Exploring Auburn today and found this wonderful locally owned place to check out. Unique vibe that is enjoyable. Feels really homey and relaxed here. They staff has been super nice and did not miss a beat in prepping my order and making sure I had everything I need. Food and tea were delivered to my table quickly. Located on the main street through town, the shop is located among other interesting art and even a sidewalk local founder's "walk of fame". Parking wasn't hard nearby even with the weekend visitors. The grilled cheese with bacon was dry tasty. They graciously added tomato for me as well. Iced green tea was a good size and I got two. The house salad was all fresh and I really appreciated the variety of veggies included (some places are cutting out too much). The prices are a little more than one might usually expect, but many places, especially locally owned like this one, need help making up for the last year and a half covid restrictions and closures. Not only am I happy to help, I have already fallen in love with this place. So...explore out there; you never know what you will happen upon. read more

During my brisk sunrise jaunts I adore clicking my heels over to this cafe. I skip to the register and the service here, is no less than remarkable. I like to swap a sawbuck for the boiling vessel of petrol, and I like my mud how I like my cologne. Rich, and flavorful, as if I just licked a tire that's been on a rig rolling coal on the warm asphalt of the interstate. The shimmering oil definition of the premium roast resembles a fantasy I often have, of yours truly bareback, belly pressed against the grass on a sunny day, dale pouring out finely aged oil all over my back. The dazzling sun rays beating down on me, shimmering off my midnight canvas of a spine duct. It's like you don't know you're in the good ol' days, til their gone. I digress, but nevertheless, a mouthful of rubber, aroma of charred popcorn, and the after taste of carcinogen that reminds me of riding around in my grandma's Deville, thick with smoke from her siphoning down cases of Paul malls. Good coffee. Great bagels and sandwiches. Awesome customer service. Guy at the counter told me that they have a "full coffee bar" so one could order any drink variety. They also have suggested hot and cold drinks posted on a blackboard. We ordered the The Rene and Ooverload bagels and both were welcome gustatory treats for us brunch lovers. The bacon on both enhanced the flavor of these sandwiches. For drinks, I got a large Yirgacheffe Ethiopian coffee black and was impressed by the aroma and taste of this African sourced bean. The wife got a suggested Black & White Chocolate latte and she liked the not to sweet blend of this creation. This cafe deserves a repeat visit soon. read more

We stopped in at Baked & Brewed for a light healthy lunch. It's a cute place with a home feel and very friendly service. Even at 30 min before their closing they were busy with lots of young people. It has been 5 years since I've been to this place. I used to frequent this establishment and was glad to see it was still open for business. I was feeling nostalgic so I endeavored to pay Mike a visit. Boy oh boy did I regret it. I had the most absurd experience. The place hadn't changed one bit in my 5 year absence, which was fantastic considering my nostalgic approach. Warm atmosphere, pleasant people, good food. All of that and my respect for Mike and Nancy (who's restaurant I have also been going to for many many years) are the reasons I'm leaving 3 stars. So here's my issue: Customer service isn't just about wearing a smile. While consistent service is very important, the human equation still exists. Mistakes happen, errors are made. What defines us is how we handle those errors. I waited 45 minutes for my to-go order while a dozen people after me were being served. When I approached and informed the server that I simply couldn't wait any longer I was blown away by their reaction. I was thinking I was just going to say "gotta go now, I'll be back tomorrow for my refund." Still not upset. As I said, mistakes happen. I understand. But instead, they simply responded with "waiting for what?" Oof... my order. "What did you order?" Two bagels. "For who?" So I gave my name. "Oh! It's been ready." As she turns around and grabs the bag off the back counter. At this point I became irritated. So I asked them "so I've been sitting here for 45 minutes and it's been ready the whole time?" All this reaction got me was a sideways glance from the one in the kitchen and an "I'm sorry" from the server. No offer for a fresh order, or a refund, or anything whatsoever. So here I stand, now late for work and just handed cold food, expected to be satisfied. It's not like I was creating a scene or acting out or anything, I remained very composed. Not once, for the 45 minutes I sat there 6 feet from away from the register, did this individual think to themselves that maybe I might be waiting for something. Not to mention: YOU took my order. And when my order was up, you didn't think to give it to me, or call out my name? I mean... c'mon... that is rough. It just got shelved. Which is how I felt. Overall, entirely absurd experience. My head was reeling. Mike, I'm sorry my friend, but the apple has fallen very far. You can't teach common sense, and common it was not. read more

I was in the Auburn area and was very happy we stopped by here to grab some bagel sandwiches! 100% recommend. The place itself is very cute and the workers are extremely nice, exactly what you want when stopping at a local coffee/bagel shop in a small town. They are right next to a parking lot which is so convenient since we wanted to grab food to go quickly. All employees were wearing masks and place was kept clean. Great service and great food! We stopped here on our way to check out Foresthill Bridge. I loved their big selection of bagel sandwiches! They're all very affordable too, and super filling. I chose the Rene (spinach, egg, bacon, avocado, jalapeno) on a cheese bagel. It came out sliced in half and ready to eat! It was so yummy and the sandwich doesn't fall apart like some bagel sandwiches. It went perfectly with my iced peach tea. Service was great too, they were all very friendly! I really love baked & brewed- we buy our beans here every week and make an effort to support this local coffee shop. So, it makes me really sad to feel so compelled to write this review... I am super disappointed in the way I saw staff treated this morning. A very sweet, young, female employee was yelled at to "Get back here!" by the owner in a shop full of customers. 1. Super not okay for a boss to do to an employee 2. I stopped here by accident since I parked across the street and decided I didn't want overpriced sushi or middle of the road Mongolian (the places next door) so I stumbled into this spot. After 5 long minutes of looking through their menu (I am bad at decision making) I decided on The Linda which is a sourdough sandwich which can be made vegan by taking off the mayonnaise (also I think the girl working there said that sourdough bread was their only vegan sandwich option - but that was fine with me since I love sourdough). As a vegan I think this place could benefit by adding a few more options for us peeps. Most of their sandwiches I guess have dairy in the bread (or something) and none of the sauces they have are dairy free with the exception of their hot sauce. I opted to replace the mayo with said hot sauce and I was pleasantly surprised! I would have preferred it over the mayo actually. Sandwich was 7.5/10, not as big as I might have wanted for the price, and the lounge area/furniture could probably do for a more modern/chic upgrade BUT the freshness and tastiness of the food along with the kindness of the staff well made up for it. I shall return, probably gonna get the same sandwich again tbh unless they add some more vegan options. Overall experience: 8/10. read more

Really happy with our lunch. I myself am a very picky eater and loved this place. It was a cute little shop and the staff were very nice. The prices are ok, but could be a little cheaper. The place was very clean and spacious tables. Our food was brought out on heavy duty paper plates and our food was delicious. Being the picky one I am, I got a turkey sandwich on sourdough bread. Just the meat and bread. It was very good and was real turkey. My family got bagel sandwiches, sourdough sandwiches, and a salad. We all agreed this was one of the best food we've had for a while. I really recommend coming here sometime. Shame we don't live closer! If we did we would come here a lot more! read more

A good ol' fashion coffee shop. This, please, is a quintessential small town coffee shop with a loyal customer base (likes Luke's from Gilmore Girls). The location is also great for walking around and enjoying downtown Auburn. The service is good and the food is yummy. If you order food, I would suggest asking for FireNine sauce added. read more

To me, this place is overrated. The several times I've been here, the service isn't very welcoming, maybe it's because they have high schoolers working and I think they'd rather be doing something else rather than waiting on customers. The last time I came here, the young girl kept rolling her eyes when I asked for extra time to look over the menu. Thought it was rude but overlooked it in anticipation of having something delicious. After all it's got a Yelp rating of four and a half stars. That was my experience on my my last visit. I've had better visits previously but the food, drinks and ambience always teetered between 2-3?! If I order a latte, I want some Art! Not here. My last visit, I ordered the Paralegal, on a multigrain bagel. Does not say anywhere on the menu that the bagel is toasted. Dude! They toasted the heck outta that bagel that it cut the roof of my mouth! Not ok, plus I waited eternity for that Sammie! Plus, I'm the only order they had!? I'm honestly confused why this doesn't come up with this on google's breakfast searches. They are great. The atmosphere is quirky, I enjoy riding my motorcycles up and have some coffee, sit outside and enjoy the beautiful Auburn downtown. Sit relax and watch the world go by. When I was younger this was a dark bar called the corner pub. The take over and reboot as a bagel place is a huge improvement. The menu offers great vegetarian options, oatmeal for the heart, and some lunch options. For this review I'm reviewing the 'Rene' breakfast bagel. Egg, Bacon, Avocado, spinach and jalapenos - on an everything bagel. Smokey thick cut bacon, soft creamy Avocado this is a great sandwich. I've actually started to mimic this sandwich at home. The nice heat of the jalapenos is scraped off your tongue with the seeds and richness of the bagels. They have a brew bar full of coffees many different types with some fun names; Heart of Darkness, Mokamatra - They even carry a few Single Source Coffees to help unlock your internal Coffee Goofy Goober. They are fun and have very different variances. Laid back casual coffee shop slash diner that I personally prefer over Starbucks, or Dutch Brothers, and the food is 10 times better than a La Bou. A much better place to meet up the motorcycles for a quick jaunt down 49 to the confluence. read more

Fiancé and I wanted a light meal before a hike. We cruised downtown Auburn and saw some people sitting outside so we decided to check it out. The inside is a cute, maybe 20 person seating (which was unfortunately put up due to COVID), but had fun decor. The tomato soup and grilled cheese was on special and it was fantastic! The soup was homemade and tasted fresh. It was light and seasoned well! The grilled cheese was a pretty standard but good! It tasted like something you'd make at home! At the southern edge of downtown Auburn is a funky yellow building at a corner with Baked & Brewed painted between the forest green framing. Sticking out of the whole place is an old olive-green sign states in neon red that this was once the "Corner Pub" with a martini between the words. Matte-grey parasols shade black wire frame chairs and tables at the outdoor area that's also fenced in by a hip-high gate. Beyond the green wooden door is a quaint coffeehouse space of red-orange walls with local art hanging from it, and floral centerpieces dot various tables. It's almost a J-shaped space dominated by comfy chairs with small tables for casual chats, a few wooden tables and chairs, and booths that line the right side of the wall all the way to the back. To the left of the entrance is a small counter where you order your food before hunting down a place to sit. It's more of an built-in window since a food display takes up the right to the cashier, a coffee drip station and list of available brews is to the left, a blackboard menu looms above with specials, and the front is dominated by things to by like tea. Behind that is the kitchen area where they are slinging out breakfast sandwiches. After a brief look over the coffee and sandwich list, I decided on the Hand/Heart of Darkness brew (a dark, sweet brew) and The Claire sandwich (swiss, egg, spinach, bacon, and a slight bit o' mayonnaise on grilled sourdough. I snagged a comfy chair by the window, and after a brief wait my breakfast would come. A standard run-of-the-mill to-go coffeecup housed coffee. Even with my standard 3 seconds of milk and a sugar, this was a full-bodied coffee that leaned more on the thick 'n' bitter side of things; almost like espresso. The sandwich - housed on an off-white ceramic plate with brown bordering - was pretty good. The combination of bitter spinach, smooth egg and swiss, and salty 'n' fatty bacon worked out in a fun balancing act housed between slices of delightfully browned sourdough. The spinach absorbed some of the bacons lovely flavor while the egg took up the salt and gave the cheese some fluff. It's a nice breakfast sandwich that doesn't feel overly heavy. Overall, it's another one of Auburn's better coffeehouses with a side focus on intriguing sandwiches and a large variety of slow-drip coffee types. Note: the coffee here might come after your meal since the way they brew takes a good bit of time. It may feel a tad tight space-wise, but it makes for a great place to relax and hang out with people. It gets a good 4 from me. read more

This was a hard one because we know the restaurant/hospitality industry is suffering big time. And we probably would have really enjoyed this restaurant had they been more compliant with health measures meant to mitigate the virus. From the outside and based on the yelp listing, the restaurant appeared to be exercising an abundance of caution with signage everywhere saying, "No mask, no entry." We found the signage indoor and outdoor, along with the local health guidelines posted up on the wall. My family and I were happy to patron the restaurant that was seemingly being mindful of the spread of the virus. Disappointedly, the woman taking our order did not think it important enough to wear a mask herself while we ordered. Even more disturbing, the COOK was NOT wearing his mask. When we asked the woman at the counter if the cook would be wearing his mask while he prepared our food, she said, "yes he'll be wearing his mask when he brings his food out to you." When my husband directly told her he'd feel more comfortable if he prepared our food with a mask on, she replied with the same exact robotic answer! We were stunned. We went outside to debate whether or not to cancel our order. After some discussion, we decided we'd go in and ask if we can pay for the food he's already prepared and cancel the rest of our order. Two other customers had arrived while we debated, so, in an effort to not cause a scene, we waited for them to order. Just as they finished, the cook, donning a mask just as promised, handed us our order. Too late. We brought our order back outside, put it on the table and sat there completely conflicted. Thinking, this could be it...this is where COVID gets us! Too conflicted and too uncomfortable to touch the food, we left it untouched on the table and left the restaurant, eating only the cost. $50 down the drain... UPDATE (08/07/20): I responded to Jackie's comment in private. I had hoped that since violating Yelp's content guidelines by including our full names, that she might edit her reply. She has not and has now been reported. To summarize the message I sent to Jackie, I thanked her for refunding us partially ($46.98) even without us asking for it. But I didn't think it was fair to ask customers to call, correspond, AND talk. We made an appeal in person, which is always best, but were met with indifference. Our frustration is that the restaurant poses as being Covid-conscious on yelp and with all the signage at the restaurant, but is not in practice. If you are not gonna be a restaurant that masks up, that's your choice, but don't lead customers to believe that you are. Transparency is key so the customer can make the decision for themselves based on comfort levels. We were not comfortable with the cook preparing our uncooked meals (salads and sandwiches) without a mask but our concern was not taken into consideration. read more
