We are in town for the race and saw Bakersfield was new to town. We frequent the Indy location, but this experience exceeded what we were expecting! Best tacos, queso, and margaritas in town! The building is beautiful and service was spot on. The host was very friendly, our server was excellent, and the GM (Grayson) cleared our plates and asked about our experience. Impressive!! My husband and I have eaten here three times this week. I've ordered something different every time. My husband and I both really like the shrimp and fish tacos. The short rib taco tastes like it has a little cinnamon in it so I don't recommend that. The al pastor tacos and the portobello tacos are both good. Yesterday I had the chicken taquitos. They were tasty and I do recommend them however it isn't really that much food so you should probably get the queso too. Today I ordered the Milanesa torta; it was a lot more food than the taquitos for the same price. Honestly though, I won't order the chicken torta again. I would describe it as a key lime pie sandwich complete with graham cracker crust coating on the chicken; if you're into that sorta thing, more power to ya but it just wasn't for me. My only reason for the 3 star rating is because of the music they opt to play. Old school country western music is a perplexing choice considering the younger demographic that frequent this location. My family went here after a show at LCA. We were seated right away, and the place was large enough to accommodate different sizes of parties. There was a good variety of alcoholic beverages. We got my son an apple juice and my husband and I got a couple of beers on draft. All priced decently. We started with the chips and queso. It was definitely flavorful, but had a bit of a grainy texture. My husband and I each got three tacos. We got the shrimp, short rib, fish, el pastor, corn, carnitas. All were pretty decent and portions were pretty good. My favorite was the shrimp and my husband's was the short rib. Definitely a great place to take the family or hangout with a group of friends. Bakersfield is my go to for $2 tacos on Tuesdays. While it's not authentic, their shrimp tacos are my fave on the menu. I also really enjoy their chips and guacamole and their margaritas (I may have had a few pitchers in my day). It gets crazy crowded on Tuesdays now so I recommend getting there early. Worst service in Detroit. It took 15 min for the bartender (yes, we were sitting at the bar) to notice us! She was so busy talking to her friends, that even in a mostly empty bar she didn't notice she had new customers and we couldn't get her attention, let alone anyone else's. Our group of 10 came in and waited for over TWO HOURS while a group smaller than ours (~6-7 people) sat and chatted and held the only table able to accommodate our party. Nobody in the establishment would say anything even though we begged them to becuase they said management wouldn't allow it by any means. We went through all of this only to be treated super poorly by some of the staff who had an attitude that we were upset over the wait we had to endure. They suggested we move (a few people in the party had sat down after standing for two whole hours) or we can "eat on a dirty table". Obviously it's understandable to wait a while on a busy night with a large party, but it's ridiculous that staff couldn't kindly inform that smaller group they were keeping a party about to spend at least $200 on food and drink. To top it all off, we had to pay $20/car to park which is why we stayed in the first place. The food and drink was just alright (the shots are huge), but after this fiasco I probably will never come back here again to see if it would be worth becoming a frequent customer. read more

My friends and I came in for margaritas so we did not try the food. The establishment was practicing social distancing and our server was exceptionally friendly. The house margarita pitcher was the perfect balance. The pineapple pitcher margarita definitely has a different twist, but if you like pineapple it's an excellent choice. Tonight I went to Bakersfield to celebrate my birthday with a group of friends. I made a reservation and it was honored right when I walked in. The only good thing about the evening. We sat down right away and then was greeted. We ordered two pitchers of margaritas and a round of water which took way longer than it should have. Probably a good 15 minutes. Not okay. Before coming here, a friend of mine had mentioned she had made a reservation not long ago for her bday and it was disastrous. I thought my round would be different, but nope. Eric was our waiter and he just seemed like he hated life and every time we asked something, it was like pulling teeth, and took forever. A friend of mine ordered a birthday shot for me and it never came, not to mention it took 45 minutes after he dropped our drinks off for him to take our order. Which came after a friend of mine and myself had to go to the manager to complain our waiter hadn't come back after dropping the drinks off. Eric then comes back to take our order but was just not friendly. All in all it was a horrible experience as a group dinner. The food was good and they held my reservation, which were the only two good things they had going for themselves. I then spoke to the manager after our meal and said how horrible the waiter was and he just handed me his card and said he would take care of me next time I came in. I'm sorry, but after complaining twice, not going to happen. Great food but if you're looking for a good experience, not the place with a big group. I was there in Detroit for some art gallery visit and an artist talk with my other artist friend. We both decided to go to have Mexican food and Bakersfield restaurant came up in yelp . It was an excellent experience. I ordered two fish tacos and she had one fish and one shrimp tacos. And we both shared a plate of chips and guacamole. The tacos were quite feeling and fresh and very very tasty. But the gem is the freshness of the guacamole. I never had this perfect guacamole in a restaurant. It was perfect. I would definitely like to go back and try more from the menu . Over all our experience was really great. Our server was very nice and attentive. The ambiance was also great. The prices are not that high at all considering their location and high ratings. We parked out car on street. I don't know if there is any near by parking garage or not . In any case I am definitely looking forward to be there again soon. read more

another 5 star review from me within a one month period?! insane. but so is bakersfield! insanely. good. i had high hopes for this place and boy was i not let down. first off, when i have a craving for tacos and tequila it's not usually hard to satisfy that craving, but it is hard for me to want to go back so soon. i have been to imperial and i see so many comparisons between them and bakersfield. i don't think it's fair to compare the two. yes, they have similar concepts but bakersfield has multiple location in the US, imperial does not. i don't think it's fair to compare a local joint to something that has multiple locations in multiple states. anyway, i was drawn to bakersfield by the fact that they have more to offer than most taco joints. they have QUESO which is amazing! that burnt cheese on top is life. it's only 6 bucks so we paired it with the regular salsa and salsa verde ($4). their salsa is amazing, nice and spicy with tons of flavor. i hate a dull salsa and i hate when i have to mix two together to get flavor, you don't get that here. each salsa is unique in its own way. the salsa verde reminded me of a subtle guacamole taste. they have plenty of tacos on the menu....but let me tell you, shrimp. tacos. is the way to go!!! the shrimp are crispy and juicy and you get shrimp in every bite. i am seriously drooling just thinking about it. the chicken taco was good too but i could have done without the beans. the tacos are small, however they pack tons of flavor and if you get an appetizer you will probably be good with 2-3 tacos. if you run out of chips with your app they refill them for free, a huge plus considering they charge for chips and salsa. lastly, the only thing i could say needs improvement are the drinks. if they could pack a little more punch that would be great. but i only tried one (pineapple), so maybe the original one is stronger. next time we're definitely ordering an entire pitcher! read more
