Staying here was an absolute dream! The Ballastone Inn is beyond charming and so uniquely Savannah. The staff could not have been more gracious and helpful. Everyone we interacted with was so personable, welcoming, and friendly. Housekeeping is beyond amazing - each day we returned to a room that felt so fresh and nicely cared for. The Inn is romantic. Breakfast is a continental breakfast served on fine china, and the seating area fosters pleasant conversation with your neighbors. This was our first time staying in Savannah, and the location has the perfect access to everything in the historic district, is a short walk to the river or Forsyth Park in the opposite direction. So charming - a perfect stay!

This inns public areas (lobby, breakfast area) is as beautiful as it gets, right in the heart of savanna, and the service is impeccable. You can't go wrong with booking this inn....unless, you get one of the half basement rooms. Well even then it is not entirely 'wrong' but for the amount of money you are paying - i definitely think you should get a room that is not in the basement. To get to these rooms (I believe one of them is called Low Country), you have to take the back stairs and go down two sets of stairs. Then you walk past the laundry (tumbling during the day) and the kitchen (especially busy during the morning) and get to the end of the hall, where the room is. The furnishing in this room is beautiful, just like the rest of the inn, so old world and colonial, but unfortunately it is only skin deep. The floor is hideous plastic parquet, uneven, so obvious hastily done to expand capacity - there are parts of the floor which suddenly end and parts where there are exposed pipes with wires coming out (??). Similarly the bathroom looks like it is a dorm bathroom. Absolute basic tiles, and very shoddy wooden baseboard work. This is not what can be expected from a room for which you have paid 100s of dollars per night. After all this, when you look out of the window you can see wheels of cars going by (because you are half below the ground) and people staring through the windows. No No No. I didn't want to spoil our one Valentine's day there by complaining and being difficult but really, this is not the quality to be expected. The best part about the served breakfast was the spice poached pear. The best part of the served tea was the tomato olive swirls. So basically, if you are going to book a stay here - demand that you be put in one of the upstairs rooms. You definitely are paying for it, so dont be short changed.

Real fancy digs. Close proximity to lots of shopping, eating and night life. Very romantic atmosphere, very courteous staff. Delish breakfast choices and my absolute favorite lox and cream cheese with capers on the weekends.. Only complaint was that maybe the windows could've maybe opened, I like to get a good nose full of the morning sky. Off street parking is pretty cramped, but free. because of the age of the establishment and the 'creekiness' of the hardwoods to be mindful of other guest I caught stepping lightly or 'sneaking around' when it wasn't necessary.

Does one have to be staying here to enjoy high tea? Is it open to the public for a fee?

The staff was very accommodating throughout our stay. Being that I lived in Savannah 20 years ago, I have bragged about how incredible Savannah's hospitality is and the staff here definitely showed up. Huge thank you to Joey, Jackie, Cindi, and Darnell or as I refer to them as the dream team for making our stay so incredible. I hope they promote you all into management. Our room was absolutely beautiful and comfortable. Honestly, one of the best beds I have ever slept on. Perfect if you have jet lag. I love that the toiletries have peppermint so you repeal bugs, which is a must in the south. Great alternative if you forget the bug spray. There's a coffee bar, restaurant, and a speakeasy bar that was Alice and wonderland themed. In the afternoon you are offered champagne, which is such a nice touch. They have bikes available to sightsee rather than walking. This hotel is close to everything in case you want to walk and explore shops, dining, etc. Overall, this hotel is beautifully decorated and charming. Something Savannah is known for. I highly recommend this hotel. Especially because it's pet friendly!

You can hear your neighbors :) It's crazy how the elevator was being serviced DURING BREAKFAST one morning and everyone had to use the stairs. It was especially bad because someone in my party needed to use a walker due to their bad knees. We had to carry the walker up and down the stairs and they were literally crawling to go up and down. I asked one of the male staff about it in the front desk and they said that there was nothing they can do and that the elevators will be both back up at 8:30 AM. We went out and took a stroll, came back around 9:00 AM and the elevators were not yet fixed. It was just ridiculous! Later on in the day, they managed to get ONE of the elevators working :) The next morning, we went to breakfast at 7 AM and everything is broken! Only one elevator is working, there is no coffee at all, no pancakes, and even the juice machine got hit! It was honestly insane. If you go on vacation, just go somewhere else.

I didn't explore third building, but I'm aware that there are more rooms there and an entertainment venue too. I received very friendly service for my check-in. Brandon, who helped me and my friend at the front desk, told us what we needed to know about the property and made our first impressions here very warm. The two gentlemen who worked valet, whose names I'm forgetting (sorry!) were also incredibly kind--one made effort to remember both me and my friend's names. the rooms here--beds and bathroom--are lovely, and made more unique with the featured art. I would think that quiet hours for the pool would be 9 PM, but apparently they aren't. I believe they are 10 PM. There was a group of what appeared to be teenagers screaming nonstop for about three hours straight. I don't know, if I was staff at a hotel, I would probably tell them to keep it down after 8 PM, but that's just me. It sounds like the rooms on the other side of the hotel are really noisy as well, so I guess moving and wouldn't have done much. The valet took a really long time in the morning. I wouldn't have minded that if they would have told us in the beginning, but when you check in, they tell you to give them five minutes to retrieve your vehicle. It took the guy 20 minutes to respond to my request (I was first in the queue) and I had to go walk down and grab the car myself because I needed to leave immediately. It sounds like he was managing two properties, so not his fault. When not knowing where the valet was, the front desk wasn't helpful. She kind of dismissed the issue. She did end up calling him, but she didn't act like she cared about our situation at all in the beginning. It actually prompted us to take action and another gentleman waiting for his car went and looked in the valet garage to see if somebody was even there because he was having the same issues. Anyways, my first and last time staying at this hotel. Too many other options in the area. I really need a reliable valet, unfortunately.
