I purchased a BB Studio Reformer with Tower--something I've been dreaming of my entire adult life, ever since discovering Mari Winsor's VHS tapes. After raising seven children, I was finally able to save enough to create my dream home Pilates studio. I have degenerative back disease and found Pilates more effective than physical therapy, so this wasn't a luxury purchase--it was medical equipment and a necessary investment in my health. Cassie was wonderful throughout the purchasing process, and I purchased additional equipment to complete my studio. I spent weeks preparing the room for what Balanced Body proudly brands as the "gold standard" in Pilates equipment. Then it arrived. I assembled the reformer, selected a workout from PilatesAnytime, and began my footwork. Almost immediately--bump, bump. Every pass of the carriage, the same two bumps, in the exact same spots. I contacted Balanced Body, and here I am three weeks later after countless emails, phone calls, videos, photos, and troubleshooting attempts--still with defective, brand-new equipment. Despite repeatedly explaining that this was not a wheel issue (the bumps do not occur the length of the rail, they occur in the same two spots every time), I was sent replacement wheels anyway. Changing out eight wheels required hunching over the reformer--an extremely painful process for someone with a back condition. This equipment was supposed to help my back, not worsen it. After reassembling everything, the same bumps were still there. I broke down in tears. Standing in my dream studio with defective equipment from the one company I trusted to deliver the absolute best was devastating. While Russell has been kind during troubleshooting, kindness does not replace functional equipment. The constant bumping is not a minor issue--it is distracting, disruptive, and entirely counter to the mind-body focus Pilates requires. The idyllic experience I had hyped myself up for was crushed. This reformer arrived defective out of the box. I cannot afford to spend even a single additional dollar correcting an issue that is not mine to fix--nor should I be expected to. Any replacement frame and return of the defective one should be fully handled by Balanced Body. I have since emailed Russell, Bill, and Akio requesting a replacement frame. This experience cannot be undone, but a better one can be created if Balanced Body truly stands behind the reputation and hype it promotes. read more

My Pilates studio uses Balanced Body equipment so I am very familiar with the brand. I currently have a BB spring board and was interested in an EXO chair. I did not know that these are custom made (I could have picked different colors but I went with basic black). The ordering process was easy and transparent (they are clear that is is custom built for you so they inform you when it is completed and ready to ship). They also help you to purchase with your FSA funds. The only snafu was with the delivery. You must be present to accept delivery so I rescheduled the delivery. The shipping company missed the date. I rescheduled again (taking time off from work) and they came past the four hour window. Then they also tried to give me someone else's stuff besides my chair. I'm too honest for that (you're welcome, J. in Libertyville!) although it would have been great to get a reformer too! Customer service is great. I have called several times for delivery issues and installing the reformer. Each person has been really helpful. I am very happy with my first ever reformer, I purchased the metro iq reformer. This reformer is studio quality and made to last. For around 3k with an added jump board I believe it is worth the investment if you are a Pilates lover but can't get by with the studio prices. I always recommend taking studio classes for about 1-2 years consistently so you are educated on alignment and form which would make it safe to exercise at home. I bought my reformer from this group back in 1985 after I broke my neck and back in a ski lift accident. The surgeons told me that the injuries would make me pretty much an invalid by the time I was 50. I have used that reformer 4 times a week, every week since then. JW called me and we discussed design, and he sent me his contact information so if I have any concerns going forward I can reach him easily. That is the definition of standing by your product! Recently my Reformer IQ has developed a problem. The telescoping rectangular tube has started to lift off the floor while the straps are in use. DO NOT BUY THEIR PRODUCTS! I ordered the Pilates bench along with the spine fitter. Over 350.00 dollars. I received a Styrofoam bench that probably cost 15.00 to manufacture. When I wanted to return them, they told me the spine fitter was not returnable, but I could return the Styrofoam bench If I paid for shipping. I responded with an ultimatum that I would dispute the charges with my bank. They relented and allowed me to ship both items back. I had to pay 75.00 shipping fee. What a joke and a waste of time. Balanced Body is known as the gold standard for Pilates equipment. I ordered an Allegro 2 with tower after talking with representative Xochitl about availability, expectations, delivery, and quality. My items arrived earlier than expected (but was notified by the delivery company two days beforehand so I had plenty of time to ensure I would be home from work). The delivery crew was AMAZING!!! They were professional, courteous, and helpful. They obviously do this everyday as the service was like a well-oiled machine. After delivery, set-up directions were easy to follow; it took awhile to set-up but that is on me. The quality of the Allegro 2 with tower is amazing. This is a machine that will work past the day of my demise. I did, however, have an issue with the foot bar but requested assistance from Natalie and Xochitl and they both took care of it very quickly. Both were professional, knowledgeable, and realistic regarding the situation. Regarding value of the product, it is exactly what I expected. I did, however, do my homework regarding what the reformer was made out of, what was included, warranty, and pricing with shipping so there were no surprises. I would like to recommend Nancy Tenoglio from Balanced Body. She has been my representative for quite a few years and she has always been informative as to what I have needed over the years and gets back to me with whatever questions I have. I have at different times also gotten in touch with Amalia who has been lovely and with Giscard and he too was very helpful. I do miss the knowledgeable Joe Weiss who has moved on in the company, but the customer service I have received cannot be beat. Especially when you compare it to other Pilates companies. The selection of items at BB is amazing. They have something for everyone: every size, every fitness, almost every wallet. Prices have gone steadily up as in every industry unfortunately, but these things last forever and keep their value. I am truly grateful that ken Endelman fought the good fight back in the 90s to allow everyone to use Joseph Pilates's name to teach Pilates, to manufacture equipment and to better disseminate the method. It is a wonderful company who is still doing wonderful things for the industry. EXTREMELY disappointed with their customer support. I bought $45K of balanced body equipment for my pilates studio and have been referring all my clients to my representative to buy equipment and accessories as well. The incompetent team made a mistake and one client was sent the wrong reformer base hight - and then after he spent over $10K on his home gym pilates equipment Balanced Body is asking him to pay the shipping as if it were his fault for their mistake. This is extremely disappointing and also embarrassing. I've been wasting over a week going back and forth on this matter and it is very frustrating. It is beyond me why they are not apologizing and sending the correct base which I CLEARLY asked for in my original email and sending it expedited to arrive as soon as possible. It is putting my training behind schedule with my client and is a huge waste of everyone's time. I'm trying to run my pilates studio and manage my instructors and my own busy schedule but now apparently I have to micromanage every email and situation going on here because of inability to read an email and follow instructions and I just can't take it. I am opening another studio in the palisades and seriously thinking about using a different brand for my equipment there. I purchased the thick pilates mat and when it arrived I noticed there were major creases in the end obviously due to rolling the mat too tight. I tried to soften with a hair dryer, added weight on the end, and tried everything to make the crease go away. Nothing seemed to work. Contacted the seller and received an email from Randy Thomas. He said basically that is the way the product comes out and there is no guarantee a replacement will not have the same creases. "Hi Rich, There would be no guarantee that the replacement mat we send would be without creases. Most of the Aeromats that we sell will have some sort of crease on them because of the material and thickness of the mat." I wanted this product because it laid flat! Saw it at our gym as it was recommended by my Pilates instructor. None of there dozen or so mats (the same ones as I purchased) had any crease or flaws. Obviously the current generation of these mats are not of a good quality while being expensive. I do not recommend the purchase of one of these mats. Very disappointed the company did not stand behind their product by offering me the option to return, or replace. read more
