One of my favorite bakery / tea spots of all time. My 5-year-old son and I have loved coming here for years on rainy afternoons for a pot of tea and baked treat. The decor is beautiful and so comfortable. They have a special nook that we love to sit in -- unfortunately this place gets more popular with each passing month and it is more and more rare that our special seat is available. Very quaint, cozy place with friendly staff and a great selection of unique pastries. They take orders at the counter and then bring them to your table, which is odd for such a small place but is a nice touch. I had an iced coffee and a skol brod, which is the closest thing to a Czech kolache I've had in a long time. Soooo delicious. Not a lot of seating, but nice for just a few people to sit for a bit. When it comes to pastries there is nowhere else in Williamsburg I would go. The vegetable tart is to die for but literally everything I have tasted from here - and I have tasted a lot - has been straight up delicious. To top it off, their coffee is also delicious. read more

Heavenly. I've had the bread pudding, the Spanish tortilla, lavender shortbread, and so, so many chocolate rolls. Plus coffee. It's all delicious, I love the hint of spice in chocolate rolls. The back garden is tiny and beautiful. I could spend many, many hours here. read more

the only problem with this place is that it gets too crowded for it's own good...if i come for a relaxing break and the place is swarming, it turns into a to-go order, which i then regret. to stay is the ultimate cafe experience. great baked goods that change daily, sweet decor, ambiance and staff, reasonable prices, healthy food. staff is friendly, unpretentious and stylish too. i love sitting at the long communal table watching the breads and sweets go in and out of the oven. there is a little patio out back for the nice weather and a few seats out front as well. my favorites are the skole, kale sale and latte. i loooove you bakeri read more

just sent this to the bakeri. the skole brod (yeasted bread with custard, light frosting and light covering of coconut flakes) today is praise-worthy! kudos to the baker(s)! --- Eating my skole bread purchased today around 1PM. It is so good. I've gotten it every time it's available when I go to Bakeri. It's had its ups and downs and I wrote once to ask if it was supposed to be made with under a tablespoon of custard and was a little dry. Today the custard was plenty, so much to go around, start to finish. And the bread was so well proofed, and very moist and chewy. THANK YOU!!! Great job to the baker(s)!! read more

I walked in to Bakeri off the street for an iced coffee to-go, and was so enamored with this little place that I ordered food too, and stayed for a while. The interior is small, so I went looking for a spot to sit and discovered their really charming back courtyard. It was a shady green paradise on a hot day, though their koi fish are insanely large and a bit scary when fed. The orange brioche I had was delightful. I'll definitely be back! read more

What a great spot. The ladies serving are friendly, down to earth (rolling out dough right in front of you) and the espresso macchiatto, excellent. The pastries/sweets are unique and delicious and original to boot (try a rosemary chocolate chip cookie or a blueberry & pistacchio muffin). The space is small but lovely on decor (wooden rustic country feel) and there is a cute garden in the back with a fish pond, which most people don't realize. My son bought two pies for thanksgiving- a pear/cherry and an apple. They were mediocre to say the least. For the price they charged per pie I am extremely disappointed. read more

Stopped by to get a cool drink and a little sweets on a Saturday. The place is small with some seating. It's a hot day and the air conditioning is feels great. I tried their raspberry crumble and iced coffee. Both were good and I enjoyed myself. I will definitely come back if I'm every in the area again. I like the staff. They are very friendly. read more

This place is absolutely adorable. I try to stop in at least once a week to get an americano and just enjoy the vibe. The service is great (all the girls are cute and very friendly) Haven't tried any of their baked goods - but I believe their breads are supplied from Sullivan St Bakery, and are top-notch. read more

I remember when this place was St Helen's....at first I was sceptical that Bakeri would even survive given St Helen's reputation...and I even refused to go in there until my sister told me she was obsessed with this apple cider cake of theirs. And then I tried it...O.M.G. Heaven in my mouth. A bit expensive at $4...I decided quick that I can't make this an everyday thing...but that's hard since I live right there... Bottom line= amazing pastries- try the apple cider cake, the brownies and lemon squares. They also offer a litterally bite sized piece for $1. Better than nothing for us poor folk. Also....a small latte is 3.50...you might as well just add another .50 to get the large latte which is a better value. Never tried the sandwiches, looked like something I could make myself...but I always see people buying them. And finally, the interior is really beautiful if you appreciate a vintage 1940s French vibe....plus staff seems okay, as friendly as they can be for a busy bunch I suppose. Yes! Bakeri is a total magical haven from the icky scummy city streets. Its really at it is best in the warm months when you can sit out back in the garden, which has climbing vines and a POND with giant carp fish in it. The lattes are really good, creamy and the larges are served in a big, French style bowl. Points for prettiness. Inside is very small, tall people beware. I love that you can sit and watch the bread being made behind the counter. All the ladies who work there wear blue jumpsuits, and they are nice and helpful. If you want to sit for hours and type away on your computer and spread out, this is probably not the place for you ( tiny tables and no wifi). If you want to escape to the back garden or the wood paneled bakery case, and dream of Europe under a tin pressed ceiling while perfumes of baking bread infiltrate your jaded city senses, then go to Bakeri and sit awhile. read more

Gorgeous cake- peanuts butter and chocolate brownie, and had a bite of lavender shortbread which I think is a genius invention... However the coffee was a bit pants and it was super crowded and a little stifling! It was a Sunday granted... But I don't think it's extraordinary. It's worth it if you like brownies. read more

This place is so cute and kind of tucked away. I came here visiting the Williamsburg Sunday Flea market, which is close by, and really enjoyed it. I had the spelt pistachio raspberry muffin (delicious, although a wee-bit oily), a mini croissant and iced coffee. Loved that the pastries were small so I could try a couple different things. Seating is rough here, so a nice place to grab-n-go, but I managed to get a table. Staff was also really friendly considering how busy it was! read more

I work in the neighborhood and come here almost every day for drinks, baked goods, and also the regular seasonal, and soup menu. I love the service and all of the people who work there, I love that they don't allow computers, and most of all i love their soups, sandwiches, and salads. I probably get 3-4 bowls of soup from them a week. The soup menu changes daily and it's almost always vegetarian. Comes with a perfect sized loaf of bread and is pretty well priced. Always delicious. The regular menu has great sandwiches (an excellent grilled cheese) and the seasonal menu always has an interesting and excellent salad available. I can't say enough good about Bakeri. They are an important addition to the neighborhood and I am happy to be a regular. read more

How can this place not be 5 stars? Unbelievably high quality food. Very difficult to choose, but it looks like you can't go wrong. I had the apple cider roll, a brioche and the simple breakfast with jam and butter, as well as cappuccino. All 5 stars. They only thing I thought that wasn't 5 stars was the friendliness of the service. Don't forget to smile, don't rush someone when he/she is still ordering items. okay, here's an odd review that I've been a little reluctant to write, but I think I should say something. First - I generally love this place. I love the food, I love the baked goods, I love the coffee, the tea, the atmosphere. BUT, there's something that needs to be said. This is the major issue: Literally every time I've been here I've overheard some of the employees saying disparaging things about customers behind their backs. Whether the customer was someone who called to ask an obvious question about store hours, or someone who stopped by to grab a coffee and drop off a job application, or else just someone stopping by to pick up some bread on their way home from work. I'm not trying to say that they make fun of everyone, but they make fun of a huge range of customers. I even once overheard an employee remarking to her coworker that a customer in the garden area had a service dog that 'probably wasn't even a real service dog, she's just one of those people who wants to take her dog everywhere with her'. I come here kind of regularly, and have seen a lot of different employees doing this in really different situations. I frankly have no doubt that they do it behind my back as well. I honestly am starting to think that the culture of the working environment here is just really poisoned. If I knew how to contact the manager, I would. So, I want to love this place for the reasons I first said, but I just don't think I can stomach such a noxious environment anymore. read more

i try to stay away from writing reviews but after this place, it's more than necessary. if there were a lower rating than one star, it'd be up in a hot second. unlike the food, which takes it's sweet time. don't get me wrong, the food is just dandy.. most of the time. the service, needs more than a little work. would it really kill you to be nice to your customers? it seems like the ladies here have a real problem being nice to well anyone. no eye contact, everything is a task (ahem, it's your job by the way, if you don't like taking simple requests maybe you shouldn't work in the industry), and the response "whatever" does not fly. why are you even working in the service industry? perhaps you didn't realize that the service industry means dealing with people. if you hate your job don't take it out on the customers. the staff here seems like they're all at least of age, maybe it wouldn't hurt to act like it. however if you're an attractive guy, you've got nothing to worry about. they were more than pleased to help the attractive young man in front of me - smiles and all. i'm not unkind and especially wasn't while i was here (a big deal at the agency went through prior to stopping in, should put a smile on anyone's face), but it seemed like even ordering was asking too much. maybe i should've asked him to order for me. read more

I agree with the previous reviewer. The waitresses hate their lives and yours. However, I'm obsessed with Bakeri's yogurt and granola. It's thick, creamy, delicious and I crave it at least once a week. Last week I asked what kind of fruit they were putting in it, as it's seasonal and I'm a little picky. I would have simply asked them to leave out whatever I didn't enjoy. She gave a huge eye roll and muttered something about "whatever we have in the kitchen". Thanks, super informative and helpful. She could have easily stepped 2 feet to her left and asked the person making it, but I guess staring at me with a surly expression was a better use of her time. I'll still keep coming for the yogurt, but I wish these gals would take a Prozac or something. read more

Very close to my house, this adorable little joint will give you warm fuzzies-- even in summer! During nice/ warm weather, the backyard/ patio is perfect for a lazy brunch or coffee & newspaper session. During winter, although the seating is very limited, you can enjoy an intimate, delish breakfast indoors with a very small group (read: 2-3 peeps max). The ladies that work here are sweet, but not overly so, the food here is indeed tiny, but not overpriced, and the coffee is up to par with the standards of this transplanted West-coaster. If you are looking to sit and spread out with your laptop-- this is prob. not the best place. However, not having to walk the extra 2 blocks to deal with the overcrowded cafe scene on Bedford is priceless. I even sometimes swing into Bakeri on my way to work to pick up a coffee and mini-croissant to-go, which saves me a buck or two (believe it or not) and a gag or two (believe it) if I were to get a similar breakfast near my office in Midtown Manhattan. Bakeri just opened on 7/23/09 in the space that used to house St. Helen's Cafe. First, the good news: the space has been smartly renovated with great care - everything inside and out is new or old/new and has a really clean, open and airy look to it. Outside - they've added a few seats to the front, some plantings and a huge clean glass window; the backyard has the same Koi pond with fish and turtles, but they've opened it up, cleaned up the garden and added some space for tables. Everyone inside seems happy to have customers, take requests and chit chat - as much as I got on fine with the old owners, their was always a bit of hipster, velvet rope/detached feeling that wasn't the warmest. New spot seems to really care about pastries and baked goods and, I believe, they have gut renovated the basement with a brand new baking area in the basement. Lastly, and most importantly, the coffee.... don't know the beans they use, but the coffee is pretty darn good and they take good care of preparation and presentation. It's early yet, so hard to compare to St. Helen's (those dudes definitely nailed the coffee), but I feel optimistic Bakeri will be on the same level. Bad News: none yet, really. It's the first few days and their working out the kinks of things so not need to judge the normal business getting it's legs. I believe the guys from Sweetwater own this place (someone confirm) - they seem nice, hopefully not too clique-y like the last owners. All and all, I have high hopes for this spot as it is in my hood and they seem well on their way to have a good spot. read more
