Tried Bakersfield last night after hearing so many great things about it. First of all, great location. Surrounded by a bunch of other restaurants too. The atmosphere was lively and fun, I don't personally mind a loud restaurant but that is something to consider. As for the drinks, very unique and delicious. I got a classic margarita and it came in a mason jar (which I love) so that was pleasant. We ordered chips and guacamole and you could just tell how fresh the guacamole was. Very chunky and a great combination of flavors. The tacos are priced per one so you don't have to commit to one flavor which is GREAT since they all look delicious. I tried Baja fish and shrimp and they were so fresh and perfectly presented. All of the tacos are on corn tortillas too which is good to note since I eat out with a lot of people who have a gluten allergy. Another thing to try- chips and queso. My favorite food group is Mexican. I could eat it every night of the week. It's so flavorful and diverse. There are many different categories of Mexican, authentic taqueria-style , Tex-Mex, Mexican-American, you get the point. This place is a foodie lovers dream offering simply amazing Mexican food. I've only been twice but feel like we've tried the entire menu. They have a special menu that is currently featuring some amazing chorizo chili as well as the most delicious Mexican- Asian fusion taco. That menu ends in May so hurry up and go get one of those tacos!! The other highlight of the regular menu is the short ribs. Offered in a taco or on a tostada, super delicious. The shrimp taco is great although the shrimp is deep fried. Friends tried the delicious chicken torta and raved about it. They are known for their guacamole and I can see why. But here's a secret, one of the very best things is the Verde salsa that they will bring to the table if you request salsa. They actually bring three different kinds...a Chipotle-smokey, a hot red salsa and the Verde. The Verde is my favorite. Like I could bathe in it favorite. It's a fun place and had a great energy. We came in after the Red Wings Game to watch the Michigan win over Iowa in the B10 Championship. Bakersfield was hopping and the servers were f'n awesome. Went here last night for a drink with my friend. My friend and I both ordered margaritas at the bar when the bartender took my ID and stated it wouldn't scan under their ID scanner. I was then approached by the manager who walked up to me, shook my hand and stated that he would be confiscating my ID because it was fake. I stated that this was my real ID and have never had a problem with it before when he said he was either confiscating it or calling the police. The Detroit Police came, saw that the ID was valid, and left with no problems. Have been here multiple times in the past with good experiences but will not be returning after this terrible customer service. read more

Bakersfield is a great spot! They have a great ambiance and the food is awesome. We loved that you can make reservations online, it makes it easy to come in on a busy night downtown. Even on the same night as a Pistons game, we were able to grab a free street parking on John R Street behind the restaurant. We started off with queso and chips and salsa. The queso was the best I've had in this area! Their chips were delicious. We tried several tacos for dinner along with the taquitos. Everything we had was delicious. Our favorite tacos were the fish and bistec. We ordered a pitcher of the pineapple margarita and it was perfect. We'll certainly be back! Service was quick and our server was attentive. read more

I brought a group of about 8 or so here for dinner, and while I thought the service was great, especially for the size of our party, I was left a little unimpressed with the food, portions, and pricing. Given the price point I expected three tacos would be enough for a normal adult meal, but I cleaned my plate and probably could have downed three more. Flavor was okay, not terrible but nothing to write home about. The overall impression I took away from my meal was that this place emphasizes style over substance. They are definitely rocking a cool dark, hip vibe and producing tacos that look delicious, but as a dining experience it just didn't deliver. As a lover of tacos and tequila, Bakersfield is one of my favorite new spots in the city. I love chicken tacos so I ordered 3 pollo tacos and their house margaritas. I didn't know what to expect but I don't think I could've made a better decision. The tacos were absolutely delicious and whew the margarita pitcher was perfect for my date and I. We were able to get about 3 drinks each from the pitcher. The chips and salsa was also good with a nice kick to it. I highly recommend Bakersfield to all! Amazing guac. Get the trio sampler to try all the salsas and the portion sizes are large. They will give you free extra chips with the salsas and guac which is nice because you will need it. A lot of taco options for meat lovers and the vegetarians. I recommend the corn truffle taco if you are looking for a veggie option because it's very creamy and topped with mushrooms, beans, and corn. I came to Bakersfield with the first time with a large group of friends. I have to say that the guacamole was my favorite part of the meal. It had big chunks of avocado and a nice tangy flavor from the lime juice. The tacos were also pretty good. Word to the wise, tacos are sold a la carte, so prices reflect one taco. Enjoyed my experience at Bakersfield. I ended up going in on a rainy Thursday for lunch, not to my surprise there was plenty of seating, with most of the guest sitting at the bar. They also have patio seating with heaters for those non rainy but colder days. Loved my tacos, but with how small they were I wish I would have gotten 3 or 4 instead of 2. After 2 tacos and 1 specialty cocktail it was an $18 bill. Next time I am cutting out the cocktail and loading up on Tacos, because they were yummy! Ended up getting the special tacos (minus the cabbage on both) which cost no more then the normal menu tacos, and there were no regrets with my choices, only wish I would have gone for at least one more. Service was great and I LOOOOOVE the inside, it is a really nice establishment. This place should be booming once the weather warms up. In walking distance of sporting arenas, and garage doors that will more then likely be open in the summer time. Great new spot for Detroit and great location. Let me start by saying this is the best queso I have ever had and think about it often. It's the cheese dip you can only dream of- melty, smokey, lots of cheese flavor. The tortilla chips are just perfect- probably why the queso and chips were just so good. While here we had a variety of different tacos-steak, shrimp, and chicken options all of which were amazing in their own way. The taco options are unique and full of flavor, you can tell they are super fresh! We each had three and thought it was the perfect amount and left feeling full and satisfied. It was our first visit here and found the staff to be very friendly and informative, they told us some good and popular items on the menu. Last time I went here, the wait was over two hours. After my pleasant dinner experience, I can see why. Kuddos to having such great staff. The ambience of the restaurant is hip and trendy. The guacamole is chunky and delicious. I recommend getting their house margarita. They make everything in house its not full of preservatives nor concentrated with a ridiculous amount of sugar. Delicious. Before I say anything else , please make a reservation days in advance, if you try getting a table by walk in you will forsure have a very long wait, because the place is amazing. Imperial in ferndale is my favorite place to go get some good tacos so automatically I was judging this place and it had some big shoes too fill to beat imperial out, but I now have a new favorite I taco spot. My waitress was very accommodating , explaining everything in the menu and suggesting some good picks. The guacamole is delicious , and the tacos are fantastic. The fish and the shrimp tacos I could eat over and over again. One could argue that 4 dollars for a taco is expensive but for the size and experience of it all I disagree. With appetizers, three tacos and margaritas I left stuffed and wanting nothing but to return the next day. YUM! My boyfriend and I have been wanting to try this spot for awhile now. We were not disappointed. Everything we ordered was super fresh and full of goodness. We ordered... The good folks at Bakersfield always come through with a solid taco. From what I'm told their bar is also legit and typically accommodating. If you have a chance try to catch them while the weather is good and the windows are open in the evening for a great dining experience. If you don't, don't worry about it you'll still have great food and probably meet some new cool people there as well. Originally planned to go here for Mother's Day brunch, and wish I had kept that plan (our alternative location was much worse!). I understand this is a chain (small chain?), but the food was really top rate, homemade, and there really wasn't a disappointing item. I'll start off with the good things. Our waitress was very nice and helpful. Management was very helpful as well. The food was genuinely awful. We started with the chips and dip trio. The guacamole was great, but their 'salsa' is far from. The salsa verde was edible but rojo salsa was downright horrible. Salsa by definition is a spicy tomato sauce. There were no tomatoes in it. One taste and I was grabbing for my water to wash the taste out my mouth. My party ordered tacos; I ordered the Bistec taco. I only took half a bite because the flavors and textures were completely off. I'm glad I ordered half of a salad, because it was the only thing that filled me up after the chips and guacamole. We definitely won't eat here again. Management was very receptive to reviews and took the tacos off our bill because they were inedible. read more

Wow. What an all around terrible experience myself and my group had. I had called about a month prior to making a reservation for 6 the night of a concert. It started when we were rudely greeted by the hostess and then had our waitress take us outside to our table in their "heated" tent. When walking outside, I explained to the waitress how we wanted to sit inside. The waitress rudely said "I mean you can ask the hostess if there's availability inside" (isn't that your job?). A member of my group proceeded to ask the hostess and again responded with attitude saying there's a 2 hour wait. The waitress then began to blankly stare at us without offering any help and then began to tell me that I specified to sit outside. Since I had made the reservation a month before, I could not remember how I had made the reservation (open table, resy, etc.) so we sat down. After searching reservation apps, I immediately remembered that in fact I had called and never once was outside seating given to me as an option nor would I EVER request an outside table in the dead of winter before going to a concert not in appropriate attire. We sat and we were all freezing because again, we were not dressed to sit in 20 degree weather. After ordering a round of drinks we were so cold we had to leave. The waitress (almost seemed intentional) took forever to get back to our table so I had to go find her in order to be able to get dinner elsewhere and make it to the concert on time. Once the waitress finally dropped the bill off she then topped it off with "hope your night gets better" under her breath (even though we heard her) and dropped the bill and sprinted away. The waitress is lucky that I have worked in the restaurant industry my whole life or else I wouldn't have the understanding of how they work for tips. Will not be returning. Zero help. Take accountability!! A "so sorry" would have helped the situation but everyone wanted to have an attitude with us. read more
