I usually love this place for the bagels but today I was totally appalled by the service. The shop states that it closes at 1:45. I walked in at 1:40 and was refused service. I asked for a shroom bagel and was told by the lady attendant that they no longer are making sandwiches. So then I asked for a bagel with butter and was refused service again. Tough act to follow coming from Silver Spring recently where good, New York style bagels are plentiful, Bagel And... is a decent place to go. Small and busy. The employees behind the counter are definitely not loving what they are doing and twice we've had our orders messed up and when we bring them up to get them fixed there is some attitude and discord in the back about whose fault it is. In the end it's convenient, a decent bagel, good choices of toppings and we'll be back. The price for my bagel with lox combo is a bit higher than I am used to paying but the ingredients are quality and plentiful. I just bought a bagel with flavored cream cheese to go. Including tax, it came to $3.05 which rocked me a little. You can get a bagel and a large coffee at most places for that much. Anyhow, it ended up being one of the worst bagels I've ever had. It truly tastes as if it was made yesterday and has been sitting in the basket all day - - this is at 7am. My first judge of any place that sells bagels is whether a non-onion bagel tastes like onions (i.e. they don't properly clean the kitchenware between making onion bagels and other flavors). Unfortunately, this place has failed on multiple occasions over the past decade. The pricing varies from good for a sandwich (less than $5) to poor for a bagel with cream cheese (over $3). Service is lacking as others have noted but the major issue I have encountered is that they have trouble taking your order (a simple order like a plain blueberry bagel or whether it should be toasted or not). I love that this is a family business and would like to see it succeed but an inferior product, inferior service, and a high price for basic items makes it difficult. Being a family business, I'll keep trying on occasion in hopes that things improve. read more

The bagels and toppings are all good here. But here's the problem: the frontline employees are constantly on their phones texting or whatever else. Then they serve your food, without washing up. So, you know how disgusting cell phones are, right? Gross. The long time chef makes a wonderful sandwich, the owner is lackadaisical and usually just hovering around, the place is not known for its service and the environment has, well, it appears to have never been updated. One quible I have with the place, and this usually only happens with the owner is ringing me up, is that I will be verbally quoted 1 total and then he will wind up charging me an additional 20 cents or so. This is a small amount but the trust is broken. While I am not going to argue the quality of the bagels (they are good)...I am going to complain about the people who own and work in this place. In simple terms...these people are just miserable! I have been in this place a dozen or so times and every time I have left...I've been stunned at how unfriendly they are. I once saw them make a guy wait in line and order his food before they would give him the key to the bathroom. Unfortunately I don't eat here anymore! So I used to love this place but it's been a while since I've been in there. Went this afternoon about a half hour before closing. Let me first say, I still love the bagels. They're yummy and they give you a lot of cream cheese which I like, which is why they're getting 3 stars instead of 1 or 2. However the service in here is definitely lacking. I get you close in a half hour, but I'm hungry and it won't take 30 minutes for you to fix or me to consume a bagel. I expect to be greeted politely whether it's 30 minutes to closing or 3 hours. Of the three ladies working, not one cracked a smile, thanked me for coming in, welcomed me, nothing. Instead they all seemed to be irritated I was in there. Let me note, a significant number of people came in at the same time or after me. I got my coffee, ate my bagel and left with 15 minutes to spare. Been coming here for a couple years now. Usually it's for Saturday morning family breakfast. Very small dining area but we have never had issues with getting a table even with bringing our infant daughter. My wife and I really enjoy our Bagels with cream cheese and Nova locks. It usually takes no more than 5-10 minutes to get your order and believe me thats not bad considering how crowded it can get. They are located in the old strip shopping center in Parole off of West Street. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a quick bite to eat. read more

This is the only bagel place I go to. They're quick and always have a large variety of bagels to choose from. You can order them plain, toasted with cream cheese, butter or hummus, or you can choose from several different breakfast sandwiches on the menu. I'm partial to the New Yorker (nova lox, cream cheese, tomato and sprouts) but I have tried other sandwiches and they've all been delicious. Best bagels around...just as I remember from 25 years ago when I worked here. They legitimately boil their bagels prior to baking them. The Nova might be my death row meal. I get it on a toasted everything bagel, plain cream cheese, smoked salmon--it is literally perfect. I have to restrain myself from suggesting getting lunch there every day of the week at work. I like that this place is no frills; they're fast, the space is small, you get in and get out. I always get the jalapeno bagel with egg and cheese... always in the morning on the way to work. I find the staff to be friendly but professional, taking orders and serving in an efficient manner. The texture of the bagels is superb! Crispy outside and chewy center... not like the bready stuff from the grocery store. I also enjoy the jalapeno bagel with veggie cream cheese... the veggie cream cheese is full of chunks of onion, pepper, etc, not the pureed stuff at the store. The staff is nice here, but they are pretty slow making your bagel/bagels. The bagel sand witches are very good. I had a bacon, egg, and cheese for breakfast. It was delicious. Also, I had a ham bagel sand witch for lunch. This was very good. They have barely any seating though, so if you want to go to a sit-in place I wouldn't recommend here. But if you want a place where you can grab your bagel and go this is the place for you. read more

My husband and I stopped in here for bagels to go this morning. The place was dead. There was no line, so we walked right up to the counter. My husband ordered the Southern while I was still looking over the menu. It took me a minute to decide on the Vegetarian bagel. The man, David, behind the counter taking our order asked, "What kind of bagel would you like it on?" And I said, "I don't know." with a smile. So, I stepped back to look at the bagels in the display. Right then three people walked in behind us. David then said to me, "If you can't tell me a bagel, I am going on to these three people." SERIOUSLY! I have never had anyone say that to me before. It wasn't busy. I wasn't taking up his time or anyone else's. I did tell him I wanted the garlic bagel. We paid and left. Ordered a grilled cheese with tomato on white bread to go. Saw the girl with the tongue stud appear to write down the order and give it to the guy with the large discs in his ear lobes. Don't know if she couldn't write or he couldn't read, but when I got back to the office and unwrapped it it found they had given me a grilled cheese sandwich on wheat bread and no tomato!! I have lived and dined in Annapolis for more than 20 years and I have never been treated as rudely by a restaurant owner as I was yesterday at Bagels and. My boyfriend and I dined in for a late breakfast (we shared a breakfast sandwich and a bagel toasted with butter - both very average) and we had barely poured the last drop of orange juice down our throats when the owner of Bagels and came up to our table and very loudly told us that he "needed" our table. It's "Sunday at the bagel shop" he said so "I'll need your seats now"...everyone in the restaurant turned to look at us and you could see that they felt bad for us by the looks on their faces. Did I miss something? When did it become OK to kick paying customers out of your restaurant because you simply don't have the space? We were in the restaurant for a total of perhaps 15 minutes and I can promise you those will be the last 15 minutes I ever spend at this establishment. Recommendation? Go anywhere else for your morning bagel. This food isn't worth the attack that comes along with it. read more

I don't know why it's taken me so long to try this place! I was craving a really good bagel and thought I'd go ahead and try this place. I had no idea before reading Yelp that it was so good. I ordered an onion bagel with cream cheesea and coffee and my husband got the Northerner on a Jalapeno bagel. We were both impressed with how fast the service was and the enormous selection of bagels! We got our food really fast and were able to snag a seat in the small cafe. Our bagels were so fresh, crispy on the outside and extremely soft, warm, and chewy on the inside. I was absolutely delighted. Next time I will try one of their sandwiches. Annapolis is really lucky to have such a great bagel eatery in our city. read more

I was a regular customer going almost every morning before work, and anytime the owner helped me, he was always very short and rude to me. As for the other employees, some are very nice, but some are also rude and short. My Husband and I decided to try this "Bagel's And" out... The first time we went we absolutely loved it. Second time we ordered a "New Yorker" which is lox, cream cheese and spouts on an everything bagel. My husband ordered a cinnamon raisin bagel with strawberry cream cheese. We get all the way home to find out we have a "New Yorker" on a cinnamon raisin bagel. Now I don't know who would eat lox & sprouts on a cinnamon raisin bagel but certainly not me. We figured it was a innocent mistake. So we let it go. Third time we ordered a cinnamon raisin bagel with strawberry cream cheese and another "New Yorker" on an everything bagel...which once again is suppose to have plain cream cheese, lox, and sprouts. To our surprise when we get all the way on the other side of town, open the bag and we find an everything bagel with strawberry cream cheese, no New Yorker??? Now I don't know what or who would eat an everything bagel with strawberry cream cheese??? Not us. This place has horrible listening skills for understanding and taking orders... Not to mention charging folks money for something they do not receive. I really wanted to support a local business instead of the dime a dozen Dunkin Donuts... But "Bagel's And" you lost me. Oh no...please don't tell me that I woke up this morning and completely lost my sense of taste. Probably not, but if Bagels And has modified their 30-year old whitefish salad recipe my sense of direction will truly be lost forever. I just got home with my usual purchase at Bagels And on West St., fresh bagels and whitefish salad that I've been buying since the mid 80's. And FYI, I've been eating smoked whitefish and smoked whitefish salad from some of the best bagel and deli restaurants from Brooklyn, NY to Baltimore, MD for the past 40 years. Smoked whitefish is one of the most distinctive tastes you'll ever enjoy and you know immediately when it's good...until this morning. Dave, we were loyal to Charlie from day one and we'd like to do the same for you. Please check out what happened to the whitefish salad today and don't let anyone convince you that it's fine or that the recipe needed a tune-up.
