What an amazing and delicious little coffee and bakery place! My gf and I come up to the Phx area a few times a month from Tucson, and always try and find new, local places to patronize. Staying in Mesa, we saw this one on yelp and decided to give it a try. It's a beautiful, good size shop with a ton of seating and other things to do while you enjoy your treats! I got a dirty chai latte and she got the wife's special, and we split a pistachio croissant, each of them being an absolute delight! Kary came out from the back to ask us how everything was and started talking to us about his journey and the community and was extremely appreciative of us supporting his business. He even gave us some more food recommendations for local Asian cuisine, which we will definitely be trying! We cannot recommend this place enough! If you're in the Mesa area, or even willing to drive a bit to support local, come here! You won't be disappointed! read more

I stopped by Bak & Jo to grab a latte since I was in Mesa. The store itself is clean and quite spacious. There is a lot of parking in the area that is free. I wasn't really sure what to get so I ended up going with the Wife's Special Latte, which was around $7. It had an almond and white chocolate flavor to it. The latte was more on the almondy side, which I honestly prefer. It was about medium sweetness for a latte but overall not bad. They did have pastries as well as matcha items, which I would try the next time I am around here. The service was quick and friendly. read more

Let's get the critiques out of the way first. It would've been nice if they offered coffee refills, but that's not a huge deal--I get it. My girlfriend was really excited to try the Banh Mi, but unfortunately, they were out of cold cuts. That's a pretty big miss considering it's one of their featured and presumably popular sandwiches, and it was one of the things she was most looking forward to trying. There was also a rogue child going absolutely nuts in the place. Not the establishment's fault whatsoever, but just a friendly PSA to parents out there: parent your children. I do! Now, on to the good. The place is spacious, clean, and has a really nice overall appearance. The Vietnamese coffee was excellent, and I really enjoyed it. I ordered the bacon croissant. Unfortunately, the bacon itself wasn't anything to write home about, but the sandwich overall was good, and I'm definitely interested in trying the sausage version next time. Everything is freshly prepared and made to order, which I really appreciate. My girlfriend gave her breakfast burrito a 4/5, although she didn't exactly rave about it. One of my favorite little touches was the small bookshelf. I grabbed the Dad Jokes book and proceeded to drive my girlfriend absolutely insane with dad jokes while we ate. So, naturally, I consider that a win. Overall, this place misses the mark in a couple of areas, but I still highly recommend it and will definitely be back. I really appreciate supporting small, family-owned businesses, and you can tell there's genuine effort and pride going into the place. Definitely worth giving them a try. Just maybe call ahead and make sure they actually have the Banh Mi ingredients before you get your heart set on it. read more

If you're on your way to shop at Hmart or Mekong, you have to make a stop at Bak & Jo. It sits alongside a thrift store. Hubs and I came here on a Saturday morning and it wasn't busy. There are many food and drink options to choose from. I ordered a banh mi sandwich with their pork belly and my husband ordered their breakfast sandwich with bacon. Both were prepared in their freshly baked baguettes. Although the pork belly was a bit salty for my taste, I still enjoyed my meal. The Thai tea is on the milkier side but delicious. The ambiance is very inviting and clean. I appreciated the games available for groups and kids to play with. The prices are also very reasonable. We left full and happy. LOVE THIS PLACE TO BITS AND PIECES! Can't complain about their service! The banh mi was awesome and drinks are decent, but I only tried the one lavender matcha (which I am very picky about). I will say that they have an awesome selection of BOOKS, games, and even video games to play on the side which was a lovely surprise. They were tucked away in the corner of a nice little plaza I have always been wondering about and wanting to check out, next to some hobby shops that have always caught my eye but I never treated myself to lurking about so I am very grateful for the chance to finally check this spot out! This is a great little hangout spot. I love that there are tons of board games, pin trading, and casual lounging. During this visit I had a Vietnamese coffee, which was strong and sweet. The pistachio and hazelnut croissants were delicious (obviously since I couldn't get a picture before digging in) and served warm. I have been here just a couple times, so I was having a hard time deciding between some drinks. The gentleman at the register offered a few great suggestions. I love Bak & Jo. I believe the worker's name is Sou, and she is always so sweet. She's always welcoming me in and making my drinks absolutely amazing. The banana bread matcha is my new obsession, and I've been ordering it every time lately. I recommend you get it with oat milk because it makes it taste creamier and is soo soo good!! The service here was exceptional. Jo himself helped us and explained the menu and highlighted his favorites. I noticed several nods to Yelp nominations posted near the register, including something about Yelp Elites loving this place. Jo helped us decide what to order, and we landed on the Banana Bread Matcha (the homemade banana syrup was delicious but the matcha was still quite overpowering and earthy) and the Vietnamese Coffee (very strong but we got half sweet so that might be our fault). We also got a chocolate chip cookie sandwich from a separate baker whose goods they carry. When we got our order, Jo gave us a peppermint "smackaron" on the house. There was a couple lounging on the sofa inside, kids playing with some toys in their little play area, and people working from various tables. Had to find a coffee shop to work at and stumbled upon Bak and Jo when my standard shop closed early. I'm not sad about it. This spot is a clean, classic, welcoming space for people to enjoy good coffee, pastries, and each other. I ordered an iced vietnamese coffee. It was a perfect balance of a delicate sweetness by the strength of the coffee. I wished I ordered a pastry. They have a pistachio crossiant that was trying to lure me through the display case. Yummy breakfast! Delicious Vietnamese baguette, with a nice crunchy outside but really nice and soft on the inside without being hard at all. We tried 3 sandwiches, one bacon, egg, and cheese, one sausage, hash brown, and egg, and one avocado, egg and hash brown. All three sandwiches were great and would definitely recommend! I've had nothing but good food, good coffee, and good vibes from Bak & Jo! The shop has a very chill, inviting atmosphere and the selections here for food and drink are always appealing. There is no extra charge for alternative milks and there are good vegetarian and vegan options available. The tofu scramble is excellent, as well as the mint latte. You can definitely taste the house-made mint syrup and the coffee is super smooth. The tofu scramble has just the right amount of seasoning and you won't miss the egg at all in this breakfast dish. Service has always been very welcoming and friendly. There are several tables available for indoor dining and along the wall there is often local art for sale. read more

The butterfly pea strawberry berry lemonade is so pretty and I felt like I was magical when mixing it making it a pretty pink purple color! 10/10 recommend this lemonade. The place was really unexpected. Tucked away in a plaza in Mesa I found this place. The inside was bigger than expected and mix of minimal but meant for people to hang out at. The staff was nice and explained how they made their drinks. I've had dozens of ube lattes before but asked them to walk through since the menu didn't have descriptions. That's one thing I wish places did, not just here but a lot of other places too. The lady taking my order was super nice and explained it. They do have bakery items and food but I just tried the latte. It was delicious and not sweet. I've had places try to mask the ube flavor with other sugary ingredients but here it was well balanced and pleasant. read more

They have a great selection too. Croissants, sandwiches, desserts, cakes, coffee, tea, and even a little gaming area. The whole place feels really welcoming and community oriented. I loved all the Polaroids of happy customers around the shop. It gives the place so much personality. Even though I walked in right at 7 AM, the woman working was incredibly kind and helpful. We decided to try this place this morning but only for takeout. I looked up breakfast near me and found them. Called to confirm the hours because every place I checked showed something different. They were open until 2:00pm today so my husband picked up breakfast and some pastries. We were going to go for the egg burrito with vegan sausage but they asked my husband why he wanted the vegan sausage and so they suggested the beef meatball since we were not try to be vegan, we are just avoiding pork. My husband got two croissants also, chocolate almond and pistachio croissant. The burrito was humongous! I struggled to finish it so I left some. There was definitely no space left for the croissants so I will be trying them later. The burrito had cheese, potatoes, eggs, avocados and pico. We added the meatball. It was served with a nice spicy dipping sauce. It complimented the burrito really well. The prices are average. We got two coffees in addition to the food and the total $51. I got an almond milk latte. It was not my favorite. In their defense, not all coffees taste good with almond milk, so it really depends from one place to another. I ordered the matcha latte, and when they walked our drink to us, they even told us to try it and let them know if they needed to adjust the sweetness. Some of the best matcha I've had since visiting Uji. Most places mess up the ratio of milk to powder in a matcha latte, but you absolutely get what you pay for here. You can tell by the taste, color, and texture that they're using some pretty good stuff. I also loved the banh mi burrito, Thai tea, and macarons! Everything save for the baked stuff was made to order. I'll have to go back to try their pastries some time. The staff were very chill and welcoming, and the vibe was great inside with board games, a Christmas tree decorated with hand-drawn ornaments, and plenty of seating (including a very comfortable couch). Great food and drinks paired with a great atmosphere, absolutely something Mesa has long needed. This was a really nice Vietnamese coffee shoot to visit if ur in Mesa! The staff is really nice and they had a Mario kart event going on.
