The tour/tasting was well worth the time and money. A great activity while my wife and mother-in-law spent the afternoon at the Silos. It's within walking distance from Magnolia. The guide was knowledgeable, entertaining, and friendly. I was alone, but having others in the tour group took away any awkwardness. Highly recommend. read more

An amazing experience from (in my opinion) the best Texan distillery there is. can't remember the tour guides name off the top of my head, I know he had a big beard and wore a kilt, but he was insanely knowledgeable about the entire distilling process and easily answered every question that was asked by everyone on the tour. The stills are truly breathtaking and the entire facility is immaculately clean and welcoming. I would recommend this place to anyone even if whiskey isn't necessarily "your thing", the history you learn about the city of Waco is well worth the cost of admission. read more

Finally made a visit to what might be the best distillery in Texas. Balcones list of awards is long, prestigious and well deserved recognition of their ability to deliver a consistent product. The tasting room is inside an old brick warehouse. The interior designers showcase the distillery and the products, with attractive displays and exceptional lighting, There are flights, to sample what is for sale. Many products are available only from the distillery - they are not at your local liquor store. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. If you are interested in learning more about good whiskey, especially Texas Whiskey, Balcones is a must visit. They are distilling with pure Texas grains - blue corn, corn, rye and aging them to perfection. Go imbibe. The only downside is the antiquated Texas Blue Laws, which limit an individual's purchase to 2 bottles per month. read more

A neat location in a refurbished factory! The decor is industrial with a lot of wood. There's a parking lot with plenty of space. There's a gift shop with the usual Clothing and stuff. Of course there's whiskey too! The cashier in gift shop was nice and gave us a lot of info but the bar tenders were a little rude. The whiskey sour I had was perfect! It was smooth with a nice touch of sour. The ingredients were all fresh. It was definitely a hipster type place. read more

Fun local tour of Texas' original whiskey distillery. The new facility is 65,000 square feet compared to the old one at 2500. They did an amazing refurb of the 1920's fireproof storage building. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and answered all questions. The tour takes over an hour with tasting and is a neat stop while in downtown Waco. read more

Okay, Waco...I see you! This was a great find right in downtown. Balcones is offering a COVID-conscious tent, but that doesn't mean they're sacrificing quality in the slightest! We got a couple cocktails to start and watched the bartender craft them with care, orange rim and twist and all! Then we tried a Boilermaker...a whiskey and beer combo. What a great way to try all they have to offer! Bar snacks included in the drink price, fun environment, great service....Loved it! read more

Fun little tasting area. The people behind the bar are personable and knowledgeable to boot. Plus they'll give you awesome food recommendations. That aside, I think space was a little bit of an issue since I think a longer bar counter would work well. Then again maybe they want to keep it limited so that it stays more personal. The whiskey was good overall though, but I'm impartial to the rum cask and the true blue. Definitely worth stopping by to try things out and seeing if it fits your bill. read more

First off the whiskey alone should be a good enough reason to visit this distillery. The decor is rustic and feels warm, homey and inviting. Great for large groups or you can dive in solo if you please. You can purchase bottles or purchase souvenirs, I grabbed a few whiskey glasses myself. The drink menu has plenty of options even if you're not a whiskey drinker , they also have other classic cocktails like mojitos, mocktails and much more. I love whiskey so I had the whiskey flight , stellar, fell in love. Staff was extremely helpful, very knowledgeable with everything and helped everyone find something they liked. Pet friendly, I brought my puppy in and without even asking a staff member came and brought her a water bowl. So it goes without saying this is a great place to check out if you're passing through Waco, TX. read more

Was very disappointed in my visit here. Stopped in because I love discovering new whiskeys. Set up of the distillery reminds me vaguely of Scotland in how they present their spirts; but, that where my good experience ended. In the time of COVID it is understandable that the tastings and bar would not be open. My gripe is not due to that. My issue is that the staff seemed very annoyed that we had stopped in. We where never greeted, asked if we need help, or attended to in any way. I made a few attempts to inquire about the whiskey and was met with very short responses that where non descriptive. I usually like to know a little about a spirt before I drop $80+ for a bottle. Needless to say that I walked away not buying a bottle. I was very bummed out because I had read good things about this spot. Maybe someday in the future; post COVID, we can meet again. read more

This place is a great stop if you are in or passing through Waco. Check for their hours and if you can, try to get on a tour! The gift shop has a bar feel to it. You can order flights of different bourbons or you can order a cocktail. We did both and we weren't disappointed!! The decor is really cute and somewhat rustic, the old fashioned was on point, and the workers were very friendly!! I look forward to going back and doing a tour. I've been enjoying the whiskey from this distillery for a couple of years now. This was the first time I physically visited their newer location. They used to be under a bridge!!! I did not do the tour but enjoyed a Whiskey smash in the taprrom. It was made with their Baby Blue or True Blue whiskey. I liked the drink but wasn't a fan of the topo Chico they used to top it off. Nothing against topo; felt it didn't add anything substantial to the drink. The interior gives you this woodsy feel, I consider it to be very masculine. They make a rum/ Brandy in addition to several varieties of whiskey. read more

Excellent choice for a visit if you are a fan of craft brewing. Flavored and traditional bourbon and rums are well described on the menu and deliver the expected flavor profile. Wife tried the Dark & Stormy, Queen Anne's Revenge (both were excellent) and the Rum Rizz which was good but a step below the others. I started with a Manhattan (excellent flavor) and the Bourbon Smash bookended a flight of bourbon. Smash was a good palate cleanse after the bourbon flight which was a great value (generous pours) and very tasteful. Definitely recommend this destination. read more

While I'm not used to 'for pay' tastings this was worth it. We had 2 rums, 2 single batch, 1 smoked brimstone and the baby blue. Single batches (including the pot still) and the Prohibida rum were our favorites. Friendly staff, healthy pours, nice facility- all a good 'first distillery' for my just now legal son and I on a Saturday afternoon. Well worth a visit! read more

I finally got a chance to stop by the distillery and was glad to see the tasting room offered multiple rotating selections, so we settled in for a couple of flights. We visited right after going to Chip and Joannes Magnolia Market. It's a great looking building! We had kids with us so we couldn't go on a tour and couldn't drink because we had to drive home. I'm sure I could give it a better rating once we do both things. We really like their whisky! We were really excited to visit it but there's not a large shop. It's more to tour and sit to drink a flight or so. Still something on our list to do! read more

Let me just start by saying Jack n I are old friends but usually I mix my Jack with a little sprite so I was a little leery of coming here to do a straight whiskey tasting. Especially In TX in August. I wander in on a Saturday evening and ask where the tasting room is. They do offer a tour that has to be booked prior. I think its $15 or $20. Ive done so many brewery/winery tours I wasn't in the mood to be educated. So I went straight to the fun part. There was maybe 6 people sitting at the small bar. Fits maybe 8 folk and some tasting tables with community type seating. Very friendly and knowledgable staff. The tasting is $10 for 3 of their main whiskies. Baby blue, rumble? and a single malt. Baby blue was my fav as it reminds me of Jack. Rumble was OK and the singe malt was a tier above the other 2 which is well indicated as a single full pour of it is $16. The staff give you water, some cracker type deals, and a little water dropper to add water if you think the whiskey is too strong. I never understood adding water to alcohol but now I see why. This is some strong stuff but I resisted adding water. The staff let me sample another version of the baby blue. 1.0 or something it was called. It was noticeably better than the 1 that came with the sampler. I wonder if this is a version the original owner Chip Tate created. If you dont know the history of this distillery do a google search. Interesting history. Still good stuff here and worth a visit if you like whiskey. I left happy and ready for a cold beer read more

This place REEKS..........of fine spirits. Go for the sake of tasting really great whiskey in a cool setting. This old warehouse in the bad part of town has something good for everyone who appreciates craftsmanship. Start off with the single malt and you'll be blown away by the deep, rich and satisfying taste. There are several flavors of whiskey and one in particular is so smoky that you'd swear you've bitten into the burnt end of a charred brisket.......so yummy and it's called Brimstone. I can't wait to taste what this distillery turns up in the future but trust me, the tour will leave you wanting more. read more
