I had to stop for a while, because of knee problems, and then was just taking the Zumba classes at the YMCA in Encinitas, because they come with my membership. I decided it's time to "get serious" for 2019, and lose some weight and get in better shape, so I decided I'd go back to Marcela for her Zumba. No one else has quite the happy and peppy attitude she has! She has a genuine smile on her face all the time, and makes her classes extra fun! It's worth the extra money I put out now, because I have more fun and work harder. Please don't get me wrong, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the Y! I love it there and love the people. It's just that Marcela has something that is a true "cut above" with her Zumba! Also, the classes I take with her are MUCH smaller, making it more intimate. It doesn't hurt that after being away from her classes for about 3 years, I walked in, and she called me by name! Who does THAT? If you want a GREAT workout, check out her classes. I have spoken personally on the phone and via email to the owner that I wish to cancelled to my surprise, I am charged for the monthly fee on my credit card! If I did not check my charges, this would have been monthly ongoing basis. I have called my credit card company to block this merchant and dispute this charge; as the studio does NOT reply back to their emails unless you are a new student or enrolling. Not a happy camper!

They are able to teach the many kids they deal with every day with humor and respect and enable their talent to blossom. Yes, my kids take classes here, and have for years, but it really is a great place. Couldn't believe it wasn't on here yet. NCDA also piloted a program where the families of the studio adopted families from nearby Camp Pendleton for Christmas (Bells of Freedom) several years ago. Last year, two huge UPS trucks and the guys in brown alongside a caravan of families made many underserved servicemen's families holiday a lovely surprise. What NCDA started benefits not only the military families but also the kids from the studio who do all the prep work and hopefully, learn a little about giving back to others. As a note, the studio also offers adult classes, both during the weekday and on evenings, for beginners and beyond. There are families that have both moms and kid(s) dancing at the yearly recital. In such short amount of time (4 lessons), Dan was able to help us be comfortable with each other, learn our body movement, and choreograph our first dance. I was concerned about the hype and commercialism. Turns out that my concerns were valid. My advice...read the reviews before you go. My husband was interested so we bought the combined experience. The ticket price is ridiculous for essentially a one hour light show. The staff is friendly and provide instructions upon arrival. We arrived early and used the time to visit the gift shop. There were some good items, but they were mostly focused on Van Gogh. I was disappointed there was not more Monet merchandise. There is an "education area" before you go into the experience. Aside from reading the walls, there isn't much in the way of education. I thought the display was creative with the use of color and light and large sheer banners hanging from the ceiling. A few minutes before the show starts, you line up with a lot of other people. They tell you to walk around for the best experience. Unfortunately, the space is too small with people packed in so there is no way to walk around. Basically you are stuck in one place the entire time unless you want to push your way to a different spot. Floors are concrete, so standing for a while is uncomfortable. There were no seats other than a few benches scattered around. They should have been reserved as handicap. The Van Gogh experience is first and very slow to get started. There is no narration. Occasionally quotes appear in both French and English. Depending on the way you are facing, you may not see one or the other. There were some parts I really enjoyed, the flowers and starry night parts in particular. The Van Gogh part is about 30 minutes. We bought the combined tickets so we thought the Monet part would start immediately after. We were wrong! They replay the Van Gogh part and start Monet about 15 minutes in. I was extremely disappointed in the Monet experience and could have been so much better. We actually left after 10 minutes. There are so many missed opportunities for this experience. My recommendation would be to increase the size significantly so that people can walk as the show progresses. Being confined to a small space with a bunch of strangers is not fun. I think this experience would be okay for younger people or others who are not art enthusiasts. If you are really curious, go see the Van Gogh part. That's more than enough.
