This was one of the most painful, unrelaxing massage I have ever received. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When I arrived, I was told to go upstairs and find my massage therapist. It was a little uncomfortable wandering around[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. I found him in a room upstairs and explained I was here for my massage. The therapist said he guessed he could work on me??? This was a strange comment, since I had mad the appointment over a month ago. I was expecting a whole body massage and instead, the massage therapist spend most of the time isolating on one point on my neck. I immediately got an ocular migraine afterwards. I was told to go home and ice my neck. It's been two days and I am still so sore. My experience in 2017 at Awaken for Wellness, was the polar opposite-relaxing, calming, and minimal pain. I was, sorely disappointed by my experience and will not likely return or recommend this business to others. read more

I haven't had the chance to try out the float tanks yet, but I did experience a session in the sauna and the tub plunge, and it was great! I also had some bodywork done with Emily, and she's absolutely amazing. She really takes the time to listen and ensures you're completely comfortable before getting started. Plus, she seemed quite knowledgeable about my genetic disorder, so I'd definitely recommend her if you deal with any chronic pain. The float tank exceeded my expectations. The only problem was that my daughter, who gave me the gift certificate, said it was for 3 sessions for $125.00. I got charged about $50.00 for the first session - so that is not going to be enough for 3 sessions. Hopefully this problem can be resolved when I come for the 2nd sessio. read more

I live around the corner and have been meaning to come here for ages, and finally made a 60 minute massage this past weekend. I booked with Shawn, and he was AMAZING. Truly the best massage I've had! I'm 4 months postpartum and have been carrying a lot of tension and pain in my shoulders and back. Shawn was so inutitive with his work and incredibly attentive to where I needed relief. Really was looking forward to a massage and really wanted to like this place. The good: relatively easy to book. Shawn is extremely nice and hardworking. The bad: place is worn down, dingy sheets and massage bed smelled and had dirty stains. Hard to relax when the massage bed and room was dirty, smelled aggravates allergies because it is dusty/muggy. I could tell that they don't wash the massage table covers after use which felt a bit disgusting. I had to ask for a clean towel to cover. Despite being super nice the massage with Shawn was super painful for me. Awkward communication after repeatedly asking for lower pressure I felt bad asking over and over again because of impairments which I understand he can't do anything about. Massage left me with a headache and soreness. If you like pressure then he might be your guy. I was looking to relax and relieve stress and despite putting that on my intake the experience was not relaxing. I also didn't think the price was fare in comparison to other massage places I have been who offer better quality experience. read more

As much as I'd love to be leaving a positive review right now, I am not. I was so excited to bring my partner to Awaken for Wellness for a massage and sauna experience because she has terrible migraines and I just knew this would help. Imagine my surprise when I left utterly disappointed with both the therapist (Nichole) and the lazy communication style of the receptionists on duty. My partner and I arrived 15 minutes early as this was our first time receiving a service and were happy to wait upstairs. It wasn't until 5 after 10:00 (her appointment was scheduled for 10:00 am) that I began to question myself. "Did I schedule an appointment at the wrong Awaken?", I wondered. Nope... The receptionist came up around 10:10 am to tell me she was going to check and see if Nichole was there because she hadn't seen her come in. Honestly, I don't understand why that wasn't mentioned BEFORE 10:00 am. If our therapist hadn't arrived, why not communicate that? Why let us sit there for 25min with no communication? That doesn't make sense to me. It was obvious that Nichole wasn't there when the receptionist tried to quickly slide past us back downstairs mentioning that she was going to call Nichole to see if she was on her way. When she came back to us, not only was Nichole running late, but she also wouldn't be there for another 30 min (putting us at 10:40 am) and now it feels like you're just playing with my time. With all that said, yes, I was offered free services if I was willing to come back later that day. Yes, the receptionist did try to rectify the situation after the fact. But after the vast lack of communication by the receptionist and the unprofessionalism displayed by the therapist, Nichole, I'm don't think I'll ever be interested in visiting Awaken for Wellness again. I enjoyed the additional amenities in the room (suggestion: adding lotion, I find that most necessary and just assumed it would be included since I was used to having it at a different float spa. Amazing first float thanks to staff and facilities. I was greeted by Jake (?) who set the tone for the experience with a very warm and comfortable demeanor. He went through everything I needed to know and gave advice of how to have a great float and get the best out of it. Spa was very clean and well kept. There is a shower in the pod room so you have everything you need in one space. Will absolutely be retuning for a float and to try their other services. *first time float I would suggest a max of 60 minutes so can you get used to the nothingness of floating! read more

Just had to write how I was reminded of the recuperative abilities of an infrared session in case someone else is suffering from a slow to heal minor malady. I badly pulled my left hip flexor from too much xc skiing two weekends ago, and it was slow to heal, making it so I could only sleep in one position, and also walking with a limp for a few days. I went in and did the last infrared session (off of a three pack) and WOW! As the heat and perspiration increased, so did the relief from the dull ache that had persisted for almost a week, and kept waking me up. Though time was a factor in the healing process, I had a noticeable improvement from when I left the sauna, compared to when I entered the infrared sauna, and I was pretty much 100% the next day! I found this place through Groupon awhile back, and bought a deal for five sauna sessions. I really love how the staff was professional and friendly, and also how clean this place was. Their website is amazing. It's so detailed. Booking appointments was also hassle free as you can do it online (or so I thought - keep reading). I first learned about the float spa through their website. I was always interested in booking a float session - just never got around to it. Fast forward a year later - I found a Groupon deal and thought this was my time to try. I called to try to make a rsvp for my friend and I, however, no one picked up. So a few seconds later, I got an automated text from Awaken. It asked me if I wanted to make a rsvp and that I can do it via text. So I booked us for Sunday morning via text, or so I thought. We walked in the day of our appointments and was told we weren't in the system. I was like wtf!!! I was so pumped and ready to float - we have been looking forward to this in a very long time. I showed Molly, the receptionist my texts. She was sincerely and genuinely very apologetic about the situation. I guess there was a glitch in the system at the time I supposedly booked the appointments. So the float rooms were all booked that day. I was so upset but I wasn't overreacting since Molly was so nice. She offered us to use the infrared sauna for 45 min and provided us towels and water bottles while she looked into the situation. The sauna calmed me down. Thank goodness. Overall, the situation was crappy, but it wasn't Molly's fault. In fact, she was professional and knew how to keep us calm. She was able to reschedule us for a later date, and even gave us each another free float session for later use. Excellent customer service! So for first timers, make sure you book your first appointment with someone on the line. I'm not sure I trust this automated text thing. read more

2021 Update: They now have a float "cabin," which is large and fantastic for those of us with a touch of claustrophobia. Infrared saunas are great as always. They no longer have the salt room I raved about in previous reviews. That's okay. I switched to floating. read more

Wonderful massage from Erin. I wish I had done my research on the sauna. I love saunas! But I need a cold shower or I just feel miserable. I haven't done the float but I assume there are showers in there to rinse off the salt water. The sweaty, hot, sticky drive home sort of ruined my lovely massage and the whole vibe. I heard Awaken has saunas and showers in Hudson so I'll try that location next, but I'm bummed because St Clair is right down the street from me. Please add a shower! read more
