This is hands down the best collateral lender in Los Angeles, I've known this family bussiness for 20 years, very friendly, very professional, to the point, and respectful as to the ratio that pawn lenders typically use when considering an amount that is fair to loan. They have never sold me anything that was default. I've always had ample opportunity to test gear, get appraisals from them, and verify that their jewelry is always represented accordingly to its weight and brand.. People often come to pawn shops under duress, this can create an overarching attitude that doesnt make the lenders job any easier.. I have to doubt very strongly that these guys play around with items they are bonded to store with integrity under the laws that govern thees bussinesses.. I've never had any reason to suspect them of unethical business practices. I've been doing business with them for over two decades. I've made dozens of purchases here. I've had expensive jewelry for loan here. They are exceedingly understanding as it applies to foreclosures too. I'd recommend Balboa Pawn to anyone. This year my record player died a slow and painful death, and my spouse wanted me to be able to play my records again. I already knew what I wanted, and decided to buy used first. Balboa had an ad out for an audio-technica ATLP120XBT in stock that looked wonderful. We messaged back and forth and they held it for us. When we walked into the shop it was a place you kind of want to spend time in. It was light, and filled with fun items and a super chill and warm staff. This is extremely rare for any store at this point, let alone a pawn shop. Folks came in to sell while I was there and everyone seemed very kind. We browsed nearly everything and had a really pleasant conversation. In the end we didn't just walk out of the door with the record player, but a few other items we'd been meaning to pick up for ourselves. They even helped us walk purchases to our car. We got some great deals, some quality items, and spent a really lovely morning in a place we will think of first the next time. read more

The staff is helpful and I want to say honest, but they're not. I had to take a loan on my watch for an emergency, and unfortunately things got worse so the watch was there for some time. I've finally been able to pick it up and have noticed a lot of scratches, dullness, and deep scrapes I know was not there beforehand. I barely wore this watch in general and when I did, I took great care of it and would clean it myself. Why is it there are deep scratches near the latch as if something rough or metal was used to open it?? I didnt bring my original tags and papers with me as I was coming from a different direction than home. I should have got them and compared the plastic tag numbers! Because I didnt have them, I didnt bother to ask to see the numbers but I did find it odd it took some time to get my stuff and process the payment. It was also odd that they opened the plastic packaging instead of giving it to me to open. If you do use this place, please make sure to keep your tags, papers and bring them with you and MAKE SURE TO CHECK THE PLASTIC NUMBERS BEFORE THEY START TO OPEN THEM. read more

These folks were excellent. I had a wonderful experience here. I called in advance because i saw an ad for a Matsuoka M80 classical guitar, and went up yesterday. They were kind enough to turn the volume of the music down in the store so I can more accurately assess the sound. It was truly a beautiful instrument. They were very quick and helpful, and patient as I really took a while to get to know the instrument. When I said I wanted it, they also threw in a gig bag, the original case the guitar came with, and the extra strings that were inside the case. What a bargain for such a beautiful guitar! ***Warning***This place will rob you of your property*** I pawned an expensive camera lens to them a while back. I refinanced my loan with them a few times and they took my money and were happy to extend my loan. All the while I believed my lens was being securely stored. When I finally had all the money to take my lens out of pawn I went to the store and paid them. The dude helping me rushed me along and mentioned the store was closing soon. He put my lens in front of me and to my surprise it wasnt wrapped up in plastic very well. I asked him about the poor wrapping and he said the lens is all good and quickly I checked and not seeing any scratches on the outer casing or on the lenses I left the store. When I got home I took another look at the lens and realized an eyelash or hair was inside the lens housing between the front and rear lens. How can this be? I asked a camera store employee and he said the camera had to be taken apart for some reason. Angered by how this pawn shop betrayed me I researched what remedies pawn shop customers have against shady pawn shops and found nothing. So I am writing this review to warn anyone who is thinking about doing any business with ths pawn shop to be very careful or better yet dont do business with them at all. They will go to great lengths to steal from you. read more
