Wow just wow! Never have I dealt with a more unprofessional office in all my life and I'm in my 50s....This Dr. is not a good person! He is older than dirt, falling apart, and not with the times. One phone(that rarely gets picked up or used) and no computers..... He is rude and doesn't believe in modern anything!!!!. I would not recommend. This Dr to my worst enemies!!! His office staff is totally Incompetent . They are rude and don't return calls. They talk about patients in Spanish very ugly cause they think we don't know Spanish! .If you are referred here I would ask for a different referral. STAFF is VERY RUDE!!!!!! We are PATIENTS with pains and illnesses that demand dignity and respect not to be treated like a red folder all over your stinky office floor. The staff don't answer the phone. I called 19 times one day and 5 times another...left numerous messages and have not received any phone call back. They run insurance scams just to bill insurance multiple office visits when they can simply take care of simple things via a phone call, fax(which doesn't work/disconnected), or email! I had an appointment for 8 am and arrived at 7:30. The office wasn't open yet so I waited in the hallway. After a few minutes another patient showed up and began to wait as well. Then another patient showed up to wait as well. We all had 8 am appointments. The staff opened the door at 8:02. I filled out my COVID-19 paperwork and waited at the desk. About 10 minutes later the receptionist showed up and greeted one of the patients by name and grabbed her file and placed it in the rack for the nurse. Then she grabbed the other patients file and put it in the rack. At 8:30 she asked for my name. After I told her my name I explained that I had an 8 AM appointment and I was waiting since 7:30 before anyone else. she said just go have a seat and They'll call you. Then they proceeded to call the other two patients first. The one patient even told them to take me first because he could wait. They call me in at 8:38. I went into the exam room and told the nurse that I have to be at an appointment for work at 9. She just closed the door. At 8:50 I called my client to try and reschedule by leaving a voicemail. Then I called my boss who was upset because I was trying to reschedule the appointment. Fearing the consequences at 8:48 I left the exam room and told the nurse I needed to reschedule and I was upset about the situation. She asked if I could come back tomorrow. I said no I can't. She said what about 1pm today? I agreed and was turning to leave and I almost bumped into the doctor coming in the side entrance. He was just arriving at 8:55 am! Now I can understand if he had an emergency but why not tell me? At 12:30 I arrived for my 1 pm appointment and was brought back to an exam room at 1. The doctor came in at 12:09 and was visibly upset. When I said that I was sorry I didn't have time to wait in the morning he said that I should be upset because of how badly I treated his staff. I told him that it's rude and unprofessional to not communicate to your patients. If you had an emergency you should let your patients know and reschedule if they can't wait. He opened my file and asked if I was going to have my second procedure and why did you come in for your post procedure appointment without having your procedure. He had done both of my procedures within two weeks of each other. Apparently he didn't remember and maybe it wasn't documented in the file. I am scared to go back if he doesn't even remember doing my procedures. He is very old though. When I questioned him he got even more upset and closed the file. He said well if you feel better now you can make another appointment if you start hurting again. I asked if he wanted to see the injection sites he said no. Then he left the exam room. I feel relief from the treatment but will never go back to this office again. Scary that the doctor doesn't even remember a procedure he performed two weeks before. I have no idea how good the doctor is because I've been trying to make an appointment for almost three weeks. I was referred to Dr. Brazill for pain management by my PCP. So I first called on December 9, 2020. A woman answered the phone and I told her I was referred and I needed to set an appointment. She looked up my referral and noted that it was for neuropathy pain and stated that she is not allowed to set appointments for neuropathy patients without asking the doctor's permission (why? I have no idea) and said she would put a note on his desk and call me back. I called back 8 hours later and she said she never got an answer and she would call me but if I didn't hear from her in a few days to call back. I didn't hear back so I called 3 days later and explained to a different person and was transferred to referrals, which went straight to voicemail, so I left a message. No return call the following week, so I called again. Again, transferred to referrals, got VM, left another message. No return call. Cue Groundhog Day, same repeat a few times. Never got a call back and it is now 20 days later, December 29, 2020. I was referred to pain management because I am in severe pain 24/7 and I can't even set an appointment. Today, I called one more time, sent to referrals, got VM, hung up. There seems to be no point in leaving messages. I called my PCP and requested a different referral to another PM doctor and they said okay, it will take a few days, call back on Tuesday for the referral. They actually answer and return calls. I've never experienced this level of uncaring incompetence by a doctor's staff. Oh yes, during the initial call, she did mention that if it was for back pain she could set the appointment no problem. So my theory is there must be no money in treating neuropathic pain. My friend thinks the doctor believes it's not a painful enough condition. Who knows? But I must say neuropathic pain is considered by credible doctors to be one of the most intractable forms of pain. Dr Brazill and his PA Amy are good, professional and considerate people. They show compassion like they really care about your well being. When you start talking beyond them, like the staff, TUH!!!... Oh they suck, rude lazy unprofessional. It's always something with them. It seem like the simplest things couldn't get done, nothing is in a timely manner, phone sometimes would ring ring ring, leaving messages seemed pointless, and sometimes they would say they called back already or they will call back and never really do. Just too many issues here with the staff that makes you not want to deal with the place at all. Which is why I had to go. ! HORRIBLE RECENT VISIT ! 01/10/2020 After waiting two hours in a very full waiting area. I heard an assistant say that all the patience were for Dr. John Brazil. I waited in pain patiently. I finally got in the back and when he came in the room his demeanor was not pleasant. I tried to ask a question and he talked down to me. His answer to me made me feel belittled and stupid. I was taken back and very tired and overwhelmed in a lot of pain. He was quick and didn't help me in anyway, not at all. No pain resolution. No explanation of what was wrong and what the next step would be. I highly DO NOT recommend Dr John Brazil. I left to my car in tears. I hope no one has to feel that way or have a bad visit. This is the most disorganized office I've seen in all my life. Anytime you call to speak to someone they just send you to a voicemail that never returns your call. I had an appointment three times this week and everyone of them had been rescheduled. You never see the same doctor, so they have no clue what is wrong with you and it's like you have to start all over again. I have been with this office for almost 10 years now. The waiting time is horrible. I've spent from a few minutes to almost 2 hours there, but it's worth it. Dr. Brazil is extremely caring and wants to do what he can to help. The reason the waiting time has been so long is because Dr. Brazil takes the time to really listen to his patients. I've been transfered from Lags spine off 34th street. This is my second visit in June 2021, and let me start by saying, I know its still covid season! But my appointment was for 1:00 sharp, I got there early 12:20 to be exact! At 1:00 I was weighed in than put in room #1, thinking cool. I'm first. By the time 2:30 came around I was pretty upset! I ended up seeing another Dr, he was nice, got out of there in 5 minutes once I'd seen him! So I asked for him personally my next visit! If my review was just for Dr Brazill, it would be 5 stars! He is a great Dr. He communicates well and he is a pleasant person, I am always well pleased. With his staff included I have to lower. It may not be their fault, they may have more workload than they can handle, but wait times are long, and most of the time calling the office, there is a message to leave your name and they will call you back. The staff at this office, is so very bad, that if it wasn't so frustrating, it would be absolutely funny. If you are lucky enough for the girl up front to answer the phone, you are transferred to a recording in the back. It is impossible to get a word in before you are transferred to the recording. So, unless you are in the office in person, there is nothing that can be done for you by calling in. You cannot count on the girls in the back, they are not in a hurry to get anything done, nor do they care about doing it correctly. None of them seem to have any experience in the medical field. When you do have a chance to speak with them, they are very rude, and never apologize for the delay or their numerous errors. One of the girls in the office called in all the prescriptions incorrectly, because she did not know the correct abbreviations for dosage. They never follow up on getting medical authorization for a medication or a referral to another doctor. The last time we were seen in the office, our medications were not called in that day. We started calling the day after the appointment (being sent straight to the medication refill line recording) and have left 6 messages. We still have not gotten any calls back. Lately, we have just started showing up at the office, to try to get some answers. Everyone else in the office, was there for the same reason. The insurance is reimbursing the office at a very high level but the visit normally lasts less than 2 minutes. Three of our visits this year, the provider walked in, and said what is your pain number today? Then asked if there was any changes in medication since the last visit. Then they walked out, and the visit was over. For someone with severe back pain, that is just waiting for insurance to authorize surgery and work to allow time off, this is extremely disheartening. A couple of the PA's on staff have been great, but even they vent about how bad the office staff is, and how they can't deal with them theirselves. Any complaints to the office manager go ignored. If you ask the staff yourself, who the office manager is, they pretend they don't have one. But all messages and complaints left for Diana have gone unanswered. I would only recommend going to Bakersfield Pain Management, if you had zero pain, had very low expectations from the office staff and already knew all the answers yourself. If you would like a very rude, very unprofessional, very uneducated interaction with a medical assistant that has zero empathy or kindness, this is the office for you. read more

I have been a patient of Dr Brazill for a little over a year now, maybe two. I have to say Dr Brazill is amazing. He knows his stuff and is wonderful at what he does. Love Dr Brazill. The problem and reason I will not be going back is the staff. The girls that work in the back, specifically Raquel and Ashley are beyond rude. I have left his office the last time in tears! Today I went in for my appointment only to be told that the Dr was on vacation and they called to cancel my appointment. I had no such call. I asked when and who called, this they cannot provide. When they are telling me that they called they are looking down and will not look me in the eye or face. So we all know that they did not call and they are making it up... regardless I need to see the Dr to get my test results. Next appointment is over a month away! When I told Ashley that was unacceptable she told me that she was not going to argue with me, she had better things to do. Meanwhile the other girls were snickering and giggling. By this time I am in tears. I told them that I need to make arrangements to get my medical records to go to another Dr. Their response... huh well we see more that 50 patients a day. So in other words they won't miss me. I will miss Lisa at the front desk and Dr Brazill. The remaining staff I hope that I don't have to deal with again. Unbelievably rude! Ps this app does not allow me to give no stars... so 1 is what I had to put. Almost one year later and I am pleased to say that I am still a patient at this facility. Due to the new restrictions on pain management procedures and medication regulations in California I was not able to move to another pain management Dr. Although I exhausted every option I had trying to find another Dr because I was so fed up with the staff. I am very excited to say that they have made many changes in the office and things are running much more smoothly. Some new faces behind the counter definitely helped and new attitudes are also very beneficial as well. When I mentioned it to one of the employees I was told that they now have weekly meetings and have really been working hard to change things. I for one can say that it is working. The last few visits have been very good. Thank you Dr Brazill and staff for making these very needed changes! We all appreciate it! read more

I have been a patient with Bakersfield pain management for about three years now. Dr. Brazill is a very competent Doctor who is good at the treatments that he gives. However, this is the worst run doctors office I've ever been to. No one will answer the phone during normal business hours. No one will call you back if you leave a message. When you go into the office you should expect to wait at least two hours before seeing the doctor. I wouldn't say the staff is rude, but they are not overly nice or helpful either. Ultimately I deal with it because the injections and medicines he has given me has helped, but it's a real pain in the butt. read more

Horrible Dr. This doctor has no interest in helping my elderly mother. He had a accusatory tone thru out our visit and absolutely zero bedside manner. My mother has had severe headaches due to kidney failure as well as debilitating back pain. The doctor was rude and condescending during the visit. He offered no help at all to try and help my elderly mother. The Dr. recommended my 80 year old mother go to rehab which would cause her to suffer probably a heart attack or stroke. I've read through the reviews, and feel the need to add my review of Dr. Brazill and Bakersfield Pain Management. Both my brother (who has a progressive neurological disease that leaves him in constant pain) and I have seen Dr. Brazill and his PA's for years. We would not ever consider changing pain management doctors. Like some of the other reviewers, there were some issues we experienced with his staff, one in particular. She no longer works there, fortunately. The wait time used to be rather long, but that has improved greatly now they have two PA's in addition to Dr. Brazill. My latest visit was with Dr. Brazill himself, and was a little less than an hour from when I arrived to the time I left. That included time to take my vitals, the periodic drug test, a lengthy conversation with Dr. Brazill about epidural options, scheduling the medical procedure, and getting my prescription. My last visit to my primary care doctor took longer than that. As a long-time patient needing pain management, and experiencing the staff at Dr. Brazill's office, let me tell you some things about the place and especially the situation. With this "opioid crisis", pain management doctors are under intense scrutiny. Us patients (who are not abusers and really need pain management) must go for an actual doctor visit every other month to continue to receive our prescriptions. The amount of regulations and scrutiny continue to squeeze patients and particularly doctors into a tighter and tighter corner. I worry that it will only be a matter of time before we will no longer have pain management options and just have to tolerate the pain. So people on pain management need to see the doctor at a minimum of every other month. No wonder the place is busy! Spend some time watching the interaction of patients with the staff (as I have) and you will see as I do some of the challenges the staff has to endure. Not all patients are great to work with. Especially those who are pushing back against the very tight parameters that pain management doctors operate under. I've seen patients take it out on the staff. One more thing... It was Dr. Brazill and his skill in writing and explaining medical issues that was responsible for my brother receiving permanent disability status with social security and medicare. My brother's disease is progressive, debilitating, non-curable, and will eventually result in an early death. Yet social security wanted to classify him as potentially recoverable and that he is capable of working at least part time. Dr. Brazill's letter spelled out the reality of his condition in clear and direct terms. My brother owes his meager social security disability check, his medicare status, and his peace of mind knowing his basic needs are covered to Dr. Brazill, and he is very thankful for that. read more

All I can say is that the wait time to see a Dr is unacceptable. Too many providers and not enough rooms. This may be my last visit here as I am sick and tired of waiting more than an hour to see the Dr. It does not appear that all patients have to wait only if you are using Workers Comp. The office is equivalent to what I can only describe as a welfare clinic. I thought at first that the reason it took so long to be referred to a specialist was because of workers comp, but have since discovered the staff are incompetent. I along with my father usually go to the Southern California orthopedic center and it is so nice, clean and professional. This place is by no means state of the art, and the staff are also sub par. We had to go see Dr. Brazil for an epidural shot, because our doctor was on vacation and we really needed one. My dad was going the day before me and he arrived on time and everything went pretty fast, until I was in the waiting room for 2 hours and I was thinking he would be in recovery any second. The nurse calls me back and informs me that he has not gone to have his procedure yet. My dad is pretty easy going so he was just irritated. I asked the nurse what happened, and she said that the Doctor went to lunch, and she said that "you want him to eat, so he doesn't mess up and kill you" wow that was pretty intense. I understand that you have to take a lunch, but if you call your patient back into the pre op area at 10, and he was supposed to be out by 11, why would you then decide to take a lunch at noon without seeing your patient that was waiting. The actual procedure that the doctor does is less than 15 minutes. I then explained my concern to the nurse and the staff and they said they could not explain what happened, but they never apologized. My dad was finally taken back to the surgery room, but that was just smoke and mirrors, because the doctor was still not back, we ended up waiting 3 hours before he even got seen by the doctor. This is not state medical it's a PPO. I am not going to my appointment tomorrow. I see that one reviewer stated that they are "usually" on time, so I guess sometimes he is late. Look, I understand that sometimes even the best people have their off days, so maybe they were just having a really off day. However, the fact that they did not show any sympathy or apologized for the mishap makes me believe that this happens quite often. read more

Before the last couple of months, my rating would have been much higher. After being a patient for five or more years, I have to say that Dr. Brazill is no longer managing pain. I don't know whether he is in trouble with over-prescribing or is afraid of the regulations now. But whatever the case, I see his level of compassion and care of the patient no longer his priority. Was refered by scoi for an epidural due to severe pain in my back from bulged disks, ended up getting the consult and scheduled, office seemed ok and legit. But after the epidural was done I got so sick and was in bed almost a week. After calling dr Brazil's office 3-4 times and speaking with a nurse, she told me there was absolutely nothing they could have done to make me sick. So 2-3 days later I couldn't walk, Felt like I was dieing I went to urgent care. Luckily the doctor on staff was an er doc at Bakersfield heart hospital, after telling him my symptoms he called the staff at Bakersfield heart hospital and I was rushed over there. Put me in an mri machine found a spinal leak from the epidural, I was told 2-3 more days I could have stroked out or got a horrible brain infection and could have died. I had to get a blood patch to stop the leak. It was definitely something you guys did abs didn't warn me about. I was also told that you could see leakage if you would have paid attention. Your nurses are horrible and non responsive to patients needs, I even waited 25 mins in the phone to speak to one... stay away from this place is not ran efficiently. Your a number and they could care less. I refuse to pay the remainder of my bill because that hospital stay cost me 1000s tempted to file a formal complaint. read more

The staff is very unprofessional and Dr. Brazille is so rude, have no bedside manner, and never looks at you. He stares at your chart and writes while your talking. I have been a patient of Dr Brazill 's for 5+yrs. I would highly recommend him. Yes I have waited to see him for over an hour or so. But if you knew Dr. You'd know he's a talker. And he will talk to you if needed. There's times I've been in with him maybe 15min. It all depends on your needs and his. Because some patients require a little extra time and from that point on he's behind on his schedule. I'm sure these other reviewers are always on time and never leave anyone else waiting. And as for the staff these Women work their butts off. Dr has numerous patients and that's just his. The staff also have the patients for the other Dr's as well. These women have gone to bat for me many times with the insurance companies. They try to get back to you as for returning messages left. I've received call backs and check ups as late as 8pm and sometimes over the weekend. And if they were actually being treated the way the way that one reviewer described I don't think they would still be working there. But at least 4 of them have been with him longer than I know. And I've never heard a bad word from them regarding the Dr. And I've never heard the Dr. speak rudely to his staff. Granted I'm not there 24/7 but I use to think I should have my own room. But over the years I'm slowly getting better. I have multiple problems that will take time. And if it wasn't for the Insurance companies telling him what I can have or can't have I truly believe that I would be even further in my treatment. SO FINALLY I HIGHLY RECOMMEND DR. JOHN BRAZILL AND HIS STAFF. The only way I would change Dr's, is if the Insurance company that I have for that year or two makes me. And I have a PPO policy also. read more

Dr Brazil is the best very caring and nice but his staff his horrible no compassion at all

i have been going there for almost 5 yrs, given all urinal teats, ans all have come up clean. one appt I asked them to test me on my own recognizance, and after 2 weeks they told me that I tested positive for meth. why would I ask them to test me if iwas to test positive for meth. Personally thier staff has a whistleblower and Unfortunately I was considered a scapegoat. I pleaded with them to give me another test on the spot, but they said sorry you've been discharged. just like that, I was treated like a prisoner and escorted out. my primary doctor pescribed me clonazepam for my sleep diorder and alprazolam for my anxiety and it is all documented. But on thier drug urinalysis report it was stated that it was not authorized by them, even when i was told to go to my primary doctor to obtain the nedication needed for me. I was told that I was going to get a personal call from Dr. Brazil. But I find that Highly unlikely. I have done nothing wrong for almost 5yrs and now they decided to just dump me as a # and not ad an undivudual. U am not some 25yr old with a boo boo on his elbow. I have legitimate problems with my back, nerves in my back.muscle sores in both of my legs, 2 broken femurs a broken left forearm , crushed left cheek ,a fracture in my skull Broken left ankle. and now that colder weather is approaching, my pain is becoming more and more unbearable and these are all compounded fractures, not just cracks. i was given medication which worke wonders, then they decided to cut me down, so t tried cutting down myself, trust me a few er visits were needed. but in the long run i was able to rid if myself of 1 particular meds to an extent that i was given, and that med was methadone , which works great, i just do not know why i was taken off it. the reason why i tried to get off of methdone is because a cedtain new P A told me i was taking 3 times as much as i could have been killed. But my ekg and heart tests showed nohing abnormal From what I know, I was being intimidated I just want to feel better and normal just like before this new PA That came in snd started to play headgames with me and scare me seens like he wats to help me, but does the opposite Now i am almost 51 yrs old i do not have time to play gamesI am a heavy duty truck mechanic, and at almost 51 I still have to work and carry items which weigh almost 80lbs I stiil have at leadt 18 yrs to go before i can retire. sorry for explaining so much, but this is my life I am talking about. thank you.. read more
