    Taco al Carbon
    Aliya S.

Our waitress was very nice. She brought out a birthday treat for my friend. The food was good and they gave a decent amount of meat for one taco. The temperature of the spot we were in kept changing though. It was super cold at first, and then they turned the heat on and it became super hot, then they turned off again and on again. So I guess dress in layers depending on how you run temperature wise.

When I was a kid, my dad would bring burritos from Armando's home. It's been over 15 years since the last time I had it, so I was curious to see how it is now. Simply put, it fell short of my expectations. The first red flag, the tortilla chips were stale. The second red flag, the server unexpectedly described the cuisine as "not authentic" while we were ordering. Despite this, I still wanted to try a few items to see for myself. I ordered a pork tamale, an al pastor taco, a quesabirria taco, and a burrito with chunky beef and cheese on top, all à la carte. My wife got a taco salad. The al pastor taco was my favorite part of the meal. The marinade had a great flavor profile, and the taco itself offered a generous amount of meat. The burrito was good, but the contents within it were unevenly spread. The quesabirria taco, tamale, and taco salad were all standard at best. The taco's presentation was disappointing, as it was floppy and needed more meat. By no means does Armando's offer a "bad" experience. At the same time, there are so many other Mexican restaurants in Southwest Detroit more deserving of my business.

Went for my wife's birthday, did a Facebook poll on a local restaurant page, a lot of people suggested here. The service was great, the experience and ambiance was great, food was good, I would say mid level basic Mexican food. But we had a great time, next time we will try a different place though.

    Birria-Rito

Very popular spot from the locals. They have great drink specials and good food to boot. I ordered the Birria-rito and a few Tequila Sunrises and enjoyed my meal. Servers are nice and there is plenty of space for large parties. Even with plenty of seating Try to beat the rush if you can, cause this place gets packed.

Great Mexican fare. Menu has a lot of options. We had a large party of 12, it was perfect for large parties. Got the El Jefe margarita (delish!) the birria--ito a birria filled burrito. So good! Hubby got the chicken milanesa torta, it was huge! Recommend getting a side of pickled jalapeños and hot sauce if you like more spice. Everyone at the table was happy and staff was super nice.

The place was totally empty today which was surprising. The place used to be crowded for lunch and packed for dinner. Had the Mexican Sandwich with extra cheese. It was fresh, hot and yummy with a side of guacamole. Large portion, where I ate half and took half home for later. I also had a margarita. It wasn't strong AT ALL so I ordered a side of tequila. Ambiance is family friendly. The bill was $85 for lunch! We used to come down and eat for about $50. It was good, but probably won't be back for a while.

Got here place had a twenty minute wait not because was packed but because kitchen was backed up. We stopped here after visiting the Art Fair. Ordered birria rito . My son ordered two tacos one chicken on beef and my cousin ordered seafood taco on corn tortillas. The food was okay. Service was great.

I went back to Armando's yesterday for lunch. I ordered 1 Taco al Carbon, Grilled Steak w/Corn Tortilla ($4.50), 1 Taco al Pastor w/Corn Tortilla ($4.25), 1 Baja Seafood taco w/Corn Tortilla ($5.95). It was Wednesday, so a Strawberry Margarita was only $5 (no salt on the rim please). Service by Dominique was polite and exemplary. Of the 3 types of tacos, my favorite was the Baja Seafood. But ALL of them were DEEELICIOUS. The margarita had just the right amount of tequila in it and was not too sweet. It is a nice, family friendly restaurant. The bathroom was IMMACULATE. I shall return! Total was $20.89 after tax. It was a VERY GOOD lunch.

Always a staple in Detroit's Mexican town. Fresh off the plane I needed to eat because I wasn't paying $15 for a sandwich at the airport. I didn't complicate things and went straight for my usual the wet burrito with beans & rice along with a couple of margaritas. After all these years the place hasn't changed and that's why they will always be A-1.

I like going to a neighborhood restaurant that has survived time. A restaurant where the locals go. There are several Mexican Restaurants in Corktown (Mexican town) in Detroit. This is not a fancy place however the food is tasty and authentic. We do carry out here. Only challenge, a carry out customer must exit the restaurant go outside and in back door to go into the restaurant. For a female alone not a great idea. There is Nada security. Normally with husband, but... The food will bring me back. You can order a Margherita to go

    Enchiladas Suizas with ground beef
    Tracy W.

The best enchiladas I have ever had! Cute restaurant in MexicanTown in Detroit, we got there right before the rush, but either way it would've been worth the wait. We were seated immediately, I was torn between the tamales and enchiladas so I went with the waitress suggestion of enchiladas and so glad I did. The ground beef was seasoned to perfection and they use Muenster cheese on the enchiladas and it added the flavor. Highly recommend! I look forward to returning on my next visit to Detroit!

Me and my family love to visit at least quarterly. Armando's is our go to when we go to Southwest Detroit. They have the best hot salsa. I do both carry out and dine in. The best part about dining in is the complementary chips and salsas. They always make a point to put a spoon in the hot one!!

Here is the lay of the land: Check in at the little red table in the center of the outdoor courtyard if you want "full service". - which means eating and drinking at a table with wait staff. It is not seat yourself at the outdoor tables, like we originally thought. There is a nice sized bar indoors and seating at the bar is first come first served. We ordered several of the small plate "snacks" and I can tell you that the hummus is not to be missed. It is served with (homemade?) tortilla chips that are absolutely addictive. They have lots of choices for wine, beer, and cocktails. Towards the back entrance of the property, there is a drink truck where you can also order "walkaway" food and drinks. Not entirely sure where you sit with the food/drinks you order, as most of the seating seemed reserved for full service. Additionally, there is a photo booth for pics (long line) and Warda Patisserie is right next door and accessible through a garden walkway.

If you want to sit outside, all you have to do is order at the bar and they'll serve your drinks in plastic cups for you to take outside. The rhubarb pie punch was so delicious I had to order it twice! Probably one of my favorite cocktails I've ever had. I also ordered the maurixio cattelan, which tasted like ginger ale. For a snack before dinner, we chose to get the burrata and it was so refreshing. The service was great and our bartender was super friendly! The logo with the little lamb is adorable. I bought one of their wine glasses with their logo on it too for just $10.

Between the two of us we had the beet salad, burger and steak tartare. Burger was good, but not the best smash burger that I've had. Beet salad was fine, however the cream cheese was a bit overpowering against the orange oil. It was dying for some citrus. Steak tartare was a bit dry, meaning that a small dab of olive oil would have added to the richness and overall mouth feel. I did not really taste the egg although I did see a dab of yolk on the tartare. Needed a bit of salt also to enhance the taste Menu was small, but it did cover a cross section of French bistro dishes. All in all, I thought it was a bit overpriced. So I will have to consider returning for a full meal. I would come back for a burger and beer at the bar.

I was very pleasantly surprised! The space is beautiful, classy, and airy. We sat at the bar and had a nice chat -- the music was at a good volume. I only ordered wine -- their wine list is alright. Not bad for a bar that's clearly not wine-focused. My wife and a friend had cocktails and they both were good, particularly their espresso martini. For food, we shared patatas bravas, tortilla española, and croquetas de jamon, and they were all delicious. I'd legit come back for a full dinner. My only reason to not give this 5 stars is the drink service was very slow, even though the place wasn't busy. The two bartenders seemed friendly enough but weren't communicating very well, and kept forgetting to take and/or bring our orders. We also asked for the check and they kept forgetting to bring it until we asked again. They could have been upfront about this, but our waiter didn't tell us until after bringing us drinks, letting us see the menus, and after he started to take our orders. We essentially had to ask---what *do* you have? One pet peeve of mine is that they give everyone low ball glasses for water with no ice and a single, narrow carafe of water for the entire table. We had to continuously ask for more water. I tried the espresso no-tini ($11), a mocktail. It was good, but came in cordial glass and was essentially just a shot of chilled espresso. The setas ($14) were listed as a local wild mushroom blend with garlic and lemon. It was probably about a half cup of mushrooms, grilled, and served in a saucer. Finally, the charcuterie y queso ($21) was meat, cheese, sourdough, mustard, pickles, and honey. Everything was very salty and with no variation. It needed balance with a soft cheese, spice, or more sweetness. My charcuterie plate didn't come out until about an hour plus after we ordered, after multiple asks. It's hard to justify the delay when it's just hard cheese and meat, they didn't have to cook, and there were few other customers. (Essentially, we forgot). I still had a wonderful time with my friends in a beautiful space, but I wouldn't come here to eat again. The menu is elaboratey described dishes that come in very small portions and with ingredients that don't live up to the names.
