly. The inside has booths and tables and is very chill. The menu looks amazing, but I've only ordered cinnamon raisin and plain bagel chips, soda and hot chocolate ($0.69, $1.50, $1). So affordable! And the chips are crazy good, especially cinnamon raisin. And bagels are only 80 cents. Seriously, you can't even buy a donut for that price nowadays! When I go here, I set up a laptop and go over things with my preceptor and have never been asked to move or leave because I wasn't chowing down on some eggs benedict (which would be considerably awkward to do in front of my preceptor). So basically I give this place 4 stars for being cool with people like me who need a place to meet up, for being affordable, and having a cool feel to it. One day, Bageland, I will patron you for a sandwich or two! read more
