The four of us stopped in on Saturday night, 12/23/17. They were very busy but we only had a short wait for a table, so we settled in at the bar for a fantastic pitcher of margaritas. First off, their margaritas are really good which we knew about because of the Bakersfield in Cincinnati, which I think was their original location. This one is bigger and the design and layout here provides a truly comfortable experience in a kind of rustic urban setting. It's just a really great looking bar/restaurant. Once we got to our table, the wonderful service continued, which was mildly surprising since they had just opened that previous Monday. Our server, Paige, took really good care of us and tended to our every need. We mostly ate a variety of tacos and I think we eventually sampled nearly every one of them. We also included soup, chili, and salads and virtually everything we had was fantastic. The whole visit was worth every penny we spent and we're already looking forward to getting back there soon. My first time here. We went around 2pm and it was easy to sit and order quickly. I love that the windows are open so you get that natural breeze. They changed the short rib tostada. Bad move!!!!! Bring it back!! The wait staff and drinks were solid, but they totally altered the best option on the menu. Highly disappointed, margaritas were the only thing on the menu that was Fresh and Made to Order!!!! We ordered 2 tacos each, 1 Fish 1 Al Pastor for me, 1 short rib 1 veggie taco for my lovely friend. Let me start by telling you, all the tacos were cold (In other words, the meat was made early in the morning, and warmed up when you order it) absolutely disgusting, the meat on all tacos tasted old, dry, and disgusting!!!! I will never go here again, imperial and Bakersfield serve you tacos that were made 10 hrs before you order it! We shared bites of tacos with each other and were grossed out, No flavor in the tacos, very cold tacos, and not good quality of ingredients!!!! Will not go back! Came here on a random Saturday noon and it was pretty empty. The server was hella nice and explained everything in much detail; she was so helpful. Per the servers recommendation we ordered chips and guac which was really good, but a bit expensive. I ordered three tacos: carnitas, shrimp, and fish tacos. This was probably one of my favorite places to go to back when they had the original hongos tostada that came on a bed of lettuce and greens. It was just the perfect amount of everything and I was never too full or hungry afterwards just satisfied. However, yesterday I came in and ordered the same dish as always and to my surprise I was served three mini tostadas topped with hongos and a few other things. I thought I had ordered the wrong item but turns out they removed my beloved tostada off the menu. Thankfully, we had an amazing server who realized immediately that I didn't order the wrong item and that I was unaware of the menu changes. She apologized to me and said she'll gladly get me something else on the menu free of charge! I thanked her for her excellent service which made my Bakersfield experience still satisfying. Great evening at the Bakersfield. Waited an hour and a half on a Saturday night because we didn't make reservations. Staff was warm and friendly. Lots of tequila and whiskey on hand. We had 4 in our party and ordered one of each of their tacos. Not a bad bite to be had. I would not say it is "authentic" but, definitely filling, flavorful food options and exceptional service, ugh I am such a fan. Just finished a delicious late lunch with my siblings. We started with the appetizer trio and loaded queso. The chips and guacamole were fresh and the loaded queso had excellent flavor. We enjoyed an assortment of tacos, including shrimp, bistec, and al pastor. All had great flavor with well matched toppings. Our server, Marvin, was very personable, friendly, and did a great job answering our questions. His service was excellent. Will be delighted to have him as our server for the next visit. I would give the tacos a 3/5, the flavors are pretty balanced and its overall a good experience. I have had better fish and shrimp tacos. Only reason why I wouldn't give the place a 4 or above is the fact that I'm not screaming for more. If someone told me to come out to get tacos, this place doesn't scream out "lets go", its more of a place where someone can ask you to go to Bakersfield and you're like "sure I'm down" kind of place. Started with the Queso, it was broiled with melted cheese on top. It was good, but not life changing, it's a mornay style queso, which means it's cheese added to milk thickened with a roux... the problem making queso this way is it tends to have a less than perfect texture than adding cheese to cream and melting it that way. It was flavorful, but had a gritty texture. The taco were all good, came on Friday during lent so I stayed away from meat, had the shrimp, fish, and mushroom taco. All of them were good, but the corn tortillas fell apart in the middle of eating them which is why I'm a fan of 2 corn tortillas on street style tacos. The drink specials were great on a Friday night, ended up taking some 3 dollar rye whiskey shots after dinner! Over all had a good experience and will be back! read more

However, the bar manager, Dayton went above and beyond. He made our experience even more than what I personally assumed it would be. The Al Pastors taco a steak taco and the veggie taco. Our server recommended that we share a salad which we did; the salad was really good and I forget what salad it was But it was delicious. Known for its excellent tacos, Bakersfield is a great and always lively spot. It shares a wall with the well known Detroit cocktail lounge Grey Ghost. Bakersfield is a chain, has some other well celebrated locations in Cleveland, Nashville?, and other cities, and boasts its "artisan menu tacos." They are good and they're priced as such. Tacos are single serve a la carte, like $3-5 depending on the meat and ingredient quality. Favorites were the marinated bistec and al pastor. If you're with the group, I'd get the pitcher of the house margaritas. Best bang for your buck, probably get about 6-7 drinks worth for $32 rather than $8 a glass. Enjoy! read more

Came here last night and my oh my the food was amazing. The chips and queso was a great way to start. The chips were fresh and the cheese sauce came with peppers, chorizo, and beans. I literally saw a guy scraping the bowl trying to get every last bit of it. They say it's hot, but i didn't taste any spice. Next up was the salad. We got the Johnny, which according to their menu has "mixed greens, bacon, cotija cheese, hearts of palm, avocado, red onion, toasted almond, cider vinaigrette". It wasn't heavily dressed and just perfect! The tacos were small, but that just means you have more room to try all the different kinds. I tried the fish taco, the short taco, and one with some kind of pork. They were sooo good! They also had a bunch of other kinds. 9 in total! I remember also seeing portabello mushroom and carnitas as well. I had to skip out on the tequila and whiskey part since I was here for a professional event, but even the water was good and my cup was always full. I looked around the table and saw some really great looking drinks. Would love to come back when I'm not under the microscope. Oh, and can't forget to mention that the service was great. Great little casual taco bar located in Midtown right off Woodward around the corner from Grey Ghost. Huge wrap around bar and plenty of seating, it was a great mix of busy without being overly crowded. Specials on shots and beers of the day. The corn tortillas were thicker than what I'm used to, and it seemed to take over the flavor of the filling of each taco. The tacos are also not very large, and quite pricey. The best value on the whole menu are the sandwiches. Our table ordered the seasonal margarita pitcher, and the traditional margarita. The pitchers are an affordable deal to share, and they are delicious! Very fresh and do not taste like they are from a mix at all. For food, we ordered an assortment of tacos, and our friend ordered the chicken sandwich. The sandwich was great and we all were jealous we hadn't ordered it! I ordered the corn and poblano taco, which honestly was a huge let down. It was chopped up into little pieces so the texture and heartiness of the taco was very underwhelming. I would've liked to see full slices of poblano. I also ordered the fish taco, which was a little more satisfying, but still very small. Finally made it out to Bakersfield. We must've showed up just at the right moment because they were busy but we had no wait for a table of 4. We sat down at a bench-like picnic table. Not gonna lie, really uncomfortable hunched over in a picnic table. Luckily the food was top notch. Tacos and a torta. The torta chicken sandwich was massive and price decent. Overall, everything was price very fair. We fed four hungry people for under $60. Everyone ate plenty. The noise level was a bit high due to a group of ladies at the front who were a bit excessive. The tortillas are the best part of the taco. I ordered 2 veggie ones that had near no flavor at all, the shrimp on was very tasty though. We got some cheese dip to start that got chunky and hard as soon as it cooled down a bit so eat it fast. The guac is pretty tasty just ask for extra chips. The margaritas are the best part of this place, the pineapple one was on point with spice salt on the rim to balance out the sweet. The original was also super tasty with fresh lime juice and salt on the rim. Service was pretty good, however they forgot our togo order we asked for 3x! We sat for 45 min asking and waiting for it. On my brief visit to Detroit, I had the pleasure of stopping by this restaurant for lunch. What a delight. From food to service to decor this establishment pays attention to detail. I came in with a large group and we were seated on a big booth with some high top chairs. Our server offered us water and gave us plenty of time to make up our minds. Right of the bat, chips and guacamole and chips and cheese dips were ordered. They came out relatively fast and I could tell the guacamole was freshly prepared. The cheese dip was hot and melting in my mouth. I ordered two of the tacos: pollo (chicken) and the shrimp. I personally loved them both. The shrimp was meaty and had a crunch to them. My first experience here was the first weekend it opened. It was crazy, I sat at the bar, and it was a meh experience. HOWEVER, I went back this week and had one of the best service experiences I've ever had. If you went here when it opened and had an okay experience, I recommend going back. First of all the patio is dog friendly. And I don't just mean they allow dogs, they LOVE dogs. Multiple people on the staff came over to introduce themselves to my dog, and they even made him a plain chicken taco so "he wouldn't feel left out" (their words, it was so cute). Two different people came out with a full water dish for him, etc etc. When we left, the hostess yelled "bye, oscar!" (that's my dog's name). Detroit isn't a very dog friendly city so this was really unexpected and completely made my week. We ordered the queso, which was really different than tex-mex queso and really really good. Had the guac and a few tacos and everything was really tasty. There aren't many taco places in this neighborhood, but out of what we've got, this is definitely #1.
