This was the best massage I've had. I came in with severe back pain from muscle tightness and a tension headache and the lady went to town. I honestly think I was transported to a different dimension of pleasure as she fought a battle against my knots. It was fantastic. Went there for an hour massage with a Groupon coupon. I'm not from town so I appreciated the owner sending me a picture of the building via text so I would recognize it. That was a nice touch. I also really appreciated that they're open seven days a week and that I could schedule massage on a Sunday morning. That is awesome! Ample parking, which is great for uptown. The business is very clean with a very nice ambience. The people are friendly. My masseuse, Lili, was wonderful. Her strong, skilled hands found all my knots, and worked on them skillfully. She checked in with me frequently to see how I was doing, which I appreciated. I felt much better after my massage. I will be going there regularly I think. The only surprise was an additional five dollar charge after the massage, in addition to what I paid on Groupon??? That was unexpected and seemed a little weird. still, all in all, I had a very good experience. I will be going again. read more

Got a good deal for an hour long massage for a couple (Groupon). The owner is very friendly and she is one of our masseuses. We felt relaxing in room right away. They do provide a discounted rate for repeat visits which is cheaper than what Groupon offers. My wife thinks they have done a much better massage than Massage Envy. I will be the judge to that. I really wanted to like this place.... It's Uptown, you would think a business surviving in Uptown, paying Uptown rent would have a good handle on their craft and have a good following... at least that was my assumption when I said ok to the massage. This was a gift from a friend, who always, always, always, buys our massages on Groupon. I told him after this: NO MORE GROUPON MASSAGES! The first one was HORRIBILICAL... TERRIPOSTICAL (yes, I'm aware of my new words... just understand how bad they were if i'm taking a spin at new words in the American language). On to this one! Ambiance: Cute, small shop in Uptown. Tons of street parking, meters located on Lake or Irving (crossroads of business). It's nicely decorated. Customer service: The service was pleasant upon entering.. we were greeted well by 3 friendly women. We even saw a customer leaving as we were arriving, so it appeared to be legit to me! I found out they don't have a private restroom and you have to share the building restroom with the other businesses... little awkward mid-massage to have to redress and put back on shoes, just to tinkle... moving a long..... Service: I'll start by saying that my friend enjoyed his massage. You're provided an option for either deep tissue or relaxation. I chose relaxing and he had a deep tissue. We both work out and the weights we use cause us both to have a lot of tightening. So he enjoyed his massage. I did not. My lady didn't appear to know what she was doing and was winging it. She stood in front of me kept rubbing my back and her entire body up against my head. It's not relaxing to have other ppls clothes and body pressed up against your head. I literally did NOT receive a massage, but i was simply "rubbed" for 45-60 min. With an occasional elbow in my shoulder in the same exact spot or she rubbed my butt. She also took my arms and tried to stretch me out and my legs in odd postions that actually hurt me more. I left with my shoulder, which is already damaged, (messed up rotator cuff) and left with it hurting because she surprised me and pushed it above my head and then leaned her weight on it.... like it felt good. That was it. His massage girl may have been licensed, but mine COULD NOT HAVE BEEN. She didn't massage me... hands were not strong and she kept sticking her nails in the bottom of feet. I wanted to ask her were they rough? lol She didn't massage them either, just rubbed my ankle. *insert shrug* I was ready for it to be over, but didn't say anything because we were doing a couples massage together to relax. I wonder why so many 5-star recommendations are not included in Balance Massage's average, because they are superb! Sherry always figures out where I am sore which is why I appreciate they don't ask me where to focus on at the start. (It's always somewhere else...) This is NOT where you go for one of those "I could sleep" relaxing massages - go see them if you're 100% committed to undoing your all your tension - and also, if you love intense pressure point work & relief. Relaxing massages only seem to provide a couple days of relief, but Balance Massage always makes sure I'm good to go for a month or two, and the rates couldn't be better! I just ran out of their business cards after recommending them to several more friends. I recommend them highly for a no-nonsense traditional massage and so does my former D1 athlete partner! Came here today for a 90 minute massage. I didn't catch my masseuse's name but man she was good! Strongest masseuse I've ever had. I didn't have to tell her where any of my problem areas were she found the right away and work on fixing them. I don't think this is the type of place you go to for a relaxing massage, don't get me wrong it wasn't not relaxing! It's just the type of place you come to if you really need some fixing! Let me start off by saying that the massage itself was actually pretty good, which is too bad because it was ruined some of the other factors of the experience. First, I walked in about 10 minutes early and my masseuse seemed extremely stressed that I was early. She did not introduce herself, did not ask any standard massage questions (where are your problem areas, pressure preference, etc.) and led me to a cold, dark room. She didn't start the relaxing music until about 20 minutes into the hour long massage so it was a very awkward beginning. She also did a lot of walking around the room, seeming to arrange things- I guess I don't actually know since I was face down- which stole a lot of actual massage time from me. We finally got into a good massage rhythm until her phone dinged! If you thought it was unprofessional to not only have your phone in the room with you but to have it on volume on it gets worse- she then grabbed her phone, and with one hand still one me replied to the text. I knew this because she had set the phone next to me and I heard the whoosh of the 'text sent' tone. I was not only frustrated and annoyed that this had happened I felt uncomfortable and violated as I was naked and she had a phone with camera taking abilities out and next to me. I will be reaching out to them for that for sure, I'm not only upset about my lost massage time but my privacy feeling breached. Besides all that the massage was fine. read more

I attended Balance for a couples massage with my boyfriend. I found this place on Groupon and they said they would match my price and let me pay them directly instead of paying through Groupon. The room was filled with odd stuffed animals and random Christmas decorations on the walls. The two masseuses did not introduce themselves. At one point, my masseuse (which I found out as I was paying at the end, Lisa) had me on my stomach and lifted my arms up behind me, and pulled to the point where my back was arched and my breasts were completely exposed for a solid 5-10 seconds, doing this 2x. One, this one painful, and two, I was completely exposed to the other masseuse and her and did not appreciate that. They both stretched our legs (me and my boyfriends) and 'bounced' them to further stretch into a straddle. I also found this painful - and this could absolutely hurt somebody. I appreciated the strength of Lisa's massage on the parts of my back that needed it, but this whole experience was thrown off when my back was arched and my boobs were out for quite some time. read more
