Best banh mi I may have ever had and at least the best I hold in memory. This is sampling between LA, Portland, and Seattle. I went for the #2 ("daring" if I recall right?) and it was just right. Banh mis often tend on the drier side but this had all the right sauciness. Also got the shrimp and pork salad rolls and they were excellent with the peanut sauce. We were just passing through Corvallis on our way from Portland to Eugene. The service is super friendly, fast, cheap, and delicious!

I'm not generally inclined towards fawning, five-star reviews. The way I figure it, five stars means there's no room for improvement, and few restaurants or merchants can claim that. Still, everything I've eaten at Baguette has been more or less flawless, so what else can I do? I have eaten my share of banh mi, and usually they're not among my favorite Vietnamese offerings. Baguette makes the bread itself just as it should be, light, crunchy, and flavorful, with just the right amount of meats, carrots, cilantro, and sauce so each bite succulent and moist without being drippy. Vegetarian or vegan? No problem -- the tofu and gluten options are substantial and satisfying, great choices even for meat eaters. The pork bao are as good as I've had anywhere and far better than most; the biggest downside is that they're pretty big and you're still likely to get two because they're so damn good. On the next trip, I may try to resist the bao so I can try the soup. Nah, who are we kidding? I'll get the bao to go. You should, too. read more

Their wheat gluten sandwich is perfection. The service is always amazing, and they take effort to get to know your order, even if you've only been in a few times. My husband and I always find ourselves craving it on a Sunday, and unfortunately they aren't open. A sandwhich shop that offers TWO vegetarian (easily turned vegan) options is a-okay in my book, especially when those sandwiches are delicious and not your average "salad in a bun" sandwiches. These sandwiches are delicious. I've tried three so far and loved each variation. The bread is awesome, the shredded vegetables are delish, etc. etc. They offer aboud 10 sandwiches that are all minor variations on the same thing, so they serve them up quick and cheap. $4.25 for one of the best lunches I've had recently. The beef sandwich with the hint of curry flavor is my favorite so far. Hardly can resist picking up a steamed bun too. Also, the parking spaces out front require you to feed the meter machine. Who really cares if this place is authentic, anyway? With all due respect to my fellow Yelpers, I couldn't give a fleeting damn about the authenticity of this place, because the sandwiches are really good. Very good, and very VERY reasonable. The bread is nice and warm, and the sandwiches are yummy with tastes that you're just not going to get at a Subway or your neighborhood deli. The place seems to be one of those that is either empty or jam-packed. I've had to give up on this place at lunch because there was no place to sit, and then then next day had the entire restaurant to myself. The service is pretty light but friendly, and while this place doesn't have all of the creature comforts of some trendier spots, it's just fine for a bite and a conversation over lunch. You know a place is good when a guy walks back in two minutes later and tells the lady working that he accidentally took a bite of his girlfriends sandwich and wants that. True story! Coworker and I stopped in as I was craving some Vietnamese. The Beef lemongrass bahn mí is delicious! The other reviews don't lie. It's not spicy hot, has all the right kick that you'd get from anything with lemongrass. My only complaint is that the crust of the bread doesn't have that delightful crunch that you typically find in a bahn mí elsewhere. Good food though! read more

My favorite place to eat in Corvallis. The food is consistently good, the service is genuine, and the prices can't be beat. Amazing value for what they serve. I always get the sautéed chicken on wheat bread, and I find myself craving it quite often! It's a big serving for the price, not to mention the meat is always tender, perfectly spiced, and moist, and the veggies are very slightly spicy. The owner is also the sweetest, and the place is a great atmosphere for students and families. I recommend this place whenever I have friends in town. read more

Ignore the previous reviewer from Tualatin who says it is not authentic. I drive from Eugene just to go here. The family that runs it is incredibly nice and their food is all home-made. They make their own bread and pate and everything else. I have been to Vietnam and I don't remember having a sandwich this good. The bottom line is that the food is incredibly fresh and the attention to detail is amazing. I begged the owners for a year to open one in Eugene and there is no way they could unless they could clone themselves. I like the veggie sandwich the best. You can get it with jalapeno peppers for some kick and it is full of veggie pates that are unlike anything I have ever tasted. The warm chewy bread is perfect. The prices are cheaper than Subway. No kidding! Eugene has nothing like this place so if you are in Corvallis or passing through check it out! read more

The sandwiches are not authentic enough. Maybe this is what has to happen in Corvallis for survival reasons but seriously, these sandwiches are Americanized in a major way. Edible, fresh ingredients, friendly service but if you know what the real thing tastes like you'll feel a little sad as you munch on your sando. I still am blown away that I asked for Sriracha and they didn't have any... my salad rolls were super lonely without said hot sauce. :( read more

While visiting my daughter (an OSU student), she told me about this place. Coming from Silicon Valley, where the Vietnamese community is the largest in all of California, I have eaten my share of banh mi sandwiches. This place did not disappoint. Being in Corvallis, where the Vietnamese community is sparse, you cannot come any closer to some authentic Vietnamese food. Their sandwiches are stuffed. You get your money's worth. I've only been to this little sandwich place twice but it gets 5 stars from me. Why? Because it tastes delicious, it's food you can't find anywhere else in Corvallis, and the service is great. I've had both the baguette and the pork buns. Everything is filling but not overwhelming. Plus they've got great drinks to go along with your food. Oh, and it's cheap. Real cheap. The only complaint I have is that sometimes there isn't seating available. There are three tables with two seats each as well as an outdoor table. Definitely in my top 3 places to eat in Corvallis. I can't even count how many times I've been here. Don't be intimidated by the term "vietnamese sandwiches"... they're super delicious! My favorite is the Soya, but I also love the Curry Tofu. My husband likes the Lemongrass Beef a lot. Bread is fresh and soft, but they run out of wheat bread pretty quickly. The sandwiches are big, filling, uber tasty, and cheap ($6-ish). We brought some friends here from SLC who had never heard of Viet sams (as we call them), and they liked it so much that as soon as they got home to Utah they immediately went on a search for them. These are seriously the best sandwiches ever. My only issue is that they don't have a location in Reno also! Do yourself a favor and go here asap. read more

Corvallis isn't a haven of great asian food, but this place provides a fabulous twist on getting a sandwich. For about $5 I got a tasty thing called the "daring" sandwich. The baguette bread loaf gives a good feeling of fullness in the stomach, while the fresh veggies standard with vietnamese food made me feel like I was making a healthy choice. When the counter help has trouble understanding my mumbly english, I get a good feeling. Like this place may be making something special. And here I was right. Really good, no frills food. They could charge a $1.00 more the sandwiches and it would still be a good deal. Stuffed full of meat and in my case, cilantro, you know you are getting a deal. A great lunch option that pairs fresh bread and ingredients with quick preparation to spare you enough time to walk to one of the several coffee shops to grab a cup of joe during your lunch break. This place is cheap and delicious, my favorite combination! Order anything, as far as I can tell you can't go wrong. My favorites are the sandwiches with pork pate; I love the way the hint of creaminess complements the crunchy carrots and fresh cilantro. Don't forget to request fresh jalapenos if you like some heat. The pork steamed buns are really good too, but I was quite surprised when I bit in and realized there was a small hard-boiled egg inside (probably a quail egg? I'm not sure). They seem to be made fresh, which is cool! The salad rolls are also a tasty treat. If you are trying Baguette out for the first time, keep in mind there there is VERY limited seating (two tables for two). First trip was okay. Second was great! First time I got the combo thingy- with ham & whatnot. Second time we got the lemongrass grilled beef or something like that, and some chicken garlic one. Salad rolls. Salad rolls were amazing! Huge, plenty of cilantro. Sandwiches were delicious. The bread is softer than most banh minh places, but super fresh. I actually like the softness. Meat is a bit untraditional, but I am a fan. Overall, great place. Especially for corvallis. I will return, and probably make this a regular stop. A bit more spendy than some banh places. But it is the only one in town, and I think the sandwiches are more filling- shorter than the usual baguette, but more hardy. read more

This is my favorite place to get lunch in Corvallis. I go here almost every Friday and get a sandwich and their hot Thai coffee. I like all their sandwiches but the lemongrass beef is my favorite. Baguette is the first place I go when I'm home from college. Not only are the owners very friendly -- they recognize me by now -- but this is definitely the best cheap lunch in Corvallis. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. I suggest skipping down the baguette menu and trying the shumai, curry beef, or beef lemongrass. These tend to have more flavor and no Vietnamese cold cuts (not always popular). The shrimp spring rolls are great, and the peanut sauce side is to die for. Even the pork humbao is another good side. And of course, the Thai iced tea completes a perfect lunch. Each sandwich is around $6.00, and the rolls or humbao are $3.00-4.00. Usually plenty of seating, but sometimes a little crowded around lunch time. read more

Excellent food at an excellent price; you just can't beat it. The bread is all FRESH (I was once given the option to wait 5 min to have some fresh out of the oven. WORTH IT). I usually order the curry beef sandwich, which is excellent. My only negative comment is that they have bottled soda instead of fountain. Hands-down the best lunch deal in town IMO. Baguette is probably my favorite sandwich shop in Corvallis. It's a small Vietnamese sandwich place with very limited seating (three tables), so expect to get your food to go. Conveniently, there are benches and picnic tables one block down the street (along the river). I believe Baguette is the only place in town where you can buy bahn mi. They don't have a large menu, but what they offer they do well. Most menu items involve curry, ginger, barbecue or peanut sauce, which, to me, is a great victory for sandwiches. Unless you specify otherwise, all sandwiches come with shredded pickled carrots, cucumbers, cilantro, mayo sauce, soy sauce and mild garlic pepper sauce. They provide fresh jalapenos upon request. You can choose white or wheat baguettes. Every sandwich variety I've tried so far has been excellent (but make sure to hold the mayo, if that's not your thing). The salad rolls with peanut dipping sauce are really tasty. The steamed sweet buns are good too. Not sure about the small egg found in the steamed pork buns though. All sandwiches and salad rolls are around $4, which is a great price for the amount of food you get. The Asian-brand juices, including mango and coconut flavors, are pretty good too. The inside of the business reminds me a little of a stainless steel fortress and features a very clean-looking, open kitchen. The staff is genuinely friendly and pleasant. If Baguette was located closer to OSU I'd definitely eat lunch here every week. They really ought to setup a lunch cart near campus.
