Vietnamese Coffee with vanilla cold foam
    Ariel S.

This is a great little hangout spot. I love that there are tons of board games, pin trading, and casual lounging. During this visit I had a Vietnamese coffee, which was strong and sweet. The pistachio and hazelnut croissants were delicious (obviously since I couldn't get a picture before digging in) and served warm. I have been here just a couple times, so I was having a hard time deciding between some drinks. The gentleman at the register offered a few great suggestions. The people here are so friendly!

The service here was exceptional. Jo himself helped us and explained the menu and highlighted his favorites. I noticed several nods to Yelp nominations posted near the register, including something about Yelp Elites loving this place. Jo helped us decide what to order, and we landed on the Banana Bread Matcha (the homemade banana syrup was delicious but the matcha was still quite overpowering and earthy) and the Vietnamese Coffee (very strong but we got half sweet so that might be our fault). We also got a chocolate chip cookie sandwich from a separate baker whose goods they carry. When we got our order, Jo gave us a peppermint "smackaron" on the house. There was a couple lounging on the sofa inside, kids playing with some toys in their little play area, and people working from various tables. Plenty of space for everyone to enjoy themselves.

Had to find a coffee shop to work at and stumbled upon Bak and Jo when my standard shop closed early. I'm not sad about it. This spot is a clean, classic, welcoming space for people to enjoy good coffee, pastries, and each other. I ordered an iced vietnamese coffee. It was a perfect balance of a delicate sweetness by the strength of the coffee. I wished I ordered a pastry. They have a pistachio crossiant that was trying to lure me through the display case. The staff are friendly and our order came very quickly. This may be my new spot to work at.

Super friendly atmosphere, great selection of fresh food and great ingredients. The fresh best cookies and pastries!! We had a wonderful time with games for the whole family. We're from CA and hope to be back when we are in town. Thank you for great hospitality!!

    Tofu banh mi

Seriously amazing as always! I don't live super close so I don't make it out here as often as I'd like, maybe once a month, but I LOVE it. My favorite is their tofu banh mi. The spicy mayo/tofu is SO GOOD. I also love the normal pastries and the gluten free goodies. I had a pb&j macaron today that was to die for. Also the workers here are SO nice. I just love this place!

Mint latte with macadamia nut milk

I've had nothing but good food, good coffee, and good vibes from Bak & Jo! The shop has a very chill, inviting atmosphere and the selections here for food and drink are always appealing. There is no extra charge for alternative milks and there are good vegetarian and vegan options available. The tofu scramble is excellent, as well as the mint latte. You can definitely taste the house-made mint syrup and the coffee is super smooth. The tofu scramble has just the right amount of seasoning and you won't miss the egg at all in this breakfast dish. Service has always been very welcoming and friendly. There are several tables available for indoor dining and along the wall there is often local art for sale.

    Ube Latte

The place was really unexpected. Tucked away in a plaza in Mesa I found this place. The inside was bigger than expected and mix of minimal but meant for people to hang out at. The staff was nice and explained how they made their drinks. I've had dozens of ube lattes before but asked them to walk through since the menu didn't have descriptions. That's one thing I wish places did, not just here but a lot of other places too. The lady taking my order was super nice and explained it. They do have bakery items and food but I just tried the latte. It was delicious and not sweet. I've had places try to mask the ube flavor with other sugary ingredients but here it was well balanced and pleasant.

Butterfly pea strawberry lemonade and oreo/ube macron
    Teresa A.

The butterfly pea strawberry berry lemonade is so pretty and I felt like I was magical when mixing it making it a pretty pink purple color! 10/10 recommend this lemonade. I would get it again for sure. The employees are really nice and helpful when trying to make a decision. The macrons are super cute and tasty and my friend and I shared a blueberry muffin and it tasted so buttery good warm. Thanks for a great experience!

Burrito with bacon, the sauce is great!

This place is scrumptious. The staff is friendly and helpful with questions to make sure the food was exactly what you need. I like going here because my vegan sister also has great options. This is a must.

Wow! This place is super cool! Walking in the vibe is super chill the cafe is beautiful and everyone is super friendly. One of the workers even brought me my drink! I tried the strawberry matcha lemonade with extra matcha and 10/10 will be back. I've been looking for another matcha shop so I'm really glad to have found this!

Egg Burrito with an all beef meatball
    Abir L.

We decided to try this place this morning but only for takeout. I looked up breakfast near me and found them. Called to confirm the hours because every place I checked showed something different. They were open until 2:00pm today so my husband picked up breakfast and some pastries. We were going to go for the egg burrito with vegan sausage but they asked my husband why he wanted the vegan sausage and so they suggested the beef meatball since we were not try to be vegan, we are just avoiding pork. My husband got two croissants also, chocolate almond and pistachio croissant. The burrito was humongous! I struggled to finish it so I left some. There was definitely no space left for the croissants so I will be trying them later. The burrito had cheese, potatoes, eggs, avocados and pico. We added the meatball. It was served with a nice spicy dipping sauce. It complimented the burrito really well. The prices are average. We got two coffees in addition to the food and the total $51. I got an almond milk latte. It was not my favorite. In their defense, not all coffees taste good with almond milk, so it really depends from one place to another. Overall a good place worth trying!

    Spacious with plenty of seating!

Bak & Jo is one of those places that I bookmarked a while back... and was excited to finally make it to! Service was very friendly - I felt welcomed and the barista was quick and helpful in answering my questions! I loved that they offered a handful of gluten-free options... because so many coffeeshops don't! Went with the peanut butter cookie sandwich - it was HUGE and everything you want your peanut butter cookie to be! I went with a oatmilk vanilla matcha latte... and it was fantastic! The drink comes with two pumps of vanilla, but with my sweet tooth I will have then double that up next time! I was pleasantly surprised to see how large the interior is - I was imagining it to be quite a bit smaller... so I'm excited to say that I found another place to sit and get some work or studying done! Overall rating: *****FIVE STARS***** Gluten-free rating: *****FIVE STARS*****

Thai tea (left), oat milk matcha latte w/o flavoring (right)
    Matteo D.

Some of the best matcha I've had since visiting Uji. Most places mess up the ratio of milk to powder in a matcha latte, but you absolutely get what you pay for here. You can tell by the taste, color, and texture that they're using some pretty good stuff. I also loved the banh mi burrito, Thai tea, and macarons! Everything save for the baked stuff was made to order. I'll have to go back to try their pastries some time. The staff were very chill and welcoming, and the vibe was great inside with board games, a Christmas tree decorated with hand-drawn ornaments, and plenty of seating (including a very comfortable couch). Great food and drinks paired with a great atmosphere, absolutely something Mesa has long needed. I got takeout since it was my first visit, but I could see this becoming my go-to spot to catch up with friends!

I know they're vegetarian, but I wanted to double check with her. She responds as "vegetarian means no meat, right"? All employees working at a food establishment should know what vegetarian means. This was quite baffling to hear. I asked her for a new slice because the one that was out on display was visibly burned and the other slice was touching pepperoni from the meat pizza. As mentioned, I'm a vegetarian. Therefore, I could not have either one of those slices. She proceeds to say that's how the pizzas are. They are slightly burned because they are so sourdough. While I can accept this answer, I do not accept the fact that she would not be willing to give me another slice as a paying customer. She insensitively said she can't give me a new one until all the old slices are taken up. She mentioned that this is their procedure. According to this, they are saying that they will not provide a proper product unless the old, damaged product, or unacceptable by the customer is used up first. If this is their business model, then it is apparent they do not value customer service. This business should have the competence to understand that if they want to sell a product, they cannot sell it in a condition that the customer is not satisfied with. Most importantly, being a vegetarian, they should have the sensitivity to understand that if a slice is touching the meat product then they cannot consume it. And again, the employee completely disregarded my health and religious beliefs by not accommodating me. You usually won't encounter problems when you're just trying to buy bread. However, it reflects on the business's employees greatly when there is a problem and they do not value customer service by resolving or accommodating the customer's satisfaction. I will be switching to Noble exclusively. Especially since it's so readily available at the farmers markets and stores.
