I've purchased a couple of rugs from here before, but my last visit prompted this review. I went to ZGallerie in Tysons and fell in love with a rug there. At $300 plus shipping and a hassle to return (had to ship back to the warehouse myself), I went to Bakersfield. I was shocked they carried the exact same rug as ZGallerie AND at $50 less, AND in stock. So, I went ahead and purchased it. The sweet sales lady "Heaven" told me about their low price guarantee: If I find it anywhere else in any store, even online, I'd get the difference plus 5%. Wha-what?? This, of course, became a fun Sunday night challenge for me. I searched online and found the same rug for even cheaper and sure enough, the sales manager called me the next day and issued a refund over the phone for the difference plus 5%. You can't get better customer service than that. On a different note, I bought another rug at Neiman Marcus and ended up finding the exact same one at Bakersfield at a fraction of the cost. I'm just going to quit looking for rugs anywhere else. Bakersfield prices and customer service are unbeatable. read more

My husband and I recently bought a home and needed to outfit it with some rugs as we have hardwoods throughout. We often pass this place to/from running errands, so we decided we would stop in. So glad we did! The storefront doesn't convey this, but the showroom is really large and very open feeling once inside. There is a wide variety of rug styles to choose from (transitional, oriental, modern) and most are hanging from racks so you can look through them easily. We also really appreciated the customer service...the employees were willing to pull rugs from the bottom of piles and help us compare different patterns, etc at the drop of a hat. Also, they were on top of their game and realized when we needed a couple minutes to ourselves to talk options over. The best part was that we were allowed to take the rug home to try in our house for a week. If we didn't like it...just bring it back for a full refund. We took advantage of this and changed our mind a couple of times after seeing it in our home. We will definitely be returning. read more

We bought a 9'x13' rug here for our living room after casual searching for several months. We found what we wanted pretty quickly after walking in so the saleswoman didn't have to do much work. After being told it would arrive in 1-2 weeks, it actually took 3. After I called to inquire about the arrival date, the manager was very apologetic, followed up with me throughout the third week with updates from their distributor and even threw in a 4'x2' rug for free. Prices range from what you would see at a discount home furnishings store up to very high (for items like large, hand-woven wool rugs). Staff was helpful when we entered and showed us the the area of the store with the size rugs we were looking for, left us alone while we took our time to browse (prices are clearly marked), and then helped us purchase as soon as we had made a selection. Had a great experience shopping for area rugs. Went in just to browse for one dining room rug that was contemporary in style, would hide stains, and didn't shed. I would've thought that was a tall order but the salesperson Michael was very knowledgeable and shared with me what to look for while narrowing down my options. He was not pushy at all and gave us a lot of room to make up our mind. They had a really good price in place (this was just an average weekend) so we ended up walking out with one large rug that day, ordered a second one they had sold out of, and today we went back for some small door mats. Don't expect any consultative assistance. The two young ladies are need knowledgeable and prone to help somewhat but the older gentleman seemed irritated by it all. Ultimately I found a great carpet and was even able to get a matching runner and padding for both. So I guess the one stop shop of it all, counts for something as well. I've bought area rugs in department stores, oriental-carpet specialty stores, fly-by-night liquidation auctions, wherever. But long ago, this place evolved into my go-to, all-purpose store, whenever I need a carpet. At the very least, it's where I always start--because the selection is good (at a variety of price points), and the value is competitive enough to be my "measuring stick," if I decide to widen my search to other stores. Their personnel are also great to work with--flexible and prompt service, if you wish assistance (or, if you're like me--a loner browser--they stay out of your way...no pressure). Heaven helped us. She was so nice. This is a very large place with a ton of rugs. Rugs ranging from (what I seen) $500-$2000 and they had rugs larger than 10x12. We went with a white and grey 7 1/2x 10 1/2 rug for $600. Plus a 2x3 matching rug for the kitchen for $39. We will most definitely shop here in the future if we need another rug!!! read more

The store is clean, and the rugs are displayed well. (That is the only reason I gave two stars.) However, the service was poor. When I first walked in, several of the employees looked right at me without greeting me. When someone finally came over, she told me where to find different sizes but was not friendly or very helpful. When I asked to speak to the manager, he was even worse. I asked if the store was locally owned, and he told me he didn't know. To top it off, the sales woman botched my purchase somehow and made the machine decline my credit card. When I spoke to the bank, they told me the charge was cancelled by the store. Finally, I asked the sales woman to try the card again while I watched her do it, and it went through without a problem. If I did not need a rug urgently and had time to look other places, I would not have spent a dime at this place. I definitely will not go back. There is a reason you shop at family owned establishments - they believe in customer service. I recently purchased a rug at Bakersfield - one of the owners, Mike, assisted me with my purchase. About two months later it became apparent that I had purchased a defective rug. Without hesitation, Mike offered me an exchange or refund and asked that I bring the rug into the store. ONE PROBLEM - since purchasing the rug, I had moved to California. Careful not to inconvenience me, Mike asked me to film the condition of the rug and send it to him via email for his review. After seeing the poor quality, and obvious manufacturing defect, he immediately offered me a refund. Working with this store was seem less, both in the sales phase and after wards when I was experiencing issues with the product. I would highly recommend Bakersfield. It was clear to me that this store understands the need to take care of their client base and they go above and beyond to ensure their clients are satisfied. High quality rugs for an excellent price! When my husband and I moved to Falls Church a few years ago, I started the search for a new dining room rug. I looked at several places including; Home Depot, Lowes, Macy's, JCPenneys, along with a couple of on-line sites recommended by friends. I had initially avoided Bakersfield Rugs which is very near my house because I feared it was a boutique type store with outrageous prices - was I wrong! I was amazed to find that not only were prices at Bakersfield lower than most of the other places I looked, the quality was exceptional. I purchased 2 rugs that day - an 8'x10' for the dining room and a runner for the foyer. The runner wasn't quite the match I thought it would be and when I contacted the store, they told me to bring it back for a full refund or exchange. I was hooked on Bakersfield! Just recently, our church - St. Paul's Episcopal in Bailey's Crossroads, updated the rector's office and I had the task of purchasing a new area rug. For me, that meant only 1 thing, a trip to Bakersfield Rugs. When I told the staff what I was looking for they were very helpful. I was undecided between 2 rugs and was told I could purchase both and return the one that didn't work within 7 days for a full refund without a restocking penalty. It seems I've been to alot of rug stores lately trying to find just the right sized and right looking rug. The rugs at this store are not really high end or low end, but somewhere in the middle. At least that is my perception when comparing prices and quality at other places I checked out. The prices on oriental style rugs can border on outrageous at some stores but the prices at this store seemed reasonable for what you are gettting. The sales staff was friendly and helpful. The three star rating comes mainly from the selection. That being said I did end up purchasing two smaller rugs. I would say they are worth checking out if you are nearby. They are located a good distance and alot of stoplights from the beltway. Warning: Do not attempt to get to this store during rush hour. Go on the weekend or during off hours. The traffic in this part of town is hellish after about 2:30PM. read more
