I had a hard time picking a place to stay for our stay and I am so glad I chose Catherine Ward House. The first thing that I loved was the parking. It was no problem finding a spot right outside the house and the few times we drove somewhere we had no problems finding a spot when we came back. It felt save for the car to be on the street and we also felt save walking around. That was another thing I loved about this place. The house was in a quiet area but it was also super easy to walk to anywhere we wanted to go. The house itself is well cared for and the service was great. Our room was large, clean, and comfortable. We booked this several months prior to our trip to Savannah, and it was very easy and reasonably priced. I never would have expected the warm and pleasant welcome we received upon arrival. Our room was quite lovely and clean. The location is in the southern end of downtown Savannah, but well within walking distance of everything. Parking was on the street or down the block at a lot, however there was always a spot available on the street. Every morning, we sat at the elegant dining table and were spoiled with beautiful and deliciously prepared breakfast, along with coffee, orange juice and water. The other house guests were so kind and actually were helpful to help plan your time in the city. It was also fun to learn where everyone had traveled from and share our experiences with them. Each evening, our room was comfortable and clean. The house was just as beautiful as the pictures and I highly recommend them. Leslie was a doll, and the other ladies there were very gracious hosts. The Catherine Ward House is not cheap, but it is beautiful, nicely located next to the beautiful Forsyth Park, and in the hands of an outstanding proprietress. The living room is just beautiful, and I would have liked to have hung out there (but we were too busy sight seeing). Our hostess offered to drive us down to the River St for dinner on our first night, and she gave us a tour along with way. She got me special gluten-free bread and made sumptuous breakfasts. She also let me use her washer and dryer (which was a godsend), gave us a free room upgrade to a more expensive room, and sent our sandals and favorite pillow to us at no charge after we left them behind. Leslie, one of the proprietor's of the Catherine Ward Bed and Breakfast is lovely and makes one feel as if they have arrived home. I simply fell in love with the elegance of the decor with its silky draperies and Italian chandeliers. But beyond the exterior's restored beauty, is the genuine care I felt. An owner who took the time to show us around the generously appointed rooms and who selflessly took the time to personalize a food request. Location is perfect and an easy walk to the many restaurants and parks! You can walk from here too the river with no problem! My wife and I stayed here for our babymoon and were in the back house. The decor was perfect with all of the artwork, bedding, lighting, etc...and really fit the southern charm! We were greeted by the owner when we arrived and she did an incredible job showing us around the property and showing us more about the city as well! Sonja, Sonya, and Leslie did a fabulous job making us feel welcome and comfortable at the Catherine Ward House! The house is located right next to Forsyth Park which is beautiful and an easy and scenic walk down Bull Street to everything else you could possibly want to see or do. As soon as we arrived we were given information on parking, tours, restaurants and breakfast (all of the things we were interested in). Sonja set us up with some trolley tickets and some restaurant ideas and we set off. Some of the recommended places that we ate at were The Mansion (ate at the bar- decent burger), Alligator Soul (Sonya made a reservation for us, it is upscale and extremely worth it- simply heavenly), and Vinny Van GoGo's (A MUST-HAVE for pizza). We also enjoyed simply walking around Forsyth Park, a recommended Dash Tour of the Bonaventure Cemetery (AMAZING, highly recommended), and grabbing some To-go frozen adult beverages from Wet Willie's. Mike and I stayed in the Jim Williams' Room for two nights. It was very clean, well equipped, and comfortable. The deck was a wonderful place to relax and chat together while enjoying the nice southern weather. On the first day we ate breakfast and enjoyed pleasant conversation at the second seating (9:30am) with four other couples. There was orange juice, (delicious) coffee, and ice water waiting when we arrived. Shortly after sitting Leslie and Sonya began delivering food which consisted of a banana and blackberry parfait, ham (mikes favorite), eggs with cheese and mushrooms, seasoned potatoes, and some wonderful seasoned grape tomatoes as well (my favorite). There was also a little breakfast dessert which was something like a corn pudding. I wish I had taken photos and knew the proper names for some of these items I'd never had before. Anyway. it was all AMAZING. On the second day we had to leave early to catch a ferry to Cumberland Island so I had asked if it would be possible to have some fruit or something easy set out for us before we left. WELL! Leslie got up extra early and prepared a breakfast for just the two of us and I must say it was the sweetest most amazing thing and by far the most special part of our trip. The breakfast was amazing once again and I really enjoyed sitting down and chatting with just Mike and Leslie. It was very personal and I was touched that the Catherine Ward House went so far above and beyond my expectations. To prove my point... I have never written a yelp review before, but both Mike and I felt these ladies really deserved it! I hope if you are reading this that you stay here, because I know you'll love it. read more

This is only night one of our stay but my husband and I are already impressed. Leslie, one of the owners, is seriously amazing at what she does. Hospitality is definitely her strength. As soon as we arrived, she greeted us with warmness and even offered to take us on a mini-tour of some Savannah highlights which we greatly appreciated --- especially this mommy-to-be where walking is becoming harder at 7months along. I usually plan every part of our travel but I decided to just explore this city without my usual jam-packed itinerary. And I'm glad I did. Leslie offered numerous suggestions for dining, sightseeing, and tours. We are beyond grateful for Leslie taking the time to point us in the right direction. And because of her, we were able to get seats for dinner at The Olde Pink House (which is booked one month out for reservations). I'm looking forward to the rest of our time here! I can honestly say that from the moment I pressed "make reservation" my visit was in good hands. Sonja and Leslie were just an absolute delight. When I needed to change my reservation, they responded quickly and accommodated. They even offered up many wonderful recommendations for things to see around town. Our room was beautiful, the house in general was gorgeous and we greatly enjoyed drinking some coffee in the courtyard. Definitely recommend and we intend on coming back for another night the next time we're in town. I've never had better French toast in my life. This historic b&b is only a block from forsynth Park and a couple blocks from a stop for the free Dot bus. The building itself is a distinguished Victorian home complete with a porch with rocking chairs, an elegant sitting room, formal dining room where guests enjoy breakfast, and chandeliers aplenty! We stayed in the Captains Room, which is on the second floor of the main house. Even though this is a historic inn, it is complete with modern luxuries (thermostat, roomy shower, mini fridge, WiFi). I would say this is more of $$$. It was about $300 a night for me in June. You will get more space at an Airbnb, but the charm of this place gets you! read more

My temporarily-long-distance Guy and I planned a Romantic Getaway Rendezvous Weekend (RGRW) in Savannah. Because it was an RGRW, we wanted a friendly but private B and B close to the historic center of Savannah. We also wanted access to delicious food and beverages. We also wanted it to be within our slightly limited budget. Leslie and the Catherine Ward House exceeded all our expectations. You can hardly go wrong with a RGRW, but the service, hospitality, food, conversation, and wonderful accomodations took our RGRW to the next level, which we didn't even think was possible. We stayed in the Garden Room and then moved to the Sea Trade Room because there was a vacancy (and it was even more romantic, with a fireplace and a jacuzzi tub!) Both were really lovely and perfect for a couple's weekend. The Garden Room is the smallest of the rooms, but very comfortable and has direct access to the small charming courtyard in the back. The Sea Trade Room just feels decadent with its luscious curtains and votive candles and chandeliers and enormous bed. The Inn doesn't sell alcohol, but they do provide wine glasses if you bring your own, which you should. The fact that it's set apart from the main house gives it an air of privacy. It even has its own little porch. Leslie went above and beyond to ensure that our RGRW was filled with delicious food too. She made reservations for us at Local 11 10 and Leoci's, both within walking distance, and made sure we sat with her favorite waiter, who was indeed wonderful. Breakfast is provided every morning, cooked and served in the main house's dining room, which is set elegantly ever morning. Our two breakfasts there were wonderful...two kinds of fresh fruit, endless supplies of coffee, and an assortment of eggs, caramel French toast, fruit garnishes, juice... basically exactly what you want from a Southern B and B. You eat breakfast with the other guests, which makes for good conversation and a lovely way to start the morning. We so enjoyed ourselves here that we are planning a return RGRW within the month! From the moment you make a reservation, they make you feel a part of their lives. They do not care when you actually check-in, as long as they have a heads up. Sonya (sp?) and Ed were there to greet us at check-in, very inviting. Sonya showed us to our room and gave us a quick tour. Helped us settle in, park in their parking lot (no worries about finding parking down here, thank goodness). She also helped us with things to do and where to go. The best companies to do the usual things (tours, carriage, food, etc). The Catherine Room we stayed in. Absolutely beautiful. Can not even compare it to a hotel room. Such individual, unique, simplistic, classic design and charm throughout this B&B. Ed is simply wonderful. A great chef! Breakfast this morning was delightful. He (and everyone else for that matter) were completely committed to making sure our Paleo diet needs were met for food. Have no fear my Paleo/GF friends. These people are magnificent. They take interest in your life and invite you into theirs as well. Their location is right off Forsyth Park. GREAT if you want quiet. We love the quiet. We will be returning again. Catherine Ward House was everything I wanted in a B&B and then some!  I searched on Yelp for an adorable B&B for my upcoming trip to Savannah and after much research finally decided on Catherine Ward House because of their amazing reviews, beautiful pictures, and fantastic prices. They were able to accommodate our late arrival (9:30pm) and from the start the customer service was impeccable. Booking online was easy and quick. Email confirmation was very informative. The house was decorated elegantly as if you were walking into a Victorian mansion. We stayed in the Cosmopolitan Room which was very clean and spacious. The bed and pillows were comfortable - I had such a great night's sleep! The shower and bathroom were huge which is a plus in my books! The air-conditioner worked great, which was nice since we were there in the middle of summer. The ladies at breakfast had great suggestions for us on where to go and what to do near-by. They even looked up shuttles, times and prices (talk about going above and beyond!). Breakfast was fantastic both days we were there - very filling and fresh! Leslie was extremely sweet, informative, and friendly - everything I look for in a host. In the context of a "right-out-of-a-damn-movie," quiet, beautiful, and romantic (I know, I know) B&B scenario -- Catherine Ward House, or at least our room and experience, is a solid five stars. LOCATION: My girlfriend and I came out to Savannah for a weekend to explore and relax, and a B&B was in the cards. Not that we knew this ahead of time, neither of us having been to Savannah, but we lucked out location-wise. There are a few Savannah locales in which we could have found a decent B&B: River Road area, along Bull St., or up by Forsyth Park (where CWH sits). Maybe more. On a side road off the park, this place is quiet and calm, without any foot traffic, tourists, or drunk SCAD kids, but still very much within reach of the the uber-"cute" strip and Savannah's more hoppin' areas. Everything is readily accessible, but not in your face. GREAT location. ROOM: The girlfriend did the research and the room selection (the getaway was her gift to me) and she struck gold. Huge room, very nicely appointed in classy and classic fixtures and furnitures, working fireplace, enormous bed, soft pillows, and a jacuzzi (large enough for two). Now, apparently we stayed in just about the nicest room, and others (again, apparently) weren't nearly as spacious or luxurious -- but I'm reviewing what we did experience, not what we didn't. BREAKFAST: Because come on -- I food-blog, and must review the breakfast. Included, of course, which was nice, and superb. Fresh fruit, orange juice, and strong coffee constituted a solid and acceptable start. The main dish, which was definitely the centerpiece, was a praline french toast souffle-style dish, the likes of which I've had before, but never quite like this. French bread is left to soak in egg, milk, butter and spices overnight, topped with brown sugar, butter, and pecan (praline) topping, and baked -- essentially, french toast from the oven. VERY delicious, VERY sweet, even a bit too rich for me (but I blame my predilection for the savory in the morning, not the house recipe). Absolutely pregnant with a strong pecan flavor, the dish is likely to have filled my "Southern food" quota for some time. Fine sausage on the side; all around, a very pleasant, filling, and Savannah-esque brunch to begin our day. As a suggestion, if you can roll out of bed at 8:30 for the first seating of breakfast, do so -- you'll have a quieter, calmer experience. (Met some nice folks from the Northeast. ALSO: Idea for a reality TV show -- Awkward Breakfasts with Strangers! I'd watch it.) If we return to Savannah, I would strongly consider staying at the Catherine Ward House again, and only decide otherwise if we chose to try something new. For a quick weekend in a pretty little town for some quiet R&R at a B&B, this was perfect. read more

I stayed at the Catherine Ward House last year and it was awesome!! I was looking for a bed and breakfast that wasn't too homely. I didn't want to feel like I was staying at a relative's house. I also wanted to stay at a design-conscious place (not a chintz covered place). The Catherine Ward House was perfect in these respects, and more. The owner/operator doesn't live on the premises (or at least she didn't when I stayed there) so it doesn't feel at all like you are staying in someone's personal home. She does have a site manager who stays overnight should issues arise in the evenings. The home is -very- tastefully decorated yet comfortable. I liked that the website has photos of all the rooms, and you can choose a specific room if you like. I stayed in the Garden Room which was lovely. It is a little small for two guests, but perfect for one. The room is on the garden level facing the rear-courtyard so it is quiet and perfect for sleeping in. I did get to peak into the two other garden rooms and they looked nice as well. There is no building adjacent to CWH so these rooms get wonderful sunlight. Yelpers can look for themselves but prices for the rooms are very reasonable for Savannah. Breakfast is plentiful and -delicious- (and included in the room price). I enjoyed lingering for coffee before setting out for my day. The owner is a wonderful lady, friendly and spunky. She'll help you make any arrangements you wish: tours, dinner reservations, whatever. I enjoyed many conversations with her. She has provided each guest room with a historic guide to the city (for use only during your stay, not for keeps!!!!) and a copy of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil to watch in the evenings if you wish. The house is located on the edge of the historic district but still not a hard distance from the main sights (I arrived in Savannah without a car, so all of my sightseeing was done on foot, and it wasn't a problem to walk every day). There is plentiful parking for those with a car. I would love to stay at CWH again. I don't know what occasion will take me back to Savannah but I hope to have the chance, just to stay at the Catherine Ward House. I highly recommend this place! read more

This BnB is by far the most relaxing and beautiful I've ever visited. Leslie is fantastic, she gives great recommendations, tells funny stories, and keeps the house in astoundingly perfect condition. The breakfasts are delicious (how they cook such great meals in such a tiny kitchen, I'll never know), and the girls who work alongside Leslie are ever so sweet. The house is in the Victorian District, right alongside Forsyth park. Easy walk to the Mercer-Williams house too! I can't wait to go back, and I highly recommend a stay here! read more

My fiancé and I had a wonderful holiday weekend at the Catherine Ward House Inn. This really is a charming Victorian-style B&B with historic character mixed expertly with modern conveniences. Leslie, Sonya, and staff were extremely friendly, warm, and inviting! The only reason I couldn't give a full 5 star rating was because I felt like there should have been a cocktail hour (or something) where all the guests could mingle. Because I didn't see the guests often, breakfast was awkward - forced conversation, awkward exchange of pleasantries, etc. I am also a first timer with a bed and breakfast, so I can't be considered an expert here. I just know - for the price - I wanted a bit more of an "experience" unlike any other. We stayed here this past weekend and I can happily give this place 5 stars. A true way to test customer service is when something goes awry and how the place fixes it. The first night we stayed in nells room which was lovely. One of the innkeepers casually mentioned that we share a theromstat to share with the room next door. We didn't think anything of it and enjoyed our day in Savannah thanks to the wonderful location of the inn. We spent the whole day walking around but when we came home our room was a sauna. My husband and i opened the doors and turned the thermostat down to a reasonable temperature and when it cooled down we were finally able to sleep in the comfy bed. However 5am we awoke covered in sweat and sure enough the heat was cranked. Not to mention our fellow innmates were very noisy at 5am! Well after a sleepless night i approached the owner and explained the situation. I mean we came for rest and relaxation. She was like a magic room fairy and our stuff was moved to the cosmopolitan room. Which by the way is one of the most beautiful rooms i have ever stayed in. The decor location and everything was amazing!!! The staff and service is top notch and most importantly the owner made our stay amazing after and unlucky first night stay due to bad innmates. I highly recommend both rooms but the cosmopolitan room is simply breathtaking. Nowadays good customer service is hard to find so run and book a room here! read more

Only spent one night here at the beginning of July, but it was a GREAT experience. Everyone who worked at the inn was very nice, hospitable, helpful, and welcoming. We stayed in the Hibernian Room, which was pet-friendly. There were some pretty intense cleaning fluid smells when we first arrived, but apparently the guests in the room before us had checked out a bit late so they had just finished cleaning. There is refrigerator in the room with free waters and sodas and room to store your own things as well. The bathroom is very small, but clean and completely fine for us. The entire inn was very clean, unique, peaceful, and in a perfect location. It was an easy walk, pedi-cab, or trolley ride from downtown, but still nice and quiet. Breakfast in the morning is served at 2 separate times so that you can sleep in and still eat if you want. The food was so delicious and the other guests were incredibly friendly. This was our first trip to Savannah and our first stay in a B&B. Please let me say that the ladies at the Catherine Ward House Inn were phenomenal and made our stay perfect. The breakfast was not only delicious everyday, but incredibly filling. They make you feel like you are part of their family. We stayed in Jesaica's room which is downstairs from the main floor. This room had a private entrance and covered patio which we enjoyed as we spent down time reading and enjoying the weather. They made such an impression that we will always stay here when we come to Savannah! Not only was our B&B perfect but it is walkable to any location in downtown. Across from Forsyth Park it is roughly a 5-10 minute drive or a 20-30 min walk to River Walk (depending on traffic and lights) (not sure exact time we were distracted by the sights). Fantastic B and B! The home is beautiful and the staff is superb. We stayed for a long weekend for the savannah 1/2 marathon and they were very accommodating to our schedule and our aches and pains. It truly is a home away from home without any of the work. The breakfast is outstanding and elegant, the service wonderful. The staff helped us with other plans and arranged for the haunted tour to pick us up at the front door. Southern hospitality at it's best. read more

Words can hardly describe how much I enjoyed this amazing place. I've been to several domestic and international bed & breakfasts over the years, but this one obliterates them all. I overwhelmingly agree with all the raving reviews written prior to mine, so I won't pile-on with redundancies. We had originally booked their smallest room but were pleasantly surprised when they upgraded us to their largest room! It was very comfortable. Breakfast was delicious and filling. Within walking distance of all of the squares and Forsyth Park. On-street parking wasn't a problem (on a Thursday night), though there's a parking lot across the street where we could have parked (for free), as well. Lovely time! And Sandra (sp?) was very helpful with general tips and dining advice. read more

Had the best experience staying at the Catherine Ward House. I've never stayed in a B&B before, and doubt I will start at a chain hotel moving forward. Leslie and Sonya were great hosts and made us feel at home. They cooked a wonderful breakfast each morning and tended to dietary preferences. They gave us a tour of the building, room, and had chocolate covered strawberries for us when we arrived on Valentine's Day. They had even made a dinner reservation in advance for a guest at Ruth's Chris which we gladly accepted. A clean room every day and helpful suggestions for activities were always given. Location was great - half a block to Forsythe park and 1 mile from everything else. Being comfortable walking shoes. When I return to Savannah I will stay with them. read more
