The food here is average, the atmosphere is fun. The bartenders are slow, if you're sitting at the bar, be prepared to wait about 15-20 minutes to put a drink order in on the weekend and about 45 minutes for a table. The Mexican food is not your typical Mexican food, it is very Americanized. The guac is light, needs more flavor in my opinion but i may be too accustomed to Mexican Towns legitimacy. Our first visit here was overwhelming but they had just opened a week before and adjusting. We have been back twice since then during off times. It's our new favorite upscale taco place. 100% YUM. Drinks, chips and queso, tacos...all so good! The queso is real melted cheese and is to die for. The make their tortillas in house, and are fabulous. Yum! We were looking for a place to eat near the Motor City Hotel. We settled on Mexican and My coworker found Bakersfield on Open Table. When we walked in i looked around for anything to confirm that we were in a Mexican Restaurant. Nothing about the decor is traditional; not even the staff. But woah!!! The food is outstanding!!!! Very well maintained bar / restaurant. I went during a MSU basketball game on a Saturday. The place was packed (3-4 hour wait) when we asked for a table however they had enough room for our group to be at the bar and hangout at one of the high tables in the middle. Their drinks and food are more towards Mexican cookery so if you don't like Mexican food there wouldn't be too much other options. The bartenders are great and the service was nothing but perfect however the only issue I had was the layout of the place as we were at one of the high top tables. We were getting bumped a few times as waitress were walking back and forth. This was nothing big but there was not a lot of room around us. There's no fabric anywhere to absorb any sound and the ceilings are decently high, so it's a bit tough to hear the folks you're with while you're here. Okay, that's that. My gal pal and I came here for dinner-- admittedly, forgetting that it was half an hour before a Wings game-- and this place was packed! We sat at the bar, to which I am never averse, and the bartenders were very attentive, managing a full bar quite well and making tasty drinks to boot. I had a classic margarita, a fish taco, and a cochinita pibil, and my pal and I split a queso app, and everything was delicious! The fish was battered and cooked like a dream, and the braised pork was juicy and so flavorful and complemented very well by the taco's other elements. I've been coming to this place for 3 years now and 2 of the bartenders there are terrible. Ethan (whom I had problems with before) and Bri (Brianna). I sat at the bar for over 5 minutes without being address. The bartender that wears the Derby hat came from the kitchen and entered the bar area and immediately took my order. And then to top the evening got worst, I sat at the bar and had food, and drinks, not one time did she (Bri) ask me how I was doing or if I needed anything. You gotta try this place. The tacos are all delicious! Choose from an array of chicken, pork, rib, carnitas, beef and fish all spiced and flavored individually with a fresh tortilla for $4 each. Served community style, the wait staff will happily tell you which one is which and will help answer any questions about the menu. The margaritas are excellent here, I'd say just get the pitcher! We were able to get at least 5 refills from the pitcher, just ask for light ice. If you have a large group they will most likely put everything on the same bill, so bring cash or make sure your friends have Venmo! Seating is limited for big parties but it's a great spot for a dinner date. The queso will satisfy any cheese lovers craving and the guacamole is heavenly....honestly it's THE BEST I've ever had, they don't hold back on the lime and it goes great with the salted chips. Their salsa is perfectly season and spicy, it also comes with a side of salsa verde grinch colored green paste that tastes like a smoothie....the only thing I wouldn't recommend. It was a Saturday night and we had just walked from the new Little Caesars Arena back to our car and noticed Bakersfield. We had no clue what type of food it was going to be or any knowledge of it opening in Detroit. This place is VIBES - there is a hip young crowd here with loads of bar top seating, picnic tables, and lively atmosphere. We got a variety of tacos and eats. Excellent place for groups of 6 or more. They were very accommodating and we were able to make a reservation. We did the special that cost each person $15 and you receive a 3 course meal. It was more than enough food for the group. They adjust the amount of food based off your total number of people. First course is appetizers: chips salsa, guacamole, and queso. The queso wasn't all that great but the guac and salsa were good. Second course was the Johnny salad. It was mainly a spring mix and didn't have that much toppings but was still good. Third course was tacos! It was a variety and were very delicious. There was 5 kinds: fish, pollo rojo, al pastor, short rib and hongos. Drinks: skip the individual drinks and get a margarita pitcher. Better bang for your buck and it almost gave us 7 glasses from each pitcher. Also, they were really good! Service: our waiter was very patient and did a nice job of keeping up with your group of 10. He explained everything very throughly and did separate bills for us, which is super important for a group. read more

She described the space as "warm and cozy," and that's exactly what it is. It was a cold, snowy night outside, and the restaurant quickly warmed me up and felt inviting. The flavors are deep, and although it's not my thing, there was baked cheese on top that I'm sure most people would happily enjoy. The salsas on the table were all great as well, but I would recommend that they serve you with small bowls for it instead of plates as it gets hard to scoop onto your chip. I ordered the Papas Tostada, and it's a mountain of delicious flavors and textures. I honestly could have eaten the whole thing because it tasted so good but had to stop to prevent over-stuffing myself. To round it all out, we also had really great service and had a manager check-in to make sure we were enjoying the food. I was excited to try this place as Mexican is some of my favorite food. And the food did not disappoint. We started with chips, salsa and guacamole. The guacamole was some of the best I've ever had. We also got a pitcher of the bakersfield margarita (their house margarita) and it was also phenomenal. I'm not a huge fan of the sweet (fake) margarita mixers and it appeared as though everything was fresh. The food continued to impress from there. The tacos were all spectacular, although, my favorite thing all night was the corn chowder soup. The place deserves 5 starts for its food alone but the service was so good I wish I could add another star. Our server was very attentive and kind, but I was most impressed how the manager, Dayton, made it a point to develop a rapport with us and make sure that our experience was perfect. This place is amazing!!! On our first trip there I fell in love with their papas tostada! Such an amazing blend of flavors on a bed of greens tossed with the perfect buttermilk cilantro dressing. The service is pretty fast unless you're there on a busy day. The margaritas are tasty! We tried the grapefruit one and were pleasantly surprised at how tasty it was. My only complaint is that they no longer serve the papas tostada as of the last time we were there. Such a bummer, especially for us vegetarians. I even brought friends to check out this place just to try that tostada only to be disappointed that it was gone. Hopefully they bring it back or expand their menu to include more vegetarian options! read more

My love and I ate here on the fly and I wasn't disappointed. There was a wait due to social distancing practices, so we ate outside. They have their patio equipped with tall propane heaters so the night air wasn't terrible. The food was pretty good. We started with both types of queso, EXCELLENT! They have small sized tacos that were pretty good. The shrimp was the best for us. We tried fish, shrimp, hongo, and some other veggie type. I love a casual and friendly atmosphere and staff. I ordered tacos which are served a la carte and were delicious and very filling.
